Is it true that series peaked with 5Ds?
>>
>>287943171
No, it peaked with Duel Monsters.
>>
>>287943343
Nah, 5Ds actually sticked with the real rules of the game
>>

ESL, or just a victim of the 'Murikan education system?

I stopped watching after the Egyptian God episodes. That’s when it peaked.

A lot of dimwits jerk off to 5D's because it's supposedly more "mature" but it just boils down to Yusei having personality of a plank and barely any character arc. On top of that 5D's was plagued with production issues and multiple plot lines were left unresolved or quickly remade into something completely different.
As much as people like to shit on ZeXal, it genuinely felt like the second most solid Yu-gi-oh! anime after OG.
>>
>>287943171
Every series after the original had one or more stretches of 30+ episodes straight where they became absolute shite.
Zexal and GX had some shockingly high highs but both spent 50% of their runtime being complete ass.
5Ds wins the successor bowl by default, since only like 25% of it was dogwater.

>>287943171
it peaked with the original manga

Gotta second this, ZeXal never goes off the rails like the other series after DM do. It feels like they had a vision and stuck to it until the end and I really appreciated that feeling of consistency and steady forward momentum. Its the only ygo anime that feels as solid as the manga, even the DM anime spins its wheels with the filler arcs and bogs down the better parts from the original manga.
Except Kaito, fuck that guy and im glad he got shafted for the finale to make space for Shark

As a whole series? Yeah, maybe. As a peak in general? Nah, it peaked in season 3 of GX.

What pisses me off about 5D's is that the backstory of Yusei and team Satisfaction sounds so fucking cool and would make for actually interesting setting but we got to see everyone after it all happened and they all already were mature, experienced and basically on the top.

I'd actually kill for a prequel of 5D's showing us how Yusei and co. were living on basically a massive scrapyard, their first meeting and bonding over children card gaem and their rivarly with other gangs in Satellite.
Show us how Yusei became the giga chad Jesus of children card games on motorcycles instead of just telling us about it. I want to see what deck Crow played before his big bro mentor father figure got slaughtered.
>>
>>287943171
yeah but ARC-V the best consistency for 100 episodes (because the 3rd season of 5ds is a mix bag) and Vrains has the best ending.
i havent watched GX tho, i paused after the first season, not really good but i have heard the third season it's crazy good.

5Ds has really good story and characters and its fairly deep in themes, but it's a story you could tell in less than 130 episodes.
That being said 5Ds peaked at duel choreography, even here are made up shit it always stays at a fundamental level on the card game (it's really weird to see "defend the castle" duels here), really cool to the beginners but more so the ones already familiar with the game.
Also the first 100 episodes of Arc-v also had really good choreography (same director after all, the Symphogear guy)

>all already were mature, experienced and basically on the top.
I got what you mean but i wouldnt describe most of them as mature and "on top"
Yeah Yusei is mature but a little naive even on season 2.
But Jack stars as a Jerk who sacrificed his best friends for glory and Kalin died in prision and then he wanted to kill him self.
and crow is crow.

>unlike Zexal
Yeah, because they always planned for the irredeemably evil bully from the first episode to be the alien emperor of hell who came from a sacred and prestigious European clan.
They also always planned for his sister to be killed by one of the Barian, not by the character you’ve been antagonizing all season.
They also planned for the irredeemably evil father to never confide in his son about his problems, for no particular reason, and to actually be a healthy, sane person (who still killed two of his own friends).
They also planned for their son’s unspecified illness to be cured for some reason not shown on screen that was causally related to the barian.
There is also Bronk or Tetsuo. He literally does not do shit after the second half, even after proving he is a much better duelist than the protagonist. Then you have the romance with Yuma's sister. Or Tron turning good just because Yuma repeated the exact same words his kids told him episodes ago. Tron just shows up out of nowhere at the end of season two. They also made a whole arc about Astral dying, only to bring him back in less than ten episodes. And he literally only died because Yuma is too fucking dumb, he completely failed to talk to the friend he always talks to about some incredibly dubious shit coming from a character who had just shown up. Especially when it was something directly relevant to Astral himself.
And they completely threw the entire premise of collecting the Numbers to the trash, because they do not even bother to show all of them in the series.
>>
>>287951508
also the concept of "numbers" was retconned 4 times

Was she the last mature and sexy female main character in a Yu-Gi-Oh series?
I haven't watched any ygo series after 5ds but I think every main girl after her has been some flat loli.

Yeah, the correct answer is always Zexal. People may not like to admit it because Zexal has a weakass beginning, but the second half of Zexal is the strongest in the whole franchise. Unlike 5ds which starts out good but then everyone but Yusei, Jack and Crow stop mattering.

Yes, so much so that 2 entries after it tried having retarded protags, because they knew a cool cast would only be second to the Signers. It is flawed, but even crash town is better than Barian faggotry or "Lancers" being discount Signers.
>>287951508
You're talking to kattobingu ears, they can't understand.
>>
>>287956932
>Unlike 5ds which starts out good but then everyone but Yusei, Jack and Crow stop mattering
yeah because Bruno, Leo / Lua, Sherry and all the cast of antagonist dont exist
also Zexal 2 it's just the Yuma and Shark show lmao. Not even the Tron Family or Kaito did more than Akiza on 5ds S3-4-5
>>
>>287951508
>>287956932
I mean...
ZeXal pretty much retraces every major arc and story beat from DM manga. So yeah, all these things were kinda preplanned.
It's also why it has the most solid writing. The concept of rewriting DM with new skin was just that good.

It's hard to make a "Joey/Jounouchi Archetype" because his entire gimmick is that he's a poorfag running a complete mishmash of random goober cards with no synergy or overarching play style. Like you can see they're trying to make some kind of unifying Time Wizard mechanic here, but retrain can only do so much when even the basic idea of the cards is their complete randomness.
>>
>>287962406
>It's hard to make a "Joey/Jounouchi Archetype"
yep the anime never made a character that could follow up on his.
