Alright, it is Thursday and I am gonna post the seventh volume of Yashahime Princess Half-Demon. Feel free to react or comment on any panel, though I appreciate if image replies are not used during the dump. Feel free to discuss anything related to Yashahime (or Inuyasha) after the dump.Yashahime was initially created as an anime-only sequel to Inuyasha by Sunrise. The designs of the main cast were provided by Rumiko Takahashi. I have not watched the anime. The manga adaptation was made after the first season and was written and drawn by Takashi Shiina, the creator of Ghost Sweeper Mikami and most likely the biggest Rumiko Takahashi fan in the world. As such, I decided to read and story time this series as well. My commentary will be sparse as I am completely new to the series, but I hope you enjoy the look into Shiina's take on the Inuyasha world.Previous thread: >>288102792I will be using the official localization of the manga by VIZ. Be aware that some of the larger images may have been edited to be lower quality due to image size limits.
Cover's on the next page. I guess. Both pages are honestly just pages rather than a cover, though the next one is a single panel.November 25th, 2023. Author's note:"Volume 1 through 5 of the series are on sale now! Volume 6 is scheduled for February!"
>>288246690I'll be honest, I read these chapters only today so they haven't had much time to ferment in my head and my thoughts are a bit all over the place. Fortunately, we still have Shiina's blog of which Furinkan translated portions. I'll be posting those translations and their summaries of it as it becomes relevant. https://cnanews.asablo.jp/blog/2023/11/
>>288246718You might remember Towa describing this event earlier.
>>288246727Ah, kids...
>>288246744Honestly, I feel like that explanation raises more questions than simply acting like it was some miraculous luck.
>>288246767Furinkan notes that: "In his blog Shiina explains rather than beginning in the modern world in this chapter he had originally planned to have a discussion about the history of tempura, which had just been introduced to Japan at the time that the historical scenes are set in. However he states he decided to switch it up and include the Tatari Mokke which he felt helped connected the Yashahime world with the Inuyasha world more firmly. " They then translate a portion of the blog as follows:"My approach is from a tourist's point of view, thinking, 'Wow, this is the world of Sengoku Otogi Zoshi...!' As a long-time Rumiko Takahashi fan, my perspective overlaps with that of Towa-chan, who grew up in the modern era, so this comicalization is my love song to Rumiko Takahashi's work. It is no exaggeration to say that I am doing this job because I was allowed to do so. However, since Towa-chan is originally a resident there, she will eventually leave my hands and return home."Remember the Tatari Mokke? It appeared in Chapter 35 of Inuyasha, in a story set in the modern world about a girl named Mayu Ikeda. In some ways, that little story segment functions entirely standalone from Inuyasha as a series and I love it dearly.
>>288246850I love the ambiguity of the design being referenced outright here. One of those things that I don't often expect from manga and likely is only really something that crops up when you have another person taking the reins. Anyway, Furinkan notes that: "Shiina goes on to explain his eventually returning Towa (either to Rumic World and beyond his control or to the past, it's a bit unclear) to a British film he saw as a youth." and translates a portion of his blog as follows:"I feel like I've said this several times, but this reminds me of a movie I saw a long time ago called Born Free. This film is based on the true story of a British woman who rescued a baby lion at a time when there was almost no precedent for artificially nursing lions. She named the lion Elsa, raised her, trained her, and returned her to the wild. In the final scene where John Barry's beautiful and majestic masterpiece theme "Born Free" plays, I cried as I watched the lion, who had been loved like a cat, grow up with confidence and leisurely leave for the savannah... When I looked back at it the other day, a lot of things were outdated and I didn't really like it that much (laughs). Well, it's a memory from when I was little. It was a blockbuster movie when it was released.Do we as manga artists say goodbye to the characters once the serialization ends? It is true that we no longer draw them, but they remain with the creator and remain "my children". However, I think my parting with Yashahime and the others, which are copyrighted by someone else, will probably be a little more drastic."Funny anecdote, honestly. This movie is from 1966, by the way. I hope Shiina is proud of his work with Towa and everyone in this series.
>>288246918This scene was very cute.
>>288246935Adorable.
>>288246946Could've easily turned this scene into a bit of unearned romance building, so I appreciate it being made a gag instead.
>>288246969I didn't properly post this thread from another device so I won't be able to bump it from my computer. How irritating. Sorry.
>>288246991
>>288247000
>>288247012Ouch.
>>288247022Shiina's version of Kirara is a bit different than Rumiko Takahashi's. Both forms have a more angular look while the original manga's Kirara was very round visually. In some ways, she resembles the anime's depiction of Kirara (which of course, varied). Of course, there definitely were some not so stellar drawings of Kirara in the Inuyasha manga as well so it is just one of those things.
>>288247082There he is.
>>288247089Furinkan notes: "Shiina discusses the latest of Jyubei's brothers, Rokubei (呂苦兵衛). Rokubei has the character "roku" (六) which means "six" on his shirt." And translates his comment thus:"Rokubei-san of the Hakata corpse shop is a character that wears a monocle. I tried to match the original Jyubei-san's eye scar. Glasses already existed in Europe at the time, and Nobunaga was said to have been very interested in the missionaries who were using them. The invention of the current method of fixing glasses by way of the ears was invented much later, and at that time, glasses were used as pince-nez glasses that were clipped onto the nose. Monocles were popular as fashionable items in the 19th century, and the monocle used by Detective Conan's Kid is in the image of Arsène Lupin, the phantom thief of that time. I don't know if it was during the Sengoku period, but I think it's within an acceptable range for historical research. The lenses must have been quite expensive, so having only one was half the price."Honestly, less about the character and more about monocles. Enjoy the trivia.
>>288247105
>>288247116Per Furinkan: "Rokubei explains that he was sent to the girls by "Hakata no Tsu" (博多津), this is the old name for "Hakata Harbor", or in today's terms, the harbor area of Fukuoka." Though we do see it explained on the next page.
>>288247131
>>288247143
>>288247156Hm...
>>288247174Furinkan has some notes regarding this page, though some are redundant with what we've heard before:""Once we had it clear that wasn't the Mori clan's navy, most of the Otomo clan withdrew most of its forces." - The Otomo clan (大友氏/Otomo-shi) and Mori clan (毛利氏/Mori-shi) were rival clans battling one another at the end of the 15th century. The Mori clan were known for their seamanship, while the Otomo clan are remembered as being one of the first to make contact with Westerners. As a result they developed a working relationship with the Portuguese that arrived in Japan and had dealings with missionary Francis Xavier."They say they don't got the capacity to take on demons while they're busy fightin' at Moji." - Moji (門司) is a ward in the modern city of Kitakyushu in Fukuoka Prefecture."Wars've cut our population in half, but this used to be a flourishin' port city that rivaled Sakai." - Sakai (堺) is a seaport in Osaka, to this day it is one of the most important seaports in Japan."
