Alright, it is Thursday and I am gonna post the eighth volume of Yashahime Princess Half-Demon. Feel free to react or comment on any panel, though I appreciate if image replies are not used during the dump. Feel free to discuss anything related to Yashahime (or Inuyasha) after the dump.Yashahime was initially created as an anime-only sequel to Inuyasha by Sunrise. The designs of the main cast were provided by Rumiko Takahashi. I have not watched the anime. The manga adaptation was made after the first season and was written and drawn by Takashi Shiina, the creator of Ghost Sweeper Mikami and most likely the biggest Rumiko Takahashi fan in the world. As such, I decided to read and story time this series as well. My commentary will be sparse as I am completely new to the series, but I hope you enjoy the look into Shiina's take on the Inuyasha world.Previous thread: >>288246634I will be using the official localization of the manga by VIZ. Be aware that some of the larger images may have been edited to be lower quality due to image size limits.
Spooky. April 25th, 2024. Author's note:"Volume 7 will be coming out on May 17th, the same day as Takahashi-sensei's MAO volume 20, so please be sure to check them out."
>>288392994Per Furinkan:"Sakai (堺市) is a port city south of Osaka. Musashi provence (武蔵国/Musashi no kuni) was a former province in Japan that now comprises modern Tokyo. " I don't think Inuyasha ever stated the province that Kaede's village occupied, but it logically would be in Musashi given the location of Kagome's former home in the Heisei era.
>>288393033
>>288393051The running gag continues.
>>288393061Been a bit. As for the debate over anime-aging vs. stasis, it does seem like stasis was a factor, but Sango also didn't age so.
>>288393145
>>288393159
>>288393172Hm.
>>288393251Kagome's handling it well. I assume the term space-time might've been even more sci-fi sounding in the original Japanese, but Rin could easily be unfamiliar even with a more common term.
>>288393282Oblivion.
>>288393288Plan is in motion.
>>288393301By the way, Shiina didn't post on his blog for these first two chapters.
>>288393326
>>288392975I really want a new Anime adaption, so we could get some filler. The Manga is too fast
>>288393341Per Furinkan: "The breaking of a sandal's thong is a bad omen in Japan similar to breaking a mirror or walking under a ladder in western cultures." Though it usually seems to be considered something that foretells bad luck rather than causes it.
>>288393480Furinkan notes that: "Similarly, Hizen (肥前国/Hizen no kuni) is the former historical province that is now near present-day Nagasaki." which the text admittedly also notes. >>288393466Feels like kind of a wild statement to me, given that it is ten volumes and the chapters are very long (though volumes don't have a lot of them). But I am always a manga person. Most people I know seem to consider Inuyasha as a series too long and that's without the filler, just pure manga content, so I am always curious about what the anime filler fans see in it. It sounds like it is mainly Inuyasha acting like a goofball.
>>288393530Furinkan notes that: ""That's dad's old bae." - In Japanese Moroha says "父ちゃんの元カノな。" (Tou-chan no motokano na.) or "That's dad's ex-girlfriend," however it is said using a very modern colloquialism."So, VIZ found something in English they could use that is very modern. Though it is obviously outdated now. I think.
>>288393551
>>288392975>Yashahime thursdayVAMOS... Imagine if Sesshomaru jobs now>>288393466You're going to trigger "but muh accurate source material adaptation" retards
>>288393564Hm...>>288393616Oh, like me.
>>288393676I do like that this is addressed pretty frankly, even if characters like Kaede still think of her as Kikyo in some form. It is definitely having your cake and eating it too, but it isn't the end of the world. Plus, the tree stopped being as much of a narrative crutch for most of the manga so I don't mind it too much.

>>288393997!!
>>288394010Per Furinkan: ""Muito prazer" - Meidomaru speaks to Sesshomaru using Portuguese. "Muito prazer" is "nice to meet you." Shiina explains in his comments on chapter 26 he thought about having Meidomaru speak Spanish or Portuguese like the missionaries who were arriving in Japan at the time but decided to hold off. Obviously he has reconsidered this by this chapter."
>>288393941Is Sesshomaru the biggest case of "EL HERMANO"? He's the most "MC but better in every way" character I can think of.
>>288394027
>>288394028What about Flame of Recca's Kurei?
>>288394041End of chapter. Hm...
The cover is technically a bit later. Also, the spoilered text here is regarding this chapter. May 24th, 2024. Author's note:"I never imagined I would kill the child from the final chapter of Inuyasha in the future."

