Is serial experiments lain actually good or is it just overrated snobcore like evangelion?
>>288031412if you didnt like eva stop watching good anime
>>288031412Evangalion was good snobcore though
>>288031438Overrated snobcore then, gotcha
snobbery and elitism are good things, there should be more of it to gatekeep retards
>>288031461evangelion is anime for children if you dont understand you are dumb
Ikoku Nikki is still unchallenged for AOTY BTW
Have you considered that you are actually retarded?
>>288031412Yes, and yes
>>288031412I've been rewatching it because I dropped it some years ago and didn't like it. Now I see how charming it is. The direction makes it cryptic even if it's honestly straightforward in its main plot, despite there being a lot of unknowns most of the time. Anyway it's still extremely misunderstood because some retards still think it's got "internet bad" as a moral
>>288031412When you see a closed door do you also make a thread on 4chan to ask people what’s behind the door
>>288031412it's okay but it would have been better if lain was naked more often and 10 years old like in the ps1 game
>>288031888Doors are faggotcore jewslop for brownoid cuckniggers that get walkmogged by Aryan windowCHADS
>>288031888I'm asking for why it's worth watching but your snobbishness has convinced me it's not
>>288031412Evangelion is pretty easy to understand and I'm not saying that to be a condescending asshole. The manga was literally published in a shonen magazine. Anyways, Lain is good and you should watch it. Texhnolyze is better though.
>>288031675at least the first few eps were good, too bad it turned into feministslop
>>288032396you think you're owning the ZOG by making useless threads to ask these inane questions instead of just googling them, but Hiroshimoot already told them everything about you a decade ago and they all had a big laugh
>>288031412All of the above. It's good overrated snobcore.
>>288031561but snobbery and elitism are retards
>>288031846Technically, it wasn't suppose to be "internet bad", but "The West is bad". The director literally thought that Westerners wouldn't understand why any of what was going on in the show was bad because he assumed we literally worship technology and have never had any sort of family/friendship values.
>>288032495wtf is that even supposed to meanback to /tv/ with you
>>288032693Pretty sure the retards are the ones who get confused watching children's cartoons.
>>288032743no I'm pretty sure it's a (you) problem
>>288032731All the major actors are Japanese and it's set in Japan. What does the west have to do with anything here?
>>288032741probably he means that it portrays men in a negative light
>>288032767It's not my problem that you're retarded, it's yours. I will laugh at you, though.
Cutting through the bullshit, Lain and Eva are both seen as "Deep and Mysterious" in Western Anime circles because they ended up being most people's introduction to anime what wasn't ONLY about the monster of the week. But both are WAY more simple than their fans try to dick ride them as being.Lain IS an interesting SciFi series about late 90s paranoia about the power of the internet. But the story itself is super simple:>Lain is a girl who was experimented on to be able to connect to the internet with her brain alone>Because of this, her online personas are off doing shit when she's a school; which causes problems>When her troll persona leaks nudes of her friend, she tries to erase people's memories of it>Her white hat hacker persona figures out this is part of a plan by the guy who experimented on her to take over the world>She erases him then erases people's memories of herself so no-one can abuse her powers>The End
>>288032876lmao were anons that offended by Asa's father was shown as an empty husk of a man since they are also indistinguishable from bots?
>>288032919Anon, the complexity is in themes, not the plot. The theme is about how 'reality' is a normative term: what is real and what isn't is defined by conventions. What the anime is asking (in a long line of inquirers) is what this means for something like the internet, which fundamentally changes the way we interact with one another, and even ourselves. How do these two 'realities' interact - are they even two? Are they even one? Can we even use the word 'reality' when each person has their own personal world which is totally barred to anyone but themselves? This was combined with the eschatological themes (very popular nowadays, lmao) about internet reality taking over reality reality. You know, the cyberpunk thing where the matrix is realler than real life, except in Lain this is perhaps argued as being a good thing.
>>288032890sure it is anon
>>288031412lain is good, evangelion is clowned on by it's own manga
>>288032846Ueda has said multiple times that the series was intended to ignite a culture war with the West by presenting a distinctly Japanese message to challenge the West's Post-War indoctrinate of Japanese culture. He was genuinely pissed off when he learned that Americans completely "got" the show's themes.
>>288031412>xcoreDumb normalfag tourist.
>>288032988The themes, while complex, break down now that we have actual terms for them. Back in 1998, all of this was genuinely mystifying and eschatological (which has been popular since the Atomic Age; we just got a lull 20+ year lull in it because the Cold War ended), but the concept of existing between two worlds, how the internet perverts social interaction, and which version of you is the REAL you is shit middle school teachers have to make part of their teaching syllabus to make it through the school year.
>>288032693dumb ESL
>>288031412Every snobcore anime is good though.
>>288032731lmao is that their excuse for showaboomers getting high on yellow magic and squandering their children's future for the sake of progress at all costs? Saikano is just so much better a story than this even if the anime is ass
>>288033036>touristtwitterfag cancer thinks he belongs here
>>288033111Themes don't become less complex just become comment on them has become more common.
>>288032919all stories are simple, what matters is the execution and Lain is good at that
>>288031412Lain invokes a similar vibe to media like Black Mirror, Twin Peaks, X-Files, Millennium and Hellraiser for me. That esoteric and paranoia feel.
