Alright, it is Thursday and I am gonna post the sixth volume of Yashahime Princess Half-Demon. Feel free to react or comment on any panel, though I appreciate if image replies are not used during the dump. Feel free to discuss anything related to Yashahime (or Inuyasha) after the dump.

Yashahime was initially created as an anime-only sequel to Inuyasha by Sunrise. The designs of the main cast were provided by Rumiko Takahashi. I have not watched the anime. The manga adaptation was made after the first season and was written and drawn by Takashi Shiina, the creator of Ghost Sweeper Mikami and most likely the biggest Rumiko Takahashi fan in the world. As such, I decided to read and story time this series as well. My commentary will be sparse as I am completely new to the series, but I hope you enjoy the look into Shiina's take on the Inuyasha world.

Previous thread: >>287957087

I will be using the official localization of the manga by VIZ. Be aware that some of the larger images may have been edited to be lower quality due to image size limits.

As usual, Furinkan summarized Shiina's fairly detailed blog post. I'll be posting bits of the summary as it becomes relevant, though not necessarily in order.

This one has a really bad translation error in the chapter release, I'm wondering if the volume release fixed it.

Also we're going to catch up before Volume 10 gets released in September at this rate. Volume 9 dropped a few days ago.
>>
>>288103006
Furinkan mentioned that as part of the last thing on the blog:

""Well, basically every character has a bias of interpretation between the anime staff and me, and it can't be helped that the flavor is different from the original that Takahashi-sensei created... Last time and this time, with Inuyasha I used Takahashi-sensei's idea as a part of the slap that cuts towards Zero. Therefore, it can be said that the imagery is different, but the content is like that of the original, the genuine Inuyasha himself (laughs).""

I believe it refers to this attempted attack, but this is Furinkan's translation so I can't be 100% sure. But yeah, Shiina admits that ultimately, these will always be a combination of takes on the character that don't quite align with the original vision. But he does say that some of the stuff is directly from Takahashi. And it tracks for me that Takahashi would suggest that Inuyasha would immediately go on the attack.

More blog summary:

""Also, I would like to ask Kagome-chan to do a great job of verbalizing Zero-sama's true motives in detail. Zero is naïve like a little girl and is sulking about her love for the Sesshomaru and Inuyasha's father, and she has never been able to move forward from this... I don't think she would stand a chance, even as a villain, if a junior high school student pointed this out to her (laughs). And Kagome-chan has seen a concrete example of 'repressed and turned-away feelings giving birth to inconsistencies in behavior and outbursts.'"
Shiina states that he was surprised to be able to include a panal showing Naraku in the latest chapter. "Incidentally, I was able to draw a panel with Naraku this time. At first, I was just going to suggest it with a line of dialogue, but when my supervisor said to me, 'You have to draw him here!' I said, 'Oh, is that okay?' (laughs). No one forbade me to (from depicting Naraku), but somehow it had become a forbidden move for me.""

Not that Kagome is still a junior high school student.
>>
>>288103086
It's a little hard to believe the final volume still hasn't come out since the final chapter was translated by Viz on June of last year, so I don't blame you for assuming the volume was already out.

>>288103106
>Inuyasha's Mom
There it is.

Kagome actually says Gobodō-sama (御母堂様) here to refer to Sesshōmaru's mother, since that's what she prefers to be refferred to as. But because Kagome said it, I assume the translator got confused and also didn't know Inuyasha's mom is dead.

More blog summary from Furinkan:

"Regarding Rin, Shiina added, "As for Mama Rin-chan's actions here, I had been struggling with it since the start of the serialization because I wanted a sense that she was both 'the mother of princesses' and still 'the future of that little girl we saw in Inuyasha'. The manga does not have Mamiko Noto's voice, and the pictures are different. Therefore, I felt that the continuity with Inuyasha should be emphasized more than in the anime."
"As usual, I consulted with Rumiko Takahashi and my editor, who is an Inuyasha fanatic, and came to the conclusion that I wanted to portray a 'woman who still has a childlike personality' and a 'natural wife who can get along with her mother-in-law,' which I had done in the past, and this time I wanted to portray a 'gourmand mother' (laughs). I don't think there was any particular emphasis on this in Inuyasha, but it gives the impression of a girl who lived a strong life in the Warring States period, and she is like an old-fashioned mother telling her girls to 'just eat well.' I used food as a bonding symbol in volume 1 as well, so it works as a subject matter. However, in both the rough draft and the final manuscript, I wrote, "Like the 'ramen' that Towa had!" but the magazine changed it to "ramen" because they thought it was a typo, which was very frustrating. I was secretly smiling as I replayed "ramen" in Noto-san's voice in my brain while I was writing the manuscript (laughs).""

Furinkan kind of messed up that last bit about "ra-men". He stated that he originally had her say らめーん but the magazine changed it to らーめん. Essentially changing it from rameeen to raaamen.