>>288247188Not exactly a tactician.
>>288247199I would qualify this as largely unhelpful, but this is a supernatural world.
>>288247214
>>288247224Furinkan notes that: "Shiina concludes that he is cobbling together elements of the anime with his own ideas he has developed in the manga." and translates his comment thus:"As usual, this story is going to be something different, I've gathered parts from the anime from all over the place, used newly made materials as adhesive, and reassembled them into a manga. I guess I'm currently working on the first half to middle of the second season of the anime. I would be happy if you could enjoy both the anime and the comic version even more."
>>288247236
>>288247251
>>288247294Seems like we got a spread before the end of chapter. I was confused where the chapter ended and the new one began, so I'm just going based off what the volume says. Had to resize this image. Sorry.
>>288247323End of chapter. We're moving quite along.
Hello! Nothing odd here. Just felt like maybe having this thread a bit higher in the catalog.
Same as last time, the cover is on the next page, but it is just more of the same.December 25th, 2023. Author's note:"Volume 6 will be out around February 16! Please buy it!"
>>288247393How spooky.
>>288247405Per Furinkan: "In his blog Shiina explains that this chapter is his version of some of the events from Yashahime episode 34, though he laments he could not work in "Kid-sama" (a reference to Gosho Aoyama's Kaito Kid due to the use of the hang glider in the episode)."https://cnanews.asablo.jp/blog/2023/12/
>Yashahime ThursdayLESGOOOO>>288246718>Truck-kunYou don't want this smoke
>>288247428Furinkan may have mentioned it earlier, but this is 紅龍破 in Japanese. It is exclusive to Yashahime.
>>288247453
>>288247462Pretty sure I mentioned this move's name before too, but just in case, it is the 朱雀の待ち伏せ and also debuted in Yashahime.
>>288247481Direct hit.
>>288247489Everyone else landed alright, poor Takechiyo.
>>288247509Pretty cool, honestly. Forming smaller reinforcements out of drippings of giants.
>>288247522Only so many pages to devote to every attack.
>>288247558I assume Takechiyo has a bunch of weapons he turned into leaves or toys or something on him.
>>288247572Takechiyo brandishing a sword. Good job. Also, cute page. I was about to write "barring a sword" which is just... not correct. Neither is "baring a sword" really. I feel like a moron. And bearing a sword just means like, having it on your person. I'm not very well read.
>>288247604
>>288247612!!
>>288247618I appreciate that it isn't just a bit of screentone, they also drew some dust clouds or something being distorted.
>>288247632Per Furinkan: "Shiina comments that Zero's "World Reversal" spell (天地返し/Tenchi Gaeshi) is more complex in his story than in the anime because he needed a way to separate the girls form one another and that was the easiest way to do so."
>>288247639I guess I should've posted that when they actually were separated, but you get it.
>>288247655
>>288247663!!
>>288247678
>>288247690I appreciate them being her a bit of menace back after the last bit with her had her fleeing.
>>288246969>>288246991>Towa likes older mensorry Riku shes my wife now
>>288247710Towa's pretty honest and not as prideful as you might expect.
>>288247727
>>288247739Hm?
>>288247750It seems she failed to pulverize them.
>>288247757The last page and a bit have the flashback margins, but I think the flashback proper starts here.
>>288247769!!
>>288247779!
>>288247794Hehehe.
Oh, whoops. That was the last page of the previous chapter. Well, I have some more notes that are more pertinent to this chapter anyway. "Cover" is on the next page.January 25th, 2024. Author's note:"The Birth of Kitarō: Mystery of Gegege (鬼太郎誕生 ゲゲゲの謎/Kitaro Tanjou: Gegege no Nazo) was really interesting."
>>288247863Oh, JoJo, you've ruined me. Anyway, here's more of Furinkan's summary of last month's blog post: "Shiina also explains the difficulty of working with Sesshomaru and Inuyasha's father because of how vague he is in the original manga. He explains that if he tries to keep him vague then he will not be an interesting character while if he tries to build him up he will move too far from the character as he appeared in the original series. However, he goes on to explain that Zero's motivations are very difficult to explain succinctly in the manga versus what was easier to depict in the anime, and he felt that more directly involving the great dog demon and Zero and being very direct in that depiction could help clarify her motivations. Interestingly Shiina-sensei speaks about his test for finding the proper characterization is to imagine the voice actors (in this case Maaya Sakamoto (Zero) and Akio Otsuka(Sesshomaru's father)) saying the lines. He stated that if they sounded right in his mind in their voices he felt that was what worked, however Rumiko Takahashi often corrected this characterizations." Furinkan then translates a comment from the blog post:"As usual, my main point of reference is whether or not I can hear the voice actor's voice. Listen to the voices of Akio Otsuka and Maaya Sakamoto in your head, and if it feels right, it's okay. Afterwards, when I submitted it for Rumiko Takahashi's review, I often found out that my interpretation was wrong (laughs), but I've corrected myself in that regard."So, Rumiko Takahashi approved Toga dialog. I can't blame Shiina for having trouble, Toga's personality isn't exactly showcased by the Inuyasha manga and I'm sure the anime's version of him isn't one to one with Rumiko Takahashi's vision of him (though his visual design is all her work).
>>288247908Another Furinkan note regarding the blog: "Shiina laments not having depicted Zero's costumes changing with her personality shift. He comments that her courtesan costume should have come when she became evil and that in the flashback showing Riku's birth she should have been wearing something else instead. He simply states he had not thought of doing that at the time." Would've been cool.
>>288246946>>288246969Towa cute
>>288247089>Even Jyubei's brothers know how to ENTERRRR
>>288247929Furinkan doesn't have a note and I don't have the raws, but I assume that the term used here is the same used for Naraku's incarnations (or one of the many other terms VIZ used over the years) and was 分身. Not sure though. Maybe it was literally the word shadow, but I feel VIZ did use the term shadow once for this same concept.
>>288247966Okay, this one is actually unrelated to this chapter, but Furinkan remarked about the blogpost for the last chapter: "Ultimately he signs off saying this will be the last story published in 2023 and that while he is trying to tell the story succinctly there is still a long way to go and he hopes readers will stick with the story in 2024."
>>288247131>And your PriceMoroha always chasing that bag hahahaha
>>288247992If you're wondering what Shiina said on the blog for this chapter, he didn't make a blog post. He did clarify his reasons in the blog post after and Furinkan summarizes it thus: "In his blog Shiina explains that he was so busy with his cat's hospitalization that he forgot to update the blog last month. He says explains that he is lazy when it comes to blogging about his manga work however he hopes to increase the available information online about his work and that is why he does it. Also he hopes that it will develop interest in his work so he can pay for his cat's medical bills." I hope his cat's okay. Honestly, he doesn't seem that lazy when it comes to these blogs. Seems to say a lot when most manga creators I know don't say much of anything outside of interviews. I hope Shiina is doing well and I hope the manga adaptation of Yashahime got gotten him a bit of a windfall. I know in the US, most people only ever talk about the anime adaptation (which is understandable) but I genuinely am surprised how little I see online about the manga one.
