Alright, it is Thursday and I am gonna post the tenth volume of Yashahime Princess Half-Demon. Feel free to react or comment on any panel, though I appreciate if image replies are not used during the dump. Feel free to discuss anything related to Yashahime (or Inuyasha) after the dump.

Yashahime was initially created as an anime-only sequel to Inuyasha by Sunrise. The designs of the main cast were provided by Rumiko Takahashi. I have not watched the anime. The manga adaptation was made after the first season and was written and drawn by Takashi Shiina, the creator of Ghost Sweeper Mikami and most likely the biggest Rumiko Takahashi fan in the world. As such, I decided to read and story time this series as well. My commentary will be sparse as I am completely new to the series, but I hope you enjoy the look into Shiina's take on the Inuyasha world.

Previous thread: >>288531827

I will be using the official localization of the manga by VIZ. Be aware that some of the larger images may have been edited to be lower quality due to image size limits. Unfortunately, my source of the scans does not have Vol. 9-10 and I didn't want to take a quality hit, so I am going to use worse image of the cover and use the VIZ localized version of the individual chapters for the final two volumes. I apologize.

Hi! I saw that, but I assumed they were just making a joke since there hasn't been any more volumes of MAO released (pretty much). I'm done! I got nothing left to dump until MAO's completed (I honestly never planned on dumping an ongoing series in the first place) or I decide to redo my Urusei Yatsura dump. I think I'm going to hold off on redoing my UY dump since otherwise, I'd basically be just restarting and I would end up going forever. I do wish those earlier threads were a bit cleaner and had more interesting commentary, but that's how it goes.

Alright, let's squeeze in Shiina's blog post. Split over multiple posts. Furinkan's translation.

"The final battle takes place in a certain tower, in keeping with the anime. In the anime, there is a wide scaffolding on the upper floor, and the princesses are stationed there. After looking into it, I found that there is no structure like that in reality. Please understand that "the building in the story is fictional, with the scaffolding on top of the digital terrestrial broadcasting antenna."

Although the storyline in which the dome stadium in Tokyo was cut, I found a spot where the dome can be seen from the Shuto Expressway when I checked Google Maps, so I briefly depicted it there. By the way, Moroha's line "It's not peaceful" is a little joke that references the voice actor and Sunrise's work. Also, Ikkoku-kan makes a cameo appearance (?) in the confusion, and the actual location is said to be an image of Higashi-Nagasaki, where Rumiko Takahashi-sensei lived at the time, so it would be strange for it to appear when the attack is heading towards the city center from Nerima. However, I couldn't help but include it even though I was worried that Takahashi-sensei might get angry at me, which is my complicated fanboy mentality."

More blog post, translated by Furinkan:

"If the Earth is the size of a soccer ball, the Moon is about the size of a tennis ball, with an orbital radius of about 7 meters. It's surprisingly far away. But on a cosmic scale, another small celestial body passing that distance is a near miss. If they get that close over a period of several hundred years, it seems like a collision would be inevitable over a span of hundreds of millions of years, but I guess that's what's made it work with the divine powers of Amaterasu. I interpreted the fact that it "appears above Japan" as being made possible by some spiritual mechanism, and that's why the setting for the Grim Comet is like that. I connected that to the logic that "cutting off the connection will make it work somehow."

Towa-chan needs to wear her original suit in the final battle, so she changed in the car. And then I realized that if I went with the flow of the manga, I could draw "Riku fighting in a suit" (laughs)."

More blog post translation by Furinkan. Spoiled the stuff pertaining to next chapter.

"Although it's a bit forced, preparations are complete for the all-star cast to gather at the climax. It looks like we'll be able to land the story in a way that's close to the anime. However, in the comicalization, Sango-sama is set to be 3-4 months pregnant, so even though her belly isn't that noticeable, I can't let her go on a rampage. So, I thought of a projectile to replace the "Black Hiraikotsu", but the idea I'm currently working on is a literal projectile, or rather, it's a bit of a foul play, so I'm not sure if it's okay until I actually draw it. So, whether I use it or not, I'll tell you the details next time.

Oh, that's right, last time it was Inuyasha sleeping in the futon next to Kagome. I drew it thinking that they were a married couple, so of course they were sleeping with their pillows side by side, but later my family said to me, "No, this also looks like a depiction of Rin-chan being there," and I was like, "Ah" (laughs). It was a rare opportunity to casually depict daily life after Inuyasha, but what a jerk I was."

I do like that Shiina acknowledged it is a bit forced, but I mean, that's just how it is. Some clichés are okay, right? Took me a bit to understand what he was talking about with the last bit, but basically, we see Kagome wake up in a futon with an empty spot next to her. And then she goes outside and asks Inuyasha if he's seen Rin. So yeah, muddled it a bit.

Alright, let's post the Shiina blogpost. Translated by Furinkan, splitting over multiple posts.

"So, I decided that the weapon that Sango used to replace the "Black Hiraikotsu" from the anime version would be Ginkotsu-senpai. To be precise, it's just the shell of Ginkotsu.

I had been thinking about whether I could touch on the Band of Seven at least briefly somewhere. But if I did, their characters would have stood out too much and it would have ruined the flow of the story of Yashahime, so this appearance was the limit for me, sorry. I don't think the fans were expecting Ginkotsu (laughs), but I thought it would be a good cameo appearance for a demon exterminator, touching on the past of that world where there was a battle with them, in a setting that seemed plausible.

Actually, a few chapters ago, when Towa and the others were chasing Riku back to the present, I had the idea that they would get lost in a space-time rift and go to the past, briefly breaking into the world of Inuyasha (that would allow for various past characters, including the Band of Seven, to appear, or even have them interact with their parents from the past and play at Back to the Future. At the end, Kanna would guide them with her mirror and they would return to the future), and so on. I was excited for a moment as the fan-made dreams unfolded. But this comicalization is based on the anime Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon, and my mission is to reconstruct it compactly as a manga. It's been quite a while since the anime ended, and I thought it would be too much of a hassle to take such an interesting detour instead of heading straight for the conclusion, so I gave up."

Man, he almost went full fanfiction there. Would've been something. Certainly would've lasted a lot longer.

