What killed these sites for me was actually the subtitles
They always default to having a 50% opacity text box and don't have drop shadows or outlines for the text itself. Many times I would go there I would have to reconfigure them manually. Eventually, I found one website that had normal good looking subs by default. Then they redesigned their site and went with the retarded shit everyone else did. At that point I was just fucking sick of it. The other straw that broke the camels back was that I was watching ergo proxy and I reached an episode early on that just didn't fucking work at all. None of the mirrors except one, and that one was in terrible quality plus constantly buffering.
Ergo proxy became the first anime I fully torrented. I finished whatever other anime I was streaming as I didn't want to download just like a few eps of a show at the end, and since then I have not touched these sites whatsoever. Torrenting takes like 15m to set up and learn. It's just as easy as streaming sites, you get higher quality anime (the bitrate is what is important, retard. Streaming 1080p doesn't mean you're watching 1080p), have a huge amount of player customization, extremely easy ways to take screenshots etc.
The one problem I run into is that nyaa doesn't work sometimes and I need to hit refresh a bunch in order to get it to load, but that might be the version of it I'm visiting idk