>>288394248Don't expect me to chime in much during action scenes.
>>288394267Very androgynous design.
>>288394328Per Furinkan: "As before, Meidomaru speaks Portuguese. "Sim" is "yes"."
>>288394340Furinkan notes that: "Satori (覚) is an actual historical yokai with the ability to read minds. Goshinki (悟心鬼) is the demon from Inuyasha that had a similar ability."Satori has a wikipedia page if you want to read up. Or anywhere else, I guess. But yeah, they're monkey-like yokai who are mindreaders.
>>288394377Everyone powering up now. Which makes sense given the situation, but they probably should've done it a few pages earlier.

>>288394450
>>288394457!!
>>288394518Oh hey, there's a direct reference to the term. I still don't remember if Inuyasha as a manga ever used it but Yashahime definitely does.
>>288394558...
>>288271272I kinda want to see a situation where someone is manipulating Inuyasha's or Sesshomaru's senses and they are forced to fight only by smelling where their opponent is and what they're doing, now.

>>288394917So, there was some stuff in the anime that got altered here. Shiina gets into it in the blogpost for next chapter (I fortunately read ahead regarding Furinkan's notes today).
>>288394937People always underestimate the humans.
>>288394377So in case the powerscaler guy is around, the Raws make no mention of "light" here.>動きが速い上に心を読むと…?>It's already incredibly fast, and it can read people's thoughts too...?>>288394340But interestingly enough, when Riku is giving the explanation for them being able to transform themselves into lightning, he also uses "瞬間移動する" which is literally just "teleport" and are the same kanji used in Dragonball for Instant Transmission.>身体を稲妻に変えて瞬間移動するようです!>It seems they can transform their body into lightning and teleport instantly!
>>288394948...
>>288394989
>>288394948Protect yo girl, Hisui!>>288394989shit
>>288394996Per Furinkan: "The sutra that Jaken is chanting is the Heart Sutra (般若波羅蜜多心経/Hannya Hara Mitta Shingyo). It is one of the most popular sutra in Buddhism in east Asia."It's dark, it's cramped," - this is the famous phrase often chanted by Shutaro Mendo when he is trapped somewhere dark and enclosed."I don't put it past Shiina. Shutaro Mendo is a character in Urusei Yatsura, in case you're not familiar.
>>288395016Ah, naturally, the flame stopped his lightning.
>>288395026Narrowly avoiding death there... right?
>>288394989>Hiraikotsu jobbing>plus tipThey did Hisui dirty in the manga imo
>>288395041End of chapter. Furinkan notes that: "Shiina has stated he wanted to avoid spoilers and thus thought it was better not to blog this month. However he did say on Twitter before this chapter was released, "The reason why this job was so tough is... I killed the character... I... I... I killed the Rumic character with my own hands... No matter how much I washed them, the ink wouldn't come off...". He added "Well, both Takahashi-sensei and Sumisawa-sensei said it was interesting, and I think people who watched the anime will be like, "Oh, so that's how they arranged that episode," (laughs) so please look forward to next month's issue. However, it was hard for me to draw it because I'm a bit soft on the characters (laughs)."" https://x.com/Takashi_Shiina/status/1793891803344884079https://x.com/Takashi_Shiina/status/1789556292811636880His twitter links. Also, Meidomaru narrowly avoided getting hit in any of his vital organs. I mean, I guess it is a bit more reasonable to survive getting your brain bisected than getting decapitated, but honestly, we had plenty of yokai survive decapitation (it was even a plot point at one point in Chapter 296 of Inuyasha), so it is a bit goofy.
Cover is on the next page. Author's note is spoilered this time since it concerns the contents of the chapter. June 25th, 2024. Author's note:"Hisui-kun was revived safely."
>>288395151Here's the cover. Also, Furinkan decided to just translate the entire blog entry so I'm just going to split it up in like three or so segments and put it in the last few posts of the chapter so as to avoid spoiling anything. Also, hah, I messed up the spoiler last page. Whatever. Sorry, people.
>>288395194You can tell Shiina is feeling it with his redrawing of a panel from Inuyasha. This little baby, Sango's baby. Dead.
>>288395202Hm...
>>288395217There's only so much he's willing to do.

>>288395270!
>>288395300
>>288395330Oh, I want to mention, I do appreciate that the sacrifice mentioned in the last chapter wasn't Rion and Rion's death was essentially a fake out. It made Hisui's death much more shocking.
>>288395357Per Furinkan: ""Well Mr. Shappy? Wait no... Mr. Chaperone?" - In the original Japanese Moroha is speaking to Jaken and calls him confuses the words "omiotsuke" (おみおつけ/miso soup) and "ometsukeyaku" (お目付け役/chaperone)."
>>288395370When put like that, it does make some amount of sense. It is a bit sudden though, undeniably.

