They're friends and coworkers, very unfamiliar with selfishness and desiring something (and someone) for themselves. Normally selfish desire is villain shit. They've gotta get used to it themselves.

They're usually written by women, but then you're introduced into a whole different set of shit writing decisions. Look at stuff like Bokuyaba, that still adheres to Japanese relationship norms, but it's also not afraid to show honest affection.