>>288248043I appreciate the depiction of Toga here. I'm very not used to seeing his humanoid form so it being his primary appearance honestly irks me.
>>288248060It comes naturally to him.
>>288247236I am 100% convinced that this shot of a dog demon surrounded by fire is from that scene Rumiko cut from the manga a few chapters ago of Sesshomaru saving someone from a burning shrine.Shiina seems to REALLY like drawing their dog forms.
>>288248070I wonder if this was one of the moments Rumiko Takahashi picked apart. Maybe not. The final dialog works for me as believably coming from the character we heard of so often in the Inuyasha manga.
>>288248100
>>288248109Hm...>>288248086Well, he should've done it more. There could've been ten pages of that right here.
>>288248123Sigh...
>>288248134Yeah.
>>288248144So, you might remember Shishinki and Ryukotsusei in the Inuyasha manga. Apparently, the detail regarding protecting Inuyasha's mother was from the third movie (for which Toga's humanoid form was designed?). I'll be honest, my memory of how these events were described in the manga isn't the best. In some ways, they ended up being somewhat disappointing foes (at least for me) when they came back from their dormancy but there're ways to explain that.
>>288248209I have no clue what this drink might be.
>>288248219Searching various bottles and jugs from either the Heian era or the Sengoku era didn't really get me anywhere. Admittedly, it could be from the two eras in between as well. Either way, I can't seem to find one that matches this shape.
>>288248255
>>288248261!!
>>288248288
>>288248296A critical junction.
>>288248288>>288248288>>288248310God the Grim Comet being some 'Devil on your shoulder' villain who whispers sweet nothings into your ear is such an inspired choice compared to what it was in the anime.
>>288248310I know it is an evil comet talking, but I do believe there is truth to this. I sort of appreciate that it is not a tragic romance but a tragic unrequited love. Not that we haven't had those in Inuyasha but still.
>>288248329I do really like "What else is all your demonic power for?". The pearls are such a narrative device, but putting their existence in this context gives them a bit of heft to me. She is so powerful, why wouldn't do you anything in your power to stop this pain? I dunno, I'm rambling.
>>288248363Anyway, that's that.
>>288248373?!

>>288248441It is in service of a gag, so it isn't a big deal, but it is definitely one of those word bubbles that is a bit too long for the context in which it is stated.
>>288248474
>>288246744Cute.
>>288248482End of chapter!
There they are.February 24th, 2024. Author's note:"Tankobon 6 is now on sale, be sure to pick it up while you're getting Takahashi-sensei's MAO volume 19!"There was an ad for both of these in this issue (which I'll post later) so it makes sense to reference it. But it is still very nice.

>>288248800This page is significantly lighter in my files than the pages before or after. Might be intentional, but it was a bit jarring. Oh and Furinkan has a note: "Moroha's "Beniyasha Heavenly Arrow Barrage Avalanche" is called "Beniyasha Tenkuu no Yabusuma Nadareotoshi" (紅夜叉 天空の矢襖 雪崩落とし) in Japanese."

>>288248924
>>288247522You guys actually had a plan? I thought you all agreed to just rush in like lemmings.
>>288248929So, Furinkan summarizes a portion of the blog post this month with: "He explains the changes in the relationship between Zero and Riku, adding that it needed to be simplified due to the limits of how many pages it would take up to cover what was shown in the anime version. He also refers to a specific part in the manga where Riku, with tears in his eyes says that "Lady Zero no longer... wishes harm on Lady Towa." In the original Japanese a very literal translation would be that he says "this Lady Zero,"" and then translates a portion of the relevant text:"Now, for those of you who watched the anime, Zero-sama has reached her end in a slightly different, albeit familiar, way. If we were to do Zero's refraction and relationship with Riku as they were in the anime, the number of pages would simply be too large, so this is a comicalized version that has been simplified and uniquely reconfigured while sharing some lines and parts. Riku's line "(This) Lady Zero no longer..." means "For the comicalized space/time Zero." In other words, "Please watch the anime!" (laughs)."Thanks, Shiina. I'll be honest, I have no idea what happens in the anime, but he does go into some more stuff which I'll post in the next one. But yeah, I have no clue. It apparently wasn't bad, at least according to Shiina. https://cnanews.asablo.jp/blog/2024/02/>>288248901Ah, so that's that. I was incorrect. Appreciate the correction.
>>288248975So, here's Furinkan summarizing the blog: "Interestingly, Shiina expresses that he read the scenario for the Yashahime anime that had some differences compared to what eventually aired on TV." and translates the relevant portion:"In the scenario I read, Riku was hesitating with his sword at the ready, and Zero ultimately impaled herself. In the finished version, that part was cut off at the stage of direction, and the situation became simpler and the tempo improved, but at the same time, I think the subtleties of their hearts became a little harder to grasp. It was a very adult-like situation, but I guess it was a decision due to it being a kids' anime. The comicalize adaptation of the story has some of the nuances of Sumisawa's original script, but the story is still based on Riku's will.Unlike the anime, which has enough episodes and a large amount of information that goes into each episode, the comicalize version is a monthly serialization that progresses gradually while compressing the content of the original. The true reunion between Mr. and Mrs. Inuyasha and Mama-Rin is two episodes after the dream conversation, so it was surprisingly quick. I would have liked to have inserted one or two more one-shot episodes of demon extermination, but the compactness of the composition took precedence."I still have no idea what ended up in the TV portion of the anime, but yeah, sounds like some concessions were made.
>>288247572Hisui bullying!
>>288249010
>>288247612That's a fancy viewing screen, Zero.
>>288249032Sigh... A pretty direct reference to one of the most disliked aspects of Yashahime as a series. Admittedly, I don't think the anime ever presented it as a good thing either.
>>288249054Hm...
>>288248975>>288249010I'm gonna be honest the anime is so mid I have completely forgotten how Zero dies in it. I remember the mosquito demon more intimately than I do her death.
>>288247655>their noses still work just fineInu Clan noses have got to be their real most busted ability.
>>288249087Right? Naraku's illusions could feel so real they kill your SOUL and yet Inuyasha and Sesshomaru could still smell through them. Inu Clan noses just can't be tricked, I think.
>>288249067The ship didn't really operate typically. It is a thing for lairs to fall apart after the head guy is defeated, but it is particularly funny given that it is a boat. What, were the walls and ropes held up by demon magic? Does this wood not actually float on the sea? Of course, she has no crew or sailors but still. A parked boat wouldn't collapse when it isn't manned.
>>288247739Smells like cope to me.
