Realized a big part of the reason Togashi's art looks so different in this arc compared to earlier arcs is because he's most likely using different tools. He said he draws lying on his back, so using the nib pens that he used before would be very difficult, as the paper needs to be lying horizontally (or at a very low angle at the most) in order for the ink to flow properly. This combined with how the line art looks, mostly uniform line weights without any taper at the ends, makes me think that he's using fineliner or technical pens now

While I'm not fluent, panel four's translation feels out of step compared to what other's have gone with. Considering how VDrake handles it:
>"The fact that the target’s face is unknown means that the user incorporated an anonymizing effect in their Nen. This reeks of malicious intent!!"
Paired with the fact that the PC is displaying people under the effect of the curse, the caster wove the spell with the assumption that someone like Furykov would seek to discern the target of the curse. The "anonymizing/concealment" effect hides the target, not the caster(Beyond)
>>
so
>1st prince - leading martial law
>2nd prince - stubbornly ignoring martial law
>3rd prince - off with the mafia, men still concerned about the damn coins
>4th prince - in a state of zen completely unfazed by martial law announcement
>5th prince - begrudgingly complying, men are doing some science work
>6th prince - just complying
>7th prince - off with the mafia, men are being framed for treason
>8th prince - dead
>9th prince - soul is in an indeterminate location
>10th prince - dead, but lives on as cute ghost sidekick for 11th prince
>11th prince - cursed but otherwise safe under judicial custody
>12th prince - dead
>13th prince - committing treason to stay in nen space
>14th prince - may not even be on the boat or in the contest, mother temporarily safe from treason charges
pretty interesting spread
so if I'm interpreting this right then when Benjamin said "4 princes to go" in ch410 he was almost certainly referring to Zhang, Luzurus, and Marayam and the last is most likely Halkenburg but may also be tse or cammy

Cammy is priority #1 so she’s the first. Next is Tserriednich. Halkenburg is third if Benjamin can even find him. That makes two other princes he has to deal with. It’s been awhile but I don’t think Benjamin was even aware Halkenburg was still in the game when he made that 4 princes left statement.

>>289667941
The most incredible part about their cope is that they have to argue that "Kurapika's teacher was wrong".
When for 15 years "Kurapika's teacher" was an unnamed character that only existed in a flashback, exclusively talking about Nen, and in a position of authority on the subject.
For anyone with 3 functioning brain cells, it's clear Izunavi was a stand-in for the narrator.
Nothing he says in those flashbacks is supposed to be dubious.

And I'll go even further:
Kurapika is one of the most intelligent characters in the series, and he's extremely argumentative.
But when his teacher presents something he doesn't like, he is either bummed about it, or he tries to walk away.
Kurapika doesn't debate whether it's possible someone could make unbreakable chains etc.
Kurapika accepts, and the story is telling us, that Izunavi is only presenting facts.

What Beyond is saying is that the curses are essentially a failsafe in case something like what the Hunter Association is doing comes to pass. Kurapika aims to cause a stalemate until they reach the New Continent, which violates the terms of the Succession War because it ends by the time they arrive there, and there needs to be a victor by then or something bad will happen. So if by that point no victor is determined Beyond can just trigger the curses and kill all the other princes that aren't his kid, determining a victor by default.

But he's also fine with the Succession War resulting in another victor because he's still a VVIP, so whoever wins will still support his endeavors and expeditions to the Dark Continent. So he's telling Furykov that once the war starts don't dawdle, hurry up and make Benjamin the winner if that's who you want to win, because otherwise -I- will determine the winner.
>>
>>289668558
People can say Beyond is doing this for the good of Kakin and its prosperity but I think he is being really petty just because some brat offended him or was going to offend decades ago.

The narrator literally tells us that this "invincibility" ability could not protect against STRONG NEN.
>>
>>289668862
No, I don't think so. The Queen was beat up and severely malnourished, so I gathered she suffered some battle on the Dark Continent and was swept out to sea and washed ashore in NGL. It was by pure chance, and the series emphasizes that actual ant-sized Chimera Ants already exist, but a human-sized one was unprecedented and lead to the crisis we saw.

