I want my youthful days back
>>288068238when i was younger this anime made me so incredibly horny
>>288068264That was the point
>>288068272and thats a good thing
>>288068238I have tried multiple times to sit down and start watching this show but I can't make it past episode 1. Does it get better?
>>288068326The show is a show that you're meant to watch once a week. The show is mostly the same as episode one, similar to an 80s American sitcom. There are some mid episodes, and some really great ones. But episode 48 will not be much different from episode 1. The film is 100% DRAMA. The manga is also great. I wish they would remake this show with a the manga ending, rather than the anime original film ending. The 90s sequel film is meh
>>288068363The 90s sequel film was a lot better than the light novel it was adapting. At least it added the swimming pool scene that gave Kyosuke and Madoka a chance to reconcile with Hikaru. As for the second light novel in the series, I don't know what Izumi was smoking. Madoka has a fashion designer friend whose rival kidnaps her and tries to kill her by sacrificing her on an Aztec temple in Mexico? And Kyosuke discovers that if he teleports into a computer monitor, he can travel through cyberspace?
>>288068600I like to pretend that the light novels don't exist
>>288068238You want a curvy young woman who plays the saxophone and calls out your bullshit to get high on shrooms and try to rape you and psychic powers that let you turn into a cat.
>>288068238Those days are gone foreverYou should just let them go
>>288069395https://youtu.be/nXDVb7Atfx8?si=XEaFzHaFCyhvx0Zw
>>288068238be honest with yourself, you'd waste them again
>>288068326>but I can't make it past episode 1. Does it get better?LolnoEpisode 1 is by far the best it actually ever gets, the entire rest of the show just spins its wheels and less and less actually happens as it goes on. It's miraculously, brutally frustrating to try to watch in ways no other show I've seen is. It's somehow actually the worst the Japanese romcom genre has to offer in terms of actually doing anything interesting at all, completely in spite of everything its premise sets up.It's entirely sold on what kids nowadays would call 'vaporwave vibes'. You're legitimately better off watching any other given trashy soap opera romcom anime. The movies etc. basically recognize the whole thing was trash and try to subvert every thing about it, and you can basically skip the entire series and just watch them instead of it.
>>288068238This anime left me with some melancholy and nostalgic feelings which in my books means it’s great.I watched this show for Madoka originally but it’s crazy how by the end Hikaru was almost my all-time waifu. The movie was craaaazy. Not only did it punch you in the balls. It kept stepping on them over and over until there was nothing left. Straight up horror movie. On a side note, the anime looks like ai. I think a lot of ai “anime” stuff at least at one point used this show as a reference for its styling or something.
>>288068272Could Japan start making anime like this again to solve the population crisis?
When will we get the manga in-print again?
>>288069395How about no.
If Ranma can get a reboot...
For me it's Kyousuke's slutty little brat sister. And their kiss is still the hottest incestuous scene in anime because they had a real sibling relationship.
>>288068238What did she mean by this?
>>288071976You know I was joking to myself that this is a "she sees your penis" meme but it actually was, then I didn't know what to do.>>288071622Sure, romance is hotter than ever with all the permavirgins out there.
>>288071622High School Kimengumi is a better comparison, the two kind of felt like sister shows.
>>288071837This must be from an ova episode?Don’t remember this happening.
>>288071976Oddly hot.
>>288071622>rebootThey'd have to remove all the nudity, pantyshots, rapebaits, sexual harassment and in general all the "unsafe horny" and creepy stuff that would make normalfags uncomfortable. So it would be another censored and sanitized demake slop.
>>288068238At one point, I saw an image and thought I literally somehow missed an entire other Rumiko Takahashi series. Is the manga good? I can't watch anime, but I'll read it if the manga is good. And yes, this style isn't RT's personal invention, she aped it from Go Nagai and a lot of other sources.
>>288068326best part is honestly the 80s nostalgiait's not a particularly great show, but it's from a better time>>288073005the anime matched her style a bit more than the actual manga. I haven't read the manga I must admit.
>>288073005The manga is way worse.
>>288068238>Youth is wasted on everyone else.......
>>288069386Yes>>288069395I know. I have two kids now. I watch them play and enjoy their youth, and it has made me appreciate Head/Reiji Miyabi more
>>288072040Lol. So was I. I forgot about this scene
>>288073005I loved the manga. But again, like the tv series, don't try marathoning it.
>>288068326If you don't like the series, you should still watch the last two episodes (47-48) because it's got a legitimately good ending.
>>288071837Both of the sisters are good.God I wish I was their cat
>>288074588
>>288072890This. I rather have no new material than let Literal FAGGOTS touch a hetero-targeted material.