>>288249113I think it's partially due to the fact that the interior of the boat appears to be larger than the exterior. Towa kinda implied that here, I think? >>288247727
>>288249113There it goes.>>288249080It was episode 37, apparently. Furinkan's synopsis is very detailed, but hard to parse as someone who hasn't seen the rest of the show. It sounds like Zero just asks for Riku to kill her after a bunch of reveals and conversation and Riku does. So, originally, he hesitated and Zero killed herself more directly while in the final cut, he just did what was asked.
>>288249197I like Moroha here. I also like the giant patch on big Takechiyo. >>288249145Ah, right, so it expands back out and crushes the rest.
>>288249219
>>288249235I'll admit, I don't know what Myoga is referring to in the fourth panel. I feel like I must've missed something? I assume it ties in with what happens next, but I am not on the ball here.
>>288249258
>>288249261So, Furinkan translates the final portion of the blog post like this:"'I'm going to meet Inuyasha and his friends from 'Rumic's Otogi Zoshi'... in a comicalized adaptation,' was something I thought about as I drew, so for me, Towa-chan meeting Inuyasha, Kagome, and Rin face-to-face is probably the most important scene. After that would be the final scene, and then the scene showing the farewell to the Higurashi family. There is still a lot of work to be done before the showdown with Kirinmaru and the Grim Comet, but it feels like the final scene is almost within reach. From the beginning, I set the goal of writing the book to be completed in about ten volumes, and so far it looks like I'll be able to finish it at about that point. Well, it's normal for things like this to end up being a little longer than planned, but... the classic shojo manga Candy Candy (キャンディ・キャンディ) has a total of 9 volumes (laughs). What is the depth and completeness of that manga? It's a pity that it's no longer readily available due to various reasons. Well, let's not talk about other manga (laughs). For now, I'll do my best to draw the family reunion next time. My goal is to make Rumiko Takahashi-sensei cry. I don't think it's possible (laughs)."Anyway, then Furinkan talks a bunch about other manga. So much that I can't fit it in this post and am going to have to put it on the next post even though it has nothing to do with Inuyasha or Yashahime. I guess I could skip it but it is kind of interesting and I dunno, I may as well. It isn't a spoiler or anything.
>>288249315Per Furinkan: "Shiina then goes on to talk about what scenes he thinks are the most important in the series before briefly beginning an aside about the manga Candy Candy. He implies that Candy Candy is not readily available for "various reasons" without further explaining. The reasons are that the two creators, Kyoko Mizuki (writer) and Yumiko Igarashi (artist) and Toei (anime studio that adapted the manga) were involved in lawsuits that began when Igarashi was producing Candy Candy without the involvement of either Mizuki or Toei. Mizuki sued, claiming that she has equal rights and won the lawsuit. Igarashi was forced to pay Suzuki ¥29,500,000, or 3% of their sales. Then Igarashi sued Toei when they were rebroadcasting the Candy Candy anime. All of this legal bad blood has ensured that the Candy Candy manga will be unlikely to be reprinted and the anime will be unlikely to ever be re-aired on television or re-released on future physical or digital media form."

>>288249531Towa spotted. Also, Shiina's blog this time unsurprisingly talks a fair bit about Rin. This'll be in two posts, one here and one a few pages later. Anyway, Furinkan summarizes it as "Regarding Rin, Shiina discusses his need to see the character "completed" more than she was in the Yashahime anime." and translates this portion thus:""I think the character of Mama Rin in the comicalize version was completed here. The anime version was created mainly as a "mother" in a fairy tale plot, so in the manga version, I was looking for a new and unique image of Mama Rin, focusing on expressing her footsteps from Inuyasha. I was thinking that I had a good response to the aforementioned "gourmand," "girlishness," and "natural wife," but something needed to be pushed further... and then I hit the nail on the head with this "cute mother who pushes for her daughters." I tossed out the idea that "In this work, she's a mother, so make her motherly," and instead I let each character have their own session together, the daughters said things like, "Ah, you're so cute, Mom!" and "Good girl, good girl. Mother ," acting as if they were Rin-chan fans. This is a pattern that sometimes occurs in movies, where the actors are asked to improvise and do as they please. I wonder if this is what would have happened if I had thrown it all to the lead voice actors of Yashahime, who grew up watching Inuyasha... I don't know.I think it's a bit too much like my own style, but as a wild Inuyashalockian, my interpretation and conclusion is that "Rin-chan must be loved by everyone."Furinkan adds that: "Japanese people call fans of Sherlock Holmes "Sherlockians", so Shiina hybridized "Inuyasha" and "Sherlockian" to come up with the "Inuyashalockian" term." https://cnanews.asablo.jp/blog/2024/03/

>>288249661Per Furinkan: ""This dish is rare in the land of the rising sun." - Rion is referring to "tempura" which is today a very common dish in Japan, however during the Sengoku period it was very uncommon. Though fried dishes did exist they did not use batter. This was introduced by Portuguese traders who arrived in Nagasaki during the 16th century. The word "tempura" comes from the Portuguese word "témporas"."

>>288249743>>288249750>>288249759FUCKMY HEART
>>288249795>>288249759Gah, I messed it up. The blog post goes into detail about this scene. Furinkan has translated it for us:"This is one of the chapters I've wanted to draw since the serialization started. To tell you how much I wanted to draw it, I've been buying cans of oden for two years as drawing materials for this chapter (laugh). When I was given the opportunity to do the comicalization, I wanted Towa to bring oden to her as a souvenir. If I could, I would have had Kagome's mother's homemade oden in a Tupperware container from Towa-chan, but that was impossible, so I decided to use canned oden.According to Rumiko Takahashi, there is no option for a sequel to Inuyasha where "Kagome-chan returns home to the present day." The final scene in which she decides to "live with Inuyasha" is a choice that touches our hearts because she knows that she will "lose her modern life and will never be able to return." Therefore, even in the comicalized version, family reunions are not allowed. However, since I started the story from the perspective of "I want to meet Kagome, Inuyasha, and the others again," I felt that the remaining family members were like us fans, so I needed a scene where they could connect in some way.So, in the first chapter, the luggage set-up was changed to "Sota's backpack". Regardless of whether or not I would actually eventually draw it, I was certain from that moment that it would contain a can of oden and a video message. If Sota was preparing it, he would have all the supplies needed during the rush to enter the Sengoku period, and it would also serve as his backup. This time, I was able to safely retrieve that idea it and draw the scene of the Higurashi family, and Takahashi-sensei was also pleased with the result. Kagome-chan's birthday is the day she met Inuyasha and the day the story began, so the series of blessing and thanking her is a meta-message to Kagome and Takahashi-sensei to convey the feelings of the fans."