More translation of the blog post:

"I think the plot of overlapping battles from two different eras and locations into one is not a bad shortcut to the story, but when I actually drew it, I realized that the tempo got worse because I had to explain it every time the scene changed, so I had a hard time with the rough drafts. I came up with an approach where the characters are beaten one after another without knowing why, from the perspective of the Grim Comet, and I managed to get it just right. I wanted Rin-chan to play an important role, so I put her sniper shot at the end to manipulate the impression that it was the final blow. In reality, the Ginkotsu Cannon was probably the fatal blow (laughs). I was also happy to be able to draw the coordinated attack of Inuyasha and Kagome, the main characters of the original series.

After all that, Rumiko Takahashi-sensei said, "It was momentous and amusing," and I managed to clear the last challenging part, the climax festival battle event where all the stars appear. The next chapter will be the conclusion of the relationship between Sesshomaru and Kirinmaru.

It looks like the story will be able to continue right up to the final scene, "while the details have been reconstructed to make it something completely different, the framework remains similar to the anime.""

I think Furinkan may have mistranslated something here? But yeah. I find it funny that he thinks Ginkotsu was the fatal blow and not Inuyasha's attack, but it is a big cannon, I guess. Eat that up, powerscalers.

Oh, Furinkan also mentioned some tweets by Shiina around this time.

"Shiina explained that Ginkotsu was a character he particularly liked during Inuyasha on his Twitter account. He explained that the character reminded him of someone from Kamen no Ninja Akakage (仮面の忍者・赤影) He humorously added that he felt that he was the only one that could replace Sango's black Hiraikotsu. Further he stated, "I remember that when firing, Sango said "Rampage!" and it made me sad. No, it was a joke in the character song. Those who know will know." This is a reference to the character song "Abarero!!" by Bankotsu and Jakotsu."

I think I can post the blog post now. Furinkan's translation, split over multiple posts.

"What did you think of the end of the battle between Kirinmaru and Sesshomaru, which was finally depicted?

The anime focused primarily on the story of the Yashahime, minimizing the fact that it was a sequel to Inuyasha, but the comicalization was reconstructed as a derivative work of an Inuyasha spin-off, with Sesshomaru at the core. While it depicts the growth of the daughters as the main characters, it is actually also a story of Sesshomaru's growth. So the story ended with a one-on-one battle between Sesshomaru and Kirinmaru. I thought that the presentation of "a battle that is decided with one blow, and for a moment it looks like the enemy has won, but in fact the main character has won" was a very cliched element that I've seen countless times since I was a child, but that was the only option here...or rather, I couldn't think of anything better, so I went with the cliched approach.

The relationship between Rion and Kirinmaru was simplified and abbreviated. By simply saying that he had lost his mind and become a villain, a number of pages was saved, but he may have become a little weak as a villain. The power relationship between Kirinmaru and Sesshomaru has been reversed in many ways since the end of the anime, but it adds depth and a different direction, such as "Kirinmaru was also one of the family members that Sesshomaru wanted to save" and "He was someone he admired as a boy and compared him to his late father." It also has more of an appeal as a sequel to the anime original masterpiece "Swords of an Honorable Ruler," so this is good in its own way. Also, I was amused by the very minor detail that "Kirinmaru punches Kirin-sensei" was changed to "Sesshomaru punches Kirinmaru," but maybe it's too minor and doesn't matter (laughs)."

Appreciate that he calls himself out for the cliche. And Kirinmaru being meh.

Other half of blog post:

"My favorite scene this time was not even the duel or the ending, but rather "Jaken talking about his feelings for Sesshomaru." The meeting between the two was depicted in an original episode of the TV anime version of Inuyasha, and the flashback of him receiving the Staff of Two Heads at the waterfall was picked up from there. In the anime, it's depicted a little comically, with Jaken saying things like "He's so handsome!!" but it's so emotional that he says, "I met the angel of slaughter on the battlefield, and fell in love at first sight with his strength and beauty, and I threw everything away and dedicated my life to him." It was a joy for me as a Jaken and Kohaku fan to be able to add Kohaku, who gently stands by the elderly Jaken as he talks about his feelings. It's a small scene, but it's filled with respect for Sumisawa-sensei, who skillfully delved into the world of Rumiko Takahashi-sensei's Sengoku Otogi Zoushi, and my love for the characters. Just like Sesshomaru-sama in the series, I also follow in the footsteps of Takahashi-sensei and Sumisawa-sensei.

Well, with this, all the battles in the story have been settled. Next time, there will be an extra page, epilogue part 1, set in the present day. The storyboard turned out better than I expected, and I received praise from Rumiko Takahashi-sensei and my editor, so please look forward to it."

Oh and Swords of an Honorable Ruler is the third Inuyasha movie. I haven't seen it. It is the film where Toga's human form is depicted (designed by Rumiko Takahashi). I also think that's when he is named.

I think I can start posting Shiina's blog post. Translated by Furinkan, split over multiple posts.

"As this is effectively the final chapter, the story could have ended here without any problems.

By making Riku and Kirin-sensei the same individual, an option arises for Riku and Towa to live in the present day. The reason I had the pool monster from Urusei Yatsura make a cameo appearance in the sea scene is to allow readers to imagine that "while the Yashahime and Riku are in the present day, there will be many lively and fun adventures." Since it's a monster, it doesn't destroy the worldview... I think. I also wanted to draw a school arc, so the title page is an illustration to represent that.

Towa and Setsuna live in Sota's apartment, Moroha and Riku live in the Higurashi household, and Riku seems to have been helping and taking care of grandpa. Although Moe-Mama in the manga world is not a professional musician, I thought "maybe she graduated from music college and is a teacher or something?", so I mixed in some scenes of her playing instruments. I had previously drawn Setsuna's violin on the cover, so I thought it was fine, but I thought the electronic violin was fresh, so I used it. Towa plays the melodica, thinking "Should I play a flute like in the anime? If there's one in this house, it's a flute? But it's hard to play, right?" Playing the violin is difficult, too (laughs), but unlike Towa, who has become a little blunter after coming into contact with modern common sense during her growth, Setsuna has the undiluted cheat protagonist correction power that the inhabitants of the fairy tale world have...or so I interpret it. So she can play it at first sight."