More blog summaries:

"In his blog this month, Takashi Shiina explains that this marks the conclusion of the first half of the series and that Rumiko Takahashi and Katsuyuki Sumisawa both receieved the reunion of the parents and their children well.
Shiina goes on to state, "since the princesses are traveling in search of their parents, it would be normal for them to meet them again at the end of the story, but if they only know about their parents through personal stories, their motivation to 'meet them and save them at any cost' seems a little weak. So, I made the first half of the trip a climax, where the girls only meets their parents and learn of their love for them. If the emotional excitement of meeting them is depicted first, the story can be narrowed down to a description of the sense of accomplishment after the rescue.""

More blog summaries:

"Further, Shiina states, "The line 'It's only been a thousand years' by Sesshomaru-sama was one that I had intended to have him say from the time we decided on the time loop setting. I thought I could express both his demonic nature and his love for his wife and child at the same time. When describing his feelings, it is not good for him to be too human, but it is also not right to be too eccentric. He is a character for whom it is difficult to find a satisfactory place to put on a convincing performance. However, since I participated in the project, I knew that I must not be too timid and shallow in my approach. In other words, in the end, I throw it all in (laughs), and fortunately, Takahashi-sensei said yes again this time. It takes a lot of calories just to say, 'For you, hard work is nothing. But I think that's why the character becomes dramatic just by saying that one phrase.'"

Not easy to write Sesshomaru. I know I had mixed feelings about him as a character for a long time, some of which was likely due to some uncharitable readings of his behavior.

As before, I'll be taking bits and pieces of Furinkan's summary and translation of Shiina's blog and posting them when relevant.

""By the way, I'm sure there are some Japanese history buffs who instantly noticed, but the scenery I drew as the town of Sakai was actually modeled after the diorama of the National Museum of Japanese History, which recreates the area around Ryogoku during the Edo period. So, at the beginning, some might say "Is this is really the Sengoku period!?" My response is please understand that "Sakai during the Warring States period was so prosperous that it could be mistaken for the Edo period.""

>Even Kohaku calls their eyes 'Cool and intense.'

Good to know Shiina is also treading as fine line to not humanize him too much and retain some enigmatic aloofness while presenting these character growth moments.

Here's a small bit of that blog summary:

""This time, the main focus was on sorting out the situation and preparing for the next chapter, so in terms of the drama it was just "We're going to get on this ship," but I did my best on the small stuff, like "Lord Jaken, why are you green!?" (laughs)"

More blog summary:

"[The] subordinate was a guest-star, the villain of The Village of the Fighting Fish, the inverted-haired master. When I first saw this character, I was amazed at how Takahashi-sensei, a young lady from a good family, could portray such a savage rogue with such a strong sense of presence. However, in this work, he plays the role of a "tough-looking but good-natured person," so please enjoy the real charm of this character in the original Mermaid Saga. On the surface, this chapter revolves around Shiori and the half-demon princesses, but... well, more on that later.""

Furinkan refers to this character as the Sakagami Headman. He has a very recognizable visual design, but this is very clearly a different character for reasons that'll become obvious. There's so much Mermaid Saga in this, Shiina. I love that series so much too.

>>288105054
More blog summary:

"The model of the ship is the Kitamae-bune at the end of the Edo period, which is displayed at the Museum of Ship Science in Odaiba. However, Japanese-style boats were almost completed in the Middle Ages, and it seems that there were no major innovations after that, so I don't think there is any difference from the actual situation. Since I started this job, I've been visiting various museums for interviews, but it's really fun to think about the scenery that Kagome-chan and Towa-chan saw when they traveled back in time, so it's a great place to go during summer vacation. It's highly recommended for Inuyasha: A Feudal Fairytale fans. It's a bit disappointing that the Edo-Tokyo Museum is closed at this time."

End of chapter! Let's see if I can fit the rest of the blog summary. Nope, not quite. I'll be splitting it up.

"In his blog this month, Takashi Shiina explains his coronavirus diagnosis and goes on to say that he wanted to include Shiori in his comicalization. He points out that the anime had her guarding a hidden village of half-demons, but he since his story had taken the setting to the Seto Inland Sea, he felt he could repurpose her and include her here.
He goes on to discuss Takahashi's fondness for Shiori as she looked over his plans for this chapter. "Shiori is a character that Rumiko Takahashi-sensei has strong feelings for, and I have received reactions that seem to indicate that I have succeeded in stirring up Takahashi-sensei's image of Shiori. She said things like "This is an interesting setup," and "She thinks very highly of her encounter with Inuyasha, so I look forward to seeing how she and Moroha will talk to one another!" It made me very happy, but I'm under a lot of pressure. (laughs) When Takahashi-sensei saw my name (rough layouts) this time, she seemed to have a very clear image of "Shiori as an exterminator of the sea" in her mind, and she checked my dialog, character performance, and design very carefully even though I had only written two pages. Takahashi-sensei suggested, "I'm Shiori, I'm a half-demon," so I used exactly what she told me. So, I can say that the drawing may be different but the dialog is the real thing. (laugh)""

This is the cover. Anyway, before we get into this, let me post the rest of the blog summary from the month before.

