This really should've been a fight we get to see.

I know we still have a couple of more chapters before THAT, but that's why I want to ask; Whats your opinion on Omega so far anons? Are you enjoying it more or less compared to Ashura?
>>
>>287976950
I like it a lot so far. It's been a much slower burn than Kengan, since IIRC we were already on the boat by this time in chapters, but I actually like Koga a lot. I've even come around to Ryuki infinitely quicker than I did Ohma. I don't mind the politics of the Kengan matches being dumb since they were already fucking stupid in Asura, but there really is no reason Hayami should still be alive after the coup.
>>
>>287975541
what was even the point of this guy

I miss Asura
>>
>>287976950
I appreciate it a lot more in retrospect (duh).

I think I'm finally beginning to understand it, though. In Asura, Ohma was a fighting god. This created an audience of people who wanted to see the protagonist be awesome from day one, and Koga isn't that. I personally really like Koga and if "we" didn't have "foresight" I would assume he eventually becomes a really strong and cool fighter. That said, there are two problems.

- I think they missed the "timing" on how weak Koga is. It's one month before the tournament (Kengan's biggest draw) and Koga is still losing to a mook that gets blown up by any random tournament fighter. Should he still be that weak? This is your manga's first tournament arc. 50 chapters of being shitty is quite a lot when it isn't being dumped 3 chapters a day. Obviously, we'll never know when the original intended payoff on his arc would be.

- The second protagonist, Ryuki, is obviously meant to be the second half of the formula; the guy who's good at fighting. But he's a bit one-dimensional and his style isn't that interesting, either. Additionally, he doesn't get as much screen time as Koga, because he isn't really actively developing.

Basically, I can see the flaws now. Some of them are self-inflicted, others are just the expectations of the audience. But yes, I'm still mad a decade later.

I feel like part of this problem was having KvP so early on, maybe if it was built up to more as something that would happen at chapter 100 or so, then Koga's growth rate would be more reasonable instead of getting subverted with the set up after chapter 50.

As a new reader who has managed to make it through the entire storytime without being spoiled, I want to take a shot at guessing what comes next. I'll mark it as a spoiler it in case some or all of it ends up being right. There's definitely going to be a really stupid plot twist based off the reactions. With the Meguro clone mentioned in >>287975534, it must be foreshadowing an Ohma clone, BUT it won't be Ryuki because that would be too obvious. Kazzy, who will see Ohma and think that he somehow survived the KAT, will be the first to encounter him and try to recruit him for the tournament. Ohma then responds by sticking out his tongue and saying that he's got it all wrong while turning him down (because this phrase seems to be the greatest Kengan trigger while the upcoming chapter seems to be the catalyst to all the horrors that await). It will actually be a second evil Ohma who will also plan on entering Purgatory against the Kengan association. He'll kill either Koga or Ryuki upon his reveal and the other will dedicate himself to avenging his friend at the tournament.

There is no other parallel in Omega. It's a moment that not only ruins Omega, but also retroactively shits on the ending of Asura and shits on one of its central themes and sources of genuine poignancy and drama. For years, people praised Asura for its adherence to a specific theme that the upcoming moment is going to completely ruin.
>>
>>287982161
Rate it on a scale of 1-10 of Azami's entrance, with Azami being 5.
>>
>>287976950
It's still fantastic, even though re-reading it now makes me far more NOOOOOTICING of all the annoying little Sandroisms (just like how I NOOOTICED these Sandroisms in Asura as well when I joined the storytime dumps for that manga).
Why is it still good despite having these annoying elements? Because of its focus on character development.
It is (or, rather, was), as I've said many times, a good sports underdog story. So no matter how many annoying mystery boxes or 5D chess worm shenanigans Sandro tried to shove in early Omega, it didn't matter, because there was still at Omega's heart the story of Koga as the underdog.

It's also shit and damaging in ways that I don't want to spoil for the people here who DO want to proceed with reading the chapter and sticking with the story.
>>287982265
>Even worse than every other cashgrab sequel that shits on the legacy of the original
I haven't read/watched/played every other cashgrab sequel that shits on the legacy of the original, and (with all due respect) nor have you or anyone else here, so performing this thought exercise of ranking the different shitters is just splitting hairs.
I'll just say that this specific moment is so bad on its own that no matter what destructive example from other franchises you compare it to, it's still absolutely awful.
If you're still curious, wait until tomorrow and I'll be providing more detailed explanations on how that moment ruins so many different things. Or someone else will probably do it. Because tomorrow is going to be spent reliving a great trauma, and as with any moments that trigger traumatic memories, it's gonna lead people to want to vent.

