ova for now
>>287859727Oh shit, I partially read this manga. I entirely forget which chapter I stopped on but I feel I was at least more than halfway done.
>>287859819Depressing. Yet also, venereal diseases are scary stuff.
Is this the one that has penicilin as one of its story? I think I saw the drama version before.
>>287861432yep
ovaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
>>287861306We're finally home
>>287861569At this point I'm convinced Jin has the power to make people sick so he show off his medical skills. I know it's 1863, but still.
>>287860208what a BAMF
>>287862445is the same logic as detective conan, every place conan goes someone dies
>>287861647This manga is like high end gourmet food.
>>287861510HAKKEYOI!
>>287861647thanks. Hooked up on this.
>>287860658I like that she still wears her comb
>>287861306I missed the Oooooku so much bros...
>>287861363>Iemochi >him ???
>>287861610What is it with samurai and hookers
>>287861621Emergency surgeries sure happen a lot around Jin Kind of like detectives and murders
>>287861647Thanks thou saucy fellow
Think this is where I got to in the manga almost a decade ago. I remember reading the penicillin chapters and the cholera guy basically taking charge of production.
I watched the live action of this like 5 years ago, it was pretty decent
>>287859819Can't wait to drink that water later.
>>287860008>>287860160>>287860178This sounds like it might make enough to treat one person, not a city. In our world Penicillin only got off the ground because the US Army gave the project infinite money.
>>287860732This basically means changing your career from surgeon to chemist.
>>287863677Not a problem for this era's pre-eminent chemist and his lovely assistant
>>287861420He's wearing the wrong footwear. The guy was known to wear western boots under his samurai robes as a statement about practicality and modernization.
>>287864004he might do that later, he only recently got convinced of the western ways
>>287862445He's literally from around 150 years in the future. All the bacteria and viruses clinging to his body would spread novel disease strains to everyone around him, and vice-versa.
>>287862925If you weren't rich enough to be arranged to marry some other noble girl, your actual access to women would be pretty limited back then, for a lower prestige samurai. You can't marry that far downwards, and no one above wants you. So whores are really your main avenue to women.
>>287861439Great, I never read the manga before, I'll read the archive first.
>>287860221I never noticed the mother has black teeth until now
>>287863677back in the days they were just called physicians

>>287861610>B-but muh boner
>>287861610>>but what about our plan to get some pussy?!Caught me off guard and I kek'd
>>287861636>>unpaid Wait, what the fuck? That's gotta be a mistranslation
>>287865068Why would medical interns be any different from normal interns? You have to do a certain number of usually unpaid intern hours before you can get licensed to work as a doctor.
>>287864604
>>287860328The TL should really be calling it rapeseed oil, no? Canola is a more modern cultivar.
>>287859806Majestic.
>>287860339>>287860362This is a pretty crazy amount of work just to produce enough medicine for one person. I do appreciate how this and the cholera arc make it pretty clear that even with the knowledge, society still won't have the production capacity to make a large impact.
>>287864501huh me neither
>>287861647Thank you for posting.
>>287868226I bet some historical fiction sperg has determined a better base organism for growing antibacterial drugs in a less-industrialized setting than penicillin by now.
>>287870800*apparently the current time-traveller special in fiction set in the 19th century would be to make sulfa drugs from the coal and dye industry, which require a much lower overall industrial base (like no refrigeration needed). But it doesn't cure syphilis.
>>287862445I still can't believe the bullshit circumstances that lead to Tae-san's murder. It was honestly the most random event in the manga so far and I do not know the point of the author introducing a serial killer samurai, who anticlimatically gets captured and executed in a different town, without ever confronting Jin or Tae-san's son one last time.
>>287861326>there is a man saying we can fight pandemics with face masks and quarantines, he must be discredited at all costsThis manga really is quite realistic.
>>287872372It's wild how some surgeries are essentially jerry-rigging organs together like this
>>287872314This is the true appearance of the Japanese male. A higanbana in bloom
>>287872395>wear a mask constantly to keep your breathing out of the room >turn it aside and breathe directly into the patient I suppose she isn't exhaling into the open stomach, but still a little funny
vol.3 endddddd
>>287872474Man the art in this is really (and I don't say this light) top-tier
>>287864048That's a good point, modern influenza alone would be devastating to an unexposed society.
>>287872560Seems like having a brothel on your side can be a useful thing

>>287872520Saki better pin Jin down soon before some courtesan sweeps him off his feet
>>287873496I was expecting this sort of intrigue. I'm very curious in how the time travel will be explained, Jin has changed way too many things for this to be a closed loop.
>>287861530STEPPIN
>>287873066this is apparently still the surgery you'd get for a perforated stomach in 2026, although now they'd do it laparoscopically (still just plugging the hole with omentum though).
Does anyone feel Jin does things in a half assed way? For example, he wants to save everyone with his modern knowledge of medicine yet instead of simply running a local health clinic, wouldn't quickly being promoted to being the Emperor or Shogun's doctor make it easier for him to influence Edo Japan's health policy at a national level?
>>287875185He's basically a local clinic dude and part-time lecturer right now and he already has assassins after him. Edo is a brutal place
>>287875185He's doing the best he canNot like you can just walk up to the shogunate
>>287875185his thinking is very modern in that regard, but also its just not the kind of story its trying to tell
>>287875185I agree with >>287875295 that being too ambitious with raising his political influence carries a lot of risks. But it does seem to me that working to develop vaccines would be a better use of effort than penicillin.
>>287875185hes taken a small step towards this and people are immediately trying to kill him.
>>287875185he's a fellow republican who won't bow down to the undemocratic shogunate or imperial governments.

>>287872409MOGGEDSeriously though, that's a nice moment.
>>287872597There it is. My traditional Edo jealousy!
I most humbly beg forgiveness for being late to the thread, and even missing our return to the inner chambers last chapter.>>287861604>Lets suspicious guy from rival faction perform surgery on one of THEIR guys in THEIR house instead of just telling the dude to drink some mercury and die to save face. I can suspend my disbelief about all these medical coincidences and all the custom made equipment, but this lack of stubbornness and push-back seems to be the least realistic part of the manga.>>287872560That is more like it.

I will say it, because no one here is brave and noble enough to say it. I love hookers.
>>287872314It kind of looks like a vagina.
>>287859727Bump

>>287875185Anon, it's only 3 volumes so far, but it's obvious now that Jin is someone who can't peel himself from front line medicine, isn't it?
>>287873451I'm reminded of the film The Band Plays On>>It's you against the French? I thought it's us against the disease!
>>287879992maybe by the end of edo period when rules and etiquette were solidified. historically, the naginata became popular among the samurai in the late medieval period, as they gradually dropped mounted archery.
>>287875185He's not omnipotent and probably just doesn't know stuff like cholera vaccines. And on top of that they wouldn't actually work well enough to be evidence that he should be sponsored by powerful people, e.g. if he manufactured 10K doses of the kind of cholera vaccine you could make in 1860 it would probably prevent like a thousand deaths, but tons of people that had the vaccine would still die.