""Shiori in the anime Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon was a character involved with Setsuna, but as Takahashi-sensei said, if I put more emphasis on the Inuyasha setting, Moroha would be the "benefactor's daughter", which would be a bit of a problem. Also, in my story's space-time, I don't really depict the discrimination and hardships of half-demons. I start from the premise that the three main characters have grown up being loved and accepted by the people around them, although they have had lonely times with their parents, so they are treated as "people with unique powers" rather than "inhumans". I would like to strike a balance in this regard and create a different image of this "elder sister" than what was depicted in the anime version.""

Sesshomaru is supposed to be like a chambara samurai when it comes to emotions. like, a simple 'hm' can express everything he needs to say. doesn't cry, doesn't verbalise his thoughts. a simple glance is enough. it reminds me of the story of two cowboys whose ranches shared a fence, so they'd see each other every day for 40 years, never sharing a word between each other and never even learning each other's names, yet still considering each other to be friends.
>>
>>288105278
Anyway, more Furinkan summary and translation of Shiina's blog, posted in order of relevancy to current pages. They note that: "Further, Shiina discusses Myoga's unwavering loyalty to Inuyasha and how he wished to revisit something from the original manga series." and quote Shiina with:

"According to Rumiko Takahashi, "Myoga has no mercy or respect for anyone other than the Inu no Taisho clan." In the original story, he didn't hesitate to advocate slaying a little girl to strengthen Tessaiga, right? I was rereading the Hyakki Bat Arc and thought, "This old man is awful!", so the opening scene was a punishment from me. (laughs)"

Also, this is unrelated, but I like that with Moroha meeting Inuyasha, she's more excited to hear stories of him.

Furinkan notes that: "Sea Goddess Mizuchi is called "Wadatsu Mizuchi" (ワダツミズチ) in the original Japanese." Furinkan notes that: "In his blog this month Takashi Shiina explains that the original sea serpent character in the anime version had a backstory involving a misunderstanding with humans, but because he wanted to move the story along and focus more on the central characters he omitted this and opted for a simple "sea hunt" story instead." and quotes him regarding the changes to her appearance:

"I love reptiles, and I've never found them too creepy. Aren't their wide eyes super cute? Moreover, sea snakes have round and thick necks, and although they may be dangerous, they look charming. So, I changed Sea Goddess Mizuchi's hair from the anime's sea snake style to a deep sea fish style. Deep-sea fish can be cute depending on how you look at them, but if I was going to create a "sea hunt" monster, I wanted a symbol that would make it easy to understand at a glance that it was "ferocious" and "lives in a world that's very different from humans'." I think it looks more like a medieval monster with her breasts exposed, but I chose to have her wear a swimsuit to avoid having her breasts covered in all sorts of ways. "
>>
>>288105415
>>
>>288105420
Furinkan notes that "Further, Shiina discusses having to compromise an element of historical accuracy he wanted to include when his editor and his wife (who is Rumiko Takahashi's former assistant) insisted he omit it." and quotes him:

"I wanted to depict Riku in a loincloth, not because it was simply my taste, but because it was the Sengoku period and he was on the sea, so I thought a loincloth would be the correct costume. I had seen Toshiro Mifune in a loincloth many times in (Akira) Kurosawa's period films. However, my editor and wife firmly refused to allow me to do so (laughs), so I compromised by removing only the upper half of his outfit. I thought that wearing a loincloth would have emphasized the sense of "blending in with the ruffians" more, but... well, I also thought that it might not be appropriate for a serious scene, so I decided not to show Riku in a loincloth. (laugh)"

I guess it is a bit too comical an outfit in Japan. Or maybe too distracting in other ways.

Per Furinkan: "Shiina also discusses some of the other changes he made from the anime, as he felt having the barrier around the village that Shiori was able to generate should not be possible after the loss of the Red Stone that Inuyasha sliced to add its powers to the Red Tessaiga." They quote Shiina's blog:

"In the anime version, Shiori was "protecting the half-demon village with a powerful barrier." However, in Inuyasha, the story ended with the destruction of the barrier amplification device's Red Stone, so I think some adjustments are needed. While the anime focuses on introducing Sengoku Otogi Zoshi to a wide range of new generations, the manga version is based on the concept of an "Inuyasha pastiche." Therefore, in order to bridge the gap that the manga artists who draw the manga are different people, it is necessary to strengthen the continuity. Then, while mentioning the loss of Red Stone, I came up with the concept of a "powerful but momentary force field." The hearing and ultrasonic waves are based on the anime settings, and the depiction of a bat as a familiar is omitted due to the setting being on the sea. I don't know what to say, but did you notice the pattern on her obi?"

I'll be honest, some of these translations are so direct that it is hard to tell exactly what Shiina means. "in order to bridge the gap that the manga artists who draw the manga are different people" That... is not a good sentence, Furinkan. Surely that's not the best way to translate it.

More Furinkan blog summaries:

"Shiina explains the audiology of Shiori's powers, explaining that his research suggested that bat's screeches are at a higher pitch than even dogs can hear, and that creating bubbles using sonic abilities and speaking directly to people through echo-location in their bones was a "manga super science" sort of thing. He added that since this is a world where Ginkotsu of the Band of Seven existed, he felt it was okay to play with science in that way a bit."