>>288395784The hug continues.
>>288395784Seems like giving Tenseiga to Sesshomaru turned out to be the most influential decision made in Inuyasha lore
>>288395795Here's the first part of Shiina's blogpost as translated by Furinkan:"This is the first update in three months, as I've been able to settle a lot of what I wanted to say here by depicting the reunion with Inuyasha, Kagome, and Rin. The story is finally surging towards the final battle. The flow of "Setsuna dies," "she can't be saved by the broken Tenseiga," but "only with Towa's demonic blade" in the anime is a rite of passage for Towa to stand shoulder to shoulder with her father as his successor. However, in the manga, there was no time for the Tenseiga to be broken, so I replaced it with the twins joining forces to evolve the Zanseiken. This condenses the core element of the story, the growth of both twins, and by extension Sesshomaru, into one point. The meaning and role of Hisui and Kohaku accompanying Setsuna is also here, so I decided to have one of them die in place of Setsuna. It is common knowledge for Inuyasha Sherlockians that Kohaku can never come back to life. Hisui is a character born in the final chapter of Inuyasha, so he is also a symbol of the happy ending, and I think, "There's no way he could die!" So this is Hisui's job (is the logical conclusion). Yashahime begins by overturning the happy ending of Inuyasha in a sense, but I accepted this as a theme that "even if that happy ending is on the verge of being destroyed, they will surely manage to repair it." The princesses are not just second-generation characters, but they carry the "feelings of the world and characters of Inuyasha" that we readers have. So in my Yashahime, Hisui is on the verge of death, and the princesses save him." I have to split it up. But yeah, the anime was different apparently but Shiina did clearly take some ideas from it. I do like what he said about what Hisui represents. He was after all the baby we see in Inuyasha's happy ending.
>>288395836More blog post translation:"And another thing, I think Kohaku was able to let go of something with Hisui's death and resurrection. In the manga, Kohaku always seemed to be searching for the "right place to die," but when he saw Hisui's death and cried out, he thought, "even if I can tolerate it myself, I shouldn't allow someone else to feel this way," and finally freed himself from his attachment. Hisui is certainly a symbol of a happy ending, but then you can say the same about Kohaku. I wrote the cry of "after the terrible battles my family has been through, we finally found happiness with you children!" as a line directed directly at himself.Furthermore, if we connect this to the scene with Kirinmaru and Rion, we can see him as "someone who was unable to obtain the same salvation." His motivation of "even destroying the world" is now more convincing. Losing a child is extremely painful, and it's hard to portray that seriously. So as soon as Rion is resurrected, she cheerfully says, "my father is a bad man!" (laughs). The picture that pays homage to Kikyo's resurrection scene seems a little too immoral with Rion's young appearance, but I think that brings out the sinisterness that is characteristic of Sengoku Otogi Zoushi. Takahashi-sensei's style is quite vivid and erotic, but it's amazing how, although the images are quite raw and erotic, there is an aura that says, "accept it without harboring wicked thoughts." This is something that someone like me can't imitate, so I had her wear a hitoe (a traditional Japanese kimono)."Quite some interesting insight in what Shiina thinks of in regards to these old stories (Sengoku Otogi Zoushi).
>>288395784>Their dad is the spirit inside their bladesexcuse me what the fuck this explains SO MUCH
>>288395876Wanted to post it in three chunks, but it seems it'll have to be four. More blog post translation:"I thought the twist of having the Tenseiken, which is a counterpart to the Bakuseiken from the anime version, was a bit interesting. I like the theory from the manga "the combination of the blade that can reach the unreachable and the power to cut the uncuttable". This confirms that the final blow to the Grim Comet will be the twins' combined special attack. It's a bit disappointing that Tenseiga-senpai didn't get to play a part, but at the last minute I came up with the idea of the Tenseiken being Tenseiga-senpai's. If you think about it, those guys talk a lot, don't they? (laughs) In the comicalization, which is closer to a pastiche of Inuyasha than the anime, the weapons are treated as "nostalgic characters" rather than items.Hisui and Setsuna's memories are a contrast between "Sesshomaru, who is fundamentally a monster" and "Setsuna, who is a human at heart," and they depict her strong motivation to "bring him back to life." In the anime, the two only had a vague relationship, but I thought that was necessary for them in the manga world, where their backgrounds and developments have changed. In the end, it was a good choice, as it was well received by Takahashi-sensei."I do like Shiina referencing that aspect of the weapons of Inuyasha. By the end of the series, nearly all the weapons show a lot of personality.
>>288395921End of chapter! More blog post:"The last page shows Moroha already recovered, so I omitted it, but it seems they stayed the night after that. I don't really know what Sesshomaru was doing while waiting. I think he was casually snuggling up to Setsuna and glaring at Hisui the whole time (laughs), but that's up to you in your own mind. Well, anyway, this comicalized adaptation is pretty much (omitted).Well, I think I've done almost everything I need to do before the boss battle in terms of the overall story structure. I want to jump straight into the fight with Kirinmaru from here, but if the final boss is alone in the castle and does everything himself, he doesn't look like much of a big shot. So I've placed Meidomaru as a subordinate, and the mysterious army of Haniwa-faced ladies are taking care of Rion. Considering the balance, I need at least one more mid-boss, and I need to get revenge on Meidomaru... so next time I'll continue with the preliminary battle. In this job, I've been struggling from the beginning to find the optimal solution, but the struggles at the start are fun. In the process of converging the story towards the end, it's a logical battle where you have to be careful not to miss any elements so you don't have any regrets later, but you have to keep the momentum and put it all together." I definitely think the Sesshomaru snuggling bit is Shiina giggling to himself.