Funny reasoning for her picking up the violin like a natural. Those stories do often go that route.

More blog post. Translated by Furinkan. I forgot to post the link. Also, the final bit is about the last page of this chapter, so I guess I'll post it on the last page.

"I decided that the route back would be the Bone-Eater's Well. I didn't completely omit the setting of Akuru from the anime version, who opened the way in exchange for his life, but rather split it into the Tree of Ages and the windmill. If you could travel back and forth between time and space so easily, the foundation of the story world would crumble, so I think the contextual structure that something has to be sacrificed for that is correct. So meta-wise, the disappearance of the Tree of Ages is a substitute for Akuru. In addition, I also constructed a logic that "due to the scheme of the Tree of Ages, the only way for Akuru to get the windmill back was to retrieve the Yashahime from the future," and in fact this is written in Kagome's letter to Towa... but I decided to omit it all because I thought it would be better to devote pages to the description of the main characters rather than explaining it. At the very least, you can understand that "they were able to return because of the power of the windmill."

As a result, the scene where Sesshomaru re-enacts the last scene from Inuyasha turned out quite well. Rather than a sci-fi-like manga logic, the time travel is based on the sentimental theme of "If you believe and love with all your heart, the world of fairy tales will welcome you," and Sesshomaru embodies this by coming to welcome you...isn't this the dream of every Inuyasha fan? No matter what anyone says, this is the only depiction that will be used in the manga...well, it's no good if Rumiko Takahashi-sensei says it's not okay. But I was happy that I got the okay and was praised.
(*^_^*)"

So, the logic he says is sound, but it would've eaten up some pages for little gain.

I was going to post this with the last post, but it was too much. More blog post.

"Moroha's luggage was originally going to be the backpack Kagome used to carry. But it was more interesting to make it huge so it's easy to see, and I also wanted to give Kagome a lot of supplies before we say goodbye, so that's how it is. It's rude to point out that "there's no way you can fit that through the well." But we made it much smaller so that it was just within the limits of acceptable fiction with digital adjustments. If we'd made it a size that you could actually fit through, it would have been too small and boring, so there was no point."

End of chapter! Here's that final bit from Shiina's blog.

"I was worried about the last page, wondering if it would be better to end with Sesshomaru flying off into the sky. However, I chose to end it from the perspective of the Higurashi family, who were left behind. Since I started this comicalization with the idea of "I want to draw it as my work that speaks of my love for Rumiko Takahashi-sensei's works," it was right for me to end the story from the perspective of the real world, not the world of Otogi-zoshi world. However, that would force the reader to end it from the perspective of the "left behind," which is a pretty bitter ending. When I thought, "What should I do... it's practically the final chapter...", I realized, "Well, the next episode is the final chapter, so it's okay to end it bitterly here." In other words, the actual final chapter is not necessarily the final chapter, but it is an chapter that shows the possibility that such an ending is possible.

So next installment will be the true final chapter! There will be no secret final chapter or new final installment. While there will be some adjustments, the comicalization will generally follow the same outline as the anime, and it will end in line with the flow of the anime. We'll stick to that style until the very end, with lots of little adjustments thrown in, so please look forward to the finished product!"

Oh and I have a Furinkan note regarding twitter:

"In subsequent tweets after the publication of this chapter but prior to the final chapter's release Shiina stated, "The final chapter of Yashahime was so much fun to draw. I think it's good for manga artists to draw some kind of comicalization on a regular basis. At least for me, I feel like something is fulfilled when I do an adaptation." and further added, "It'll be sad to say goodbye to Inuyasha and the others once this is completed, but even though he's the son of Rumiko Takahashi-sensei, we've been working together for three and a half years.""

The final volume of the manga, the final eight chapters, will be released on August 18th (Monday)!! Please look forward to Takashi Shiina-sensei's next work."

The title of the chapter "See You Tomorrow" (また明日/Mata Ashita) is a call back to the final chapter of Inuyasha, simple called "Tomorrow" (明日/Ashita)."

But the final volume didn't have 8 chapters. Maybe this is why Furinkan was confused? Anyway, moving on.

Alright, now seems like a good time to start posting Shiina's blogpost. Translated by Furinkan, split across multiple posts.

"I think the final chapter is structured pretty close to the original anime. I don't need to explain the arrangements here, but I think you'll understand my intentions and the amount I put into it.

That said, "Not only the daughters, but Sesshomaru and Rin also go on a honeymoon (?)"... this was actually something I didn't expect. I wanted to end it with a line that was similar to Kagome's in the final chapter of Inuyasha, saying "Sesshomaru has ended the time loop and is walking towards a new tomorrow," and "He will build that new tomorrow with Rin," and as I was directing the conversation in that direction, that couple ended up going on a trip too.

On the one hand, I thought, "It ends with a boy and girl setting off into the future, as is typical in a shonen manga, but the parents who are supposed to see them off also set off into the future, which is a pattern you don't see very often (laughs)," but on the other hand, I'm excited that Sesshomaru, Rin, and Jaken-sama's journey is about to begin again. Well, while depicting the tale of Yashahime's coming of age, the underlying theme was Sesshomaru's youth and growth, so this might be okay... and so the comicalization ends with a double departure."

More blog post translation.

"Personally, I think I did a pretty good job all the way through. Of course, when I reread it, I have regrets about various imperfections and shortcomings, but I did my best to draw it given the conditions I was in at the time, so now I feel a great sense of accomplishment having completed it to the end.

It's impossible to get everyone to agree on the interpretation of someone else's intellectual property, so I apologize to those who didn't like it. After many twists and turns, the anime project turned out to be what it was, and I put in what I wanted to do as long as it didn't destroy the general framework, and put it together as a manga, which was approved by Rumiko Takahashi-sensei. At the very least, it is in line with the shared tastes of Takahashi-sensei, Sumisawa-san, myself, the editor in charge, and especially Sunday's Okamoto-san, who is a big fan of Inuyasha, and my wife who was a former chief assistant at Rumiko Pro, so please enjoy it as one of the possible solutions to the Sengoku Otogi Zoshi world. In the play, I said that "the universe spreads its branches and leaves" so as not to deny other possibilities that everyone has. Somewhere, there may be a universe where Takahashi-sensei changes her mind one day and draws a completely new Sengoku Otogi Zoshi world that is different from this one...I certainly hope so."