Yeah, it is funny for Shiina to worry about science and anachronisms after all that.

Furinkan quotes the blog some more:

"What do you think of Riku's yokai mode? I believe that a yokai is not only a creature that possesses unusual abilities, but also a monster that is fundamentally outside of the human race, but Riku in the anime is very polite about not revealing too much of that. I think it's erotic to reveal your true nature that you wanted to keep hidden for the sake of someone you care about. Sensei's favorite is when a cornered female non-human character reveals her true self and then says, "Don't look at me when I'm like this...!" The most important thing to remember is that the most important person in your life is you. And as a symbol of direction, "taking off the kimono" is already a metaphor for "opening up," "becoming vulnerable," "freeing oneself," etc. If it is true, then that scene with the loincloth... (I'm still talking about that)."
>>
>>288106028
Furinkan also mentions that: "Perhaps coincidentally Rumiko Takahashi was publishing chapters in MAO between this chapter of Yashahime and the following month's that also deal with sonics and audiology. Perhaps Shiina's research inspired a similar direction in her own work at the time."

Maybe, but I'm not sure. It was Chapter 201.

Per Furinkan: "We see a sinister looking Dappya Man and Lost Soul from Urusei Yatsura and Mermaid Saga respectively among the sea demons preparing to attack Towa and Setsuna. In his blog notes, Shiina also comments that one of the creatures looks like Shiori's grandfather, Taigokumaru, but he would leave that to the reader's imagination if it was somehow him back from the dead. He explained that he had considered that his spirit still existed as a grudge against Shiori, but was no longer nearly as powerful as he had been when he was alive. He said this might give the reader that he has pursued Shiori during all the years between her appearance in Inuyasha and her appearance here."

Dappya Man is the nickname given to the half-fish men that originally debuted in Those Selfish Aliens (勝手なやつら) where they were referred to as 半魚人 (Hangyojin). They had a vocal tic in original Japanese of "dappya", so people call them Dappya Men.

Also, Furinkan notes that on the blog: "Shiina gives a backstory to Zuchi, explaining that he imagines her as one of a trio of sea serpent sisters from the Mediterranean Sea. He explains one is killed in the "original myth" (likely a reference to Medusa and her gorgon sisters given the petrifying powers shown or perhaps to the myth of Scylla and Charybdis). The other two sisters, he explains were evil (Mizuchi) and good (the kinder version shown in the anime adaptation)."

Per Furinkan: "Knight/night - In English to emphasize that Towa was not certain of what was initially being explained to her they say "Night's Oath" rather than "Knight's Oath". In Japanese this was similarly done by having Rion tell her "naito" (ないと) in hiragana, having Towa then say it in katakana (ナイト) after realizing it was a foreign word. Towa then asks "If she meant 'kishi'?" (騎士). "Kishi" is the term used for a medieval European knight (or a samurai on horseback)."
>>
>>288106358
Furinkan also says: "In his blog Shiina mentions Riku becoming Towa's knight, and adds that it was a coincidence that Takahashi was bestowed the Order of the Chevalier recently (which means Order of the Knight) by the French government. He explains that Takahashi's ceremony did not involve having a sword tap her shoulder and she does not become "Sir Rumiko Takahashi" as with English knighthoods. He goes on to explain that he wanted the knighting ceremony to symbolize Riku's rebirth as an independent person, though he added that his editor was unfamiliar with the knighting ceremony and thought his readers might not understand it. Shiina explained that it would be alright if readers do not understand and only later see a knighting ceremony and remember they saw something like that in the Yashahime manga. He explains that most of his knowledge of such ceremonies comes from Riyoko Ikeda's The Rose of Versailles (ベルサイユのばら/Berusaiyu no Bara)."

I guess I shouldn't be surprised there are Japanese people unfamiliar with this, but I sort of assumed this stuff was as known as fire-breathing dragons and wizards.
>>
>>288106397
Furinkan notes that: "[Shiina] explains that Shiori telling the pirate that her mother only likes handsome men was a reference to Shiori's very good-looking father that was briefly shown in the original series."
>>
>>288106410
End of chapter. Furinkan notes that: "Dan-no-ura (壇ノ浦) is the historic name of Shimonoseki between Yamaguchi and Fukuoka. The Battle of Dan-no-ura (壇ノ浦の戦い/Dan-no-ura no tatakai) took place here during the Genpei War in 1185." and also mention that on the blog, "[Shiina] adds that the story now moves to Kyushu in the next chapter and that Hisui and Kohaku will help set up the action for the second half of the series."

Per Furinkan: "The Otomo clan (大友氏/Otomo-shi) and Mori clan (毛利氏/Mori-shi) were rival clans battling one another at the end of the 15th century. The Mori clan were known for their seamanship, while the Otomo clan are remembered as being one of the first to make contact with Westerners. As a result they developed a working relationship with the Portuguese that arrived in Japan and had dealings with missionary Francis Xavier."

Per Furinkan: "Hakatanotsu (博多津) is modern day Fukuoka City (福岡市/Fukuoka-shi)."

