However, I disagree with that applying to Tenchi, considering his is well done. Rather than just having the cast revolve around him, which it does to some extent, all the women have their own interactions with each other which really sells it. They may have all married Tenchi, but they're all family with each other as well. Even Ayeka and Ryoko. You see Sasami and Ryo-oki interact as well, and Washu has quite a lot of interactions with the Ryoko, Sasami, and Ryo-oki. To me the weakest links are probably Mihoshi and Noike, however they definitely have links to each other, which does help sell the "family / bonds which doesn't revolve around Tenchi".It's also not really anomalous to Tenchi alone, the harem set up is also done for Seina (confirmed) and Kenshi (presumed). In Seina's case it was halfway "yo, your bad luck will literally kill you without these women around", and in Kenshi's case it's so far just going with the flow. Of these three, I think Kenshi has the most valid objections, but even then that world does the standard "more female than male pilots, and they can really only breed with male pilots because of muh culture", so excusable in-universe.

The later OVAs for this are just bizarre. Beatifully animated, hour long episodes that are entirely hag tea parties, marriage arrangements, and setting up the plot for Geminar after it already happened.