Pretty much all the hypothetical cope scenarios people over the years tried to think up as an alternative chapter 50 was pretty much better than what actually happened.

Foils are good. Just like how Fei could have survived to narratively serve as a foil to Ohma. Ohma could have been a Fei with one wrong turn in life. Likewise, Fei could have been an Ohma with one right turn in life.
>>287982640
Yep. They even have the exact same height, if you recall. What I was thinking was that after the events of Asura, Kiryu's mental state continued to deteriorate. His obsession with Ohma, along with this mental state, led him to undergo plastic surgery to look as identical to Ohma as possible. He also combined his insanity with his gifted talents in martial arts to basically create a combat style that resembled the Niko style. Of course, his mind was in tatters, so even though Kiryu already fought Ohma, he couldn't 100 percent re-create the Niko style with 100 percent accuracy. His brain was so fried that he made up the story of him being the heir to Gaoh Mukaku's legacy.

>Imagine throwing away what made the ending of Asura so poignant.
It's what I always try to remind retards who attempt to argue that this moment isn't the worst moment in the franchise.
See, there's a certain fight that happens way later in the manga (close to 100 chapters later) that some people say is the actual worst moment in the manga. And I'm like, no matter how bad you think the fight is, it's one very bad fight among many very bad fights.
Meanwhile, the upcoming chapter 50 moment is just so much more of a monumental fuck-up in storytelling that not only negatively affects Omega but also retroactively affects Asura in the worst way possible. Like I said to a different anon here, one of the things people could unanimously praise about Asura was that the consequences of the protagonist's recklessness on his own body resulted in his death. It wasn't like generic shonen battle manga where the MC could do something reckless to his body and suffer zero consequences. Ohma meanwhile suffered the consequences of his decisions. And Omega undid that. Nowadays, in current Omega, a character can pop a Removal or Advance with zero consequences ever being discussed. It's like going super saiyan in Draogn Ball. There's just so much more that's wrong with this moment. I just want to save my energy for tomorrow.
>>

>Hey, so I have been following the dailies and noticed that the art is degrading quite a bit quickly, checked the last chapter dump today aswell and it's even worse,
You actually think the current chapters have gotten bad in their art?
What exactly is bad about them? Like specific examples?
I can understand the latest 100+ chapters being shit since Daro admitted to basically giving up and relying on AI.
But his enthusiasm and effort was still intact in these earlier chapters.
>>
>>287984975
But there was a second Chapter 50.
>>
>>287984905
Daro peaked in late Ashura and it was downhill from there, but the exact speed varied. It's never quite that good again, but it doesn't get aggressively bad for a while, and once in a while you do get a good fight, until we go into freefall at a certain turning point(not the chapter 50 everyone is looking forward to) and you get to see shit degrade week by week in real time as more and more becomes fully AI generated.
This >>287984937 is from a couple arcs ago, where we are now it wasn't quite active spite/quiet quitting yet.

As people here have speculated, it's a mixture of Sandro having no sense of commitment, him being scatterbrained, and also being negatively affected by widespread complaints from retards bitching about the slow burn pacing and focus on characters (because they wanted another KAT, even though Sandro was going to get there anyway due to the KVP tournament at the time being one month away in universe).
But at the end of the day, as I've noted before, Sandwich makes the final call, so even if tons of retards wanted KAT 2.0, it was on him to ignore the demands if they didn't fit with his vision. If it's true that he capitulated to fans, then he's just spineless and pathetic.

Perhaps "you"'ve seen it, maybe... in a premonition.
A murky, forgotten land.
A place where expectations may mend "your" ailing mind.
"You" will lose everything...
...once branded.
The symbol of the curse.
An augur of darkness.
"Your" past. "Your" future. "Your" very timing.
None will have meaning, and "you" won't even care.
By then, "you"'ll be something other than human.
A thing that feeds on subversions.
A Hollow.
Long ago, in a walled off land, far to the east, a great fisherman wrote a "great" manga.
I believe "they" called it Omega.
Perhaps "you"'re familiar.
No, how could "you" be.
But one day, "you" will stand before its decrepit gate.
Without really knowing why...
Like a moth drawn to a flame.
"Your" wings will burn in anguish.
Time after time.
For that is "your" fate.
The fate of the cursed.