Furinkan summarizes the last bit of the blog this month with: "Shiina further jokes that the real reason Shiori could not got to Nagasaki was because this is when the feudal warlord Mori Motonari (毛利元就) was going to invade Kyushu around this time. He said his editor insisted she should not continue on the journey regardless of Shiina's trying to argue for it, but he jokingly said he imagined Rumiko Takahashi would have told him to not include her any further had he pressed the point."

The first bit wasn't a joke, it seems to be literally the reason stated in the story. Unless I am misunderstanding something.

I'll have to split up this note a bit. Furinkan noted that: "In his blog Shiina explains that Hisui and the adult version of Kohaku were essentially new characters and as a result wanted to feature them more in the manga than he felt they were in the anime version."
>>
>>288102792
What the? When the fuck did this start? I thought you said you weren't going to be doing Yashahime at all back when the Inuyahsa dumps stopped, OP.
>>
>>288106943
Furinkan then quotes the blog regarding Kohaku:

""The (Yashahime) anime Kohaku was an adult with a stable personality who had gotten over his past. He is almost a different character, whereas the other old regulars have not changed much from those days. However, the freckles on his nose have been replaced by scars, which symbolically speaks of his life. In the manga version, I focused on this point and made Adult Kohaku a character who acts like an adult on the surface, but inside he is still a scarred boy frozen in his heart. It may be a little difficult for little kids to grasp, but as a big friend who has known them for more than 20 years, I wanted to see something like that (laughs)."

>>
>>288102946
Yeah, I get why Sesshomaru did it.
>>
>>288106991
Furinkan continues to quote the blog:

"This time, I was able to depict Kohaku returning to the "boy from back then" once more. Initially, Kirara was not scheduled to show up, and Kohaku was also supposed to appear riding on Shippo's top, but when I was drawing the picture, a voice in my heart said, "Kirara is also needed in this scene." On the surface, it's said that "Kirara followed Hisui because she was worried about him," but the real reason is probably because Kohaku regained his young boy's heart. Only those with the hearts of boys and girls are qualified to ride on Kirara's back. The comicalize version of Kohaku, who took on the responsibility as the village headman and chose to ride a horse, was probably sealing away his childhood and leaving it behind.

I also like the way he puts all the adult responsibilities on his brother-in-law, Miroku, in order to start over as a "boy" himself. I don't know why I love the description of the brothers-in-law sharing their wounds with each other, even though there was no such depiction of this in the original story. I don't know much about Takahashi-sensei's thoughts on this, but perhaps this is what you call a "fan's desire"? His brother-in-law Miroku is suffering from a craving and hatred for the Wind Tunnel, a complex feeling that rears its head every time he feels helpless. I think the way out is to "rely on one's friends without trying to solve everything by oneself", so maybe this is for Miroku as well."

It is an interesting take on Kirara given that the entire cast rode Kirara but then again, they were young and brash. They certainly weren't world-weary people. I think I get what Shiina means, even if it sounds a bit odd translated.

So, yeah, Akuru does have the small form in this continuity too. And I have no idea what it means to be ancient Egyptian metaphorically, but there ya go. I have never thought of Sesshomaru's mother as being inspired by ancient Egypt, but maybe Shiina knows something I don't.

>>
>>288107224
Per Furinkan: "[Shiina] also says how much he's enjoying getting to draw Shippo and that his line about "after putting up with Inuyasha's roughhousing for years, I'm tougher than I look," seemed like something that the character himself wrote rather than Shiina coming up with it himself."

Before I start my volume commentary, I’d first like to respond to this comment that I never got a chance to last thread since it died before I could get to it.

I didn’t fake that translation, I found it on Reddit and was just as shocked myself once I saw VIZ’s official translation from here in the storytime. I have no idea who the original fan-translator was or how could they make such a colossal mistake like they did, another fellow SessToga fujo perhaps? While I’m grateful I’m not the only one with such good taste, I’m just as mad as you are anon at them falsely getting my hopes up like that. Oh well, hopefully the upcoming pages of Kirinmaru waxing about Sesshomaru’s feelings for his father isn’t a fake translation either, even if it is this shit is non-canon anyways so why should I care? Sesshomaru is clearly a fathercon in the original manga Rumiko wrote.

Now onto the commentary…

Now it makes sense why she accepted Sessomaru’s advances even though she clearly never had any romantic feelings for him (you know besides the fact she was groomed), she was playing the long-game and thinking of her future kids, maybe that’s even why she started following him in the first place, who knows. It’s funny though because Sessrincels used to constantly insecurely bash Kagura and say shit like “she’s only using Sesshomaru to get free from Naraku, she doesn’t truly care about him” and now their precious Rin goes and says something like this? My how the tables have turned… Looks like Rin was the one who’s actually been using Sesshomaru all along, kek!

>”Ra-men”
>Doesn’t even know what Ramen is
Still had the brain of a child as well.

