Ur is a good shonen archetype which is good for action scenes, but for everything else it's better to focus on Bharat (I'm going to kill whoever came up with their names) and his tardwrangling of the kid.
>>288853493Is the author known for anything?

The temu reigen+mob dynamic and the art makes it already better than 90% of axebait but the midget design is so bad
>axelith
>>288856386nah, at least it gives you a good view of what the manga is about. the text and the names for the roles absolutely are axebait tier tho

>>288856310He is (he's a war veteran who could break a huge rock with one hand), but since the monsters are many times stronger than him and the kid is naive as fuck, he needs to be "the brains" of the team for the manga to work.>>288856217Newcomers prefer to explain the basics first because they get the axe notice on the first 7-10 chapters. >>288856593Yeah sure.
>>288855341That's why isekai is better than shounen.[skill : barrier] and author gives no fuck about explanation.
>>288856310won't be long before we see other characters who can defeat level 2 and 3 monsters on their own, and eventually top hunters who can even defeat level 4. >>288853493This was better than i expected, can't say i care a whole lot about the setting or the the mystery of the kid origin, but i liked the teacher-student dynamic, and that so far at least the focus seems to be on the teacher.

>>288856217Writing conventions, from the writing convention dimension
>>288853715The opening naration had me feeling like the wars that left the robots behind were hundreds of years ago, but here we see it's only been a few years, at which point I wish they would be more precise and tell us exactly how long ago it was
>>288855937>shota cock in chapter 1Modern shounen could never
>>288853493I like it. These types of real-world inspired fantasy stories are my cup of tea and this one has a cool setting with the monsters and nice artwork. Unfortunately this is WSJ so you never know how things are going to go.
>>288854534The art is great, suffers a bit in the action department because the Regilith things are a bit overdesigned and kill some of the readability.I don't know what to say about the writing: the premise sounds neat but there's a bit too much exposition (the way that they forced Bharat to say his own name doesn't bode well, there's a million better way to namedrop your MC). The idea of what's basically a MOB100 dynamic is an interesting gamble, so far it doesn't really seem that appealing and kind of botched: what makes mob good is that he has incredible powers but he wishes to obtain something different (grow as a person and not have to use his power at all) so his relationship with Reigen, despite based on a false premise, it's still exactly what Mob is looking for. Here instead Ur is strong and strength is what he seems to desire, which is redundant and easily solvable. Now if the 1st chapter showcased how strength isn't all you need to be a good Slaylith (fucking stupid name) and Ur is immature and needs to grow up first that'd be a better angle, but at the end the day is saved because of Ur's sheer strength.I'll give it a couple chapters to see how the author's gonna spin this duo dynamic but I'm not that hopeful.
>>288856386this is what i thought immediately kek
>>288853517>>288853542Isn't this the plot of horizon?
Can't wait for the robot kid's inevitable adult form.
>>288857696you are in for some disappointment
>>288853715>the great war was a few years agoI wonder how much thought the author has put into the setting. If people were able to build these advanced mechs like a decade ago then why is the overall level of technology so low? This would work better if these were ancient machines from a war 1000 years ago that suddenly awoke relatively recently and no one really knows what's going on with them because they were built by a lost civilization.
>>288854534It was pretty damn good. Personally, I'm not a fan of middle-aged protagonists in shonen manga, but this one has been a buddy story with a young boy from the start, making it easy to get into. The first chapter mixes in comedic elements while keeping the story straightforward, and yet as a battle series, it still has real punch.
This was pretty good. Too bad all the manga I like will get the axe so RIP.
>>288854534Are these supposed to be dreadlocks?
>>288854534cute ossan protagonistart is pretty but maybe a little too clean for the setting, i think i'd have liked it more visually if there was a contrast between the super sleek smooth statue monsters vs. more organic, rough lineart for everything else to highlight their nature, but also this is wsj where clean art is expected unless your name is gegeas >>288857250 pointed out, there's not much for Ur to strive for as he's already got what he wants and mc fooling him probably can't last that long realisticallythere's also no real story or goal stated at the start, which imo is a huge misstep for shonen manga. you could say the goal is "learning the mystery of ur's true nature" but that's weak compared to things like "i'm gonna be king of the pirates/hokage" or "i'm gonna find all my dad's swords and destroy them" or whatever kgb is about. monster of the week stories are fine, but you need a much stronger goal right out the gate to survive in jump.as for the monsters themselves, while they're impressive, giant, and well drawn, i have to wonder how much of that the mangaka has in him: can he keep coming up with distinct ones? or is this going to quickly devolve into a bunch of other ur-type characters fighting each other? i could see this becoming something like gash bell desert edition.either way, it's an ok first chapter, i'll follow it for a bit.
>>288854534What did everyone think?
>>288853542that's some wolfonium shit right there