I mean, Hiraikotsu (Bone Boomerang) also talks but admittedly, we know whose spirit it contains. I mean, on some level, both of major swords in Inuyasha were part of Toga, right? Like, literally his fang? I feel like his will being in those swords was kind of always a thing.

>>288396892Yeah, Furinkan translated the whole blog post. Let's see if I can fit it in the rest of this chapter:"The story is finally coming to an end, but if Kirinmaru appears as soon as everyone arrives at the castle, I'll have to think to myself, "That's more like a commoner's house than a castle," so I decided to have his subordinates greet everyone. As a result, we'll have a mid-boss battle at this point.Kinka and Ginka were originally a story from Inuyasha, and were inserted into Yashahime along with some other storylines that could not be included in the final anime episodes. From the time of broadcast, I was thinking, "If he appears, it'll be his second appearance in print media, so I want to put a little twist on it in the manga," and initially I had the idea that "he's an oddball in the family and has no intention of fighting, but his mother gets angry at him, so he pretends to be on bad terms in front of others. But the Yashahime and the others find out that it's rigged.""... It seems like you guys aren't fighting seriously." "What are you saying? We don't get along at all, right, brother!" "It's like what my little brother said! We're seriously killing each other! So you guys get out of here already! If we fight any more one of us will end up dying" (laughs)." This may seem irrelevant, but you'll see why he's discussing these two momentarily. Also, Furinkan seems to have translated this a bit wrong. I assume the "he" here is supposed to be "they". Since there's two of them.
>>288396820>あ、あで!? 送り火が効かねえ…I don't actually know enough about Japanese phonetic speech to place it but I do know this isn't proper grammar, so maybe it's supposed to be some rural accent? Like Goku supposedly has in the manga.
>>288396929More blog post translation. I'm not spoilering it, but it relates to some stuff you're about to see."In the end, I decided to make them young female twins based on the female villains from the anime , and to make them mid-bosses, making use of the aforementioned friendly setting. The names Soka and Koka come up immediately, so their speech style can only be "I wonder if so" or "I wonder if so" (laughs). Later, my family pointed out to me that there is a mob character in the anime Revolutionary Girl Utena who speaks like that, but I didn't watch it so I didn't know much about it. Well, even if readers think "That's Utena!", I think it's good to have the atmosphere of the '90s to 2000s anime from the time of Inuyasha... well, I haven't watched Utena so I don't really know. I do know the theme song, which is cool and straightforward, though. The kappa that appeared at the beginning was designed based on the one that appeared as a mob character in Inuyasha. I wanted to move the story forward quickly, so I didn't intend to introduce a character like that there. But for some reason, a warning came from my subconscious that "I can't move forward unless I change the rhythm," and I had no choice but to follow it. Even now , I think in my head, "No, it would be quicker to leave this part out and introduce Meidomaru right away, right?" , but from experience, it's usually better to follow your intuition in these situations. I wonder, maybe it's because the depiction makes you feel the depth of Kirinmaru's organization... Japanese monsters are not just scary or strong, but also "weird neighbors". Also, this might be more Rumic-like than a series of formulaic battles." I have no idea what "I wonder if so" or the other one is supposed to be. I would check the blog, but it is down. Here are the links anyway (I forgot to link last time).https://cnanews.asablo.jp/blog/2024/06/https://cnanews.asablo.jp/blog/2024/07/
>>288396887>Given the events of the previous chapters, this does seem a bit foolish. But I don't tend to think in power levels.it's fine, Kohaku was obviously holding back mentally despite being at full power
>>288396960One last bit of blog post:"Kohaku's actions were also unexpected this time around. The original plan was for it to be "Kouka and Souka" vs "Yashahime" and "Meidomaru vs "The Demon Slayers and Kirara" , but because of the kappa, all the members except Kohaku went to Kouka and Souka, and I was confused as to what to do, but I left it to the characters and continued drawing, and it seems that this is a chapter in which Kohaku overcomes his past. Although his life was saved at the end of Inuyasha, there is no way that his emotional wounds would heal so easily after that. In the manga adaptation, I've been focusing on that aspect of his character. It may be typical of this manga to complement the "process of becoming the anime version with the village headman's personality" that was left to the viewer's imagination. That said, the line "I will kill the Naraku inside me here today" is quite in line with the character of Kohaku in the original work, and I was surprised myself. I timidly showed it to Rumiko Takahashi-sensei and she said it was interesting, so I thought I just had to make up my mind and draw it (laughs). So, in the next issue we will tackle this by adding more pages."Also, a Furinkan note: "In Kohaku's comment about Naraku there can be a double-meaning. Naraku refers to the villain of Inuyasha but it also means "hell", so "the hell inside me".">>288396949Makes sense. Thanks for the quote.
>>288396991!!
>>288396998End of chapter. Furinkan has a final note here: "Kouka (紅禍) and Souka (蒼禍) are obviously influenced by Kinka and Ginka. Their names mean "red wickedness" and "blue wickedness" respectively." Furinkan also says this is the last chapter of Volume 8, which it isn't, so I have to scramble and read the next chapter and then check Furinkan's notes for it.
>>288397019This volume is filled with jobbing lmao