Furinkan also notes that: "Shiina-sensei mentions "Sunday's Okamoto and his own wife. This is referring to Riri Okamoto (岡本吏莉), Rumiko Takahashi's current editor and Aya Shimizu (清水彩), who worked as Takahashi's assistant during Urusei Yatsura, Maison Ikkoku and Ranma 1/2."

Shiina is nothing if not humble about his work here.

Thanks for including this goofy sea-monster, Shiina so I had space to post the blog post translation:

"Anyway, thanks to the enthusiasm of those involved, the anime Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon was born, and thanks to it, we fans were able to miraculously meet Inuyasha, Sesshomaru, and the others again. While I am grateful for that, I did the best I could to turn it into a manga, and at this point, I probably couldn't do more than this or do it in any other way. So, all I can do now is pray that as many Inuyasha and Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon fans as possible will enjoy this manga. The 10 volumes of the book are easy to read, so please buy them. The final volume, volume 10, will be released around August.

And so, the comicalization of Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon, which I have been writing for nearly four years, is now complete. While I was writing, I always felt like the characters were family to me. It was a dreamlike pleasure to be able to spend this time with the characters and world of my beloved Rumiko Takahashi-sensei's work.

Thank you to Rumiko Takahashi-sensei and everyone involved, and to all the Rumic fans, for staying with me until the end! I hope to see you again somewhere, with another manga."

End of chapter, end of volume. Thanks for reading! I feel Shiina did pretty good. This volume wasn't my favorite, but it was fun to see everyone even if it was a bit cheesy. You can tell he loves Inuyasha as a series and the Yashahime manga was him writing as a fan. I understand that doesn't work for everyone, but it worked for me ultimately. I am happy that I ended up storytiming this manga.

Feel free to use the thread to discuss anything Yashahime (or Inuyasha) related. I have some stuff I'll posting here and there to bump the thread.

That's all I got. Don't expect a new thread from this trip next week. Or for a while.

This page right here might just be the single biggest piece of character development Sesshy displays. He doesn’t rise to Inuyasha’s provocation or even match his energy; he merely acknowledges Inuyasha has recovered and moves on. He’s 100% past any bad blood he formerly had with his younger brother, and it’s so subtle too, I love it.
>>288666841
Agreed. Sesshy is my favorite character but I don’t want blind hero worship or anything. I really appreciate Inuyasha for calling him out on what was…probably pretty close to accurate. Sesshy does tend to have tunnel vision once he sets his mind to something, after all.

Ginkotsu was always a weird one because we see Inuyasha dodging lightning as early as volume…2, I think? And it’s not even an outlier either since lightning attacks reappear multiple times in the setting. So clearly Renkotsu’s cannons are firing something out of the ordinary for them to be a threat.

A quick google search seems to indicate muskets and firearms first came to Japan in the 1540's. Picrel establishes Yashahime seems to take place in 1560. I don't think it's very farfetched for the Demon Slayers to have them.

>>288666880
I do find it a little silly that Kagome is worried the girls will be gone for like 40 years, though.
>>
>>288673186
I said rifling. I know muskets and smoothbore cannons were around, rifling wasn't. rifling is the grooves cut into the barrel to force the bullet to spin, making it more accurate. rifling wasn't really viable until the industrial revolution because you need precise machining tools to create it. having rifling is on the level of having gas streetlamps in terms of technological advancement.

Okay I’m up and ready, prepare yourselves because this commentary is gonna be a doozy since it’s the final volume, reason why I was saving it till today during the afternoon when I’d be all well rested:

First things first…

>>288664034
>Towa panty shot
Rumiko would never! In fact she specifically requested the Sunrise anime team never to give Kagome any panty shots since she was only 15 and Towa is even younger… This isn’t respecting Rumiko’s vision at all Shiina, though I guess I shouldn’t be surprised since he seems to be a Sessrincel.

>>288664696
>Sango is pregnant again
This, Moroha, and Shiori becoming a pirate ship captain are the only things I’ll accept as canon from Yashahime. Good on Shiina for letting Miroku impregnate Sango again and give us that Mirsan baseball team family we were all expecting.

>>288664724
>”Sure we may be half-baked half demons”
Moroha isn’t a half-demon though, why are you intentionally leaving her out? Who’s saying this Towa or Setsuna? It’s not really clear.

>>288664790
>Koga being allowed to participate in the final boss battle when Rumiko wouldn’t let him be there for the final Naraku showdown
Okay this was better than what Rumiko did, I’ll admit that.

>>288664823
>Is this out of character?
Hmm, hard to say… I don’t think it’s OOC for Sessmom to participate and help her son and granddaughters and maybe she’d complain a little/act exasperated but I don’t know if she’d act THAT haughty and self-important. It could be just a translation issue on Viz’s part too, Raws anon can you please provide the raws for this page?
>>
>>288665000
>>288665000
>Miroku: “Where did you get THAT thing?”
This on the other hand feels OOC, OOC count number 16, 17? Why is Miroku acting all surprised and exasperated at the wartank when he’s supposed to be the most technologically-savvy and ahead of the Feudal born characters due to being the brains/scholar of the group? I mean he was able to figure out how to work and ride Kagome’s bicycle right when they first met before he knew anything about it, and I think he was also the one filling in every one else in the gang regarding the Band of Seven’s more “modern” European weaponry and the like if I recall? In fact this feels more like a plan HE would come up with and Sango would be surprised and exasperated about rather than the other way around…

>>288665112
>Random Goddess Ameterasu that was never relevant or even once mentioned in Inuyasha lore
Wouldn’t it have been more appropriate to use Midoriko here?

