Hijacking this thread: What are you fags' expectation for S2 when it comes to adapted content? they have 4 episodes worth of extra time due to only adapting volume 17. I think it's clear that volume 13 is the designated rape victim this time, but I'm hoping they at least conclude Sara's little drama. Should be easy to do without going too overboard. Another thing that I will be disappointed if they don't properly adapt is the King-tier Lightning spell. I was re-reading volume 13 and that chapter stood out to me. Despite its name, "Lightning" isn't just a regular lightning bolt. Both times that it gets used (in volume 13 by Roxy and later in volume 25), it's described as not being like any lightning the POV character had seen before and more akin to a pillar of light. This also shown through the spell casting process as described by Rudeus. Cumulonimbus already creates a lightning storm, with real, normal lightning. However, "Lightning" creates a more ferocious, uncontained cumulonimbus spell, followed by forcibly compressing the entire storm into a single small area, before dumping all of the mana compressed into a single directed attack. So in theory, it's like being hit by the entirety of the cumulonimbus spell all at once + extra. This isn't just the case with Rudy-lightning, even Roxy's was described like that. The power should be massive, as Roxy herself warns that she can only cast it once a day, despite never making such a statement in volume 1 for cumulonimbus. And she should be able to, in theory, feed a cumulonimbus spell mana for a few hours at least. If this gets adapted as a regular lightning bolt I'll be royally pissed. Should be a scene that mirrors the one in S1 with cumulonimbus, but instead of the spell looking magestic, epic and impressive, it needs to look powerful and dangerous. That'd be kino.

The anime will never approach the depth of the characters and world building of the novels, mainly because of time constraints, the director from Season 2 part 1 said so himself in the interview featured in the special edition of Blue-ray. But unless they have enough episodes and resources at hand I just don't think they can approach a good adaptation. TP4 is an extremely tall wall to climb because of how the diary is structured so by itself it will be inferior the LN. I will give props to the background artists, and the music director/composers though. The Yuiko Oohara/Manyo combo has made some bangers that line up with the world and characters of MT. Some fights are well animated as well but that's just it. At this point I'm just looking for some scenes to be just good enough, but I'm not holding my breath. I can't lie, some POV chapters like Paul's and Zenith's being just cut made me feel bitter for the adaptation. Chunks of the story also being speed blitzed dealt the finishing blow for me to come to think of the anime as a failed project. I don't really know how unreasonable that is, but at this point I just see the anime as an advertisement for the LN and I'm not expecting anything great. I'd be more than glad to be shut up by Bind.