>>288397139Oh yeah, cover's on this page.
>>288397143Recap for people who don't remember them in Inuyasha. Or the Yashahime anime, I guess.
>>288397149
>>288397158So, obviously we got a bit of a gag going here but I do appreciate the brutality of this scenario.
>>288397171Not unwilling to make a gag with it too.
>>288397187
>>288397171>>288397187>Shiina makes an incest/siscon jokeHe knows his audience way too well.
>>288397195Same elemental specialties as the ones we know from Inuyasha.
>>288397219You know, given how the Ka operate, you'd think the ones that are solo would be more powerful but then again, maybe the whole idea behind it is some sort of flawed cultural thing than a true biological reality.
>>288397236
>>288397219This isn't surprising. The Yashahime anime literally just had the brothers appear again, despite them being dead.
>>288397246
>>288397236I think the two are intended to be a parallel to Towa and Setsuna so them having good teamwork makes sense in that context.
>>288397257...>>288397247Wait, they appeared again after the first appearance (which had gone unadapted by the anime at that point)?
>>288397273I appreciate Shiina addressing this more with Kohaku. Kohaku's story in Inuyasha was mainly about finding peace with guilt, not overcoming trauma. The distinction seems minor, but I think the trauma of the whole affair was definitely not the focus. There just was limited time for it.
>>288397303...
>>288397311Got to me. Because of course it did. I'll be posting Furinkan's translation of the blog post in a bit, but I don't think you need to have read it to see this as coming from a fan.
>>288397311Chad Naraku returns
>>288397329
>>288397338
>>288397273Yeah the anime had them show up and recontextualized their whole arc around the twins to make the snake brothers tragic for some reason. The mother featured here >>288397171 was a new character introduced for it to be the real villain of the episode. It sucked.Nikosen also got a filler episode since his arc was never adapted too.
>>288397346I wonder if this line is accurately translated. Because it is a funny bit of time to use for a fight that theoretically was too fast to see in some ways. I wouldn't think too hard about it.
>>288397372
>>288397381
>>288397388!!
>>288397420We were just talking about Bone Boomerang talking. Hiraikotsu. Whatever.
>>288397436I just realized Shiina ignored the little chip in the Bone Boomerang that showed up when Hisui died. Whatever! Also, these two have the same thing that the other two had where the tails are basically as long as you need them to be for a scene to work. It always felt pretty goofy.
>>288397463
>>288397372>へ?四半刻もかかってないんだぞ?>Huh? It hasn't even taken a quarter-koku, you know?A "koku" was an old Japanese measurement of time, equating to two modern hours. So yeah, seems it's accurate.
>>288397477Good gag with the Kirara whisper, Shiina.
>>288397488I checked because I forgot but Kinka did have a conch thing for his fire powers. Ginka had the ... pentadent? I don't know what this weapon is called and don't want to check if I had a better term during the Inuyasha story time. The two brothers also had shields, which these two don't have.
>>288397557
>>288397567Pew.>>288397486Ah. Well, good to know. Though, I was googling and isn't ittoki 2 hours while koku was about 14.4 minutes? Koku being a day divided by 100? Like, wouldn't that be like, 3 and a half minutes? That seems to make more sense to me.
>>288397638Uh oh. >>288397638Oh, nope. That's bull. Sorry. I got confused.
>>288397660Oh hey, I just realized, Ikkoku. Maison Ikkoku. I like, knew the meaning of it but I didn't connect these two ideas. Anyway, just to clarify, the 14.4 minutes thing is the old Chinese unit of time that just used the same character (刻).

