it's like reading a VN if you read the manga along with the episodes each week. the lines are pulled directly. I seriously love this type of adaptation. vanitas, orb, this- they all do it, and do it very well.

He's got some crazy facial hair for a Japanese.

Which is odd, for the Japanese. But he stands out because that's a full beard. Are we supposed to assume these Japanese are really mixed compared to what we know today or something (considering the dark skinned feller), or is it just "author has a fetish for facial hair"?
>>
>>288154659

not really anon. there are more full bearded (and goateed) guys than you expect. have you ever been to japan at least recently? the stigma against facial is declining and more guys grow beards

I saw plenty of men with beards. clean shaven is the norm yes, but it's not as stigmatized as it used to be 5-10 years ago. I usually go down south + tokyo. I haven't been to Hokkaido in around 2 years so i can't say much there.

>>
>>288154402
It’s Sengoku-era fanfiction Japan, not your salaryman at Shinjuku Station. Half the cast looks like they crawled out of a Kurosawa film after living in the mountains for 10 years.

Also stress + war + zero grooming standards = everyone turns into a bearded hermit. Author clearly just likes his men rugged and miserable. Can’t blame him desu.

Hey everyone, I fixed up the timeline that I created last week, so it reads better and isn't as wordy - I'll reach back into the archive for last week's thread so that you can compare formats:

>Yamato 0: Empire of Yamato Established
>Yamato 9/Seiki 0: ???, Seiki breaks off and forms their own country, Seii
>Yamato 37/Seiki 28: Younger sister of Denki Taira is made empress to Fuji II, Denki Taira appointed to Lord of Home Affairs, Fuji II murdered by Denki Taira via poison

>[Mentioned in Episode 1] Yamato ???/Seiki ???: Both of Misumi Aoteru’s parents die, gets adopted by Nobuhito Higashimachi
>Yamato 48/Seiki 39: War breaks out between Yamato and Seii, resulting in the death of Byakko Wajima
>Yamato 56/Seiki 47, Winter: Saki Higashimachi (age 16) and Misumi Aoteru (age 15) get married, deaths of Nobuhito Higashimachi and Saki Higashimachi

>Yamato 57/Seiki 48, Spring:
• After the death of Saki Higashimachi, Misumi Aoteru heads to Osaka.
• Mitsuhide Ryumon of Yamato leads a small force to take out General Hiromasa Shimada in the battle of Nagashino.
• Misumi Aoteru arrives in Osaka and meets Yoshitsune Asama (age 17), both passing the Toryumon
>Yamato 59/Seiki 50, Winter:
• Denki Taira announces at the Imperial Council that he has called for the unconditional surrender of Seii. Grand Commander Hanada, Grand Archivist Nakamoto, and a number of others are executed by soldiers under the command of Denki Taira for insulting him.
>>
>>288155834

>Yamato 60/Seiki 51, Late Winter: Yoshitsune Asama (age 20) is appointed Deputy Master of Arms. Misumi Aoteru (age 18) is appointed Auditor of the Borderland General Corps.
>Yamato 60/Seiki 51, Early Spring:
• At 2:23pm, Misumi Aoteru oversees the hanging of Deputy Clerk Machiyama for robbery resulting in three murders and one sexual assault.
• At 9:00pm, in the Seii capital of Seiro, Ohga Wajima, daughter of Byakko Wajima and Western Expedition Commander, initiated the Seii Coup due to the current government’s acceptance of the unconditional surrender from Yamato.
• At 12:00am, the Seiro Eighth Armory is raided by the anti-surrender faction and Master of Arms Rinririn Sato (pro-surrender), along with two others, are killed by Muuton Nagao.
• At 12:12am: Reports arrive to the Kura Squad that the Kuro Squad has procured weapons for the coup to Aterui Kura.
• At 12:25am, Seiro’s Governor’s Residence: Governor of Seiro, Hikabi Asahima, and one soldier are killed by Kura and his men.
• Other casualties of the Pro-Surrender Faction: Fire Chief Saito Ahara (age 52), Police Chief Masatake Sasaki (age 57), Construction Governor-General Kobayashi Horori (age 46), Finance Governor-General Shinokō Shikimudo (age 69). The coup results in 5 dead and 14 wounded.
• President Haruichi Azami (age 62) is beheaded by the anti-surrender faction.
• At 11:18am, Ohga Wajima issues a proclamation detailing the establishment of the new government.
• At 12pm, Ohga declares herself commander-in-chief of the new administration.
• One month later, the westward expansion of Seii begins.
>>
>>288155889
>Yamato 60/Seiki 51, Spring:
• Yamato Secret Officer Shinzo Haranishi arrives in Osaka to report on the coup in Seii. During an audience with Mitsuhide Ryumon, Emperor Fuji III, and Denki Taira, Tonotsugu Taira enters and reports that Governor Muuton Nagao of Kaga Province wishes to defect to Yamato. To support this effort, the emperor orders the deployment of 35,000 troops: 30,000 led by Tonotsugu, the remainder led by Mitsuhide Ryumon.
• At 11:05am, Aoteru and Yoshitsune hear the news of the troop deployment.
• At 12:00pm, it is announced that Right Lieutenant General Sugoh and Left Lieutenant General Nagamine have left with Tonotsugu and the 30,000 troops. Clerk Kinta Moriyama suggests that the Borderland Corps allies with Seii to take down Denki Taira. For inciting others to defect and undermining morale, he is sentenced to exile for three years.
>>
>>288155918
>Yamato 60/Seiki 51, Spring:
• Tonotsugu Taira’s unit has entered Kaga, while at Kanazawa Castle, Assistant Supervisor of Seii Negotiations Basashi Hatta and Deputy Archivist Junichi Tamaki of Yamato watch Muuton Nagao get flogged due to unfounded rumors.
• Two hours later, at the Tedori River, a soldier reports that there are no signs of ambush. Returning from Kanazawa Castle, Junichi Tamaki reports that there will be a banquet held at the castle this evening.
• At 11:20pm at Komatsu Airport in Komatsu Ward, Ryumon receives word that Tonotsugu Taira has already crossed the river into Kanazawa Castle. Sensing that this is a trap, Ryumon decides to fall back to Fukui.
• At the same time, back at Yoshitsune’s residence, Misumi realizes that due to the recent upheaval in Seii, they would not want to fight on their territory and that there’s a possibility that Seii may invade Yamato via the Fukui District in Okuetsu Prefecture. Because of Seii military reforms, the previously dangerous Hakusan area has been repaired, allowing easy access to Yamato through the Tani Tunnel.
• Seii sets fire to several villages in Yamato, arriving at Kuzuryu Castle. Deputy Castellan Hina Hiraizumi and Castellan Yoshinaga assess the situation: 2,000 soldiers against roughly 40,000 soldiers on the Seii side. Not wanting to call for reinforcements due to being under the purview of Denki Taira, they receive word that Ryumon is on his way to Fukui and need only to hold out until evening.
• As evening approaches, Aterui Kura reports to the survivors in the castle that other Seii forces under the command of Ohga Wajima have moved on Katsuyama and Ono Castles. He gives an ultimatum: provide the head of the castellan and everyone else will live. The Yamato forces refuse and fight against Aterui Kura and his forces.

