I really like mushoku tensei. It saddens me that every single thread on /a/ about it devolves into autistic nigs battling. I've read the web novel, the LNs, the manga, the roxxy manga, listened to the audiobooks, watched the anime, and even played some of the shitty videogames. I would like to talk about it more constructively with others. I enjoy the character development and continuity of relationships throughout the main storyline. But What makes MT special to me is the setting and the lore of the human world. It's one of the most interesting and fresh feeling fantasy worlds I've seen in Japanese slop. The sword styles and their practitioners are a particular favorite of mine. I also enjoyed how the first season of the anime interpreted the descriptions of the major cities.

The main point I think is that a lot this stuff is basically highly speculative (minus obviously the history of how these styles came to be), and you kind of have to accept when a battle aura "guy" does something and just assume it's some "special technique" or due to their bloodline, and battle aura almost feels like a proper power system separate from, but equal to magic, it just lacks the same amount of information and "how it works" that magic had. Which is a shame, it has a lot of potential and cool stuff even with the info already given, I just think Rifujin didn't see much point in developing it too hard when the MC is a mage that can't even tap into it so he just kind of gives some pieces of info here and there just so you're aware of threat level and strategy. To I guess "substantiate" my point, if you read early WN Q&As, Rifujin generally change his mind a lot, often times he gave answer to stuff that later contradict what he wrote (so he just change his mind mid writing), with battle aura it seems pretty constant he didn't know exactly what he wanted to do with it.

Alek was just tanking all of it. He basically gave zero fucks and the dudes were just breaking their swords on his face. So why such a difference? Alek IS stronger, but not by a astronomical amount. And getting hit with a lightspeed sword swing is a big deal, that's some serious defense power. Here you can come up with various reasons, but the truth of the matter is, the fact that multiple equally reasonable explanations can come up is the issue. Because if there was more information to battle aura mechanics to the same "density" as magic, then there would be a certain answer. Questions, questions, questions. Each has a an array of very possible answers. I dislike that, personally. Then you have other contradictions: Badigadi is generally really tough, true. Then in one chapter where he and Geese drop down a deep hole to retrieve the FGA Badigadi gets obliterated by the fall. I'm not a fan, because Rifujin clearly can write a proper power system, it just seems to me he didn't know exactly the direction he wanted with the battle aura stuff.