>>288397712...
>>288397746...
>>288397756Could not go on.
>>288397765So, not to interrupt this. But I will be posting the translated blog post from Furinkan:"What did you think of Kohaku and Naraku's "other conclusion"? I wish there were a few more pages, but since this comicalization is based on Yashahime, this balance of Inuyasha material might be good as is. While making the structure more compact for the manga, I also subtly added in the epilogue elements of Inuyasha, which they tried to avoid as much as possible in the anime, along with my personal interpretations and wishes... it's not that subtle, though. I always go all out.The story doesn't say a word about why the feathers were suddenly fluttering down, but anyone who knows what they are will understand... I'm sure. Of course I know what it's all about when I drew it, so I was crying while I was drawing it (;∀;).Rumiko Takahashi-sensei said, “When I wrote the line, ‘I am the wind, the free wind,’ I foresaw Kagura's death. By using the same line as Kohaku's power, I felt like I was able to give them both a loving hug. Technically, I'm creating a story with the same structure in my own manga, but to be able to do something like this officially, in a work I was reading as a fan and with the original author's check is like magic. The magic of going two-dimensional, that's what comicalization is."https://cnanews.asablo.jp/blog/2024/08/I appreciate Shiina doing this and find it absolutely adorable that he was crying too. I mean, it is true, it wasn't subtle but I did appreciate it. Also, Furinkan has a note to explain it if you don't get it:"Kohaku's comment that "true strength is free, like the wind. I'll become the wind. Free as the wind!" is a reference to Kagura's quote before her death."
>>288397802More translation of the blog post:"When Takahashi-sensei wrote the chapter of Kinka and Ginka, she was probably imagining a certain story from a certain classic science fiction manga. In old manga, it was a rule that "twin enemies" always appeared at least once, and I remember that they were often good storylines in which you could tell they were the losers from the moment they appeared, but the bond between them and their partner was impressive. So, I aimed for a similar sinister yet sad feeling for the conclusion of the battle between Souka and Kouka... although after I finished it, I felt that the image of Aura from Frieren: Beyond Journey's End was also included (laughs). It's hard to depict decapitation in TV anime these days, but I did it a few times in this manga because I thought it would be appropriate for a Sengoku period drama. The Sengoku Otogi world of Inuyasha often depicts the existence of vivid violence. Even so, Kagome-chan doesn't let it bother her even after experiencing something scary, and she remains calm, which is what makes it an excellent dark fantasy for light readers. I think this sense of balance between reality and fiction is the true essence of Rumiko Takahashi-sensei's work, and even though I can't do the same thing, I try my best to create the atmosphere of a sister work by decapitating heads and gouging out eyes and hearts."My memory of Kinka and Ginka is not the best, but I do remember there being some element of tragedy to it. I don't know if it was as extreme as this though. Also, man, that Frieren scene really stuck with people. I read the manga and the anime must've added some juice to it, because I wouldn't think we'd be chatting about it today.
>>288397827Final bit of the blog post. It is just Shiina talking about some gruesome realities of the time period."By the way, in the Sengoku period, it was the job of the women guarding the home front to clean up the captured heads of enemy generals. The enemy's head was proof of military success, and the reward was determined by the rank of the defeated enemy, so there were apparently various tips and techniques for making it look good at the military awards meeting. I've heard that people sometimes even read fortunes from the expressions on the face of the deceased, which is a very different experience from the modern era, and I couldn't imagine living there. Still, if you could find a strong and cute half-demon lover to protect you, you'd have a chance (a real maiden at heart)."

>>288397874End of chapter, end of volume. Thanks for reading! Good stuff. I liked this one. It obviously couldn't hit me as hard as the last one but I thought it was solid, even if there was a lot of just action stuff. Feel free to use the thread to discuss anything Yashahime (or Inuyasha) related. I have some stuff I'll posting here and there to bump the thread.I will be dumping volume 9 on Thursday. I hope to see you there. Though I need to see if I can find a scan of the volume rather than magazine rips. I'll look around. And then of course, for the 10th one, we're just going to have to deal with magazine rips.

