Let's be honest, all fiction writers, no matter the genre, be it fantasy, real life or scifi, prefer to write about autocrats, because it's easier to write about a small group of relevant decision-makers who influence the story, or serve as antagonists whose demise will then improve the situation. A democracy with checks and balances where the citizens vote about the proposals of their elected legislators is too dull and faceless for authors.
