Now for Re:Zero, it panders to normalfags. Subaru is designed to be just a teeny tiny bit inferior to an average normal person with him sperging out so you can still overall relate to him but also feel that you'd be able to do better than him. This part of Subaru being below average makes the series stand out because it's able to walk this fine line and makes it successful unlike other "grimdark isekai" such as Grimgar which kinda fell flat as it's trying to be too radical in terms of being "subversive" where the main cast is portrayed as too incompetent making them not be relatable enough to care and it banked too much on being "different from other isekai" which from what I have seen never seems to work out other than with Konosuba because it actually focuses on being funny and not on being a parasite on the isekai setting. Anyway, Re:Zero makes it works and manged to pander to normalfags. Slime on the other hand targets a specific niche of richfag managers. What's important is that it's not aiming at an "average salaryman" audience as many other isekai do, but the actual managerial class from as low as team-leaders all the way to CEOs. This niche has a upper "hard-cap" in terms of quantity, but many of them buy everything that's available in the franchise, such as the now 10 or so spin-offs, along with merch and also put money into the gacha. As we can see, in this case going for a specific niche turned out better than going for the broadest-possible general audience.
