Anime with it lip flaps was basically design for dubbing and you could argue the JP version technically a dub since the voices come after animation not before. Anime sounds like anime though no matter what most the time.

I recently revisited a childhood favorite of mine, in both ENG and JP, and I have to say the seiyuu knocked it out of the park and were consistent. The English dubs were entertaining for at least 50-75% of the time, but towards the end had me a little more disinterested than I'd wished to be. They were entertaining in a non-serious way, with inconsistent accents and delivery. By comparison, the seiyuu sold the characters and atmosphere for the duration of the story with unwavering discipline.There CAN be entertaining English dubs, but they are *all* hammy. This can work, but it is not to say that ENG dubs could ever be considered superior to the original product, unless the original product was so incomprehensibly shit, perhaps intentionally, that it would take nearly zero effort to produce something better. They are at best a fun time, and that's okay, but they are in no way superior.