>>288665176
>Rin with a gun
I don’t know whether to laugh or to cry, I have so many questions… Where did they even get that gun to begin with? Portuguese colonization never touched Kaede’s village as far as I’m aware since it’s in the middle of bum-fuck nowhere. Is this just another remnant of the Band of 7’s weaponry that the Inugang just happened to save and brought back for safekeeping off-screen? And how would Rin who’s never had a day of training or battling in her entire life and is the dumbest and weakest character in the entire Inuyasha canon BY FAR be able to just instinctively know how to use it on the first try?

On the one hand I guess I should give Shiina credit for at least ATTEMPTING to make Rin somewhat useful instead of regulating her to the eternal damsel she was back in Inuyasha Proper, but this still feels a bit too ridiculous, even for Yashahime.
>>
>>288679757
This isn't a traditional panty shot and we've seen Kagome naked. He presumably got it approved. I assume her issue with anime panty shots is the cliche rather than anything. Plus, I think Towa is the same age as Kagome was back then.
>>
>>288679967
I don't think he's surprised by its existence, just that he wasn't aware it was there up to this point. And how Sango for her hands on it.

And Amaterasu was in the initial description of the Grim Comet from many volumes ago.

>or even have them interact with their parents from the past and play at Back to the Future.
It would just further highlight how much of a weird, grooming ship Sessrin is. I mean can you imagine the twins meeting their parents back in the OG and seeing their father play daddy and practically raise their literal CHILD mom? I mean Towa and Setsuna already remarked how weird it is that their mom is so young and that she doesn’t even act like a proper adult woman would, this would just further cement it.

Also imagine Towa in particular with her modern sensibilities due to being raised in our era seeing that shit play out right in front of her eyes on what her parents relationship was REALLY like, I could honest to god see her trying to get her dad arrested, at the bare minimum she’d be creeped the fuck out and not want anything to do with Sesshomaru after that. Seeing that she was basically a product of grooming and pedophilia I could definitely see this influencing her decision and she probably wouldn’t even want to reunite with her parents anymore and would just stay in the modern era with the Higurashis. Hell even Setsuna would probably be weirded out and not want anything to do with her parents after seeing their past considering this was considered weirdo behavior even during the Feudal Era in the Rumicverse (recall the Inugang’s reaction to Miroku’s attempted grooming of an 11 year old Koharu, and Rin was even YOUNGER than that).

>tfw you find out your father’s a groomer and raised your mother

I almost would have liked to see this happen just to see the twins reaction, I mean it’s not like Shiina has been exactly subtle throwing low-key shade on just how weird Sessrin is.

>For all Kirinmaru x Sesshomaru fans
What did Shiina mean by this? Shiina, you do realize the “x” between characters is usually meant to refer to a ship don’t you?

Actually I’ve really been coming to like the SessKirin ship even despite Kirinmaru being a non-canon OC character thanks to this one artist on Pixiv, hey if Sesshomaru can’t have Toga then why not his father’s best friend? They even both have daughters (I’m referring to Rin here as Sesshomaru’s daughter since the twins aren’t canon) so they would be two single fathers getting together playing house and it would be a perfect match! Shiina does seem a little too keen in always having Kirinmaru get up so close and personal to Sesshomaru’s face and even having him call him terms of endearment like “my boy.”

Yeah, I think I ship this now…

Think I’ll just post SessKirin (or what rare SessToga fanart I could find) for the remainder of this commentary just to trigger the Sessrincels and “This Sesshomaru is straight” crowd.

I’m so relieved to see the fan-translations from these other two SessToga pages I kept posting ended up being accurate at least, even if that first one wasn’t. (I’m talking of course about the panel with the Sesshomaru & Toga flashback where the fan-translation had Sesshomaru think to himself that only Toga is worthy of his regard whereas the actual actual translation was supposed to be Sesshomaru thinking he can only trust himself).

Also thank you for Kirinmaru for telling us what the audience already knows in that all Sesshomaru ever wanted was anything in relation to his father and that he’s always been obsessed with him. Sessrincels and the Sess straightfags will deny it of course, but hey even you all say that Yashahime MUST be canon since Rumiko approves of it and supervised Shiina’s every panel, so clearly she must have approved of these two pages too RIGHHHHT? :)

SESSKIRIN ALSO CANON! SESSRIN A SHIT, A. SHIT!!!

Also:

>Rumiko approved of Shiina practically telling the audience that Sesshomaru’s always been obsessed with his father
>Also approved of him saying that Sesshomaru also cares about Kirinmari
But I thought according to you Sessrincels Rin was the first person Sesshomaru ever gave a fuck about and he didn’t care about any other people prior to her? ^.) That she was the one who “taught him how to love?” Where is your God now?

>It also has more of an appeal as a sequel to the anime original masterpiece "Swords of an Honorable Ruler,"
Shiina you can’t just incorporate that movie into your own timeline when it contradicts what Yashahime has established about hanyou aging (i.e. they age at the same rate as full humans judging by the Sessrin twins and Shiori). Inuyasha can’t be 200 years old chronologically like that movie claims when you have Towa and Setsuna being 14 physically and mentally as well as chronologically.

Because their dynamic is intended to be "Sesshomaru (Setsuna) and Inuyasha (Moroha) if they actually grew up together and relied on each other." Setsuna is the straight man that corrects Moroha's gremlin antics.

I believe one of Shiina's earlier blogs explains that explicitly.

>>288666404
>second was the point blank Wind Scar that led to him meeting Rin
Now that we’re on the subject I’d actually like to correct an error I made a couple of volumes ago. I initially said how it was weird that Towa attributed her parents meeting to Kagome and thanked her for that because she had nothing to do with Inuyasha inheriting the Tetsusaiga and Sesshomaru would’ve always come after him for that anyways, then I remembered that Inuyasha was sealed and Kagome was the only one who could wake him up and release him, so yeah I guess it was ultimately thanks to Kagome Sesshomaru and Rin met. Even if Sesshomaru came for the Black Pearl in his eye while he was sealed to the Tree I doubt that would’ve woken Inuyasha up, or even if it did nobody else but Kagome would’ve been able to release Inuyasha because she was Kikyo’s reincarnation. So yeah, Inuyasha would’ve never been able to claim his birthright and beat Sesshomaru’s ass with it sending him flying near the village Rin was from without Kagome, that was a mistake on my part.

