>>287930789I, too, was intimidated by it for the longest time, specially when there's a full chapter at the beginning of the game which is nothing but mahjong rules that for all I know could've been left in japanese since I understood nothing anyways, but it was surprisingly easy to follow once they start with it.They actually play a very simplified form of mahjong in which they need to form a hand and complete it with a tile discarded by the opponent, taking turns discarding the tiles they haven't used for their hand, while trying to guess which hand the opponent has based on what tiles they got and which ones the opponent is discarding so as to not discard the opponent's winning one.They will constantly say which tiles they need in their inner monologue as well as what they think the opponent has/needs so you don't even need to know mahjong hands, and the most important parts of the game are related to things outside of the game itself, you won't regret giving it another try, anon.