The first movie, "I want to return to that day" is by far the best thing about the franchise. It's so good in how it subverts the very premise of the show by grounding everything in reality, so much so it ends up being heart wrenching, and not in a cheap manufactured way. Of course Matsumoto hated it so much he stopped it from ever being rereleased on home video or brought to the west, until he eventually kicked the bucket and it was freed lmao. Imagine trying to bury such a great movie. God what a hack of a writer he was.
The 80s immersion was done well with this anime. Makes one long for the past. The characters would be in their late 50s now which makes it an interesting spectacle.
>>288075670That shit was torture. It hit really close to home for me because I know firsthand the cruel reality that it portrayed.I had a friend group in high school where 2 best friends who were girls liked the same guy. 1 was already dating the guy and eventually the other girl “stole” him and the original girl was just left in the shitter completely exiled; the long friendship just completely smashed. All of my bros in the friend group thought it was so fucked up but we couldn’t really do anything but watch. That movie portrayed the brutality quite well.
>>288075783I feel you anon, same thing happened in my friend group. But hey, it's part of life and eventually you become adult enough to recognize that stuff is all bullshit and true friendship shines through that stuff. In any case, have you watched White Album 2? Unrelated question, but not really...
>>288076097The crazy thing is that the guy and girl are still together to this day 11 or so years later. She’s like the perfect girl too from what I can tell. She has never had a different boyfriend besides him and she’s like a 9/10 with a 10/10 personality. Guy got lucky as shit. She honestly liked me too but I was a senior while she was a freshman and the guy she got with was a sophomore. The parallels between their situation with everything that happened and Orange road are pretty weirdly similar. >white album 2Haven’t seen that but I’d be open to watching it.You recommend?
>>288071976Kino
>>288071976It was her first time seeing a male penis.
>>288068363>The show is a show that you're meant to watch once a week.I think binge culture honestly just BROKE people. Everyone is just in a rush to finish anything they watch.
>>288068238You and everybody in here, mate; I wish I could go back to my early years and redo my entire life.
>>288075670It was released before he died. What are you on about?
>>288078784Agreed, mate. I watched this show, Touch, and Maison Ikkoku over the span of about a year, and it made the experience a lot more enjoyable. There was no burnout or no, "this is repetitive". These stories were meant to be enjoyed in 25 minute intervals once a week. It has its setup, its punch, and resolution. You watch, you laugh, you go on with your day.
>>288072890In this case, wasn't the anime already considerably toned down from the manga even in the 80s?
>>288080024 Part of what made a lot of older shows so memorable was the fact that we spent so much time with them. A favorite show becomes a kind of ritual. It becomes a habit and that sticks with you over time and this is how you really attach to certain characters like they were old friends. Shows that are too short might catch on if they're really good but when things are made to be binged it just seems like they're consumed and forgotten as soon as the next new thing comes out. Frankly I think we really need more sitcom shows that are made to last.
>>288080546>considerably toned down from the mangaNot really. The manga does have more nudity but 1) most of it is from chapters that weren't adapted and 2) the art in the manga is shit anyway. And honestly, it worked better that way. The anime is peak 80s romcom vibes because of it's top tier artwork and more tasteful approach. The manga reads off like a super sleazy trashy comedy with dogshit art.
>>288071976Giwtwm
The only reason the 80s were ever hyped up culturally is because generation X are the stupidest people that ever lived
>>288082344>t. zoomer who thinks 2009 was the best year ever
>>288068326the anime got a lovely artwork and an awesome ost, but unlike the manga it takes himself more seriously. the manga is a romcom with more com than rom, kinda like rumiko's works but better, so it's not a problem that it goes nowhere for so long. but if you cant even get past the first ep you can just skip it.
>>288082572I'm a 35 year old millennialyouGod damn brainless nigger AKA zoomer
>>288080639Spot on. It's what made the scrubs revival stick, because they made it very similar to the original seasons. It's also why no one can remember specific episodes of Netflix shows, but people can for Stargate, X-files, lost, etc. Metallic Rouge was probably the most egregious version of a show that was contemplating binge watching, and it was greatly hurt by it. A lot of shows, moreso in the Western live action sphere, but I've noticed it with a lot of anime as well, don't know how properly utilize their 23 minutes. I watch an older show, even if it's my first time watching it, and I don't get bored, but with a lot of modern shows, I often find myself 10 minutes in wondering how much time is left.
>>288082637>like rumiko's works but betterLOL! LUMAO EVEN!
>>288082572Anime peaked during 1991-1994the bubble didn't affect the quality of anime in any way

>>288076446Absolutely, especially since you liked Orange Road. Don't watch White Album 1 though, just 2. No, they're not related.