Somehow I get the feeling Viz didn’t translate Moroha’s dialogue here that really showcases her personality like they were supposed to… Doesn’t she call her parents really casually/rudely to mimic Inuyasha’s speech? Ah, so that’s what it was meant to callback to. Seems a little weird to have the Sessrin family call back and parallel an InuKag scene… At least it’s less cringe than Sumisawa stealing Moroha’s family and giving them to Towa, I’ll say that much.

I know Rumiko didn’t have Kagome carry a backpack back in the OG ending because it would’ve ruined the emotional momentum of Kagome making the most important decision of her life right then and there jumping in while never looking back, but it always did seem kinda weird that Kagome didn’t first pack some modern essentials to take along considering she knew this would be her last chance and she’d be stuck in the Feudal Era permanently so why not take practically everything she could grab? And I forgot to mention it but since it’s the end I’d like to say that I’m also not a fan of the way Shiina has Kagome wear her hair the way Kikyo did. It honestly feels OOC and I would hold this as an OOC point against her here (so what are up to now? OOC count 18?) Kikyo is such a sore point for Kagome, especially the way they’re always being compared, and Kagome being reduced to just “Kikyo’s reincarnation” and her replacement is the thing she’s most touchy about so it feels almost kind of disrespectful the way Shiina just has her copy Kikyo’s hairstyle like this. It also contradicts the actual canon since Rumiko also depicts Miko Kagome as wearing her regular hairstyle, how did this manage to get her approval? Even Sumisawa had the good sense to have her wear her hair as a Miko the way she always had, on this point I have to say that I definitely prefer the anime of Yashahime over the manga.

So in terms of Yashahime anime vs manga:

>Prefer in the anime
- Kagome’s hairstyle
- Sesshomaru is ever so slightly LESS OOC and there’s no actual Sessrin shipping moments

>Prefer in the manga
- Everything else

>>288666743
>That Setsuna/Rin moment
…Is Shiina implying Setsuna takes after her father in more ways than one and has a crush on her same-sex parent?
>Myoga:”As Demon Hunters you’ve learned cunning and skill. …Unlike old Lord Inuyasha who flings himself into battle willy-nilly.”
>Shippo: “Don’t talk like that.”
OOC count number 19! Can we make it to 20 before the manga ends? Shippo would never miss a chance to gang up on and berate Inuyasha rather than defend him, though I don’t know the translation seems a little weird… Can I request the raws for this page too RAWS Anon?

>Pic-related is the end of this short comic of Sesshomaru only being able to think of his father even as his mom dolls up Rin for him in a callback to how she did him for Toga

Really? I feel he’s been the same as ever, also it’s only natural he’d mature considering how many years it’s been and the fact that he’s now a father, it’d be sillier if he was still the same childish tsundere. In fact, I quite prefer how Shiina has depicted Inuyasha compared to Sumisawa who always overly flanderizes Inuyasha’s tsunness and impulsivity, the way he depicted Inuyasha not even caring about his mother’s rouge and still trying to play up the whole “tough guy” attitude in the anime was particularly egregious. Pretty much the only time when I thought Inuyasha was portrayed well in the Yashahime anime was how he was as a father to Moroha but that’s pretty much it.

OOC count number 20, hey we managed to make it to 20 before the end just as I thought we would lol! Sesshomaru would never go out of his way for his niece like that, or really anyone that isn’t from his very small circle of people he cares about), but especially not for Inuyasha and his family. He may have learned to tolerate his brother and now has a SLIGHTLY better relationship with him, but he would never go so far as to buy gifts for his family and act like he actually cares. Learning to tolerate doesn’t mean that Sesshomaru’s willing to suddenly play at being one big happy family with Inuyasha Shiina.

OOC count number 21! Man not only have we made it to 20, we even managed to go a little bit over. >Moroha’s scrapped brother mentioned
Shame Sumisawa pressured Rumiko to cut him, probably because he was afraid the InuKag siblings’ bond would upstage his own Donutsteel OCs, but I’m glad Shiina was at least able to allude to him being born someday. Now with Yashahime being finished I hope Rumiko is able to release his design back into the public again and give him an official name. It’d be cute if he were the inverse of Moroha in personality, as in they both take different traits of parts of their parents personality. Whereas Moroha is cheerful and friendly/open like their mother, she also has their father’s impulsivity and hyperactivity. Meanwhile her brother is considerably calmer and more sensible like Kagome while having Inuyasha’s more prickly/grumpy and surly attitude. I can just imagine their dynamic being the boy getting constantly exasperated by his rowdy sister and trying to reign her in while Moroha tries to get him to loosen up and, this is the sort of Yashahime we deserved and what the fans wanted, a sequel focusing on the InuKag and Mirsan families, not a Sessrin fanfic. Yashahime could’ve been such an easy success if only it didn’t decide to pander to thus pedos and self-inserters, thus alienating much of the mainstream Inuyasha audience who tuned out as soon as it was revealed who the mother of Sesshomaru’s twins was.

Also here, take this excerpt from another SessKirin doujinshi where Sesshomaru sleeps with Kirinmaru while pretending he’s Toga and calls out for his father in the middle of sex with him as compensation for the delay.

>Even Hisui thinks this family is weird and throws them shade
EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. You can’t make this shit up, lmaoo! Shiina’s either deliberately trolling the Sessrincels at this point or it’s a lolicon fetish on his part and he secretly enjoys Rin is like a child, there’s no other explanation for this sort of wink-wink nodding to the audience reminding them at every turn with:

>“hey remember what a CHILD Rin used to be?”
>”Well she’s still that same CHILD who gets mothered by her own daughters rather than the other way around like it usually is”

>>288666941
…Is that Rin leaning in for a kiss and blushing? OOC count number 22, not even just for the OG manga & anime, but even Yashahime’s own canon since Shiina pretty much established that Rin’s a gold digger and only married Sesshomaru for his money.

>”Towa and Setsuna you two are the fruit of our joy. Free yourselves to sail into tomorrow and eternity.”
Who’s saying this, Sesshomaru or Rin? It better be Rin or else we’ve got ourselves up to OOC Count 23.