Chapter 50 IS the worst moment in the series hands down BUT Kengan could and for a little bit did recover and correct course even if there's a permanent bad taste from then on Ch 144 completely ruins things in a way that's unrecoverable, they got rid of an insanely important and entertaining character to prop up a dogshit one and all of his replacements have been severely lacking, just look at the most recent chapter and how nobody both in and out of Universe treats the new replacement seriously
>>
>>287976182
The funny thing is, if you go back in the archives, a lot of people were actually quite hype over chapter 50. Obviously, the response was mixed, but since "we" hadn't seen the "depths" to which the manga would fall, it wasn't a universally reviled moment like it is now. People still enjoyed Omega for quite some time after this chapter, even though it was becoming apparent the quality was declining.

I'm very curious to see how the new readers react--I'm going to guess it's going to be a lot worse than when the chapter first dropped, since they've been conditioned to recognize it as the moment the manga goes to shit.

>You actually think the current chapters have gotten bad in their art?
>What exactly is bad about them? Like specific examples?
not that anon but in terms of artstyle there's basically no grit to it anymore (tho to be fair asura did gradually lose more and more of it as it went on) and a lot of the impact and motion of panels feels relatively weaker compared to the average asura fight because of overuse of digital effects, rather than the linework (which i also feel it has downgraded, featuring much less line variation) standing on its own its smeared with blurs and blooms and screentones in a way that looks rather sloppy, there's also a pretty noticeable change in terms of proportions/shape language, although again it was happening towards the end of asura too, but faces are a lot more squished down and "moe" and the ugly/awkward features that would've been emphasized before like big brow lines or prominent noses are fairly downplayed, everything is much more "anime"
i dont think its awful by any means yet, but art wise it feels like the artist isnt challenging himself or fully committing to something wacky like he used to
>>
>>287985055
Not him, but I've noticed that Omega has been occasionally skipping over fights that we should have gotten to see. For example, >>287975782 would have been a good opportunity to showcase Koga's growth. A big red flag was Rihito's comeback fight, like in >>287956670 where as other anons have pointed out, that leg transition makes little sense as it passes through Rihito's arm that was locked around Mokichi's waist and grabbing onto his back. The choreography in that fight in general felt kinda off, but without the foresight of other anons zeroing in on those details, I wouldn't have thought too deeply myself on those mistakes.

>>
>>287994502
I was really rooting for EC but I knew there was no way he'd win but I had a faint hope. I expect that at least he has a good epilogue.
>>
I think the problem with CC is that the fights are so far removed from real-life martial arts that it's hard to really feel invested in them. It just feels like those stickman fight animations. The characters just beat on each other with over-the-top bullshit movements, until one of them croaks because the author said so. The final fight is way too long and boring. When every strike is just a blurry "WHACK" I can't really know what would be a knockout blow and what wouldn't.
>>
>>287994502
What's this?
>>
>>287998103
Ironically, that's one of the reasons I enjoyed it. After the different bullshido techniques in Kengan, it's been pretty refreshing to just see fights boil down to "hit the other guy until he dies". Not to say CC doesn't have some bullshido, but it's way more grounded then other series.

But yeah, the final fight could have been cut down a bit, and giving Roach any sort of durability measure would have been welcome, since he does feel like a walking sponge until he isn't. Still a great finale though.

>>287998103
keep in mind Cucaracha is 6'7 300+ lbs and Pete's even taller at 6'9 but 220~
Not only is this finals but its a borderline clash of the giants like these two that had that exact same type of match, plus the residual damage was more apparent with the broken arm/leg
>>
>>287998435
Wow never realized those two were this huge. Also Julius/Wakek was such a shit fight.
>>287998413
What's frustrating is that the strikes are just nameless blurry attacks, and all the damage doesn't prevent them from moving like they want. Getting their ribs cracked doesn't make their punches weaker, getting their legs mined with kicks doesn't slow them down, it really feels like HP bars.
>>
>>287998413
Honestly the only character from Kengan I can see beating Pete, EC, Violence and some others is Shen and it would be very hard for him.
This makes me want to make my own comic, too bad my autism would make me roll dice or find another way to solve fights so there's no "main characters" because Tenkaichi made me so mad.

