Timelooping is just a tool that allows Subaru infinite tries allowing the author to accelerate Subaru's "character development" through a suffering loop while exploring shock value scenarios. If the author wishes he can easily have an arc with no timeloops, because it's just a tool and a gimmick. For example, arc 5 itself has a basis of Subaru not wanting to depend on his RBD, so in order to justify it, the author has Subaru and co. consistently surviving increasingly bullshit odds through sheer plot armor. If it followed the usual formula of every other arc, Subaru and his friends would've died a million times over and the arc would be built around trial and error like other arcs, specially considering there were multiple archbishops of sin active during the arc. The rules of RBD in itself are arbitrary for the sake of this usage, in one arc the "checkpoint" maybe be inconvenient and confusing leading to Subaru having 1 trillion deaths, then another it's convenient.If RBD was removed, Re:Zero loses a core part of its identity, but can still exist as a good story. This is the complete opposite of SG. If you remove timelooping and timetravel in SG it's literally completely killing the premise and the entire thing needs to be rewritten from scratch.
