I have yet to read this. Is it good? or just an Eva ripoff?
>>
>>288213451
It's depressing but good, and while both have angsty tenneagers and mechas i don't think is really all that similar to Eva.
>>
>>288213451
It’s pretty good and not an Eva ripoff the only similarity is different people not wanting to pilot it similar to Shinji but it isn’t every character.
>>
>>288213451
It was a pretty good mecha with a nice twist. At the beginning, group of kids find an alien dude at a beach who convinces them to board the robot and fight against aliens with it. The story reflects kids' worries and problems through the mecha fights, so in that sense, it might feel like Eva. But I think the several plot lines make it worth your read.

Read it a year ago, and it's one of my favourite manga
>>
>>288213451
an absolute masterpiece and the author's best work, which is saying a lot because he also wrote narutaru
>>
Consider me interested since people are positive posting. Is it a long series?
>>
>>288212747
I want an anime remake that’s faithful to the manga and not directed by a guy who hated the manga. But the theme song is iconic.
>>
>>288213451
it didn't click with me at all, but the overall quality was high so worth giving a chance.
>>
Uninstall, uninstaaaaaaaall

You seen the anime? Any major differences it’s worth picking up the manga for? it’s been on my list for a while but I’ve been waiting until I forget more of the anime.
>>
Why is everything this guy writes so intensely psychologically damaging?
>>
>>288214200
The anime is very different than the manga and not as good in my opinion.
>>
>>288213706
Playing the anime OP during the final battle when he decides to do *that* is the optimal reading experience
>>
>>288214200
the director hated the manga and the author had to fight his decision to revive all the dead characters at the end.
that and it having an anime original ending should be enough to stay away from it.

>>288213681
like 10 volumes. i read it in two days

Narutaru should get a full adaptation first....or maybe not. I guess I'm still traumatized from reading it decades ago. Just listening to the op fills me with crushing despair.

I will warn you that the ending is the author saying that the Epstein class should just get away with everything because 'you can't fight them because you'll be just like them'.
>>
>>288220312
It would be nice, too bad Kitoh always gets shitty unfinished adaptions of his stuff.

>shits on the manga you are adapting in several interviews

that isn't the ending, one of the arcs is a girl using Zearth to stomp her rapists to death and her parents going "thats not good she shouldve just called the authorities instead"
expecting the authorities to do anything is a bullshit notion but there's a gap between that and "the epstein class is good"
>>
>>288223605
What really matters is this: are the parents fully depicted as being 100% unquestionably correct in their belief?
>>
>>288223751
Yes.
>>
>>288223751
well at least one of the kids tries to stab the killer later and he's detained by the military, but eventually he's let off. my headcanon is that the wound got infected and he later died of a cold

It's dozens of chapters of fillers with some being downright awful. Overall nothing changes in the story and there are things that are not resolved or answered. I remember there were some chapters than went on long tangents about the mechanics of the world IE how teleportation works in the manga. Stuff that we didn't really need to know. I fucking love it to death, credit it for helping me discover more manga and the final chapters are still stuck in my mind fucking 14 years after I finished it. It is what it is.

The series has a Light Novel adaptation with a foreword from the mangaka who goes "It's always a bad thing when someone else adapts your work because some changes will make you scream "what the hell are you doing" and some will make you hit your head and go "Why didn't I think of that?" The translation is deader than Elvis but I do remember it started off strong and what changes it made are cool. Some kids who died early get called later on instead, the girl whose mom was a hooker is instead adopted by the family that adopted the tomboy (who isn't really mentioned) and there are some OCs. The first character to get called up was a girl in a wheelchair and it goes into detail how much damage she caused because she's figuratively learning how to walk again. Her arc ends with her standing ontop of Zearth and magically getting the ability to walk and then committing suicide IIRC over the damage she's caused. That lead to them learning how things work when the second pilot died.

that robot looks pretty sick, how is the anime?
>>
>>288212747
The only manga I've read I would call misery slop with a straight face.
>>
>>288226120
That sounds interesting. Any extra setting details? The manga just went with force of nature.

>>288226143
Yeah, it's good.
>>
>>288226154
nah that would be punpun
>>
>>288212747
Why didn't the nukes work?
>>
>>288226143
Not that I know of. Like I said, the translations stopped some years back with half of it untranslated.

>>288226143
From what I remember the first four episodes and the tomboy's arc were done better in the anime. The reveal worked better because in the manga it's just "ehhh yeah this is what's happening." but the anime humanized the enemy immensely, showing people make peace with their situation. Aside from that, pretty garbo.
>>
>>288226193
I think the sheer nihilistic misanthropy in this manga has it beat.
>>
>>288226266
Not even the most misanthropic Kitoh manga. Narutaru ends with "Total human death. We need a reboot." Meanwhile Bokurano went with "the world is flawed but worth fighting for." and some of the kids even had bittersweet ends. Asano also originally wanted Punpun to kill himself at the end of the manga by stepping in front of a train, which he later decided against as he views continuing to live is worse than any death for the character.
>>
>>288226266
>bokurano
>nihilistic
I have no absolutely no idea how someone could read the last couple of chapters starting from visiting the parents of all the kids and come away with the idea that it's nihilistic. The final battle is so horrifying specifically because you're faced with the reality of what the kids have been doing all this time, it's unironically a life affirming genocide
