If you want to watch a completed show along with it to really get into the genre, some common recommended starting points are shows like the original Aikatsu (spokon + idols), PriPara (wacky comedy + idols), or Pretty Rhythm Rainbow Live (intense drama + idols). Can't go wrong with any of them!

Looking at it the opposite way, if you view AiPri through the lens of Pripara, you'd similarly conclude that AiPri poorly delivers on the themes of unity and friendship because it blatantly focuses on HimaMitsu above all else. They're just different shows with different aims and subjects.I will say though that AiPri impressed me by not flanderizing any of the S1 characters, Sakura could have easily become one note with her Mii obsession for how much the joke started to reappear but they still kept her roots as a cool character going.

It was a very small window of opportunity but they made sure to exploit it. That year 2 success bought them a lot of time to try new approaches to the show too.

>>287961442Realistically neither of them would get remade, but even then AD would be less likely both because of the rights issues and because it was less of a hit than Pripara. The best AD would get is a KinDra style film like what Hishida has suggested doing for RL. Pripara wouldn't get remade anytime soon because it's still ongoing, Idol Land's game is still alive and well plus theres the unannounced DanPri project and whatever the Idol Land leaks were. Frankly I don't want any remakes and would prefer they continue moving the series forward with new content like they're currently doing.

HimiPri's lack of appeal is probably due to the fact that it had toned down its gay elements due to broadcasting regulations, but I guess that can't be helped... although it's debatable whether it was actually restrained at all.
