I'll never get this stance. Like it's a spear thrusting one sure but your other hand isn't actually doing anything and the reason why one uses spears, range, isn't even relevant here. I swear Sandro just read about Musashi and wanted his own take.

i can see the logic with the idea that you're probably able to more elegantly move your body if you can "visualize" the movement, but the only way that makes sense would be if yumi was a lifelong weapons master who is just now trying to develop hand to hand proficiency (which he isn't)

this makes zero sense. You only lose when 100% of your body is out of the ring, nothing stops him from moving the same way. If you read this exactly as its presented and w/ the visual in these bottom 2 panels, Yumigahama should be dominating this fight for the entire duration.
>>
>>288208979
FUARK

No? He can keep swinging as wildly as he wants as long as one part of him dominates the light area.

It literally isn't, Monke is used to fighting under purg rules he should be a natural with them.
The ACTUAL reason would be that he's got seething tunnel vision on the twink.
>>
>>
>>
>>288209164
This page is absolutely adorable. I can actually picture the inner conversation of Sandwich's mind realizing (let's be honest, mostly reading online comments) that "just" being a turncoat doesn't really warrant that level of unhinged hostility and asspulling a random dead bodyguard in his backstory to be sure you would realize Yumi is a dastardly villain you should hate. Vibe writing at its finest.
>>
>>
>>288209156
Rolón is not a team player
>>
>>288209242
>>288209244
But the way it's addressed makes no sense either. Why is there a psychological wall? Yumi heard the rules, and the graphic of the katana vs. smaller concealed blades indoors doesn't help either. This is just stupid, could Sandro not have found a better way to say "he's seeing red"
>>
>>
>>288209123
>this page makes it seem like the Purg gladiators are ASTONISHED that an A-lister can be beaten so badly, and yet only a few chapters later we learn that Yumi had suffered a lot of official losses as an A-lister this was public knowledge. Even Misasa knew about it. So Yumi is not exactly an unbeatable fighter. Yet this manga panel is trying to make it seem like an A-lister losing like this is unprecedented. God, Sandro just makes shit up as he goes along. It's so sad to see.

Carefully contemplate the consternation caused by coping over the cruel conundrum that caught our capricious chimpanzee. Surely a shame, our selfless simian was stopped short in his springtime, sentenced to be scarred for switching sides. Serving, selling, to supply scant but his sister's safety. A martyr mired midst malignant magnates, a hellacious hero heralding the hopeless, heartless hereafter of Omega. Goodbye, Yumigahama.

Vibes-based writing is indeed an apt way of putting it. I despise how much the man's insecurity translates to this sort of writing. He is lazy and unwilling to plan much ahead. Yet he probably spends more time sifting through online forums than actually doing any sort of planning. Then he proceeds to carry out lame damage control as a way to stay one step ahead of his readers.
And that's another thing: The man is always at war with his readers. Not just through his lame attempts at "subverting expectations", but also by patching up holes in his narratives to always make it seem like he's thought ahead of us and that these holes weren't actually holes at all.

its kinda telling that sandro seems to think that the stoic ohma clones that populate the later moments of the manga are what peak strength looks like, he's got no actual storytelling ideas so he can only fall back on his own shallow aesthetic preferences, any conflict or character flaws are either exclusively for villians or something to be paved over after a character's introduction to showcase their "growth"

I'm so glad Sandro has been so consistent in his depictions of size and weight and its advantages.

>Yumi vs Misasa
>WITH A FUCKING 80KG WEIGHT GAP, THE WEIGHT OF AN ENTIRE AVERAGE FIGHTER, Misasa has absolutely no issue utterly pulverizing Yumi through the whole match, as Yumi's strikes fail to do literally anything, unable to even overpower Misasa's guard when he lands straight on shots like >>288209243

Every time I read one of these character bios, I feel like punching Sandro in the face. He comes off as incredibly insufferable and arrogant.
The worst part is that he can't even 100% commit to doing damage control. His urges to vaguepost and not commit to anything so that he can slither away in ambiguity are stronger than his desire to damage control, as is evidenced by:

This was the breaking point for me.
Everyone who has "scaled the wall" knows you can only drop Omega for a week until you're reading it again like a junkie fiending for their next hit but this was the point for me where I knew we were reading trash.
Chapter 50 was the body blow and this was the uppercut that followed.
Tigerbowl, lolongs fight and then the "tragedy" in quick succession sealed the deal but I really liked Yumi as an antagonist because he wasn't evil he was just an asshole so this was when I stopped reading it for the story and continued purely to take part in the threads.