Incredible, you are so deep in your headcanon that you hallucinate whats written right in front of you.
It doesn't say STRONG NEN, it says "Symbiotic-type attacks from multiple nen users working together."
Meruem wouldn't be able to damage them unless he fulfilled that condition, they would die as soon as the timer ran out, but STRONG NEN cannot overcome rules set by strict conditions.
Cope and seethe.

So they're still in the known world and actually close to land.

This makes the whole mailing timeline more feasible, but still outrageous. You can see Yamato on the map there. If these lands are the same size as they are in our world, which I think they're supposed to be, then 3-5 days would require a drone to fly faster than real-life drones. I wrote a post with all the numbers before but nobody cared. In the end, what Togashi says goes.

my assumption is he was already guaranteed those kind of resources by being the public face of the expedition. he's the one who brings so much attention to the idea that the v5 has to authenticate the trip. the partnership gives kakin new land to claim for their own and gives beyond another trip to the dark continent. there's already so much upside for both sides i just figure the resource provisions would no way be reneged on, even if halkenburg won or something.

That's exactly how it works. Nen is all about balance, that's why there's conditions and restrictions. It's also why Kurapika can create an ability that only works on spiders. These things are objective. That's how Nen works. A group of weak Nen users is not stronger than a single powerful Nen user. Muteking simply has a restriction that it doesn't work against a group Nen ability.

I find it funny how Benjamin is seemingly the only person on the ship that realizes just how outgunned the Hunters have Kakin. Everyone else is happy to start shit with the Hunters, even his own men. Given how hot-heated Ben is, I can't help but imagine that at some point in the past he learned how strong the Hunters are personally.
Weirdly, not even the Hunters themselves seem to realize that they could just roll over the entire ship and put a stop to the violence. It's not like Nasubi would care, as long as someone wins the Succession War.

>>289670239
It's probably due to Kakin's specific environment. That nation is a political hellscape neck deep into ancient nen practice. It makes sense they can refine their hatsu to a T with prior ij depth knowledge of nen mechanics. For example, just think of how a retard like Camilla managed to develop a post mortem, resurrection hatsu.
>>
The more conditions and limitations a guy's ability has, the weaker his nen. More weak characters in focus = more overcomplicated abilities.
>>
>>289670239
>Remember when the major villain of an arc has the ability to make people explode by saying bomber?
No? Genthru's ability was more complicated than that. To use Countdown he needed to touch his target while saying "Bomber", then explain to them how his ability works, including how to deactivate the bombs. He disguised this by pretending to be a regular player and chatting with others about the rumors of the Bomber before like patting them on the shoulder or shaking their hands.

His Little Flower is just a simple Transmutation ability, giving his aura explosive properties.
>>
>>289670222
The Hunters don’t care. Most are just trying to stay alive and have their own goals to achieve. They are not a united army and compared to Kakin this is their greatest weakness in the war.
>>
>>289670239
>>289670398
It was also the first example of a Group ability, even if it wasn't called such outright. To explode the bombs he needed to put his thumbs together with his two other friends, and say a word.

What? This is the exact opposite of how Nen works. The more limitations and conditions you have the more specific your ability, but it also makes it stronger. Kurapika has an ability that just sends his opponent into Zetsu and prevents them from using Nen at all. It only works because he restricted the targets, with his life on the line for violating it.

If anything his Steal Chain is overpowered as fuck because it causes a similar effect, without requiring Emperor Time, and has no restriction of targets.

>>289670239
Complexification of powers is a very common trope in shounens as authors rarely plan the abilities of every character over decades nor do they expect their story to last that long, so they use most simple and straight-forward abilities they have in mind early in the story and then need to come up with more complex powers along the line.