>>288249803Okay, so Shiina covered a lot of it, but I have to talk about this. I honestly was crying too hard to notice it, but the can says Rumic Oden on it and has the Piyo-Piyo chick on it from Maison Ikkoku (though it was also in Wedded Bliss, there's some trivia for you). It also has some goofy text at the bottom to justify how it worked out. And Shiina did cover it, but even outside the meta-perspective, I adored this. Rumiko Takahashi is obviously right, the romantic in me needs for Kagome's sacrifice to be real. But I couldn't help but think about her poor mother and Kagome herself, living so far apart and never knowing anything of what happened to each other. I appreciate that Rumiko Takahashi allowed this scene to get made and I appreciate Shiina for writing it. If there's anything I want to be canon from Yashahime, it is Kagome getting to see these videos (somehow). That's at the top of my list and maybe this is the fanboy in me talking, but it absolutely justified reading and posting this series for me. Anyway, enough for me going on and on.

>>288249945
>>288249951!!
>>288249961
>>288249973Hm... this line by Inuyasha reminds me of the conversation we had regarding Inuyasha's age last time. Like, my natural instinct to read this as if he's referring to the events of the Inuyasha series, but of course, you could easily read it as referring to the presumably wild and potentially destructive behavior he had a good bit prior to the start of the manga. I guess given that movie 3 is definitely canon to Yashahime, it should realistically be the latter, but it doesn't feel that way.
>>288250007I'm going to split up Furinkan's translations of Shiina's blog. Here's a minor tidbit:"The reason I made Rin get drunk in the second half was to change the atmosphere of the scene, but it worked better than I expected, and I was able to not only establish her character but also portray the feelings of those around her."
>>288250020Hm?
>>288250029Oh by the way, someone was curious about these retainers and suggested that they are oni. I can see that, but I will say, the way their horns look remind me a lot of Hannya masks. In some ways, it almost seems like a combination of the masks representing the transformation into a Hannya. And they do appear female. But of course, the context is completely different.
>>288250076Hannya appear to be women who are transformed into yokai for being too jealous? Kinda makes it interesting that these are the retainers she has when one of the first things Setsuna said to SessMama was "You're beautiful" and her response was "True, no woman is more beautiful than I."
Where is the sesrin hater?
>>288250076So, here's more from Furinkan's translation of Shiina's blog:"At the same time, the last arrangements involving the Dream Butterfly was safely recovered. Even though it's Otogi Zoshi Spacetime, it's still painful for a parent and child to be separated at the height of their cuteness, and I wanted to make up for it in some way in the comicalized version. So, when I changed "Deprive Setsuna of her sleep" to "Deprive her of joy," I also adopted this as the reason. That's why I had the cooperation of my Sesshomaru's mother. She has been a huge help to me as a wild card in the play." Otogi Zoshi (御伽草子) is often translated as "fairy tale" but more literally translates to "companion tale". These were illustrated stories from the Muromachi period (1392-1573). Thanks, Wikipedia. The only ones I'm even remotely familiar with are the Issun-boshi and Urashima Taro. Anyway, his point is in this type of setting and story, you can normally accept a kid growing away from his family. But this obviously bothered both fans and Shiina so here we are. But before we rag on the anime for its decisions, Shiina does continue in his blog and discusses some stuff regarding it.
>>288250171They're probably waiting for OP to finish. Say what you want about them, but they have at least been polite enough to wait for the dump to end before starting their slander campaign.
>>288250173Anyway, as mentioned, Shiina continues on his blog like this (Furinkan's translation): "So, it was a fun chapter where I was able to reveal what I was planning all at once. Sumizawa-san also praised the way it all came together in this chapter. By the way, I think I'm probably the one who understands the hardships that Sumizawa-san went through in starting up this story from scratch. I just reconstructed it later for the manga adaptation, and it's a simple set of circumstances where the only boss is Rumiko Takahashi, so I'm the one who thinks, "I understand that this was done this way for a reason." I want to express my gratitude to Sumizawa-san and say, "It must have been very difficult. Once it's finished, let's go for a drink."Well, from the next chapter onwards, we'll finally move on to the final boss, Kirinmaru, and the showdown with the Grim Comet. Please stay with us for a while as we continue to enjoy the comicalized version of Yashahime."Very kind words, though I'll admit, I can see it being read back-handedly. I wonder who all the players were when it came to the original Yashahime script, because the way it is being described here makes it sound like Yashahime is what happens when you try to write by committee. >>288250171They sometimes show up the next day. What, you miss them? I hope they get through to the end. We've not got much left.
>>288250220End of chapter, end of volume. Thanks for reading! Well, I've gushed about this one enough. I obviously liked it a lot, but most of what I liked was in the final two chapters (which admittedly were significantly longer than the previous ones). Obviously, some of that is because I am a fan of Inuyasha but I do think Shiina did good with the Yashahime cast this volume and I ultimately enjoyed Zero as a character. Feel free to use the thread to discuss anything Yashahime (or Inuyasha) related. I have some stuff I'll posting here and there to bump the thread.I will be dumping volume 8 on Thursday. I hope to see you there.
>>288250220>I wonder who all the players were when it came to the original Yashahime script, because the way it is being described here makes it sound like Yashahime is what happens when you try to write by committee.Iirc there was a lot of back and forth between Sumizawa, the season 1 director leaving before season 2, the new director not agreeing with the plot points of the first, some of the VA's expressing their opinions, and some other stuff that Rumiko had to come in and set some ground rules. It's not a surprise the anime was a shitshow and that the manga, with the benefit of hindsight, isn't.
>>288250245Thanks for posting OP! I think Volume 9 just dropped this month, but what's the plan after that? Are you going to post the individual chapters, or are we waiting until Volume 10 drops for the finale?

And we have the cover, even if the quality will suffer. So, yeah, I'll be posting the rips I have of the chapters of the final volume rather than the volume (which isn't out). Just how it is.

RAWsGuy here, still around if anyone wants anything specific. Presumably you would need to overcome the Yōki/Yōryoku it imbues into its target to heal again. It helps give an in-universe explanation for why Sesshōmaru took so long to recover his arm. You know, aside from the fact that it’s also symbolic of him attaining greater power when he finally overcomes his obsession for Tessaiga, and all that.

>>288254269Yeah but while presentation absolutely plays an important part in it, I still regardless feel there is some bias taking place. Keep everything in that fight exactly the same but replace Towa, Moroha, and Kirinmaru with Luffy, Zoro, and Imu, and you know people would have eaten it up and asked for a second serving regardless of quality.
>>288253184Absolutely gorgeous puppy girl.