And despite what happened in the chapters that ensued (specifically, Koga's brief NTR arc in the hospital), most of Keng/a/n still didn't care and were hyped for the tournament.
Never mind that the Gaolang-Medel fight was a bad way of starting the tournament. They still held hope.
Never mind that the Rihito-Falcon fight was also bad because of Falcon's extremely weak victory that wasn't by a show of genuine dominance and strength. Purgatory was still a joke at this point. Never mind that. The fanboys still held hope.
Never mind that the Julius-Toa fight was just a boring mirror match that Sandro desperately tried to spice up with the whole "IS TOA A WOOOOORM" mystery box that was immediately resolved at the end of the fight. And that Toa just screamed GIGAJOBBER throughout the fight. No, they still held hope.
But the Misasa-Yumi fight? This was when their resolve to defend this manga cracked for a significant chunk of bootlickers.

Is Toa getting sued by Ohma for copyright violation? Is that why Toa can no longer use Maungamanawa and is just reduced to a grappler hundreds of chapters later?
During about half of this match, Yumigahama was explicitly using weapon techniques in such a way they functioned barehanded. That's explicitly TRANSFORMATIVE in nature. Every single technique was unified as part of his own distinct style of combat. That's ALSO transformative.

One of the few fights, even through the rest of this arc, where there is just genuinely nothing nice to say about it. Utterly miserable fight.
Back in the day, I was already cynical after chapter 50, but this is where I realized "oh, so we're not even going to have good fights anymore, huh?" It was the breaking point for a decent amount of people I think, especially post-50 copers. Though there were still plenty of Sandro defense force members still claiming that this totally wasn't bad or unsatisfying or a betrayal of expectations.
>Would you say it's even top 5 compared to everything that followed?
Top five? Absolutely. It might have lost its spot in the top three to Willem's humiliation ritual, but this is definitely still up there.

2. Julius vs Toa
3. Carlos vs Gaolang

Sandro claims he doesn't want every strong fighter to be stoic (ha ha okay bud) so he could have subverted the usual "cool hero walks away from the defeated villain" shot by cutting to the scoreboard showing Yumi won. Misasa was so focused on crippling Yumi and aura farming as he walks away he forgot that technically Yumi is still in the light and he isn't. Another victory under purgatory rules.
I don't know why I'm fantasy writing a better ending to a fight that finished like four years ago like if I come up with a good enough alternative the god of time will change it, omega just lives rent free I guess.

I like to imagine Yumi really got along with some of his masters. Like one of them was a hardass and Yumi slowly won his favor by cooking him food and driving him places and taking care of him when he's sick. Eventually the master introduces Yumi to his daughter and they hit it off really well. Yumi soon proposes to her and she says yes. On the day of wedding, the master talks about how happy Yumi has made him and as a thank you, he turns over his dojo and all the documentation on his martial art to Yumi. The split second Yumi gets the papers he starts laughing maniacally and shoves middle fingers into his master and bride's faces. He runs out the door to find his next master.

See? This shit would've been better.
But even then, the techniques aren't the main focus here. This is just Yumigahama gunning for the rights to the dojo and leading the master (and the master's relatives) on for the sake of being an ass, rather than just learning his techniques and fucking off, which is a perfectly fair thing to do when you're an underground fighter putting your life on the line for your CEO.
Sandro could've just said "Yumigahama betrayed the people who taught him martial arts, at a time when they needed him most" instead of explicitly using the phrase "steal techniques" as if that is even a coherent concept.