There is also the fact that Togashi rarely used walls of text to explain the abilities of his characters in the early arcs. You could definitely dedicate an entire chapter to discuss the ins and outs of Hisoka's power, every parameters and edge case, but Togashi prefered to let the abilities speak for themselves and for readers to understand how they work through short sentences here and there, but mostly just visual displays (with a few exceptions, like Knov's).

Take pic related example. If that scene had taken place in Yorkshin or Greed Island, we would only have had this guy say something like "hold on, stay put for a minute. That'll grant you temporary invincibility." then later the invincible character think "Gotta hurry. He touched me for five minutes, so I'm getting five minutes of invincibility." and that's about it. It'd be more vague but also more organic and concise. Now we get a full panel with detailed explaination of exactly what it does, how it works, the exact parameters and conditions of it, etc.
>>
>>289658020
It should be possible, why not.

>>289670608

>>289670851
Benjamin's guards look OP but Balsamico already confirmed they're not that good with Nen, any capable Hunter rapes them
>>
>>289670357
Yeah. Benjamin hand-picked his guards here, so he probably chose those with abilities favored for espionage and assassination in preparation for the Succession War. A guy with a really simple ability like "I transmute the attribute of sharpness to my Nen" is likely really versatile in a lot of situations, but wouldn't be that suited for being covert.

I kind of wonder what Sayird was doing though. His ability seems nigh-useless for security detail. Was Beyond expecting him to use it for scouting on the Dark Continent or something?
>>
>>289670883
I'm hoping it takes a much longer time to drain people with a higher aura capacity. Enough time that they can just remove the needle if they haven't been subdued. Otherwise it really is just a "Dodge my attack or get put into Zetsu lol" God I just realized, imagine if it was Kurapika instead of Knuckle working with Meleoron against Youpi. Without The ability to notice the chain, 1 minute of draining might have been enough.

I think Beyond was actually the one that helped Nasubi win his own succession war.
Think about it, how did Beyond become a VVIP that's able to talk with high ranking Kakin officers and officials in the first place?
The most obvious answer is, back then he was either hired by or came to Nasubi on his own volition to help him win the war for in exchange a life long status as a VVIP.
Nasubi might've even sanctioned or ordered to create the curses (through Beyond as a proxy) in the first place to make sure the ritual doesn't fail, if what Kurapika hypothesized is true then it would make sense that Nasubi is actually the one trying to prevent the ritual from failing rather than Beyond.
Also why does Beyond even care if the ritual fails or not? Even if the Kakin dynasty ends, isn't that what Beyond actually is trying to achieve by causing the silent revolution 20 years ago and suing the kingdom because it's corrupt?

It doesn't matter how many times you explain it. They will not, and cannot understand the concept of aura output. And much less how conditions only work as multipliers in the equation behind it.
Pouf could use the absurdly OP Beelzebub without any significant conditions.
That is because Royal Guards have retarded amounts of aura reserves and a stupidly high aura output.
A regular human would need two billion conditions in order to make Beelzebub.
JJKfags cannot accept the hierarchical nature of Nen. They think it's all worth the same.

>Why the royal guard were worried Meruem could be teleported
>Shoots ability makes Youpi's body disappear when he fulfills his conditions, despite the aura difference between them.
>Why Meruem couldn't scratch Hakoware (No its not a "Hologram")
>Why the narrator would describe LSDF and Muteking as "INVINCIBLE" abilities
>Why the narrator would specify "Symbiotic Group Attacks" in Mutekings weaknesses if it was just about aura amount instead of a conditional weakness.
He will keep pushing his own delusions as truth, constantly posting the same panels of Izunavi like its a safety blanket.