>>288397892Thanks for the dump OP.I personally take issue with the translation on this final page. “You haven’t changed a lick, have you?” Is okay, but the RAWs say:> …はは!! (Haha!!)>その目— (Those eyes—)>あの日と変わらぬなぁ、小僧。(Those eyes are just the same as they were that day, boy.)It’s a direct callback to the glare Sesshōmaru gave him when they first met, but the translation makes that unclear.

Commentary Start!>>288393159>>288393251>Miroku heartbroken over Inuyasha keeping shit from him and not trusting him as well as Sango overjoyed to the point of tears over Kagome’s returnIf there’s one thing I appreciate about Shiina is that he kept IC the Inugang’s strong bond of friendship, it really pissed me the fuck off how blase Sumisawa made MirSan over InuKag’s resulting disappearance and subsequent return in the Yashahime anime, shame he couldn’t also keep them in-character regarding the Sessrin ship.>>288393282>Sessmom kicked out InuKag cause they’re the remnants of Toga’s affairOOC count number 14! Sessmom in the original couldn’t seem to care less over her husband’s indiscretions, which I always took to mean their marriage was purely a political arranged thing and they were never romantically involved.>>288393341>Kagura mentionedThis’ll trigger the Sessrincels, kek!>>288393551>Moroha being so non-chalant and cheerful over KikyoI won’t say this is OOC perse since Moroha is a new character and all, but idk it still feels off… If she knows enough about the Kikyo backstory to refer to her as her dad’s ex then she must also know how much that whole “love triangle” used to hurt her mother and cause her pain. Considering this I would expect her to take way more of a defensive and hostile stance towards Kikyo for the sake of her mother’s honor, especially since Moroha seems even closer to Kagome than she is Inuyasha in the manga as another anon noted a few threads ago. Not to mention the fact that if she knows enough about Kikyo then she must also know that Kikyo originally tried to guilt-trip her father and drag him to hell with her, so Kikyo was a threat to her impending existence all-around so shouldn’t she have more negative feelings towards her just based off of that?
>>288393551That being said I’m really not a fan of Shiina bringing back Kikyo here even if it’s not “really” her, it feels like a cheap attempt at fanservice and dredging up the whole “love triangle” aspect of the series when it should be good and buried considering InuKag have been married for years now and have a teenage daughter. Considering that beautiful final sendoff Kikyo had in the original that should’ve been the end of it, and any attempts to bring her back in any way feels like beating a dead horse in the ground. Shiina should’ve just left her in flashback form like he did for Kagura and Naraku, but something tells me this is more Sumisawa’s doing since the only thing he loved more than wanking off and venerating Sesshomaru was exaggerating and putting a hyper-focus on the love triangle any chance he could get. Manga readers will correctly point out that the whole InuKagKik love triangle isn’t nearly as bad in the manga as it is in the anime, and they would be right.>>288395517>Hisui doesn’t look that much older than SetsunaConfirmed for Sesshomaru having impregnated Rin before she turned 18!>>288395786>giving Setsuna's love interest some actual weight behind it unlike the anime which just said 'yeah Hisui and Setsuna exist next to each other so I guess they're a thing'Yeah, Shiina definitely seems to have developed both the Ritowa and Setsui ships much better than the anime, I’ll give him that.
>>288395836>The flow of "Setsuna dies," "she can't be saved by the broken Tenseiga," but "only with Towa's demonic blade" in the anime Yeah, one major change between the versions is that in the anime it’s Setsuna the one that gets killed and then revived by Tenseiga whereas here it’s Hisui, I do have to admit I much prefer the manga’s version since it gives Kohaku some much needed involvement and development and also serves to help develop Setsuna and Hisui’s relationship, Setsuna being the one to die in the anime just resulted in more of a Towa wankfest.>>288395876>The picture that pays homage to Kikyo's resurrection scene seems a little too immoral with Rion's young appearanceAre we really that surprised considering the Sessrin ship and how both Shiina and Sumisawa try to depict her as young and childish as possible even as an “adult?” This is an entire fanfiction conceived by lolicons.>>288396760>Towa and Setsuna get love interests but not Moroha, the actual canon character.I can smell your blatant favoritism a mile away Sumisawa… Moroha deserved a love interest too, preferably the son of Koga for the ultimate irony and keks to be had.>>288397187>Towa: “I love my sister too but not to that extent.”Another major difference between the anime and manga is that in the anime Towa was actually a major siscon, to the point it was pretty much her only personality trait. Here though she’s not obsessed with Setsuna at all.
>>288397215>Shiina makes an incest/siscon jokeAnd Rumiko approved it, further proof that Sesshomaru was always meant to be a fathercon since she seems to have no problems with same-sex incest at least. (Based and correct! Opposite sex BR incest is a disgusting abomination however).Annd commentary done! Not as much to say this volume since it was mostly just battling and the OG characters weren’t as featured as much so less OOC flaws to highlight. I trust that they’ll probably be back next volume however.>>288399415>golly I can’t wait to see the fujo having another schizo meltdown just because the most popular character was allowed to be cool this volumeSesshomaru’s only worth anything if he’s gay and panders to the fujo audience, make him straight and he’s nothing but a cringe edgelord Gary Stu.>>288400319>Yup yup, as expected of THE STRONGEST!Stfu Sumisawa