You see, in the flashback to a different style at the start of the chapter, your muscles had to move in tandem to recreate the power of a sword (To crush rocks, of course, which is a sword thing to do) thus you cannot recreate a spear with just one hand.

It's really interesting to speculate how much of the writing you see in any given modern work (for any author, not just Sandro) is actually the author's vision and how much of that work is just compensating or damage control due to the actions/reactions of fans/readers.
After all, we live in a world where everyone has internet and where writers always have the means to immediately see what readers/fans think of what they've written.
It's literally just one click away.
No matter how much a writer tells people via interviews that he doesn't bother with reading comments from his readers, there is no doubt that the temptation to do so is always on his mind due to how ridiculously easy it would be for him to take a quick glance at forums. And I also have no doubts as well that writers, who are oftentimes very sensitive and/or insecure, want validation from their readers, so with reader feedback being so easily accessible, the possibility of writers doing things in response to their readers (instead of their original vision) is higher than ever these days.

I think Sandro misunderstanding of Yumi's appeal is on full display in that fight. He is aware Yumi has an unusually large a fanbase for a jobber but doesn't seem to know WHY people like him. He seems to believe fans enjoyed hating him and watching him fail, classic hate sink loser type character. The actual truth is most of Yumi's fans recognize he's just an asshole but not really a bad guy in the grand scheme of things and sympathize with how poorly the narrative has treated him. So when he brings Yumi back in a pathetic fashion and has Koga beat on him he's trying to appeal to who he THINKS Yumi's fanbase is, not who they actually are.

Sandro couldn't even let Metsudo lose the tournament without stating it was part of his plan all along, or even let Hayami get one over on Metsudo by making it so Metsudo knew about Hayami's plans all along.
I understand why people cope about Sandro's writing by insinuating that Sandro meant to focus on Yumigahama's betrayal (when later additions make it clear that Sandro is focusing on "stealing techniques"), but the premise falls apart when you realise what that requires.
If Sandro actually had to write this, he would write that every single dojo knew what Yumi was doing all along Metsudo-style, and just gave their techniques to him out of charity/a greater scheme.

I remember after KvP I was huffing industrial strength copium that Yumi would be back and this time he'd be strong because Metsudo acknowledged he had potential and Yumi's bio said he was lazy so naturally he'd come back after training hard and showing us how dangerous he could be if he fulfilled his potential.
By the time he re-appeared I wanted him to stay gone. I saw what happened to Lu Tian, I saw what happened to Xia and I didn't want to see what would happen to my boy. As far I was concerned he could stay in the shadow realm and I could headcanon that he was too busy working to pay his sister's medical bills to show up again.

I'd say it contains just about all of Sandro's worst writing habits in regard to antags/villains.
>Villain/antag is constantly being dragged/humiliated, little to no solid on-screen showcasing to really make readers either dislike them or fear for the 'good' guys.
>The constant re-writing of everything surrounding them ultimately making the villain/antag look worse/weaker and therefore makes their eventual defeat even less satisfying, or leaving the 'good' guys looking worse (Can Metsudo PLEASE just die)
>The start and probably most prominent example of Omega's morality basically becoming pic related

>>288211017
He probably came to hanafusa and he intentionally fucked up his face even more for being so evil
>>
>>288211764
Ramon somehow one-up Carlos in changing his personality every chapter. Imagine a murderhobo who signed up for the fucking JDF to fight more posturing about "evil"
>>
>>288209841
There's a whole fight that is genuinely accepted as one of if not the best fight in the whole tournament and
Lolong intervenes, completely ruining the whole vibe and cutting the match short, all so Sandro can convince you he's totally strong
It killed the enthusiasm a lot of bootlickers had for post-CH50 Omega. I remember we still had a lot of zealots (especially Raianfags who were still waiting for their pretty little snowflake princess to kick ass), but a significant chunk of the bootlickers got completely demoralized by how the fight turned out. It was enough to kill off coinsposting for the rest of the tournament.