It's not just me who claims this chart is wrong/ has retcons.
You were never able to answer this post:
"Back when the CA arc was being released, Togashi listed Knov as a Conjurer, and Knuckle as an Emitter.
>the databook wasn't written by Togashi!!
Oh yeah? So how did they know Netero's, Nobunaga's and Milluki's categories - when they hadn't showed literally anything?
But here's the smoking gun: How did they know the impossibly autistic spelling of the names?
How did they know characters' birthdays, that were later confirmed by Togashi?
Those who understand this subject deep down know the truth: the information on the databook WAS provided by Togashi.
Togashi CHANGED HIS MIND when he released that updated Nen chart. He RETCONNED their categories.
The debate is not whether there was a retcon or not. The debate is whether we should accept the retcon or not."

First of all you have to accept the fact that they were written as such, and this was the canon when the CA arc was being rolled out and they were using said abilities.
Secondly, just THIS chapter Bisky thought that the Nen Space the size of a room was too much for anything other than a single use ability. Meanwhile, Knov Conjures a Nen MANSION with 4 floors and 22 (TWENTY TWO) rooms, and keep it Conjured 24/7, even in his sleep.
As an Emitter, with a capped 40% mastery AND 40% efficiency (doubly nerfed), this is completely absurd.
Knuckle forcing Zetsu as an Emitter makes perfect sense, since Emitters have 80% on Manipulation.
And this is not even touching on their personalities.

Look anon, all of what you wrote is some weird headcanon on how you think abilities work. You don't actually address the abilities function at all. You just say how you think they should work without addressing the substance.

Knov has to make portals for his mansion to work.

Knuckle has to summon a nen beast that transforms into another nen beast to enforce zetsu.

You have to ignore these facts because they destroy your headcanon.

Why not anon? Togashi changed his mind. Thats how it works now, you have to accept it. That is your entire argument!
By the way Knov is a great Nen user to be sure, but he Conjured 1 building permenantly with 40% Conjuration, how is this any worse than Korotopi Conjuring FIFTY! (50) such buildings, even if they are temporary. 40% of that power should be able to do 1.

If Knuckle was a Conjurer, it would be even harder to Conjure said beast many kilometers away from his target, and even harder to maintain it indefinitely. Conjurers, by word of the narrator, are TERRIBLE with Emission.

But we don't need to get into this. First you need to find a cope for this databook page. I already destroyed the absurd notion that the information from the databook wasn't provided by Togashi.
You also need to find a cope about the fact that the databook was released precisely during the CA arc, when those characters and those abilities were being used in the story.

>If Knuckle was a Conjurer, it would be even harder to Conjure said beast many kilometers away from his target, and even harder to maintain it indefinitely. Conjurers, by word of the narrator, are TERRIBLE with Emission.
Now you're trying to gaslight again, he doesn't Conjure the beast at a range of Kilometers, in fact he has to physically touch you to stick it to you in the first place. The fact that it remains on you regardless of distance is impressive, but completely useless because it pauses the ability at 50 meters away, which is pathetic for an Emitter.
>But we don't need to get into this. First you need to find a cope for this databook page. I already destroyed the absurd notion that the information from the databook wasn't provided by Togashi.

WHY are you INCAPABLE of reading Kurapika saying he needed EMPEROR TIME PRECISELY BECAUSE HE'S AWFUL WITH EMISSION??
It's SO TIRESOME.
You're the retard. Judgement Chain is a complex ability that requires manipulation and emission to KILL the victim. Kurapika says it becomes to weak to do this after it leaves his hands, NOT THAT IT DISAPPEARS. So he uses Scarlet eyes, and uses the conditions, "Stake my life" and "Limiting the range of the attacks"
Knuckle's attack is less strict than KILLING THE VICTIM, so the conditions of "Limiting the range of the attacks" (sticking it to the person with a hit) and "Counter only goes up within 50-meters" (his pathetic range because he's a bad emitter) After that, the ability doesn't DISAPPEAR, it becomes "TOO WEAK TO BE USEFUL" JUST LIKE KURAPIKA SAID.