Okay, commentary time!>>288246935>This scene was very cuteIt would’ve been cuter with Moroha, who’s Sota actual blood-related niece. I still don’t get Sumisawa’s decision to have one of the Sessrin twins be raised by Kagome’s family instead of Moroha, Sesshomaru had fuck-all to do with Kagome, and it just makes Towa come off as even more of a special snowflake Donutsteel OC Mary-Sue than she already is.>>288246969>Making an age-gap/grooming jokeI suppose I shouldn’t be so surprised considering Shiina appears to be a Sessrincel, but you’d think he’d have a little self-restraint here considering the ship he’s writing right? Like it’s a whole “read the room” sort of thing… Definitely not beating the allegations here. Though come to think of it isn’t Ritowa also technically a creepy grooming ship considering Riku was already an older teen or adult when Towa was born? Like mother like daughter I suppose. Well, at least Riku only saw Towa like once when she was a baby and then was out of her life till she was 14 so he never actively raised her, so it’s still not as bad as Sessrin but still…>>288247000>Rion claims that Sesshomaru is a better father than her’sMaybe to Rin during her childhood, definitely not to Towa and Setsuna considering he abandoned dem kids and didn’t lift a finger to help Rin raise them when they were babies, InuKag literally had to help raise them in his stead. Sure Kirinmaru appears to be an overly clingy and protective father who can’t accept his daughter’s death and let her go but that’s still better than being the outright deadbeat Groomermaru is, it’s obvious Rion is just going through a rebellious phase and doesn’t know what she’s talking about.
>>288248070>It comes naturally to him.Toga’s got Izayoi, Zero, and even his own son Sesshomaru all in love with him, what a dog! (no I’m not counting Sessmom here cause I always interpreted that to be an arranged marriage for political purposes rather than a “love marriage” judging from her complete non-chalance over her husband’s little indiscretion during the original).>>288248209>He met his end protecting a human princessOkay, I’ve got a bone to pick here… You mean to tell me the 3rd movie is acknowledged as canon in Yashahime? That doesn’t make any sense and completely contradicts the timeline considering Yashahime has so far shown half-demons to be aging at the same rate as full humans do. Towa and Setsuna are 14 year old teenagers after having been born exactly 14 years ago, and Shiori has grown up into an adult, how is any of this possible if the 3rd movie claims that Inuyasha is chronologically 200 years old? Yashahime and the 3rd movie cannot exist within the same timeline considering their contradictory stances on hanyou aging, pick one and only one Shiina/Sumisawa.>>288248822>Moroha combining her spiritual and youkai powers into one I really wish we saw more of this, part of the reason why Moroha would’ve been so much more interesting as the MC is because she’s a new thing we’ve never encountered in the world of Inuyasha before. Sesshomaru’s twins being just regular hanyou are a bit “been there, done that” but Moroha is the first quarter-demon we’ve ever seen. And not only is she a quarter-demon but she’s a unique combination of both spiritual and youkai powers which are SUPPOSED to contradict each other and cancel each other out yet she seems to be able to harness them both perfectly in harmony? She’s a real wild-card as a result, you could make an entire series just exploring how she comes into her own and develops both sides of her heritage.
>>288248975>”Someday humans will drive demons out of this world “OHO, is this a hint as to why there’s no longer any demons left in the Modern Era? I wonder what it’s referring to, outright genocide at the hands of humans or did they get ethnically cleansed into space to become the Aliens from Urusei Yatsura?>>288249371>”His sweet scent…”OOC count number 13! Or 14? Why is Rin imagining saying this about Sesshomaru when she was a little kid and DEFINITELY had zero romantic feelings back then considering she never got jealous over Kagura and was shipping them together? Hell, it’s even OOC for “adult Rin” to be thinking this considering last volume pretty much established that Rin’s a gold digger that’s only using Sesshomaru for his money and sees him as her meal ticket to a better life for her kids and descendants rather than actual love interest. Also again with constantly calling back to child Rin, Shiina just can’t help himself can he? Why the fuck is RIN herself imagining herself as a child? Isn’t she supposed to have grown up and now views Sesshomaru as her “equal partner” rather than Hogosha? This is all sus as fuck!>>288249434>Well this chapter is going to get some people heated. You thought right.>>288249437>Sessrincels: “S-Sesshomaru never ACTUALLY raised Rin, Jaken was her real father figure!”>Jaken: “I-I didn’t do it for YOUR sake!”Interesting… I thought Jaken was Rin’s actual father figure all along yet here he’s basically admitting he’s only ever looked after Rin and her kids under direct orders from Sesshomaru himself, what say you Sessrincels? Why would Sesshomaru order Jaken to look after Rin like a nanny if she was never like a daughter to him?>>288249452>”…At present those girls need their mother.”And not their father too…? Sesshomaru was unironically a better father to Rin than he is to his own damn biological daughters he had with her, sad!
>>288249531>The difference between Inuyasha and Sesshomaru is that Sesshomaru’s a deadbeat dad and Inuyasha isn’tAnd I don’t want to hear any excuses that it’s only cause Sesshomaru is a full demon while Inuyasha is half and maybe demon fathers parent differently when that’s bullshit considering we have an example right in this very series of Kirinmaru being a loving and involved dad the same as any human dad would be, hell even in the original series we saw plenty of involved full demon dads such as Shiori’s father, Shippo’s dad, the Thunder Brothers, that one kid’s dad who Sesshomaru used the Tenseiga on after Shippo begged him to. Sesshomaru being a distant deadbeat isn’t a demon father thing, it’s just a Sesshomaru thing.
>>288249593>”So this is my mom, she’s younger and tinier than I expected. Almost more like a SISTER than a Mother.”BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!! I-I can’t… Towa is seriously thinking to herself what the entire audience is thinking, that Rin’s WAY too young to be a mother and looks and acts more like their sister than their mother. Genuinely what is Shiina and Sumisawa trying to accomplish here? Why do they keep wink-wink nodding to the audience that Sesshomaru and Rin’s relationship is really more like a father-daughter than lovers? Between paralleling Sessrin with Kirinmaru and Rion (in both the manga AND anime I’d like to point out, seeing as how OP has mentioned they never saw the anime of Yashahime), and now comments like this… Why if I didn’t know better I’d think Shiina was making fun of the Sessrin shippers and deliberately trying to troll them. This sort of shade can’t be accidental, unless Rumiko instructed for him to throw subtle shade like this to remind the audience on how she really feels about Sesshomaru and Rin’s relationship? Wouldn’t put it past her considering she’s the Queen of Passive Aggressive blowbacks like this, I mean she already drew Rin wearing Kagura’s kimono for the Sessrin family portrait cover, maybe she wants Shiina to remind the audience at every turn that Sessrin are really that of a Hogosha and his adopted ward and never forget this is just fanservice fanfiction in favor of the shippers (and Sumisawa) who wouldn’t shut up? I can’t imagine why Shiina would have Towa say such a blatantly anti-Sessrin comment like that that’s so common in anti circles, unless he and Sumisawa actually get off on Sessrin being perceived as a grooming ship like the lolicon perverts they are? Wouldn’t put it past them since we know already it’s a lie when Sessrincels say they ONLY ship “adult Rin” and Sesshomaru.
here we go...