Whatever, here’s some pages of Sesshomaru waxing to Kirinmaru about his real true love Toga to wash away that bad taste in my mouth, as per Google Translate:
>”I... I can't seem to find the words when I'm in front of Father. When he looks at me, I feel like my heart is... pounding. I want him to look at me, yet... it feels so painful... I just don't know what to do...”

>"Whatever, here’s some pages of Sesshomaru waxing to Kirinmaru"

>And it ends exactly like the anime, with the wanking of Sesshomaru to the high heavens
Geez, you couldn’t have the decency to at least throw Moroha in there for the final panel Shiina? Was this final scene mandated by Sumisawa or something?

Annd that’s a wrap! I gotta admit it’s been fun on my end as well even despite my utter hatred for Yashahime’s concept, I enjoyed ripping into it and enjoying the few sparks of genuine good Shiina managed to eke out if nothing else.

>Art: 9/10
>Story: 5/10
>New characters: 5/10 (This score would’ve been higher if some of them weren’t such obvious lazy derivatives of OG Inuyasha characters like Naraku and Kagura)
>Pacing: 7/10
Consistency: 2/10 (too many plot holes to name)
Humor: 8/10
Emotional Moments: 9/10
>Final Total OOC Count of our OG cast: 21 or 22, depends on whether it was Rin or Sesshomaru speaking in that last panel there. (I’m honestly shocked it wasn’t higher, but I just attribute that to both Yashahime’s short length + the OG cast not getting to appear as much as the new one which spared them from even further character assasination)
>Concept: - 000000000000/10
>Overall enjoyment & fun factor: 8/10
>Overall Final Score: 4.5/10

As OOC Sessrin fanfics go it could’ve been worse, but it also could’ve been better. I give Shiina credit for at least making it somewhat tolerable compared to the trash anime, like if he was forced to write this concept he did the very best that he could with it, but it’s like putting lipstick on a pig, you can’t polish a turd. A shit concept is a shit concept.

It’s hard to say if Shiina even ships Sessrin himself, since a lot of what he gave them seemed to be laced with subtle jabs and backhanded callouts over their history and how weird their relationship looks to outsiders, not to mention all the SessKirin and SessToga shipping hints that Sumisawa would never dare put in.

What do you mean? He pretty much behaves exactly the same towards Inuyasha as he always has right after adopting Rin. He only really deliberately goes after and tries to kill him those first few early volumes, once he meets Rin he mainly just ignore him unless he’s trying to test him or they’re being forced to work together or something.
>Agreed. Sesshy is my favorite character but I don’t want blind hero worship or anything. I really appreciate Inuyasha for calling him out on what was…probably pretty close to accurate.

Towa is 14 while Kagome was 15, so she’s a year younger. If Rumiko approved then it’s probably because she doesn’t care since Towa and Setsuna technically aren’t her own characters and are Sumisawa’s creation, I bet she was extra protective over Moroha not flashing any panties though.
>>288680765
Shiina and Sumisawa are cucks who can't even try to add layers into their heroines. Making them into flashy-furry magical girls is the maximum you can get from them (and the blind Brianmaru worship)
Eh to be fair we never got to see just HOW Shiina would write them in that scenario since he never got the chance to, though seeing as how he made Kagome totally OOC in fangirling over Sessrin something tells me he wouldn’t handle Towa and Setsuna any better upon finding out the true nature of their parents’ relationship.

Yes you do, you Sessrincels always get triggered af if Sesshomaru so much as even BREATHES in another person’s direction, remember the Onions Sauce incident where you all ganged up on Shiina because he dared to have the headcanon that Sesshomaru buys Kagome onions sauce? Don’t get me wrong I think that’s pretty OOC for Kagome to do too, but y’all were frothing at the mouth at the very implication that Sesshomaru could possibly care about anyone outside of Rin.

Also it’s you Sessrincels who always kept saying Rin was the first and only person Sesshomaru ever cared about and that he didn’t know how to love before her (since if you’re not lolicon pedos then you’re all self-inserting AGP troons who need Rin to be Sesshomaru’s “special exception” or else it ruins the fantasy for you.)

Pic-related Sesshomaru’s relationship chart written and drawn by a SessKirin shipper where even they admit that Toga is Sesshomaru’s first and greatest love.

As per Google Translate:

Per Rumiko’s Word of God Sesshomaru is Rin’s Hogosha, and Hogosha means foster parent, so he very much did raise Rin. No I wouldn’t mind in Midoriko’s case since it would’ve been the first time and she wasn’t constantly brought back from the dead over and over again like Kikyo was. What was annoying about Kikyo is that she kept being brought back even after having several fake-out deaths to the point where it just got tiring and started cheapening her character. Kikyo not being able to stay dead used to be a meme in the fandom, so bringing HER in particular back very much felt like pointless fanservice and beating a dead horse into the ground once again.

Also I’d like to clear up the misconception some are under that I particularly despise Sesshomaru and Rin’s individual characters even outside the ship. I don’t hate them themselves, I hate the way Sumisawa and Shiina (but especially Sumisawa) write them. While they’re my least favorites they’re fine and tolerable the way Rumiko portrays them, but the way Sumisawa and Shiina tends to glorify and Gary-Stuify/Mary-Sueify them all at the expense of the rest of the cast just grates on my nerves. I guess I just hate what Yashahime turned them into and the fandom surrounding them because they have honest to god THE most insufferable shippers this side of the Naruto and Bleach fandoms. I’ve never met a more unhinged, delusional, and outright annoying fanbase the way I have Sessrins. The fact that they’re outright pedo apologists too all while their ship has as much flavorful chemistry as NaruHina or SasuSaku is just the icing on the cherry shit-flavored cake.

No that’s all, thanks again RAWs anon! And it’s just as I suspected again… Man, how could VIZ so blatantly mess up on the translations of Myoga and Shippo’s lines here? What’s even the bloody fucking point of human translators like this when they always seem to mess up and a machine translation can translate better than they ever could. I am never trusting official English localizations/translations or even human translations in general ever again, I’ve been burned too many times to count.