Enforced Zetsu via Conjuration and Special Rules is perfectly feasible. Both APR and Chain Jail are examples of this.
>knov
>conjured 24/7
Conjured things do not by default require a constant supply of nen, emphasis on "by default" because a Nen user may choose to introduce some kind of Nen cost upkeep as a limitation. Conjuring demands an upfront cost of Nen which is then converted into material, this material does not behave like raw aura and thus can simply exist without fizzling out like raw aura would.
Knov Conjured his Mansion exactly ONCE into Nen Space. The Conjured Mansion, suspended in NS does not demand a supply of aura, it simply exists.
The Mansion is not governed by any Special Rules, it's just a material anchor for the Emission of Hide n' Seek. Now if Knov were to try to incorporate Special Rules with only 40% Prof then he'd have an extremely difficult if not nigh impossible task ahead of him.
The size of Knov's Mansion is pretty impressive meaning he's clearly dedicated some training to effectively leverage his 40% ConProf.

For starters Countdown is canonically a group ability. This is not up to debate.
The Bomber is a group of 3 people, and Sub and Bara have no other abilities to speak of.
Since Countdown was said to require powerful Emission and Manipulation, it's easy to assume Sub was an Emitter and Bara was a Manipulator (or vice-versa).

Moreover, Abengane describing Countdown as "powerful Nen" (STRONG NEN), is perfectly consistent with what we come to learn later about group abilities.
Look at the aura output of a single bomb. Genthru conjured 60 of these at once.
Either Genthru was an Ultimate-level Conjurer with Netero levels of aura reserves (which we know he isn't), or Countdown was simply a group Nen ability, which we know it is.
>>

Ok, got me there, Countdown is a group ability or at least has a group component within the ability. Non-debatable.

I presented a reasonable speculation backed with sources as speculation and you're malding calling it headcanon and intelectually dishonest.
Let's present some facts:
- Countdown is a group ability;
- it's said to be well balanced with 3 categories (Emission, Manipulation and Conjuration);
- the Bomber is actually 3 people;
- Genthru is the Conjurer.
Put two and two together, anon.

>"If fullfilling muh conditions" is all that matters, why is it harder to dispell a curse with 20 years of accumulated aura on it?
Because you are once again trying to apply a "rule" of conjuration that was proven wrong with Potclean, to other categories of nen. No, hologram cope doesn't exist and LSDF reinforces the idea that absolute traits can be achieved through conjuration.

The actual problem with Furykov's interaction with Beyond's curse is two-fold. One, he has the most lenient conditions for analysis of the 3 corresponding abilities in the series. Binolt has to use a specific pair of scissors, cut his target's hair (a specific location) and then ingest said hair. Then he gets to analyze the body of his target as he chose that due to his cannibalism.

Kurapika's Stealth Dolphin can analyze abilities he's taken, but only after sucking up the aura of the target and only when Kurapika stakes his life on the ability due to Emperor Time.

Furykov just needs to whip out his laptop. Select someone, and then stand next to them to analyze their power. It's completely passive as opposed to Rihan's Predator, and there's no need to contest the target in a fight or expose Furykov to risk greater than being within an unspecified amount of distance. No shot FMA requires more time based on ability complexity. Kurapika accepts the risk of death if he steals an ability that's too complex to activate immediately.

On top of that, Furykov's FMA also acts as both an exorcism ability and a Buffing ability. So he likely takes a hit to his analysis time because he can benefit or eliminate the purpose of the target ability, and it seems far more safely than someone like abengane since he doesn't need a nen beast to do it.

In short. You STRONG NEN fags still can't prove why Izunavi wasn't wrong when Knuckle's ability was introduced. And treat all nen like it's conjuration when things like teleportation and manipulation have been shown to not care about this.
>>
>>289675410

There is no problem with this. The problem is then you make a giant logical leap to say this is why Genthru's bombs have infinite range.

Just because an emitter helped make them doesn't mean the bombs aren't conjured.

So then you make another headcanon leap and say Bara is constantly emitting his aura halfway across the world to maintain them.

