The weirdest thing about Hinata is how Kishimoto would have her have these nominally important moments with Naruto, then immediately toss her back into the Tenten corner for hundreds of chapters. In the Chunnin exams she served as a big part of Naruto's motivation for the fight with Neji, Hyuga clan politics were introduced and the scene at the training field before the tournament served to set up their future interactions. Then almost immediately after Naruto beats Neji Hiashi stops being a complete asshole, and by the time of SRA Neji is a happy little cuck for the main branch, while Hinata just disappears until Pain attacks Konoha. Kishimoto probably thought he was writing some really captivating romance when he had her do her little speech, then get instakilled, but the speech is NEVER BROUGHT UP AGAIN. Naruto never acknowledges it, the plot gets lost in the sauce and Hinata goes back into the Tenten corner until the THIS IS WAR arc, where Kishimoto decided to finally address all the Hyuga stuff!...by killing Neji as a joke (a fucking piece of wood), rewriting Hizashi into a happy cuck, Hiashi into a loving brother/uncle (super loving wifi lobotomies for the side branch) and Hinata just repeats her shit from the Pain arc, only to once again be ignored.Genuinely what leads an author to do this shit?