>As usual, I consulted with Rumiko Takahashi and my editor, who is an Inuyasha fanatic, and came to the conclusion that I wanted to portray a 'woman who still has a childlike personality'
Yep, definitely not beating the pedo accusations with a comment like this. Thanks for confirming yet again that Sessrincels are all just a bunch of pedophile lolicons, yes we’ve been known Shiina that the only appeal of this ship is pedophilia for men and self-insert slop for women, and yes it’s obvious Rin hasn’t aged a day in mentality in either the anime or manga and honestly both looks and acts younger than her own daughters, glad you finally admitted it too!

>Sesshomaru calling Kagome by her name
OOC! He never addresses anyone by their name except his closest associates, both friend and foe.

>>288103863
>”I’ve got a bone to pick with you Sesshomaru!”
Yes, PLEASE finally escape the OOC hell this trash fanfic has put you in Inuyasha and give Sesshomaru the beating you he deserves for not only separating you from your own daughter for 14 years and grooming and impregnating the child in his care, but then having the AUDACITY to expect you and Kagome to raise said spawn from his child grooming. Please give this imposter Sesshomaru the beating of his life, he deserves it! Hopefully Kagome won’t try to stop you with a Sit this time like she did in the anime.

>All Kagome can think of is holding and protecting Moroha once she finally gets free, you know like a proper adult mother would?
>Meanwhile all Rin can think about is food and making her own kid cook for her
You know, just like a child? Sasuga Rin, you haven’t grown up one bit and definitely weren’t ready to be a mother.

That being said…

>Moroha even cries like Kagome
Aww, cute! I actually really like how Moroha seems to slightly take more after her mother than her father all things considered, I think it would’ve been too easy to just make her a female copy of Inuyasha and be done with it, but she’s honestly more like Kagome in personality than Inuyasha in the long run. I wonder if her would-be brother Rumiko had originally planned would’ve been the opposite and taken slightly more after his father? It’s fun to imagine.
>>
>>288104333
>”Your eyes look like Rin’s”
LIAR, no they don’t. Neither of the twins resemble Rin one bit, which is further proof that Rumiko never designed them with a particular mother in mind, but it’s funny how Shiina is attempting to do damage-control on this front by using Sesshomaru as Sumisawa’s mouthpiece and having him TELLING the audience that Towa actually does look like Rin. No she doesn’t Posermaru, no matter how much you try to convince us otherwise she’ll never look like Rin.

>>288104342
“…I shall cherish that sight forever”
OOC count number 8! Sesshomaru would never think such sentimental thoughts to himself like that.

>>288104997
>Towa resembles her grandfather
HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! She’s more like SessToga’s kid than she is Sessrin’s, I know Toga is her actual biological grandfather but the fact that she resembles him so much more than even her own mother fills me with great joy like you wouldn’t believe. Oh by the way, the twins also look like Kagura more than they ever did Rin, take that Sessrincels!

>>288105199
>Rumiko wanted Shiori to put more emphasis on Moroha
Good, as she should! Moroha’s father was the one who saved her, it was ridiculous she even had anything to do with Sesshomaru’s kids in the first place.

Speaking of OOC Sesshomaru wanking… Like with Shiori I’m glad the manga at least fixes Miroku and Sango giving a shit over their missing best friends and keeping watch over them + helping to take care of Moroha in their absence. It was absolutely ridiculous the way they fawned over Setsuna so much in the anime when they never even had anything to do with Sesshomaru in the original, meanwhile they all but ignored Moroha, their best friends’ daughter. Yeah, sure, very believable Sumisawa…

>>288106921
>Miroku wangsting over the loss of his Wind Tunnel
This also feels OOC, the Wind Tunnel was the very bane of his existence and his entire journey was centered on getting rid of it, now he almost misses it? After all that trauma he went through with BEES? Fuck outta here with that shit!

>Kohaku begging to serve by Sesshomaru’s side again
Didn’t he steal your girl? Maybe the fandom was wrong all along to be shipping KohRin and the real person who Kohaku always had a crush on was Sesshomaru himself? Hey as a fujo I’m not complaining, Kohaku is certainly more Sesshomaru’s type than Rin is in any case seeing as how he was meant to be gay.

>>288107028
>Rin is…strong
Rin is… OOC

>>288107224
>This is the first time Moroha has ever met Shippo
OOC count number 10! You’re telling me that after how close the entire Inugang were with each other and all were practically found family, Shippo wouldn’t be right there growing up alongside Moroha as a sort of brother figure from day one? Oh fuck off Sumisawa! (This honestly feels more like a Sumisawa thing than something Shiina incorporated on his own, since Sumisawa did hate the Inugang and liked to put them down whenever he could just to prop up Sesshomaru’s group more).
>>
Anyways pretty good volume, as good as anything Yashahime could be that is. I enjoyed the little mini-reunion between Moroha and InuKag, and I really like Shiina’s interpretation of Shiori, much better than the anime which had Shiori remain a wallflower type, Shiina gave her some much needed spunk and sass and let her truly grow up in every sense of the word.

I also enjoyed the little ship excursion and always thought it was a missed opportunity that Inuyasha Proper never had a ship episode considering how JRPG-like it is, and battling demon Krakens on a ship while sailing across the World Map is one of the classic JRPG staples y’know? I’m glad Shiina managed to rectify this, it just doesn’t feel like a proper adventure without at least one ship episode and reference to pirates.