The butterfly seemed like a good addition, though Kagome and Rin just rolling with it did make them seem a bit callous. And of course, it needed Sesshomaru's mom to be much more active as a participant than she really had been before. It certainly made Setsuna more interesting though, in a way that I can't imagine the anime did.

Don't be silly anon. They're demons, their dna is already magical, inbreeding won't be an issue at all! Probably.

Fucking kek.
I honestly can't blame her, I'd want either of those dog boys all over me too.

Do you think Inuyasha would make a competition with Sesshomaru to see how would have the most kids of the latter had another with Rin?
>>
>>288692605
>Also I’d like to clear up the misconception some are under that I particularly despise Sesshomaru and Rin’s individual characters even outside the ship. I don’t hate them themselves, I hate the way Sumisawa and Shiina (but especially Sumisawa) write them. While they’re my least favorites they’re fine and tolerable the way Rumiko portrays them
Two threads ago you literally said in response to Sesshōmaru being given a cool moment that the only thing he is good for as a character is being angsty fujo defeatbait. That's nothing short of slanderous character assassination. You clearly hate the character and anything associated with him, and I honestly feel like you only dislike Rin due to her association with him.

I dunno what crazy SessRin shippers you were in the trenches fighting against on Tumblr but the majority of people who just think they're cute don't care nearly as much as you seem to think. Shipping isn't that deep. Chill the fuck out, because you unironically make these threads unpleasant to be in no matter what characters someone happens to like.

ENOUGH about shipping.

Who would you want to see your favorite character FIGHT?
>>
>>288694327
My favorite character is Totosai who was disappointingly absent in Yashahime. I guess an old man fight with Myoga would be pretty funny, if lopsided.

That would be me. And yes, Shiina went ahead and made Inuyasha into a dad that would beat up his kid like we all feared. He’s being as rough with Moroha as he usually is with Shippo in that panel.

Those threads only activate when the biology of the being you're reading with your computer assisted PSI that's now rebelling against your biological PSI talent starts to die a truly hideous death. How many years was is it?

Shiori is a bat hanyo. Bat Daiyokai don't seem to have eternal youth like Inu Daiyokai seem to. She's probably gonna die long before Inuyasha does.

Do different species of youkai have different aging mechanics? I thought they’re all long-lived, I mean just look at Shippo. Where was this ever mentioned in either Inuyasha or Yashahime that demons age differently depending on species?

>Do different species of youkai have different aging mechanics? I thought they’re all long-lived, I mean just look at Shippo. Where was this ever mentioned in either Inuyasha or Yashahime that demons age differently depending on species?
It's never 𝘦𝘹𝘱𝘭𝘪𝘤𝘪𝘵𝘭𝘺 mentioned anywhere in the original series, but Zero in the Yashahime manga mentions several times that Daiyōkai like herself and the Great Dog Demon would live until the end of time. We have also never seen a Dog Daiyōkai that looks old, whereas the same cannot be said for the likes of Taigokumaru, despite them allegedly also being a Yōkai of the Dai-status.

The implication does seem to be that some Yōkai clans have different aging mechanics than others. Not all Yōkai are created equal in this world.

I'm not one of the powerscaling anons but the last few volumes kinda dipped the top tiers like Sesshōmaru into some universal-scale nonsense.

Dunno if I'd say he styles on ALL of Bleach like that other anon because I know Bleach has no shortage of bullshit to throw at him, but he probably gives Byakuya a run for his money, and that's the guy who is most often compared to Sess anyway.

Thank you RumicOP/YashimeOP. I've been her since UY Volume 2. I'm really gonna miss you :( I'd be down for other series dumps from you, even if only at the once a week schedule. But of course it is up to you, I kinda just want you around. You were quite thorough so this must've been quite the ordeal. I quite liked this series and my liking grew as it went along. Stay fresh, bro.

>>288704840
To add on to my comment here; in Volume 7, Zero flatout says she has an ‘endless life’ and would life for eternity, and seems to believe Toga would have as well. Here’s three pages of her outright spelling that out.

So if some Daiyōkai have eternal youth and some Yōkai don’t, it stands to reason their Hanyō would have varying lifespans as well.

Forever is probably a stretch for the Hanyō and ShiHanyō, but they will probably wind up outliving most non-special Yōkai, at the very least.

Considering the Dog Clan are descended from the literal god of time, it makes sense they'd have a pretty unique relation with aging compared to other Daiyokai and their kin. You could accuse Akuru of some flavor of nepotism or favoritism I suppose, but he can do whatever he wants since he's the right hand to fucking Amaterasu.
>>
>>288707041
Thank you! I appreciate the kind words. I will probably be back to redo UY at some point. Or maybe do a dedicated one-shots dump in some fashion or something. But yeah, I'm done for now.

Considering we’ve seen time and again that illusions just don’t seem to work on Inu Clan noses, what win con would Itachi even have in this fight?

Even if we don’t take the stuff for Sess scaling to multiple timelines like Yashahime implies, he can still basically spam the equivalent of Biju Bombs with every swing of his sword. What’s Itachi even going to do without Genjutsu here?
>>
>>288694327
>Who would you want to see your favorite character FIGHT?
I want to see a competition between Sasuke and Sesshomaru regarding who’s the worse husband and father.
>>
>>288709718
That's Sasuke by several orders of magnitude. Sessh has the worst resting bitch face known to man or demon, but it's very clear that he adores his wife and daughters and would go through hell for them. Sasuke seems emotionally checked out at best when it comes to his family.
>>
>>288709718
Sessh may be aloof and might’ve done the whole ‘Sengoku Era Samurai’ thing where he expected maids/servants to do most of the childrearing but the guy also spent a millennia in a time loop stubbornly fighting to protect his daughters and wife. And judging by his dialogue when Towa questioned him about it, he’d do it again without a second thought.

Sasuke meanwhile didn’t even recognize his daughter and would’ve killed her if she didn’t scream ‘Dad’ when he was moving to cut her head off. Sasuke’s the worse parent and it isn’t close.
>>
>>288709693
Come to think of it, Itachi’s Toska Blade and Yata Mirror are both directly stayed to be Spiritual equipment, which is why the former can bypass durability in Naruto.

Wouldn’t Tenseiga be able to destroy both of those, then?
>>
