The only “power up” Yuji gets is at the very end when he unlocks Shrine, which was always going to happen, and even then he’s so inexperienced with it and it’s so underdeveloped that it doesn’t even do anything Sukuna is still fucking him up even in his domain Nobara and Megumi help him to finally win. Yuji is a good protagonist because he doesn’t get some gay asspull which is the only real reason he can move forward, he moves forward through sheer willpower and determination and never gives up even when his own weakness is shoved in his face over and over again.
