Is Psycho Pass a modern classic?
>modernAnything over 10 years old is retro.
>>287946513Psycho Pass is older than most anons, I don't think it qualifies as modern
>>287946513First season is good. After that it feels like a new writer took over and actually presents a totalitarian surveillance state run by sociopaths as a better-of-two-evils thing (especially the movie)
>>287946513Nah, it's watered down gits with shoujo flavor
>>287947016>After that it feels like a new writer took overA new writer did take over after S1.
>>287946513I watched the first season last week 'cuz nostalgia and boredom and holy shit this show is garbage, I used to think it was good...Plot doesn't make sense, antagonists are dogshit, cast is just edgy faggots doing gore because reasons.
>>287947016You guys threat s1 as something profound, not like a surface level ripoff a few hollywood movies
>>287947206It does a good job pretending, if you watch it without paying attention you end believing is good.
>>287947206is sac for normalfags
Just got done rewatching the first season last week. Went out and found a SP101 at my lgs and bought it right there.I watched the movie like once a long time ago and remembered liking it. HAs anyone ever tried watching the Engrish Eradiation edition? How does it compare?
Spooky Boogie???
>>287947016The show went through several writers. Urobutchi did S1, which is why it has his textbook armchair fascination with agriculture and is full of quotes from 101-level humanities readings. I'd charactertize the first season as wonderful schlock. It's competent enough to be watchable but basically exists in a space of being utterly ridiculous and flat out stupid in pretty much equal measure and that incidentally makes it very entertaining. I'm not sure if it was made to be cheesy and camp on purpose or if that was an unintended side effect of chasing the GitS vibes too hard.Season 2 was written by the Mardock Scramble guy whose obsessed with dimestore body horror and beats his wife. It's honestly just unwatchably bad.3rd season got some guy who worked on GitS: Arise and it shows. It's basically political diatribe about immigration destroying Japan, complete with a cult of white offbrand catholics in Tokyo running an underground crime ring. It peaks when a brainstorming session amongst the cast abruptly derails into a CGI presentation on how the 2008 Subprime Mortgage Crisis happened. Weirdly, I think this season is the overall most competent of the 3 and probably the closest to a show you could watch for the crime intrigue and drama and not just for the unintentional humour. It's also the only season that comes up with a sensible and interesting way that Sibyl's surveillance is subverted. But it's far from faultless and the writer's frequent detours into specious surface-level takes of real world politics give the impression of the kind of person who literally has no personality beyond what they saw on the news last night.Overall it baffles me that such a mediocre franchise keeps getting such fucking fantastic OP/EDs.
>>287946513Season 1 is great, Movie 1 is good, Season 2 is unnecessary and almost feels token, Season 3 is okay.
>>287947718HYPER OATS
>>287947016Nothing ever treats the dystopia of Sibyl as a lesser evil. Sibyl is even responsible for some foreign nations being hellholes, namely that it wants to conquer them and enslave the population.
S1 is great.
>>287947016The first season is already like that, with the scan-blocking helmet distribution storyline being the typical authoritarian fantasy that without strong law enforcement everyone will kill, rape and pillage if they think they can get away with it. Sybil laughing at Akane when she says one day people won't need Sybil is framing her as a hopeless optimistic. It's still enjoyable, though.
>>287946513season 1 is kino
>>287948820She's cute
>>287948667Buried under S1s clumsy writing is the idea that Sibyl exists because its society allows it to exist. The commentary isn't "AUTHORITARIANISM BAD"The fact that the perfectly impartial and objective computer program is actually just a bunch of criminals running parliament in the basement of the techno-diet building should have tipped you off that the social critique here was about japanese culture. Sibyl isn't good, but it's allowed to exist, given power, given authority and given necessity by the failings of their society, which it then just goes on to exacerbate in a feedback loop. The meek indifference and slavish cult of authority is what enables Sibyl to work despite its brittle regime and terminally understaffed enforcement and the consequences of the incumbent behavioural sink as people abdicated their lives to a faceless kuuki yomi network is what creates the a posteriori necessity for the brutal police state, which the passive followers of the system see as evidence that they were right to abandon themselves to the machine and work until they slowly rot into catatonic vegetables in a retirement home.Like shit this isn't subtle.
I don't get the hate for S2, if anything I was pleasantly surprised and horrified than the first season. The movies were also pretty good, at least the ones with Kogami. S3 was unwatchable with all the new faggot looking characters who I couldn't give a single fuck about.
>>287949436risa deserved better
>>287946671Yeah? Psycho Pass just came out a few years ago, so it's still modern.
>>287949436>S3 was unwatchable with all the new faggot looking characters who I couldn't give a single fuck about.don't forget the MC having superpowers for some reason???
>>287947206>You guys threat s1 as something profoundBrother, all he said is "it was good".
>>287947016>a totalitarian surveillance state run by sociopathsFunny thing is, we're currently living in one and once digital-ID and CBDC are fully implemented it'll be game over.
PP1, yeskogami vs makishima is just a classic combo for detective stuff
If the dust has settled, shouldn't we do some cleaning?
>>287946513>female with bowl cutDisgusting
>>287950193I like how Kogami didn't mess around afterward and killed him the first chance he got.
