I want to go back to the 80s and 90s where there was a more variety of settings cause the economy was better so even niche stuff sold well enough to make instead of the endless teen/kid slop we get now. Granted kid/teen slop can still be fun to watch but variety is king and because the global economy is shit everywhere we just get slop instead

I picked a random year from the 80s-90s, and it was 1989. There were

>6 Space SF
>9 Modern SF
>5 Thriller
>1 absurd music video anime
>2 sports anime
>2 horror
>3 Comedy
And then I gave up because most of the rest was spinoffs of what I mentioned or kodomoshit. Almost everything that wasn't space SF or fantasy was also set in Japan (and even a few fantasy were set in Japan, like Ranma). Generally a lot of the anime shared very similar settings and themes.
