Chihaya, Taichi, and the rest of the their year at Misuzawa have graduated, it is a new year and new Karuta club, featuring Sumire as the new captain of the club. I will be dumping the bonus chapter at the end of the main manga, and then get into the sequel proper. There is only one volume translated, but I believe 6 are out total. There are two main characters in the sequel.Bumps (or preferably commentary) would be appreciated. No pass, so this'll take a while.
I'm doing this in part because I've been on a Chihayafuru kick recently, and partly because it'd be nice to have a dump thread when new chapters of the sequel are out, but it's barely been posted about on this board.

Last page of this bonus chapter. I remember being very impressed with this when it came out, despite the fact I'm sure many were hoping for a Chihaya/Taichi followup chapter. But this fit really well and showed the future of Karuta beyond just Chihaya's purview. Even if there hadn't been a sequel series, I think it would've been a fitting end. But there's more to come still.

Besides, his bet with Sudo means he has to play for the rest of his life, he can still try again. It would've felt like it undermined Arata if he failed after all his dedication.

What really irritated me was that they never questioned Taichi why he left or why he did not join the club again even though they went to the same school perhaps even the same class. Also that the cougar moms couldn't kneel. Really shows how off they are from the culture portrayed in anime
End of chapter 2. I feel like there's a lot more emphasis on disruptive (family) circumstances this time around and how it effects people. It's been a while since I've read through the original, but while I think that theme was there, to an extent, the circumstances feel more staunchly against them. Like Taichi's mother wanted him to only ever take first place, and this did inform his character/actions, but his romantic interest in Chihaya seemed to be more important than that.

End of Chapter 3. Only the extras left after this. It's interesting that Yasuda's excuse was real (at least real to her). On my initial reading I was pretty sympathetic with his anger, but they managed to create a workaround, which is better than letting resentment fester. It helps that she was serious about improving.