Do you see how your 1 pinch of acceptable speculation snowballs out of control?

You don't need active maintaining.
If the aura was emitted by a Conjurer, it loses effectiveness and power over time. If it was emitted by an Emitter, it doesn't. Or at least not to a comparable degree.

This is just consistent with what we know about the categories. Nothing snowballing out of control.

Kurapika needs Emperor Time at the time he Conjures and releases it (Emission).
Once it's there, it doesn't need active maintaining, and it doesn't lose effectiveness over time as so many cases with Conjuration abilities.

On the topic of abilities that analyze capabilities. So far this seems to also fall into the specialization camp although Meruem becomes an interesting example because he was able to reverse-engineer Youpi's rage blast, but he himself had never seen it before. I've long theorized that information about hatsu is contained in aura, so Meruem as an emitter consuming aura would allow him to also "read" any information stored in it from his victims. So this also might be a case of multiple categories achieving the same results and there being 3 specialists with analysis powers might just be a coincidence.
>>
>>289675856
>Not true. 11 heroes is an emitted aura that is directly stated to have range because it is emitted aura
We know for example that Knov teleportation ability have continent-scale range.
So for a master emitter it can be a very long range.

Well for example, we know that transmuters are not good with emission.
On the other hand Machi is a transmuter, she used her aura-thread to mark Uvogin, and she seemed very confident in being able to track him until Kurapika discovered the nen thread and removed the needle.
So her nen thread has at least a few kilometers of range until they were able to reach them with the car.

He's supposed to be here on espionage, to determine Kurapika and Bill's abilities, and to find out Woble's Guardian Spirit Beast. He was having a hard time because Woble's GSB hasn't shown itself (for obvious reasons), he came in with preconceptions of what Bill and Kurapika's abilities could do (restrain Vincent and force a confession), and Kurapika is VERY reserved about showing his ability in public, plus five chains on five fingers hints at multiple abilities.

That's why Furykov was also deployed to 1014, to support him. But with Halkenburg and Camilla on a rampage Furykov was recalled and redeployed elsewhere, leaving Babimyna alone. 1014 became a lesser target since Kurapika is more interested in defense through the Nen classes, and now again with Woble being MIA. Special martial law shouldn't really affect Kurapika and Oito so long as Babimyna keeps an eye on them.

Thinking about it, transmutation simply lends itself for patching people up due to the minute control there is over aura. In that sense, anyone with some proficiency in it could "heal" without being a transmuter or wasting a hatsu.
>>
>>289676890
It depends. Enhancement also enhances the body's natural healing capability, like when Kurapika used Healing Chain to stop the swelling and repair the bone Uvogin broke. It's not Furykov that's using the curse. It's Beyond's curse, Furykov has no control over it. Longhi expressed the same, she doesn't like that her father is using his children as sacrificial pawns to kill people, with no say in the matter.

Furykov is worried that the curse Beyond set on him will target Benjamin.

Beyond placed the curse on Furykov when Furykov was born, and the curse steadily fed off Furykov's own Nen and grew in strength for 20 years. When Furykov's target prince underwent the Seed Urn Ceremony the curse was activated and became visible on his tongue. The curse is Beyond's Nen.

All Beyond has to do is trigger it to make it work.
>>
>>289661568
This is a case of Viz translation fuckery. Viz incorrectly suggests that the silhouette icon displayed by FMA is the curse user themself.
The case, rather, is that Beyond has specifically designed the curse in such a way to obscure its target.
Furykov activates FMA.
Checks Status.
FMA alerts Furykov that something is affecting him; FMA can also apparently match the 'signature' of the Nen and alert him to persons connected to his curse.
Specifically, FMA communicates that the Nen Furykov has been affected by has a target.
FMA does NOT alert Furykov to every individual curse-child, it locks on to the fingerprint of his own curse in particular.
With all this mind, FMA does NOT alert Furykov to the source of the curse. It seems source identification is not a function of FMA.
