I remember this case from when it was coming out chapter by chapter. People were getting frustrated with how it just kept on going for such an ordinary and rather dull case.

I don’t blame Ran though despite her being a dumbass, she’s not in the know with what’s really happening with him and she has technically discovered his secret multiple times. Even with Conan, it hardly feels like they have good chemistry or meaningful interactions besides her being over protective and chasing after him in a crime scene

But to have that, they have to outclass the cast regulars, and given how broken the regulars are it always feels forced.There's three problems involved, and only two are Gosho's fault: 1 the format of the series simply DOES NOT allow space for character development. You can't have "dead panels". THere's always going to be an ongoing case, and that's by design. You can't have two characters sitting on a bench and just talking. At the end of a chapter either a crime is committed, ongoing or being solved. In these conditions there's not much you can do.2 Gosho fumbled extremely hard with Eisuke. Because Eisuke, once you take out his out of the ordinary heritage, was a quite regular dude. But because of that, Gosho had his make some deductions at the cost of breaking suspension of belief. The character tanked and so Gosho backtracked.Which brings us to 3 the Sera effect, aka every new character outshines the preexisting ones. WHich causes exactly what you're talking about: the regulars become audience for the new characters.Thankfully, this happens only when new regulars show around.DC doesn't allow for the average Joe to exist, unless it's for the role of suspect or culprit.There's only two exceptions: Azusa and Shiratori's teacher gf. And both were introduced years ago. Nowadays it's too late to back to that trend. Not when we're supposed to be in the ending arcs.

>>289274920It's sad because there's very few tidbits here and there in the series when Gosho can be subtle (Yamamura's friend/ Morofushi's brother case conclusion, or the first time Conan believed he could revert back with no issues are a couple of good examples that immediately come to my mind, but they're not the only ones). He just... doesn't do it. I don't get if it's an editorial choice, the public or whatever.