I’m also finding the development of the Ritowa ship much better than in the anime as much of a discount & retread of SessKagu that it is, still I appreciate that Sumisaw and Shiina are acknowledging SessKagu in this way if only because because it triggers the Sessrincels and makes them seethe kek.

Sessrin stuff was OOC cringe as usual but that’s par for the course and should be expected.

>>288109199
>Rin was always quietly the best girl, not just because "uooh cute & funny" but rather because she was simply a pure soul. sweet, kind, caring, devoted.
Sure, if you like boring and submissive Mary-Sues who are nothing but a Waifubot like Hinata… What absolute shit taste, literally any other Inuyasha girl is better and more interesting than fucking Rin, see they actually have a little something called “personality” and aren’t just devoted yes-men to their husbandos the way Rin is to Sesshomaru.

Also this volume just outed Rin as a gold-digger too so she’s not even that “pure” either.
>>
>>288109991
>Well that would certainly explain why they’re so much more powerful than normal demons. And why Inuyasha could travel through the well even without a jewel shard, being the descendant of a Time God.
Retcon shit, remember Yashahime’s plot and OCs didn’t exist in Rumiko’s mind back then nor did she even create them. And Inuyasha CAN’T in fact time travel all freely willy-nilly like that since remember, he was kicked out of Kagome’s era and never able to use the Well again once the Jewel was wished away.

I think the Jewel’s existence was what was enabling him to time travel freely, my theory is that’s it all tied to Kikyo’s final thoughts on her deathbed. See she wised to see Inuyasha again, and the Jewel interpreted this as a wish on her part so it bound Inuyasha to her reincarnation to the point where he’s even able to cross time & space unfettered just to be able to be by her side. Of course since this is the Shikon Jewel we’re talking about here it never grants one’s EXACT wish but rather twists it around, so rather than Kikyo getting to see Inuyasha again it was her REINCARNATION, so not exactly Kikyo herself.

Character development that we actually saw Sesshomaru gradually earn in the original as he began to feel compassion and genuine care towards Rin. Meanwhile nothing shown in either Inuyasha or Yashahime convinces me that it’d be believable for Sesshomaru to suddenly turn into a hardcore romantic and think sweet nothings to himself (or even develop romantic feelings for Rin in the first place).

There’s a difference between earned character development and outright OOCness with no regard to characterization, learn it.

There was one who transitioned unflatteringly as a representative of cuty okama in Happy Talk in 1984. She was not fond of this one and it didn't get collected until later. Though I think that was simply because the story was a bit aimless and the conclusion was weak. She did have a much more flattering portrayal of one in a one shot from 2009 called Birds of Fate, where Mai-san basically looked like any other pretty woman in Rumiko stories.

These are much more grounded portrayals than anything like Ranma, though I will admit Konatsu also pretty much counts. Though in this case, it has nothing to do with that. These are sisters that just look like the brothers.

But if I had to place a reason behind it, its popularity is probably an 'opposites attract' angle. Kagome has that cheerful optimistic energy to be a stark contrast to Sesshomaru's cold and distant attitude.

That's the main reason people like SessRin, it's a popular trope for a reason.

>Admittedly, that might only be because you never called the actual creators pedos when others gave hurled insults at real people.
He's done exactly that, though. Maybe not in these threads, but he's done this shit in every other Yashahime thread at the time when it was airing.
>>
>>288128698
Based on these threads alone I'm not convinced they even hate SessRin but actually just Sesshomaru in general, seems like everything they post was written specifically for a slander campaign.
>>
>>288125060
The "Sessrin hater" is a completely unhinged schizo who has been lurking and shitting up Yashahime threads since it was announced. It initially started with prolific cope and shitposting when it was unclear if Towa and Setsuna were Sesshomaru's kids with Rin, but the INSTANT it was confirmed with no room for any doubt, it immediately turned into the vilest spam using every ounce of garbage from the ass-end of Twitter and Reddit to shit up every Yashahime thread until they were either pure schizophrenia top to bottom or they just died early. Those threads were almost entirely stuff like "OOC", "fanfic", "Sesshomaru has been made into a pedo/Sesshomaru is not a pedo", some autistic bullshit saying that Sesshomaru would have gotten with some made-up OC instead, constant replying to anyone who even tried to discuss the show or characters in good faith to bitch at them about his schizo BS, etc.

This shit eventually got so bad that it even started spilling over into non-Yashahime Inuyasha threads. There was a period where you literally could not talk about Inuyasha at all because of this one subhuman having made it his life's mission to defend his autistic headcanon of how Sesshomaru would "really" behave in canon.

Well, maybe they grew as a person since then. Or maybe they're trying to play nice. Either way, like, I don't like SessRin really either. And it is easy to just say shit on 4chan so people can act out, so while I wouldn't do it, I could see winding myself up over time. It isn't good, but it isn't the end of the world as long as we can maintain our composure.

