What anime got really popular when you first started lurking /a/?
I was here for Madoka Magica's final episodeAm I still a newfag?
CODE GEASS CODE GEASS CODE GEASS CODE GEASS CODE GEASS CODE GEASS CODE GEASS CODE GEASS CODE GEASS
>>288134631This, R2 started a couple of months after I became a regular here.And I never watched it.
>>288134592Fall 2005. For seasonal anime, it was Aria, Shana, Mai Otome, and maybe Blood+Seasonal shit was overshadowed by Bleach and Narutards, unfortunately.
>>288134592Kill la Kill
>>288136211
>>288134592came because TTGL was fucking massive site-wideimmediately ended up watching an obscure seasonal
>>288136055I never understood why certain people barely branched out from Naruto and Bleach. Did they not watch Adult Swim or Toonami beforehand lol? Did they not want to watch any mecha at all? Heck even some of the narutards in school during that time period had NO interest in NGE when it was airing on Adult swim
>>288134592My Hime
>>288134592Panty & Stocking
>>288134592Haruhi got me into this board right when it first started airing.
>>288136871>obscure seasonalAside from the fact that all TV anime is seasonal, which one?
MARReal oldfags remember
Oh no, the anime for OPM came out over a decade ago?!?!
Been here almost 20 years

>>288136055What happened to Shana? It used to be pretty popular but no one talks about it anymore.
>>288139632it ended
>>288139664Code Geass ended too and people still talk about it
Love Hina
>>288139632The Shana-schizo stopped posting this year. Unfortunately, we're stuck with DBM and his "new Mai Hime anime next year" posting.
>>288140215Wasn't that popular even before /a/?
>>288134592Full Metal Alchemist 2003
>>288139632Was never good, but season 3 in particular was horrible.
>>288134592Boku no Pico.
>>288143143I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did, especially the one with Chico x Coco.
>>288134592i didnt stick around until way later but i remember desu getting spammed relentlessly firs time i visited

>>288134592I think it was Lucky Star
>>288134592I moved here from a different board so Bocchi the Rock was all over the board which ironically got me to watch Hitori Bocchi.
>>288134592Kannagi was the thing when I started lurking.
I never used /a/ until recently, but Haruhi was in its 2006 prime when I started going on message boards.>>288138180It's inferior to Flame of Recca lmao. I remember reading that 20 years ago too.

>>288134592I watched DB/DBZ and Sailor Moon on Fox Kids back in the dayBut what got me super into anime was my friend showed me AMV Hell and z0rSo my major anime consumption started with Haruhi, Lucky Star, Death Note, Azumanga Daioh and so on
>>288134592Code Geass, Lucky Star, K-on
>>288143940that shit went on for YEARSpre-captcha era
>>288134592I wasn't super into watching fan subs back in 2004. I really started watching fansubs with /a/ with Haruhi.
>>288152195>>288152198>>288152242>>288153266Notice how most of these screencaps never predate the Internet Hate Machine boom.In all of these nostalgia-bait threads, I have probably seen a few screencaps from 2003/2004.
>>288160167No original fags remain. Everyone is a newfag at best.
>>288160167I can do you some 2005 screencaps. I've been lurking since 2004 somehow.

>>288134606I started lurking a little before the anime started airing and I'm a newfag, newfaggotry goes by cutoff years and 07 is the last year that could be considered oldfag status. and anyone who started coming to this site after moot sold it off to turn it into the shithole it is today is just irredeemable newcancer
>>288164690I was here for moot.
>>288136136This
>>288164762I can kinda get why oldfags were bitching about the decline of the site at the turn of the '10s but I still have fond memories of the site from around then, shame what's been happening ever since the sale. It's bumming me out to think about how the site and the Internet as a whole are just never gonna go back to how much more fun and less shitty they used to be
>>288164690>07 is the cutoffAbsolutely wrong. 2005 should be the cut off date. That was the year we saw the first surge of newfags coming in because of Moot's advertising campaign.
>>288164340>france rulesoh my fucking god i think that may have been my dad, i vividly remember him posting on here when i was a lil' baby (i'm from 2005)
>>288154009>chobitsthe High school i currently go to for my BTS (superior education, whatever) has like some old ass manga books, especially chobitsshould i just steal some of them when i can? i'm on my last year, might be worth it
>>288164975>but I still have fond memories of the site from around thenAnd so do young people that get on 4chan after the sale and even nowadays. It's a matter of perspective. Change is unavoidable and time marches on. The world has always been rife with problems. It's probably best to get off this poisonous sense of nostalgia for your own benefit.I ain't saying you should just laid down and take it, but to presume it's fucking over and done for is just foolish.
>metashit phoneposter thread
>>288137788Same, started lurking back in 2010-ish when i was 5. god bless my autism because i literally forced myself to understand englishi only seriously begun to post around the first MHA threads