>>288249593Anyways, yes, yes Towa you’re correct. Rin IS way too young to be your and Setsuna’s mother and she SHOULD’VE been your older sister instead of your mom but the pedos and self-inserters argued otherwise so here we are.>the daughters said things like, "Ah, you're so cute, Mom!" and "Good girl, good girl. Mother”>Unironically having Rin’s daughters treat her like a little sister as if she’s still a little kidOkay this is genuinely creepy Shiina… Wtf is it with Sessrin shippers seemingly incapable of allowing Rin to grow up? Even when they age her up physically they still don’t allow her to age mentally and have her act like she’s still 8 years old. This is why you guys all have the creepy reputation that you do within the Inuyasha fandom and no one believes for a minute that you don’t all just have a lolicon fetish. I have yet to meet a Sessrin shipper that TRULY ships Sesshomaru with an adult Rin, they always find some way to kiddify her.>Rin is a “natural wife”>Rin-chan must be loved by everyone. So not only is she pedobait but she’s also nothing but a Mary-Sue and in the same league as characters like Hinata and Orihime who’s only characteristic and goal in life is to be the perfect submissive waifu, that’s not a compliment Shiina… You just hit Rin with the shonen waifubot syndrome.
>>288249617>’She’d be a really young mom by modern standards’Okay, we got it the first time Towa… Why do you gotta keep reminding the audience of this? …Wait a minute, is this supposed to be a hint that Jaken’s whole “I’m sure Rin was 18 when she had the twins Officer” from the anime is in fact bullshit and Sesshomaru actually DID impregnate Rin before she was even legal? I always thought it was suspicious how during the flashback episode of the anime where Rin gives birth Hisui looked like a toddler who could barely walk, and yet Sessrincels expect us to believe that pic-related was elementary school age and Rin was totes 18, trust me guise? Yeah not buying it… Especially when Towa in the manga likes to keep putting emphasis on just how young her mother is and Rin herself was drawn looking younger than her daughters in the anime. I mean since there’s a Drama CD out there supervised by Sumisawa where Sesshomaru proposes to a literal 11 year old Rin I really wouldn’t past him if he meant for Rin to give birth when she was only 15, maybe even a little younger. Sumisawa is a fucking creep and it’s obvious he’s only using Sesshomaru as his self-insert power fantasy to imagine himself grooming a loli.>”She’s nothing at all like Mama Moe…”Yeah, that’s because Moe is an actual adult and Rin isn’t.
>>288249694Why is Kagome not sitting together with Inuyasha, Moroha, and Shippo? I find that weird.>>288249743>>288249901>I'm going to be blunt with you guys. This is my favorite scene in this series thus far and I don't think that is going to change.>I appreciate that Rumiko Takahashi allowed this scene to get made and I appreciate Shiina for writing it. If there's anything I want to be canon from Yashahime, it is Kagome getting to see these videos (somehow). That's at the top of my list and maybe this is the fanboy in me talking, but it absolutely justified reading and posting this series for me.Yeah I agree, this is probably my favorite scene as well and this and Moroha are pretty much the only things that I consider canon from Yashahime as well. Though I gotta be honest, this whole scene would’ve felt a lot more meaningful if it was coming from Moroha, Kagome’s own daughter, rather than Towa. I just can’t help getting the inkling that this is yet another example of Sumisawa’s Sesshomaru wank, since it seems kind of ridiculous that one of Sesshomaru’s daughters - a character whom had nothing to do with Kagome or the Higurashi family - is the one to deliver this and even develop a bond and be raised by Kagome’s family in the first place. I guess what I’m saying is that should’ve been Moroha, and it would’ve felt way more natural if this had been a Kagome and Moroha mother-daughter moment than Kagome and Towa aunt-niece.
>>288249919>”Because of you, my mom and dad met.”Whuttt…? That seems like a little bit of a reach. How is Kagome ultimately responsible for Sesshomaru and Rin meeting? Wouldn’t Inuyasha have eventually gotten the Tetsusaiga one way or another even if he hadn’t met Kagome? I mean that was always his inheritance, and Sesshomaru would’ve ended up coming after him for the Black Pearl in his eye with or without Kagome there. Furthermore how does Towa even know how her parents met during this point in Yashahime? She only just met her mother!>”Thanks for loving my mother”If she really loved her then she wouldn’t have allowed her to get groomed by her Hogosha right from under her nose, she honestly showed more care towards Koharu who was little more than a total stranger than her own “sister in-law.”>”We’d better put Rin to bed.”Again with the treating Rin as if she’s still 8 years old and it’s past her bedtime, will this never end?! It feels especially weird coming from Kohaku since he was always close to her age.>>288249936Subtle Kohrin shipping?>>288249961>Again with comparing Towa to her grandadI said it once and I’ll say it again: Toga is more like Towa’s mother than Rin is kek.>>288250007>”Forget that loser Sesshomaru. At least Sota knows how to raise a kid.”You’re right there Inuyasha.
>>288250020>Setsuna while tucking Rin in: “Oh dear… She’s even cute in her sleep.”>Kohaku: “Which of you is the mom?”Again with the shade that Rin seems younger than her own damn daughters… We’re all wondering the exact same thing Kohaku, kek.Aaannnd done! This volume was weird, while I loved the InuKagMoro reunion and Kagome reuniting with the Higurashis one last time through video, the constant callouts over Rin seeming too young to be her daughters’ mother and attempting to babify her at every turn really weirded me out and made me uncomfortable. OP what did you think of all the commentary of Rin being too young to be a mother and acting childish?
>>288255043Even ignoring the delusional headcanons they’re basing their bias around, the most annoying thing about their commentary has got to be the continued semantic dilution.
>>288255288>continued semantic dilution. How am I doing this? Post an example please?
>>288255147Well, you're asking me outright, so I guess I'll talk about it. My interpretation is obviously going to be much more charitable. I take Shiina at his word when he states his reasoning behind it, he wanted there to be a stronger connection between Inuyasha (the series) and Yashahime when it came to Rin's portrayal. So, Rin had to feel more like Rin did back in Inuyasha. This means being a bit genki and being cute and someone to protect. I think even without his blog, I can see why Rin is written this way. As such, I interpret these comments through that lens rather than raising questions of "So what does Sesshomaru see in her?".Even though I personally do not like SessRin, I can build a worldview of Yashahime where Sesshomaru (like everyone else) likes all those youthful aspects without her being too young for romantic love. She basically is a woman who kept all her charm-points from the original series. I definitely feel like if the goal was to simply appeal to lolicons, there were simpler avenues. I can't imagine many of them would be very titillated by Rin as depicted in the final chapter. Speaking bluntly though, I am not a big Sesshomaru or Rin fan in general (though this is relatively speaking, I love a lot about Inuyasha as a series). But I did end up loving Towa and Setsuna for their own merits as characters in this manga. And I am glad you enjoyed my favorite scene of Yashahime. I hope what I said made sense.
>>288248513Per Furinkan: "In this month's issue there is an advertisement for Yashahime volume 6 and MAO volume 19."