>>288083803Have you seen the True Form of the clitoris? It's basically a giant penis (female).
>>288068238Is Madoka a common nip name?
>>288068238Pure, unadulterated 80s kino. The epitome of 80s aesthetics. I get sentimental watching certain scenes, like the beginning of the second OVA, with Kyousuke, Madoka and Hikaru playing on the Hawaiian beach. That scene encapsulates for the nostalgia for the youthful innocent days. And then I think that>Furuya Toru is in his mid-70s and cancelled>Tsuru Hiromi has passed away>Hara Eriko has fucked off to god knows whereand I get depressed.
The 80s were shittiest decade for media and culture all around the world
>>288086244Yes>>288086386Every time I think about the show or rewatch an episode, I get a burning desire to listen to some city pop. And yeah, when Tsuru Hiromi passed away, I was saddened, firstly for her, but also for the fact that we would never get a remake or a sequel with the original cast. The seiyuu for Kasuga's dad already passed away a long time ago.
>>288086798>zoom zoom fingers typed this
>>288086940>The seiyuu for Kasuga's dad already passed away a long time agoYeap, he voiced Yang in LoGH. He died in the late 90s iirc. Kurumi's voice actress also died about a decade ago.
>>288068238me with OG Ranma and Tenchi
>>288086608she looks like a perv
>>288078784You're just using this as an excuse for how weak the show is.>>288080024>Touch, and Maison IkkokuBoth shows hold up much more either though, since it isn't the case that 90% of their episodes are just pure bait that fakeout from their very premise. It's the almost complete lack of 'punch' that kills the thing for me. It's almost like the series tricks you into having stockholm syndrome for it.
>>288086958I'm older than you, maybe not the members of gen X that might somehow happen to be here but you for sure

>>288087638>this anime only appeals to people who lived before internetI have; or at least my family was too poor a computer, let alone for early internet in the 90's.
>>288087638>GenericIt was a genre defining show. Madoka became a template for female romantic leads
>>288070913Thank you for this post anon. This anime is internally in my "someday I will watch the rest of this" folder. I assumed it had to get better over time to be viewed so fondly but sounds like it doesnt. Its just the same old will-they wont-they schlock. I knew from the second or maybe third episode it would the same thing as Ranma where nothing ever happens and then right at the end you maybe get a little bit of closure (but not really). At least Ranma is batshit over the top and fun. This one just seemed kind of depressing.
>>288073005I liked the mangaIt has a definite ending too unlike the anime
>>288087759Why don't you stick to JJK you dumb zoomer? This new generation just can't watch something on a weekly basis to have with the chatacters and get attached to them. They need "sonething to happen" to write theories and powerscaling shit.
>>288086386>The epitome of 80s aestheticsEspecially the first opening that was designed with the sole purpose of causing epileptic seizure. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xUHBABuuGDIAesthetics my ass.
>>288087903nigga this is peak sovl, hope you're just trolling.
>>288087865This is such absolute cope. Even something as silly and repetitive as Ranma can at least try to do shit and at feign some kind of engagement. Even as an episodic show it sucks dick because every fucking episode sets up a fake scenario that it cops out of and has turn out to be a misunderstanding, so absolutely everything is a nothing-burger and this wears thin super fast. The worst thing about KOR is how basically silently drops the entire hook of Madoka having this implied life of a delinquent who's rebeling against her well to do family and just has her get more boring as it continues. Ranma at least commits to actually being about proud and overly traditional families in modern Japan and the consequences of that, but KOR seemingly lacks the balls to actually even attempt anything during its run proper. Here the characters just get less and less interesting and like anything you'd want to be 'attached to' because the writing goes to shit and it just repeats the same interactions. You can like low quality trash but don't pretend it's something more. The weirdest shit is that the characters have all these bizarre powers that seem to go against the otherwise grounded setting for no reason but to sell it to the shounen mag readers. The only close to mildly interesting thing that results from this is the body swap episode.

The movie annoys the fuck out of me.I get they have to resolve the triangle and she can't keep hanging on but they had no right to completely kick her out of the friend circle. Especially as Hikaru was friends independently with Kyosuke's sisters.
>>288094472>kick her out of the friend circleShe kinda left on her own. And also she was 2 years younger. At the end of the movie Madoka and Kyousuke would be uni students, maybe even in a different city, and Hikaru would still be in highschool with Manami and Kurumi.
>>288094701Kinda hard to be friends with the sisters of someone who doesn't want to see her again. The manga just resolved it so much better. It was Kyosuke and Madoka's fault but they punished Hikaru for it.