I can't post the link because the name of it is a spoiler, but I found another post of reddit-omega-readers not being happy with the writing
>Not only do i one thousand percent agree but allow me to add that in the end, all of these pointless debates about the chapter is the inability for fans to simply accept that Sandwich has fucked the writing. Plain and simple, no beating around the bush. The man for whatever reason either he doesn't care, has a tight schedule, is blindsided into believing this is what fans want, I don't know the cause but the pattern has repeated too often for me to believe this is going to change any time soon.
>>
>>287996833

While most people were indeed mindlessly fellating Sandwich for bringing Ohma back (and I'm sure they regret doing so today, and were probably already regretting it by the next few chapters that signalled Koga was no longer the protagonist), there were still enough people like me who were critical of this event happening.

>>
>>287996932

>>287996944
>You don't notice on a first read but you can tell early omega had a lot of sandroism,
Not just early Omega, but also Asura too. And all of his other manga since then.
>>
>>287996751
How do you not see why this is terrible? It invalidates the ending of Asura. And one of its best themes too. You know how Ohma spent literally THE ENTIRE manga being tortured by the decision of whether or not to use the Advance to...advance....his goals at the cost of his body being ruined? That's something he wrestled with for the ENTIRE manga. A lot of the pathos in Asura with regards to Ohma was from that. Plus it was also neat to see a subversion of a trope on this matter. Finally we got a shonen protagonist with a bullshit power up that has GENUINE consequences. And this chapter ruins all of that. Not to mention it ruins all stakes. People can pretend like Hanafusa helping to fix Mokichi's broken neck is the same thing all they want, but it's not the same thing at all. One is bringing back to life a minor side character whose life or death would have had zero consequences in the story at all, while another is bringing back the main character of the previous manga whose revival has had devastating consequences for stakes and the plot.
>>
>>287997019
The problem with the "foreshadowing" is that it was a vague get-out-of-jail-free card that the author cynically abused.
Some people PRIOR to this chapter had wondered what that Hanafusa scene at the end of Asura meant.
After all, the scene was extremely vague and really could have been explained later on in the manga as being just about a lot of different things, not just Ohma's revival. The fact that it was used as the author making it seem like he had always planned it all along is bullshit.
You could say the same about any other "clue" prior to chapter 50, like Fusui being vague and reluctant about telling Kazzy where Raian is and pretending not to know.
This could have easily been also used to explain an alternate scenario where Fusui was told not to tell Kazzy that Raian was secretly monitoring him to save him in case he got attacked by Worms.

>I was still hopeful that surely Sandwich knows what he's doing.
The thing is, that moment was basically an alarm bell. What that moment basically signaled was that nothing was taboo or off limits to him as a writer. That the author would do anything to either be a crowdpleaser or to rouse his readers. It was a warning sign that everything was going to be downhill from that moment onwards.
>>
>"we" are posting between "the gaps" of "bump limit"
Unfathomable
>>
>>288003490
Yeah, I know.
There's a few things he could've done with this that end up not being disastrous (But would've probably reduced this moment to a cheap hype tool) like him being an actual clone.
But still, even if it was exactly what it was, he had built up enough good will to be allowed that much. Surely he'd realize this was a misstep and not repeat it.
Basically just copium, of course, since like I said, I saw the signs right there.

You Chapter 144 devotees are a hilarious lot.
Let's put aside how Chapter 50 already is a billion times more destructive than just an incredibly disappointing conclusion to a highly anticipated boss fight (which is what Chapter 144 was).
Even if you hypothetically were one of those people who still had hope the series would get back on track after Chapter 50, there were so many moments between Chapter 51 and Chapter 144 that were just so shit that should have killed any goodwill you had for this manga. Let's go in reverse chronological order:
. The fact that over TWO FUCKING YEARS of ridiculous hype buildup for Lolong and he got unceremoniously beaten in the most pathetic way possible.
. Related to point number one is how pathetic two years of Purgatory fighters ended up being, with only two real meaningful victories (Falcon and Liu), with the other """victories""" being technicalities (Medel) or disqualifications (Alan's ""victory"" or Naidan's ""victory"").
. The fact that another boss battle who arguably was even more important as a boss battle, namely, Fei (the hooded guy in the center of the "Evil is On the Move" final page of Asura) didn't end up being an important fight and died in the most pathetic way possible.
. Terashi being a joke fight and a character rewritten on the spot.
. Nicolas-Akoya being sacrificed at the Lolong altar.
. Alan being turned into a shock value moment.
. Everything about Yumi.
. Koga being completely sidelined as a character, something he has not recovered from to this day even with Sandro's feeble and failed attempts at making him cool.
Face it: Chapter 144 devotees are just retarded Eddiefags. They didn't care about anything else. Hell, they'd probably even make excuses for everything else before and after chapter 144 had Eddie actually won.