>>288165506i'm 20 now, turning 21 in a monthi've been stuck here for the majority of my fucking lifeah well, it is what it is
>>288165573I mean there exists children in this world with unfiltered access to fucking TikTok and other endless scrolling garbage applications, so now that I think about it, growing up with 4chan might not be so bad. You're at the very least interacting with real people with real opinions (and training yourself to recognize shitposters) and not a fake, commercialized window into some psycho's life or literal people getting gored to death.
I will forever be chasing the intangible vibe of 2000s anime. Shit like Air Gear and Haruhi, just has a certain atmosphere to them I cant get enough of. Wish I could get more of that, should I just watch every show made from 2000 to 2009 or something?
>>288165670just broaden it up to late 90's up to early 10's (i'd say atleast before Kill la Kill released)
>>288143940This. /a/ was a desu maiden board
I ended up here because I was trying to find out why episode 4 of gurren lagan was so shit.Significant things Ive seen in my time here-The death of GARThe rise of MOEPeople loved Mai HimeGeass Sundays where when /a/ peaked/a/ hates Naruto, /a/ loves one piece, /a/ is tsundere for BleachEverything went to shit once Lucky Star airedWhat I watched- Princess Tutu- What I got-Guitar Ninjas!!!!!!!Manly anime reviewer- Ouran High school Host Club.Kill La Kill- I actually think this is the most universally respected animuA game of pretendMoot fucking about with Animu and Mango, Jibun Woooo, That crappy Asuka drawing. there was some bleach bullshit I don't recall.honestly /a/ is a shadow of its former self. There was so much original content way back when. Now its just coomers.Do any of you even like anime?
>>288134592Not really that popular but I remember everyone shitting on the masterpiece that was Kampfer.
>>288165266I suppose to a certain extent it's a matter of perspective but the decline from the sale just feels magnitudes worse than any downturn that came before. But I'm still here anyway and keep finding little corners that aren't as irradiated with cancer so I guess I haven't fully presumed it's all over. There's something about the anonymous posting here that I've always preferred over sites with user accounts and heavy moderation and all the baggage that comes with that, despite all the cancer here I still find myself coming back and finding things to enjoy. >>288165206What was that like? didn't start lurkan til a few years after that
>>288165706what would you consider the paragram shift that caused animu to go dogshit? like what caused its popularity among normies? SAO?
>>288165734yeah, sameand nevar forget we're here forever

>>288165880Yeah, no really. had unrestricted access to a computer at age 3
>>288165773Lucky Star the intro was released a couple of week before the anime aired and /a/ changed significantly. these days isekai overwhelms everything but back then suddenly everything was overwhelmed by cute girls doing cute things and plot went out the window.

