I periodically browse the archives for threads related to series I like for OC/maymays, and general amusement at plot speculation at the time. Some anons have ideas for the series that are more interesting than what actually happens. Some series are old enough to have had threads with oldfags (actual oldfags) discussing it. It's interesting to read through the threads with knowledge of how the series progresses and ultimately ends. It's like in that one Ray Bradbury short story about time travel. If I could actually interact with the threads (ghost poasting aside), it'd probably be best just to lurk; I'd probably just end up pissing people off (and prompt a visit from a group of rounders). For a select few series, the beginning is the high point; the authors often fumble the ending, leaving the fan base devastated and angry (reasonably so) after having spent so many years invested in the story. If they knew the entirety of the plot from the get-go, they'd probably lose interest in it, even if it's only perceived as speculation, thus dissolving the fan base and any OC it would have produced.
