Is Steel Ball Run the greatest manga ever written?
No
>>288212468my hero
>>288212687lol god no
>>288212687desu My Hero kinda fell off after the genius baby was introducedBest episode was the one where the receptionist got powers and became a supervillain, followed by the scissors/paper/rock duel
>>288212468part 3 is really Araki's best workbut SBR is the culmination of his career.it was all downhill from there
>>288213057Part 3 was him still trying to figure out what stands were all about. Early stand fights feel clumsy, bland, and unimaginative. Very Monster of the Week. It’s only by the Egypt arc that he begins to have a grasp on things. I still like part 3, and the final battle between Jotaro and DIO is an incredibly iconic anime fight for a reason. But it was really just the beginning for Araki. Part 5 he had perfected stand fights, part 6 he was able to weave them in naturally with the overarching narrative
>>288212468If it's the only manga you've ever read then yes
>>288213236Name 5 better ones
>>288212468yes
>>288212468FUCK no, its not even the best part
>>288212468Berubara exists so no
>>288212468I enjoyed it so yes.
>>288213666Gyro was an excellent source of reaction images
>>288213671What’s your favourite part anon?
7 > 2 > 5 > 8 > 4 > 6 > 3 > 1Sorry if you don’t agree, but this is objectively correct
>>288213057Part 3 has a bunch of fights that drag assThe fights in Egypt are all really good but half the Tarot fights are just garbage
>>288212468noall 9 parts collectively may actually be though
>>288212468read a second manga
>>2882140315 or Hawaii
>>288212468
>>288212468I don't understand why new fans think SBR is well-written. It's a manga written by Araki. It has several inconsistencies, wasted characters, retcons, a rushed ending... it's acclaimed because it's JoJo (a fairly casual fanbase), a funny battle shonen, and the art is great. It's quite well written, but if you think it's the best, you either don't read or you're not very intelligent unironically. If you want a manga that stands out for its writing, you have HnK, Aria, Nana...
>>288214835>you're not very intelligent unironicallyTo be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand HnK
>>288212468it's the best jojo part and it's not even top 100 manga of all time
>>288212468currently reading it in color, the pace finally picks up after Dio
>>288214835>I don't understand why people who like Araki's writing like things written by Araki
>>288215170I’ve never really got the complaints with the early pacing. First stage is incredibly fast paced while focusing on the sprint. Then afterwards it appropriately slows down to establish the characters more in depth and explain the corpse/ devils palm
>>288215362the first one on the sprint yeah then it devolves into "what the hell is this ""ABILITY (red)"" GIRO"
>>288212468I don't get why it's considered well-written, other than every character being given backstory.Well-written is when a character has a valid reason to do what they want to achieve.
>>288215404>what the hell is this abilityYou’ve summarised all of Jojo
>>288215415>the president wanted the holy skeleton to MAKE AMERICA GREAT!!>soundman wanted to !!>diego wanted to...HAVE A BACKSTORY WRITTEN BY TEZUKA!!>hot pants wanted to DIE FOR NO REASON!!>johnny wanted to walk again TO HAVE SEX!!>gyro wanted to SAVE THE WEAKLING TODDLER!!>pocoloco WANTED TO WIN!!
>>288214835>I dont understand why they think it's well written>it's quite well writtenAnon is a well retard
>>288213397jojo pt 1-5
>>288213169>Early stand fights feel clumsy, bland, and unimaginative. Very Monster of the Week. You're describing Steel Ball Run right now. The stand battles are not good until Scary Monsters, and even then there are some stinkers like Chocolate Disco. Part 7 is very good, but part 3 is Araki's greatest work. There's a reason part 7 ends on The World and not Love Train.
>>288215608you need not be a president to influence napkin upon peopleit wasn't explained why he obsesses over napkin eitherand johnny obsesses over the stupid ball for some reason, is it to impress his father using the ball?
>>288215901I'm from england, anon
>>288212468No, not even close. Don't say stupid shit like that. It's the best Araki's written, but he's by no means near even a moderately high peak.
>>288212468Weird way to spell Golden Kamuy.
