The reason Ruka's being killed off is because the true catharsis is gonna be Mami revealing her feelings, it will be the moment where Kazuya finally discovers the true nature of women. So the role of the main rival heroine will be taken back by Kazuya's ex. With her death, Ruka will sow in Kazuya the seed of the doubt in women's actions after he finds out the reason why she desperately clang onto him. Mami being pissed at his denseness and delusions, only to reveal her true feelings in that same rage fit is what will confirm said doubts. It will be the moment where Kazuya will finally wake up and realize he.never stopped being a bratty child who only wanted to force a lie, butnever dared the face the truth behind that lie, he never wanted Chixuru, in fact, he never had tried to ever know her... he only saw Mizuhara, all this time, he was a selfish kid who wanted to escape from the consequences. And with the latest events, he ends having a breakdown because his own actions and selfishness killed Ruka and realizes Mami actually held feelings for him. His beliefs get shattered, his closemindness critically hit. It's the moment where Kazuya finally has to stop being a child.
