At every turn of his flashback you wonder why he doesn't just kick Kaido's shit in or call WB, and at every turn he humiliates himself with no significant compensation. Water 7 has Franky and Robin - main crew flashback again. Now, at last someone irrelevant- Noland the liar's flashback. It embodied the whole pirate/privateer era sailing romance/adventure (finding Eldorado themed) even if has nothing to do with the final arc so far. And like every other arc it was important to show why Luffy has to beat the villain. Similarly off track, Rocks whole arc is a exposition to start off the final arc but it equally embodies the period theme of pirates, epic. Orihime and Fisher Tiger and Koala and Boa flashbacks were vital depth to the worldbuilding. Ace, Sabo, Luffy flashback is the most main character's story. Punk Hazard was a different tone altogether and a setup arc.