>>288855392if you spend more than a second looking at it, obviously yes
>>288859237Nah it's short.
I like the POV character putting on airs and the dynamic of him being reliant on the apprentice. But Ur's design looks like ass and he seems to be overpowered without a meaningful limitation. It would've been better if Ur exhausted quickly so Bharat's job was to ensure he didn't blow his load on something retarded. And Ur should've been a cute tomboy.
>>288859570>It would've been better if Ur exhausted quickly so Bharat's job was to ensure he didn't blow his load on something retardedthis probably will come up. ur is obviously a statue type thing, and they made a point of bringing up that when the statue fired its main cannon, it couldn't do it again for a bit
>>288854534This reminds me a bit of Magi.
>>288856217Manga has become a self-referencing medium, these people don't read books anymore.
>>288853916That's how it's read in a book, and that's how panels are meant to be set up. It's how the author expects pages to be read. Reading single pages is a strictly inferior restriction imposed by vertical screens.
The only thing that really bothered me was the naming. Everything else I actually liked.
>>288854534I like the setting and monsters. I could maybe warm up to the characters more but it's too early to say, they're fairly bland on first impression. I think the premise of invincible apprentice and lying teacher might hold the manga back if it doesn't develop beyond being played as a gag.
>>288854494>>288854654>didn't stitch the spreadswhat a fucking re->"not using your thread, sophia"figures...
>>288859570>>288859716Statues need human blood to use their magic powers. Ur probably depleted what he had when Bharat found him so until he gets more blood he won't be able to do more OP attacks.
The story/world building has potential and the teacher’s design is ok but couldn’t the mangaka come up with better design for the kid? What the fuck are the editor doing? Whoever the editor is should be remove.
>>288860868What exactly is so wrong about the kid's design?
>>288854534So.I'm not feeling it much. I did read the whole chapter, so it isn't all bad but there are several epements that don't instill courage in me.The title is kinda bad. It's not Alien Headbutt but it's also not exactly "cool" or interesting. The name slaylith fucking sucks and will wall the manga in the west hard. The pacing is weird and the artist doesn't seem that good at perspective, which is CRUCIAL if you fight giant enemies. The big head cheatcode page looks like shit.>>288860841I don't get this need to "nerf" the op main character. Who cares, as long as the writing around it is good. Ken in HnK is hardly challenged by anything, at most he gets set back, but rarely gets even close to defeat. He basically one shots most of his foes easily, it's the stories crafted around it that give it stakes.
>>288860868Looks fine at least it's not generic.
>>288860909>>288861020Look ugly. Not sure if he is going off the asta look or whatever but it doesn’t look good to me.
>>288860990>I don't get this need to "nerf" the op main characterI don't mind OP characters as long as they are used correctly and not as free asspulls. The idea of Ur being like the statues needing human flesh to live is something that would make the manga more interesting, specially if the statues specifically need to consume a large amount of human flesh (like a leg or more) that can't be obtained without causing permanent damage to the donor.
>>288861429I am gonna give it the three chapters rule and see if it builds up an interesting story.Alien Headbutt sorely disappointed me.
I don't see it going far. It's got the right dynamic but I don't think the characters are all that interesting. Good effort on the action.
It's a pretty good first chapter, but I'm so-so on how this will go in the long run. I don't find being a worse version of the Mob Psycho dynamic particularly appealing. Really depends on how the next few chapters go.
These threads for new manga are always full of wannabe editors/fanfiction writers
>>288861051He reminds me of Toriyama's Beelzebub but more human and with a "good boy" personality instead of being a brat. Other than his hair and name I dig his character design. It makes it clear that he's an advanced version of those statues and that he can be quite dangerous if he's handled the wrong way.
>>288861715Yeah, the hair doesn’t do it for me. The same reason I didn’t like kiyoshi because the Mc has piercing.
>>288854534I kinda hate the kid.
>>288854534I give this 10 chapters before the axe
>>288860841If Ur ended up being a vampire, that'd be pretty cute. Has to chomp on Bharat to power up big attacks.
>>288862713Can they even go down that fast?
>>288856217If your only referring to the the first color pages and only battle shounen then almost all of them. Sakadays is just sakamoto in the store Ichi is him looking at animals with wanting to hunt themNue is her vaguepostingKgb is a tricky one. There's infodump but it's about forging katanas which isn't really important to the lore except for the first chapter and the current arc which is 2 years into serialization. The only 2 series that does this are shinobi and kiyoshi.
>>288860868>>288861715I think he's cute and I think Beelzebub is too weird looking.
I like the duo but the fights suck ass
>>288853916That’s how manga is meant to be read. Your eye should flow from page to page. Unless it’s made for digital reading
>guy named Bharat>is a scammer
>>288854534Reminds me of Gluck and Gluna, but without anything that makes me like it. Though the mc dynamic is maybe more like Mob Psycho unless I forgot what Reigen and Mob were like.
>>288857996Yeah it's a really weird way to have done it.
This manga will dodge the axe.
>>288856386It's awful but has better artwork
>>288853896ayy it's liger zero