>>288255341I already tried explaining it to you before and you weren't particularly interested in listening, so I'm not particularly interested in attempting it again.
human male demon female relations must be improved
>>288256884This isn't Monster Musume, the girl demon is more likely to eat the guy after she's done with him.
>>288257013I am willing to hedge that bet
>>288255121>. I just can’t help getting the inkling that this is yet another example of Sumisawa’s Sesshomaru wank, since it seems kind of ridiculous that one of Sesshomaru’s daughters - a character whom had nothing to do with Kagome or the Higurashi family - is the one to deliver this and even develop a bond and be raised by Kagome’s family in the first placeYou do realize that Kagome is Towa's aunt and Kagome's family literally raised her right? Why are you against the manga giving Towa better characterization and making her likeable? The biggest problem with the anime was how fucking boring and bland she was
>>288256513What do you mean by “semantic dilution” though? Are you referring to the whole Hogosha term?>She basically is a woman who kept all her charm-points from the original series.I guess the problem for me is that she was already barely a character even in the original, all her “charm-points” was really just “child.”>I definitely feel like if the goal was to appeal to lolicons there were much simpler avenues to go about itSuch as what? Remember this is still a relatively family-friendly series aimed at kids, they were never going to be able to go too explicit like what you see in some late-night anime.>I hope what I said makes senseYeah don’t worry it does, and I’m pleased to see that even you OP as the Storytimer are also not a Sessrinfag. Sessrincels always try to make it seem like Sessrin is the most popular and beloved ship in the fandom when that couldn’t be farther from the truth and I think it makes most people uncomfortable. Rumiko actually faced a lot of backlash for making Sessrin “canon” even from the Japanese fandom I’ve heard.>>288257428>You do realize that Kagome is Towa's aunt and Kagome's family literally raised her right? And it should’ve been Moroha.>Why are you against the manga giving Towa better characterization and making her likeable? Because Moroha should’ve been the main character to begin with, and I’m certainly not against giving Towa better characterization, that’s actually one aspect I’ve gladly sung my praises for the manga is that Towa definitely seems to be a lot more interesting of a character here, that being said there are ways to make her more interesting without having to make her steal Moroha’s family.
>>288257711Also meant for >>288256174 forgot to quote you OP.
>>288257711>Because Moroha should’ve been the main character to begin withDirectly stated by Rumiko as having been pitched to her multiple times and she was not interested in that story being told. Cope and seethe more.
I get that word of god means Kagome can never go home. But what about Towa? Or Setsuna? And Moroha? Half of the third season of the anime took place there, so what's going to be the play in the manga?
>>288257750Towa struggling with her identity and where she belongs seems to actually be a theme in this story so I'm sure it will get explored in the next few volumes.
>>288257711Every time you post you continue to convince me that you aren't just against SessRin as a ship, but actively despise both of the characters themselves in a vacuum even devoid of shipping.
>>288249371Per Furinkan: "In this month's issue there is an advertisement for Rumiko Takahashi's new artbook Colors which will be in stores a few days after this chapter was published." I own this book twice over. But I still haven't read the English translation of all the text. >>288257711Glad it made sense. I will say that looking up Sesshomaru fanart on pixiv did show a lot a lot of Sessrin fanart, so it does seem reasonably popular in Japan. As for how they could've more appealed to lolicons more simply? Well, having an actual very young girl in the main cast would probably be the easiest. But I'm not really interested in exploring this proposal beyond simply stating that. As for Rin's character being flat in Inuyasha, I can agree with that. I mean, there's a reason Shiina ended up adding gourmand to her characterization. >>288257750Oh wow, I didn't know about that in regards to the anime. I'll be honest, with the trajectory I am seeing, I struggle to see how that would play out in the manga (even though I do like seeing the modern day in Inuyasha so I assume I'd enjoy it in Yashahime as well). It is funny to describe it as "home", given that Kagome's home has clearly become the feudal era. And Setsuna and Moroha are obviously just... feudal characters. >>288257743I get where Rumiko Takahashi is coming from. After all, Inuyasha and Kagome's stories are done and you don't want to retread old ground. But I do find it a bit odd that that would apply to their progeny. After all, Setsuna and Towa only realistically contribute a little bit to Sesshomaru as a character. Maybe Rumiko Takahashi is just a bit more protective of Moroha, but she doesn't strike me as that type of writer.
>>288258029>But I do find it a bit odd that that would apply to their progeny. After all, Setsuna and Towa only realistically contribute a little bit to Sesshomaru as a character.By her words any child between Kagome and Inuyasha simply would not be as interesting as either of them were. It’s why she shot down any proposal for a sequel series until someone proposed Sesshoumaru’s Hanyou children as the protagonists, which piqued her interest enough to approve it.
>>288258029>Oh wow, I didn't know about that in regards to the anime. It is funny to describe it as "home", given that Kagome's home has clearly become the feudal era. And Setsuna and Moroha are obviously just... feudal characters.Oh, sorry. I thought you watched the animeIt would be a great subversion to Kagome's choice to stay in the past if Towa instead decided to stay in the future with her foster family.
>>288258029>Maybe Rumiko Takahashi is just a bit more protective of Moroha, but she doesn't strike me as that type of writer.Maybe it's a combination of things. She mentioned at least once that she had the idea for what Moroha looked like and acted like even back in the 90s. Basically every single thing that Kagome said she did not want her child to become. She likely resisted because she didn't want someone to overwrite her vision of a character as old as the series, and relented because of the knowledge that there isn't much she can realistically do to protect her vision of Inuyasha's world forever. So as long as it doesn't affect where she stopped, then she's flexible

>>288249112It's always funny looking back and realizing that despite being so overwhelmingly powerful and a threat to many of them, Naraku himself was 'only' a hanyou and wasn't a Great Demon even by technicality.
>>288261102naraku wasn't a hanyou. just a twisted human that fed himself to demons in exchange for a new body and power.
>>288261654He was, that's the term Rumiko Takahashi used to describe him. Hanyo exist in many forms and it is a broad term. He was designed in part as a foil to Inuyasha in that capacity. https://www.furinkan.com/iycompanion/manga/wide29.html
>>288261794still completely different to yokai/human offspring hanyou. the main reason he was so powerful was that he used thousands of yokai to absorb into a single body.
>>288262066I feel like part of the premise is that yokai purity isn't true strength. Rumiko Takahashi emphasizes that hanyo are more powerful since they are combinations. "I'm intrigued by Inuyasha's half-demon (半妖/hanyo) nature, but when I hear the word, I tend to immediately associate it with negative images such as "half-a-man" (半人前/hanninmai) or "half-minute" (半分/hanbun). However, if you read this manga carefully, you will see it depicts that this may be a "perfect being."Takahashi: It's not that they can't be both, half-demons have the power of both, because a half-demon is a hybrid being. They have the mind of a human and the different powers of a yokai. I think Inuyasha's father understood all of this, and that is why he entrusted Inuyasha and his brother Sesshomaru with what to do after he died."