>>288401772>Sesshomaru’s only worth anything if he’s gay and panders to the fujo audience, make him straight and he’s nothing but a cringe edgelord Gary Stu.you certainly did not disappoint in the schizo meltdown department
>>288402955True, though most of that was with him firing big kamehameha's with his sword. Shiina seems less eager to do that for some reason even though Sesshomaru basically spammed it back then. Not that I'm complaining. Sesshomaru was always said to be a master swordsman but we rarely got to see him actually use it like a sword. So it's a refreshing change of pace.

The fact that Kohaku does it later does kind of throw a wrench in it, but taking the chapter at face value, it wasn't just about being overpowered. But I have no doubt in my mind that Sessh would win if collateral damage was not a concern. >>288400900Oh good catch, how embarrassing. It has been a bit. Yeah, you're correct on both fronts. Shiina definitely remembered and definitely was referencing that. I admittedly teased the Shishinki bisection in Inuyasha too, I'm almost certain. >>288401463Shiina seems to be taking the interpretation that Sesshomaru's mother just acts unbothered. As for Moroha, I don't think she "must also know" anything. Her info comes from Kaede and I doubt Kaede got into all that. Shiina's been pretty good about the new characters having gaps in their knowledge and not acting like they read Inuyasha. Hell, we've even seen an example where Rin talked about Sesshomaru and Kagome thought about all the times he tried to kill her and didn't say anything. I am certain most tales of the past were focused on the good. >>288401759The tree Kikyo was definitely the anime, from what people told me here. Though I think Shiina did show some restraint.

>>288404267>The fact that Kohaku does it later does kind of throw a wrench in itTo be fair looking at Meidomaru vs Kohaku has Kohaku pretty much completely psyching Meidomaru out by the fact that he wasn't even acknowledging him while they fought. I assume the term space-time might've been even more sci-fi sounding in the original Japanese, but Rin could easily be unfamiliar even with a more common term. The kanji used specifically are “時空” which does just bluntly translate to “space-time” but is typically used to refer to the entire space-time continuum as a whole. It was explicitly stated, even more when Tessaiga broke and had to use Inuyasha's own tooth. The blades were made from papa dog's fangs
>>288413130yeah but it's handled much better
>>288413285>speedreading Inuyasha this hardInuyasha's and Sesshomaru's swords were always shown to be sentient, but it was never stated what the sentience behind them actually was. This is the first hard confirmation that it is specifically Toga's spirit inside them both.
>>288413034>In the panels with all three of them, they look the same to me.Sango looks wider and chunkier compared to her og slim look. And I think noticeable taller than Kagome now.

>>288404319Just ignoring them worked pretty well last thread, and they've basically outed themselves as actively hating Sesshomaru as a character on a fundamental level so none of their bias will ever be constructive.TLDR ignore them and they will go away

>>288409857>AnnieI wonder how many of the Sessrincels are troons vs actual women (female)? Something tells me the majority of them are trannies since Sessrin is a ship that would only appeal to perverted men while real women such as myself either fujoship Sesshomaru, ship SessKagu or SessKik for the het options that make sense, OR ship SessKag for the self-insert fantasy. The only “women” that would unironically self-insert into Rin are AGP pedo troons who get off over imagining themselves as a little girl because lolicon anime brainrotted them, this demographic will also only play video games where they can play as the cute loli such as Neptunia, Atelier and other Moe-style games.>>288412678>pity panelIs that what you call Rumiko dressing up Rin in Kagura’s kimono for her first and only Sessrin drawing?

>>288397143I love when the girls' fangies are showing. It's like, a sort of pseudo transformation, almost? First their fangs show, then their eyes get slitted. Bro went Ultra Instinct.I guess it makes sense, one way to completely throw a mind reader off while fighting them is to not even think about them or the fight in the slightest. Doesn't help that this guy seems really prideful. Also Naraku looks SO GOOD here.>"True Strength is Free, like the Wind."Oh...>>288397329>"I'll become the Wind.