>>288165356I would doubt this would happen if the same thing didn't happen to me in 2005 when I was four looking up kimba the white lion on ask jeeves>>288165663*you were interacting with real people
>>288167534I'm real.
What I remember most about my first times on /a/, and /b/, is Azumanga Daioh everywhere. At the time I had no idea who the girls were or what it was from, cause my only exposure to anime at that point was Toonami / Adult Swim. This would've been 2004, when I first started coming to 4chan.I didn't really start using /a/ until after I'd been drawn into the anime fansub scene by my high school anime club, in 2005. So I basically arrived on /a/ just in time for the unmitigated clusterfuck that was 2006's anime lineup.
>>288165978You have no fucking clue what you're talking about.
>>288165934Me too but i wasnt posting on imageboards at age 5 i was playing cartoon network flash games and counter-strike 1.6
>>288165706>Do any of you even like anime?I only like animé from the 20th century.
I posted no aiko in the magipoka threads 20 years ago
kek la meme
Zoomers can't comprehend that I watched this show and enjoyed it.
Why do you still come to here after so many years? my activity just goes down every year... sometimes its a bit of a chore to keep up with /a/ especially since getting older anime just gets lamer and the state of anime is really sad, barely anything new and bold gets made
>>288170716I don't know anymore
>>288134592Color Wars and Amagami which was Color Wars 2
>>288166569This, however chinks atleast have their own version of the internet and don't really venture out often. Jeets on the other hand...
>>288139632It went the way of ALL of seasonal fad anime.
>>288170716Some people just don't like the way how sites like Instagram, Twitter or TikTok work. 4chan isn't based around algorithms and the users are anonymous so people feel more comfortable in posting whatever they want.
>>288172496It's one of the few places you can talk about anime and act like a pervert. If I talk about sexualizing anime girls in most places I get banned. That's unfortunate. I used to post on gamefaqs anime in 2006. I remember dudes openingly asking why Shinji didn't bang Asuka in EoE.
>>288172516>I remember dudes openingly asking why Shinji didn't bang Asuka in EoE.
>>288172516What surprises me is why are anonymous forums so dead these days despite a lot of people being dissatisfied with how modern social media work.
>>288172948because forums dont pay you to whore and ragebait to make them ad money. forums to be active need either legitimate users and supporters or scammers/bots

>>288134592I'm autistic as fuck so I actually took the lurk before you post to heart, so I was lurking on the late 00s and I actually started to post around 2012/3, I think the first anime I actually live watched while posting on the threads was GJ-bu.
Why do retards constantly pretend they're oldfags? The cutoff is 2006, everything after that is no longer oldfag status. Doesn't matter how long you've been here. For that matter, why would you want to be an oldfag? The only people that are still here that are oldfags are people that have nothing else in their lives and I mean NOTHING else.
>>288170716I think anonymity is neat, also being able to call people slurs is a plus, but the captcha gets worse every year and I pretty much recognize the same posters on different threads so yeah.
>>288170716/a/'s activity as a whole has plummeted. It's mostly just retards at this point.
>t. Millennial born in 1993/94The real cut off date is 2005.If you weren't a Something Awful refugee who was here for the first year, you are not an oldfag.
>>288181099No, those are called goons, not oldfags.
>>288181099I mean, I'm 1991 but I'm not an oldfag by virtue of not watching anime or reading manga until college and not going to /a/ until like, the 2020s. Age has nothing to do with it.
>>288181148You are a fucking retard.
>>288181148What a stupid post. You're old and dumb.
>>288181165>>288181174I just don't see the point of referencing your age in this context. It doesn't matter. Just saying you were here in 2004 or 2005 is enough. No one cares how old you are.
>>288181254You are the only person putting age into the discussion because you are a retard. It's about the date people began browsing.
>>288181279See >t. Millennial born in 1993/94 in >>288181099
>>288181295The only relevance that anon (who is also a retard) is saying that for is because he wants to believe only a millennial would claim 2006 or later is the oldfag cutoff date so they can be included. TL;DR you're both mouthbreathing retards.
>>288170716I like seeing anime girls.
I started in 2026
>>288181336Acceptable. I only brought it up because he did. But yeah, no one actually cares about who was here chitchatting with moot about which girl from You're Under Arrest is the best.

That was 2007ish, so Haruhi Suzumiya was fucking everywhere. I also distinctly remember fags refusing to shut the fuck up about K-On!, but I feel like that was a couple of years later. Oh, and Zero no Tsukaima. Louise was indescribably fucking popular back then. Whole lotta anons were copping bans for posting uncensored witch cunny. I also got called a retard for looking Fairy Tail, and now it's /a/'s favorite battle shōnen. Good times. I still love you faggots.
>>288170125I introduced my zoomer nephew to Oreimo. It's now one of his favorite anime of all time. I really don't like imagining how many times he's definitely beat his meat to Kuroneko, though.
Some anime called Dragonball Z. You probably never heard of it
>>288165210this has to be bait, I refuse to believe there are parents pathetic enough out there to use 4chan in front of their kids
>>288187126i use 4chan in front of my little siblings
>>288187177that's different, older siblings being mentally retarded is an expected and universal experience.

>>288170716I found this site back around Christmas of 2008. It's the last place where genuine humanity can be found outside of a few "walled garden" sites that are refuges for higher thinking.