It's not the fault of me (or others like me) for spending years shitting on that moment.
New readers are perfectly free to have and voice whatever opinion they want about it. The ball is entirely on their court.
If they genuinely don't agree with people like me in a "wait a second, this is actually good/better than you say/not as bad as you say it is" type of a deal, then it's on them to voice their opinions (retarded as those opinions may be in my eyes).
In fact, if that moment actually is not as bad as I have said it is, then I should expect to see tons of the usual contrarianism for contrarianism's sake type of posts very eager to tell people like me how they've got it all wrong (heh). You know...the kind of retorts that are common in an anonymous Laotian basket-weaving forum like this? Especially for opposite scenarios involving beloved classics in manga/anime/games/TV/movies where there's always going to be people ready to say those classics are overrated and that I am retarded for liking those classics.

Based. Let them "arrive" at their own pace. If they enjoy it, good on them for finding a fun manga. If they "scale the wall", they'll finally understand "us".

There are no bad outcomes as long as you don't make the mistake of Kaneda and every other Kenganvenger by arbitrarily decreeing people are evil for not submitting utterly in mind and body to your faction.

Definitely one of the top 5 threads I've ever seen.

>I "arrived" late

kek. what's even left to say. There'll be some good moments here and there, the coming tournament isn't without some good fights and moments. But the ending of chp 50 are a generational series of pages that killed the series' integrity. Sandro has no self-respect as a writer, and I truly believe this is what turned Daro into a passionless fuck who feels zero shame using AI in his art: not even to fill in a complex repeating pattern in a massive background or something questionable, but in every element of modern Omega that he can get away with. That conversation won't need to be had for a while yet, enjoy

It's also just the way SandroBITCH constantly rejects any good idea that Daro has. Think of all the drafts we've seen from Daro that were outright better than whatever lazy shit Sandwich came up with. I'd be demoralized too if I worked for a retarded, pretentious boss like him.

>Watch Strickland vs Chimaev in the UFC
>First round is a strong opening for Chimaev, straight for the takedown
>Then something funny happens in the second round: He just starts stuffing every takedown and throwing regularly, and Chimaev just...doesn't reply nearly as hard, for no discernible reason
>In the third round Chimaev continues to get cucked out of takedown attempts and has to fight on his feet
>And in the fourth round he's beginning to find his pace, gives Strickland a bloody nose but only tries ONE takedown right at the end
>Notice both men are giving each other high-fives, big grins and other compliment hexes despite Chimaev trying to kick Strickland in the press buildup to the fight
>And by the fifth round, Strickland is literally just going limp and rolling out of the takedowns
>Suddenly realise what kind of fight I just watched
>A striker vs a grappler
I hate the Sandro Style.

Ah yes. The RCT. That's 25 chapters well spent. With 4 (count it: FOUR) breaks in between!
>>
>>288007026
4 breaks was insane considering one fight was just one guy slamming his face into a dudes straight punch until he finally won, one was another dude getting punched in the face until he lost, Agito raping Julius and FishFace getting low-diffed by Lolong. What were those breaks possibly for?

>What were those breaks possibly for?
It's the clear sign of someone whose heart isn't in it anymore. It's like a wagie who clocks in at 9 and immediately clocks out at 5, and is always looking at his calendar for holidays and counting how many days off he can take. Someone who actually is enthusiastic about this isn't going to try to take as many breaks as possible.

Sounds like double the amount of people in a normal /a/ thread these days.

Yep, when the chapter released there were some people actually excited I know I was one of them.
But I also remember even during the dumps/followup discussion threads some people were shitting on it. They got denounced as negative nancies, but man they were right all along.