>>288867127That's nonsense.

>>288867127That's not saying much.
>>288854534Thank you for posting!
>>288865056I liked Ur's hopping around. And the flute deflection thing was neat. While it did ultimately end in Ur doing a big instant death attack, I think the back and forth leading up to it was good.
>>288854534Ur is what drives the regiliths, calling it now. They've all got these dumb little cyborg kids with super strength as their brains, and Ur just fell out of his robot with amnesia.
>>288870452>giant beast-like machines of war capable of destroying entire cities while using humans as fuel>inside them there are artificial little boys who are stronger than the giant machines and (probably) don't even need human flesh to workWhat kind of sick fuck would create an army of two-phase bosses?
>>288870452I think he's either a member of whatever hyper advanced civilization made the regiliths, or is the perfected version of them.
>>288853675lmao I like Bharat already now because of the circumstance
>>288853864>they've been fucking around for 5 yearsI don't think that's a good writing decision
>>288870841Could be that the thinking was a sort of Trojan horse lull them into a false sense of security thing but a flaw in the design meant the pilots usually crumbled with the mech
>>288854534Not feeling Ur but I like Bharat a lotThe decision to have it be from Bharat's perspective is questionable from a commercial standpoint, but I like it. I hope it stays that wayThis feels like bizarre mix of Magi for the world and Mob Psycho for the characters except Bharat is not a complete fraud and does put his life on the line everytime unlike ReigenUnfortunately I do think it's axe bait. Hopefully I'm wrong
>>288853493when are the punctuation from the japanese readers coming?
>>288871072Yeah that's questionable but maybe it'll lead to something.
>>288856386Just started reading and I thought that too. I might short sell this manga
>>288863802kgb's infodump serves to set the mood and the fact this is a katanawank manga. if it was in the style of boner collection it'd say something "sorcery, a power that flows in every human. people who use it are called Sorcerers and organize in clans. howere there are magical swords that command powers greater than any sorcerer. they are called... Enchanted Blades"i'd say the big difference is that the opening pages of kgb are entirely focused on the protagonist and what's relevant to him.
>>288856217slam dunk having the main character actually only doing anything baskeball related after volume 1 is more anomaly than the norm.
