So...wtf went wrong with DBS anyways?
You'd think that after such a long hiatus it'd in Toei's best interest to deliver something that at least looks visually pleasing lol.

It was made.

But is also gave us Jiren, and Jirenfag by extension.

DBS didn't invent Latin America, it just made you aware of them.

Why? DBfags would eat up any shit

Around this time Dressrosa was a slideshow as well. People were thinking Toei was going bankrupt. Kind of funny how Precure had consistently superior animation to OP and DBS.

Toei was fumbling real hard in the 2010s. One Piece becoming (even more) unwatchable during Dressrosa, Toriko nuked into oblivion, and then DBS. It took until Kimetsu no Yaiba beat them out of the water that at least One Piece used more budget even if it's just ADHD nonsense.

nobody wanted these things

Also World Trigger Season 1. Toei hasn't gotten a new Shonen to adapt ever since.

Dragon Ball Super was greenlit in April 2015 when Resurrection "F" was doing great in theaters. Toei wanted to capitalize on the hype and decided Dragon Ball needed a new TV series, and so Super was given a timeslot. In July 2015. It pushed out Digimon Adventure tri. from its intended slot, which instead got moved to a series of 6 theatrical releases despite clearly being of TV production value, and it really shows because you can split the "movies" into episodes.

Pre-production for a TV anime takes well over a year. Episodes usually begin production 8 months ahead of when they air, with multiple episodes being worked on at the same time based on priority (ie. scheduled airdate). Dragon Ball Super had 2.5 months to begin a series. The reveal didn't even have a finalized logo. Tadayoshi Yamamuro's character designs from the movies were reused for Super instead of there being updated ones. Super's entire life was absolute hell for the people working on it, with long days, no weekends, and no holidays. It went through FIVE series directors over its 131 episodes, because they kept quitting due to the insane demands. Most times a series director will be involved for over 100 episodes. It wasn't even a matter of budget allocation, it was being told to produce 22 minutes of content every week with a few weeks notice. A lot of the people working on Super are talented people known for their work in other anime, even the guy who directed the episode in the OP image is the guy who animated Luffy punching the Celestial Dragon.
