I kinda get why Koichi did it. Sayuri's persona felt kinda suffocating, not kind of a woman you'd feel passion. You don't fall in love with a professional tard wrangler. Akari was her opposite, easy to see why he was mesmerized. Koichi's a retarded fuckwit and all but the way he admires and pursues that which is special, despite being an average guy of utterly mediocre talents, makes his fuckups feel understandable, even relatable. Like, cheating on Sayuri was certainly reprehensible, but hot damn Akari was charismatic (and hot) as fuck. Who here can honestly say they wouldn't have done the same if they were him?There's something really unique about the writing in this show. Every character struggles with their flaws and insecurities in ways you don't often see in other works, and despite the narrative perhaps seeming melodramatic or over the top at times, the central theme of admiration of talent and the idealization of dreams doesn't adhere to the usual genre tropes typical of "I want to be a top artist / athlete / x" stories.