Me personally I'll just ship characters because it's fun or hot or both. It's not that deep and I dunno why people get so worked up over their headcanons.
>>
>>288128848
>Well, maybe they grew as a person since then.
They've sent the entirety of this storytime being an insufferable that. Like hell they have.
>>

Would make sense.

This is the crackest of crackships good lord
>>
>>288128045
If SessKag was only based on cuckshit there would be way more porn of them than there actually is let's be honest here
>>
>>288128045
>what is the appeal of SessKag?
Dunno, Sesshomaru only really wants his father’s sword (both literally and figuratively) and is gay af, but personally if I had to pair him with a woman I prefer either SessKagu or SessKik. The former for obvious reasons the latter because Rumiko actually one said in an interview that Kikyo is apparently Sesshomaru’s ideal type of woman, plus there was a parody Drama CD where they were shipped together too, so I think either Kagura or Kikyo are the most canon women you can pair Sesshomaru with that’ll make the most amount of sense. SessKag always seemed a little too out there for me, still better than Sessrin of course since at least it’s not pedoshit.

>>288128793
>he
>his
I’m a girl (female) actually.

>Everyone that hates Sessrin is just one person!
lmao if that were true, Inutwit, TikTok, Tumblr, and the Rumic subreddits wouldn’t be in the state that they’re currently in now would they? Nor would there even be a need for a HOAD that got made pretty much as soon as Sessrin was confirmed “canon.”

I’ll let you in on a little secret anon, those early days of Sessrin bashing and trolling while the anime was airing wasn’t just done by me, it was a whole group of us from Discord, I just happen to be one of the few who still posts here.
>>
>>288111829
>would a troll go to these lengths?
>>288129978

dumbass hahaha

Nice.

I’m not trolling now am I? That server has long been disbanded.
>>
>>288130160
>I’m not trolling now am I?
you have been for six threads now

I know you mentioned like 3 threads ago that its a different fujo who makes all of the aislop of Sess getting fucked and demeaned by black men so now I'm going to just assume you both are from that same server
>>
>>288130133
>They both have a soft spot for kids
>Both are stoic, elegant and emotionally repressed
>Both are the biggest rivals and foils for our two main protagonists Inuyasha and Kagome
>Both are a little bit (or a lot in the case of Sesshomaru) racist
>Both have some of the highest and most respected positions/titles in their respective socities
>Both were close with Kohaku and watched over him in some way
>Kikyo is of the walking undead, Sesshomaru’s Tenseiga can literally revive the dead
This ship pretty much writes itself, it’s a crime they never even interacted at least once in canon.
>>
>>288130194
>you have been for six threads now
Participating and commenting on the storytime isn’t trolling, there’s no rule that says all commentary must be completely positive. My behavior is completely different from how it was back when the anime was airing and I was running with that crowd.
>>
>>288130225
>there’s no rule that says all commentary must be completely positive
no but you're not providing commentary, you're just agendaposting and it's blatant

you could at least post some nice art every now and then to actually provide something in the thread with some basic substance, instead we just get your brainrotted takes and you start malding and calling Rumiko a hack or a sellout any time your points get refuted
>>
>>288130254
Like that other anon said I think they just hate Sesshomaru in general and want to slander him. It's no coincidence that as soon as they stopped posting last thread people who hate Sess and type just like them started being active.

Post them anyway. Just like shipping, who cares? Just be mindful to not photo dump while OP is offloading a chapter and nobody should at least complain about that.

...On second thought SOME people might give you a hard time over it for no reason just because you've made such a big target out of yourself around here. But at least I don't care enough to.

>it’s a crime they never even interacted at least once in canon
There was that time Kikyo saved Rin from that band of seven doctor, but I think that's it.

You seem a little too obsessed with canon though. Movie 1 is still a good time and they talked briefly in that.

Not to pull clout or anything, but I genuinely don't think any of the commentary in these threads has been unacceptable. Especially for 4chan standards. I could use all the engagement I can get, because otherwise these threads get very empty.

I mean, I don't care for Sesshomaru much. I think he served his narrative role well enough, but I don't find his development nearly as compelling or earned as fans of him. I don't think there's any deceit going on here.

Because /a/ is literally dying, every month it gets worse. After that Chainsawman ending it got even worse
>>
>>288133201
OP, inviting ahitposting is never Conducive to thread health. Take it from someone with experience. Even if it keeps a thread alive in a zombie state, you'd unironically be better off just letting it die quietly.
>>
>>288134992
Well, I've been doing this for like, two and a half years now? And I got like a month left. As long as no one insults the creator's own character significantly, I don't care a bit. And I put up with that for almost all of the story times toward Rumiko Takahashi herself so it is what it is. Do I agree with the takes in question being posted here? The vast majority of them I consider nonsense, but there's some stances that are reasonable and that's enough for me to interpret their behavior as beyond simply trying to get a reaction. And since they have a name, you can just filter name and it is completely fine. Everyone wins. There's no much Yashahime left and we all will move on.

You think with Yashahime, SessRin is the #1 ship among young girls in Japan? It was hard to find a shot of Sesshomaru without in Rin in it on pixiv.