Newfag here. I can see why people were upset at the more innocuous Carlos fight when it came to the weaker dude getting his shit rocked by a bigger fighter. I still think the meat of that one is solid, but this definitely is the weakest fight so far. The reader has no connection to Missa; his strength isn't explained at all, and it really should've been Agito beating the shit out of Yumihaga so brutally.
>>
>>288212953
Agito left easily enough
>>
>>288212982
Monke should have Beat Misasa to use it as fuel for the Monkey vs Agito match
>>
>>288210863
No. Daro hating drawing him is true, but there's literally nothing suggesting Daro could have forced Sandro to do something like that.
Yumi's treatment is perfectly in line with every other built up antagonist, and with other examples of Sandro's psychotic morality when it comes to "mean" characters who aren't part of the chungus association.
>>
>>288210024
Raian's fight is more comical because of what Sandro thinks is cool and edgy. We spend chapters building up Yumi just to watch him get raped, Alan just gets told to pipe down and shut up whenever he opens his mouth and then gets ripped in half mouth first and then Eddie and the other Wu Hei's shittalk about him
>>
>>288212982
The problem with Carlos's fight goes beyond that. It also served as a terrible first fight because it failed to show Purgatory as any kind of a serious threat due to them needing to rely on a technicality to actually win. It wasn't helped by the next fight (Hayabusa/Falcon) also failing to show Purg as a threat. Julius wasn't in much trouble either. And now we have arrived at this fight, the biggest joke of all the 4 first fights. So when are we getting a fight that truly shows Purgatory to be a threat? The answer is (don't hover over this next spoiler if you're still "green"): NEVER

Naidan is this until he decides he's had a long enough life. R9 with Akoya vs. Nicolas feels like the first real fight where both fighters could kill the other and of course it isn't allowed to conclude naturally.
>>
>>288213116
Naidan did look strong and was goading Ryuki to kill him. Jurota's moveset was kinda retarded but the narrative pointed out that Masaki abused purg rules a fair amount to pull off the win

>Guy who's design is just Terashi but buff and with a face is hard to draw
Shut the fuck up Daro, no wonder he started using Ai

>>288213324
You see, Sandro was so appalled at the idea of Yumi landing a clean hit that he instructed Daro to not draw any blood coming off Misasa's face
Yumi punched him in the face from the look of it but it basically did 0 damage
>>
>>288212812
its a shame cuz, like a lot of the new omega characters that get utterly wasted, i like his design
>>
>>288213357
>>Guy who's design is just Terashi but buff and with a face is hard to draw
yeah but the face is the bit that's killing him, he clearly struggles a lot trying to show the hooked/bulbous nose in 3d space which is why his face randomly gets really sharp and chiseled in a completely different way whenever he's shown from any other angles that arent straight on
>>
>>288213399
I think if Daro wasn't also drawing a new twisted expression on his face 24/7 like he was following the Ren & Stimpy philosophy of "never draw the same face twice" this wouldn't have been as much of a problem

I think he's doing a stream about something completely unrelated at that moment. The NHK author streams his writing sometimes to like 2 viewers and I think I'd right tick him off asking retarded questions. Let alone in English about a volatile current manga as the artist.

On one hand, that makes more sense, but on the other hand, you really had to expect the outcome, surely.

I think even if you'd expect it, you would hope not. This is in his (said to be meagre) free time as well. I'd assume he'd also would've used to stream back before Omega/Ashura to less pressure.

Luohan manages to be an even greater fumble. All Sandro had to do was establish that he's the person supplying Tiger Niko with child soldiers, and also the person brainwashing the Worm mooks. How he managed to fuck that one up, I have no idea.
>>
>>288213354
Yumigahama already came across as an asshole who is unpleasant to be around. Sandro should've just accepted the pettiness of singling him out and leaned into it with things like Koga's grudge *cough* *cough*, instead of insisting on making Yumi evil.

No, it's a language barrier thing. Katana refers to swords in general, but they still have differing sizes. Nodachi is a longsword, Wakizashi is a shortsword, which samurai would typically carry as a sidearm specifically for close quarters.