Whole lot of people saying no with a whole lot of people not naming better mangaSome Moe uwu garbage ain’t better than Araki sorry to say
>>288217248.>>288217242>>288214835There are four. Add Joe: not top5add yokohama, punpun, mushishi, yotsuba and sangatsu. not a top 10 manga. OP asked about the writing itself. if you consider Araki's art style and his average paneling, which makes his designs legible, as something remarkable enough to ignore the writing and thus make it the best manga, I deduce that you're a tasteless JoJo fan. that anon explained well enough some flaws, personally I think the characters are garbage to average, hot pants/sandman to johnny or mr.steel. its a good manga, though
>>288217248Nobody needs to waste their time throwing pearls before swine that think fucking shounenslop is "the best manga ever written".Christ, you actually used that as your argument?
>>288217677SBR is seinen not shonen
>>288217519>punpun>sangatsu
Araki will never forgive the dubfag meme spammers
>>288212468It's not even the best Jojo part
>>288218106Kekked>>288218118What is then?
>>288218150Stardust Crusaders of course
The thing that seperates Part 7 from the others in my mind is the quieter moments and the attention to the changing landscapes on the protagonist's continent-spanning journey. Other parts have characters going on their own journeys and visiting interesting locations, but SBR just takes it to another level. A lot of it has to do with it being zoned in on Johnny and Gyro and not a whole gang of protagonists, but I also think Araki just drew his best backgrounds for SBR. Each location really sets the mood for each fight, like that rainy city in the Catch the Rainbow arc, or that snowy forest in the Sugar Mountain arc. It's straight up beautiful at times.
>>288212468No. That's Akagi. The best work of Araki and his most influential has to be Part 3. Personally, I think Part 2 is the best JoJo had to offer.
>>288218425Based part 2 respecterThe insane tone of it combined with how lovable of an asshole Joseph is just make it so fun
>>288218374that is not writing
>>288218106Based ArakiEveryone should do the same
>>288218485Absolutely. Part 2 raised the stakes for the universe of JoJo. In part 1 most of the problems were derived from vampires (the stone mask, the menace of a vampire invasion, dio's ripper stingy eyes), you start part 2 and guess what? vampires were merely food for the pillar men, the stone mask? there's lots of stone masks near the pillars, the ripper attack? Joseph discovered a way to stop that attack.
>>288218525Obviously background art itself isn't writing, but Araki wrote the story as a journey across America to focus on Johnny and Gyro's relationship, and because he was obviously inspired by classic westerns and other pieces of American historical fiction, and he also chose a unique location for each fight that matched the mood he was going for. If SBR were a novel he would've still had the exact same locations in mind. So yes, the environments are an integral part of the writing.
Kagurabachi is better
>>288217248I honestly don't see any difference in writing quality when you compare part 7 with part 6
>>288218485Joseph being asshole ruins it for me.Anything lost its value when you don't respect it. Any stakes become comedy because Joseph disrespecting it.
>>288212468Great read until it shits the bed with an overpowered final boss who can manipulate time somehow and gets defeated in the most nonsensical way. Such has been the case of every Jojo since Diamonds.
>>288212468Read more, newtard
>>288222879>better cast>way way better fights>better pacing>better "adventure"
>>288222988>stakes become comedy because Joseph disrespecting itWhen, exactly? Joseph does not disrespect Stroheim's sacrifice, Caesar's death, Wamuu's death, or Lisa Lisa's life hanging in the balance. Hell he didn't even disrespect Caesar's Nazi friend that he knew for all of 5 minutes. Pretty much the only time he made a joke about the situation was the lady captured by Straizo, which was a tactic to try and get Straizo to think he gives 0 shits about some random woman.
>>288223055I said writingAraki planned part 6 (Pucci) more than he plan part 7 (Valentine)>way way better fightsif it helps you sleep at night
>>288223223when he fought Pillar men, or just any opponent really
>>288223223He disrespects the sacred treaty he made with Wamuu.
Not even the best arc in the series.
>>288212468nice setting, awful mc, great villainit could be really great if mc died half way through and Gyro became mc instead
>>288223283HUH! maybe you are not wrong...no, no I refuse to think, I'm a jojo fan.
>>288224323What is your problem with Johnny as a protagonist?
>>288224402I never had a moment with him when I was like - ok I understand this nigga. He never became cool and being cool is important for JoJo protag
>>288212468Not really, it's only the second best manga ever written, after Dorohedoro.
>>288223388How does making fun of the villains take away the stakes when his allies are still getting injured/killed? He takes their lives and their sacrifices seriously.