Also, what incredible hubris to use the exact same strategy against the exact same person that your father was defeated by. I'll be surprised if she wins despite all of this.
>>
>>288157266
I'll just post a page from vol.1, sorry for the small page right but it's like this. Each volume gives information different about different parts. Vol. 1 is prehistory, there is always relationship flow charts, information on important character plot points, vol 5 goes for a timeline again.

The small page is fine, seems like there's more worldbuilding than I thought.

Yeah, I half-expected him to do more compared to how he was introduced, but this works out also. I think he was shot through the letter he got from Ohga.

>Yamato 60/Seiki 51, Spring:
• The following morning, at Kuzuryu Castle, it is reported by Seii Chief Strategist Yayakichi Hei that the capture of Kuzuryu Castle is complete, but heavy losses were suffered and Aterui Kura is injured. In addition, both Katsuyama Castle and Ono Castle have been taken. Okuetsu has been taken over by Seii.
• Concerned that Ryumon has turned back, Muuton Nagao decides to take out Left General Sugoh that evening, since the Self-Injury Stratagem has failed.
• That evening, Yamato guards are killed, along with Junichi Tamaki. Tonotsugu Taira comes to the aid of General Sugoh. While attempting escape, Sugoh is shot by Muuton Nagao, but gets rescued by Left Lieutenant General Shiryo Nagamine, killing Muuton Nagao and wiping out the Seii forces in Kanazawa Castle. 194 Yamato soldiers were killed in action.
• Five days later, in the capital, protests break out over the war in Osaka.

She's dead Jim. Glasses girl and Sato were the only generals stationed at the castle and as so are the only two wearing blazers. Theres a lingering shot as Wajima walks through the aftermath of the battle of someone wearing a blazer dead on the ground. Since Sato's head is in the box as proof of conquest the body on the battlefield is most likely her. I'm actually glad they're killing characters that seemed like they were going to do something of note in the OP makes things feel more real anyone could get it next. I thought the black dude Tama was just going to come away with a cool new scar but no they just killed him.

Is the subtitles fucking up whenever a name comes on screen erai-raws' bot fucking up the typesetting or just amazon's incompetence?
>>
>>288165612
They don't understand the show isn't fujobait but the female equivalent of waifubait
>>
>>288165826
Amazon doesn't give a shit about anime typesetting and puts signs in the same place as dialogue. So the text for a sign will shown for a few seconds while a character talks and then switch over to the subtitle. Basically they use ancient subtitle standards that don't work for anime but they don't care since anime is just a small part of their streaming library.
>>
>>288166114
If you learn hiragana this is a non issue
>>
>>288166195
Well no because the subs for the name usually interrupt the spoken dialogue subs so you have to go back and pause to catch what they were saying.

Yes some elements are pretty dumb if you start to think about them, the concept of telecommunication is fairly easy to understand and execute, even if they wiped this knowledge for some reason it wouldn't mean that literally everyone forgot about it, at least the higher ranks should have the means to use and control it.
>>

I dunno, outside of the to 1% of people the author seems to be wanting a majority of the people in this post apocalypse Japan as genuine mouth breathing idiots.
There are a few other questions I have, like where are the tobacco plantations they'd need to maintain they absurd smoking rate, like seriously Ryumon is going through like 6 cigars in one sesh and he isn't even fully smoking them.

>not-mongoloid features
are we doing 19th century skull calipers on anime characters now?

It’s a stylized design in a post-collapse setting, not a National Geographic photoshoot. The line in the episode was about lineage/politics, not “race science.” The author clearly just wants a vaguely mixed future where borders melted and bloodlines got messy. Trying to map modern ethnic categories onto big-eyed cartoon people is peak schizo behavior.
