shallow and excessively melodramatic.
cryslop if you will.

It's way too heavyhanded in trying to make you cry, but it's still pretty good. Its major problem isn't even that it's too sad, rather that it tries to be as aad as possible and then do takesy backsies at the end. Nagisa should have stayed dead, and the wish should have only brought Ushio back to life (which also solves the whole "supernatural" problem).
You can say the orbs granted his wish, but it's also not something that couldn't reasonably naturally happen. Ends up seeing more like religious faith from the protagonist's pov rather than forced "it was all a dream" fiction.

Shallow?
No
excessively Melodramatic?
Yes
Still good though with enjoyable characters with clear character arcs and personalities. Especially the second season.

If you want shallow and excessively melodramatic cryslop from Kyoanus Violet Evergarden is just that.

it's similar to the suspension bridge effect, people think that just because it makes them feel something it's automatically good, even if those feelings are forced
same reason some think Punpun is good

It's made for women, it's physiologically impossible for you to get it.

Jesus what a retarded post. All creators intend for their readers or viewers to feel something, you're not a genius for discovering this.

It's great, one of the best anime/vn out there and an all time classic. Only contrarians hate it.

not shallow and the last 15 eps still are the peak of the anime medium. in the vn medium you have muramasa and fata morgana so is more difficult

Nothing will ever hit me as hard as the Nagisa death scene in the VN, i've seen the anime version afterwards and it's not even close. Just listening to the damn OST get me to tears
