All of Gundam plays with the concepts of the Gundam as the avatar of war/a mask that swallows the wearer/an invincible weapon that shows the limits of what can be achieved through violence. Turn A is one that I think best shows the futility of trying to use this symbol as a simple tool, with the single strongest scene being Dianna hiding as a nurse trying to launder soldier's uniforms, and Loran using the Gundam as a washing machine/clothesline scaffold and quite literally washing the blood from Dianna's hands.It's a long fucking show though and the first half has both a lot of setup that isn't paid off until later and a lot of fluff that stings even more when the pacing is faltering. I still think it hits its stride and pays off that time invested, but it's definitely lacking the 'wow cool robot' immediate appeal.
