Why are girls in yuri always smooth and waxed down there? Am I supposed to believe that they're all meticulously grooming themselves every week or just naturally like that? It would be hotter if they waxed/shaved each other. Yukiko knows.

Why can't Japanese deliver? Mahoako proves it has a market

Probably fear of alienating the mainstream audience.
The best chance would be a dedicated magazine like Yuri Hime starting more acting series or some mahou shoujo. Make something like Symphogear/Nanoha but deliver on the yuri front, then one day it could get an anime adaptation.

I like the idea of Lycoreco more than the actual execution. The show was at its peak whenever Chisato and Takina were together doing stuff and being able to play off each other with their great chemistry but then it just starts meandering plotwise, any interesting tension is wiped away with magical concussive rounds and superhuman powers, the villains suck and have retarded motivations. It's Nanoha/LN-tier "if I keep introducing random bullshit that means I'm writing good right" I think there's an appetite for anime girls with guns doing cool shit but nobody besides gachasloppers and the otherwise incompetent are answering the call.
A few threads back somebody lamented that the yakuza became irrelevant thanks to heavy crime crackdowns before yuri got big. You could say the same for yuri just coming right after the late 90s/early 2000s obsession with gunslinging action heroines. If only we had a fraction of people writing yuri action thrillers from the horde of bodies being hurled at isekai and the menhera genre. Fuck's sake, Meiko Kaji was fucking women in prison in Japanese 70s grindhouse schlock.

Teren has momentum to his writing and good jokes.
The humor emerges from character dynamics while still being relevant to the main plot, the unorthodox observations feel like they come from a place that while being clearly a wacky funny world, it still has narrative weight that the characters take seriously, it strikes the perfect like between NOT just being some Manga Time Kirara gagfest with no weight, while also having characters with desires and wants that take themselves seriously in a way that's both an extension of jokes and also the bubbling human desire that's not being undermined (like a Kirara series). It's a really hard sweet spot to hit, and bigger than the sum of its parts.

>>
>>290522204
It's not a romantic conclusion ending, but it's not breaking the status quo of having Vigne in love with Gab either, the author has done a few yuri doujin of the series though, the last one was literally about the universe where Vigne is the one lazying around and angel Gab accidentally makes her cum in the bath.

Still is, but even ignoring the politization of the west yuri has turned into its own heavily codified genre. Obviously there's still stuff like Mahoako, but in general shameless fanservice slop (be it media mix, manga or LNs) just go straight for the male self-insert.

She was a very "yaoi seme"-like character and a lot of the female fans weren't even normally into yuri. Almost like if you did more stuff like that with "princely but also busty & feminine" girls you could expand yuri's audience significantly.

The issue with Uzamaid is that the manga went untranslated for years and when it did translated it was mostly nonsense and I literally meant nonsense, you have chapters of the MC and her glass friends drawing comics and it's literally the author coming up with random stuff, it's not really the most yurish manga from an author who clearly loves yuri.

No, Yuri Hime is mostly male fans now too; that was in the past. Thank you for the Marimite source though; "it is said" wording isn't exactly official numbers but, honestly, I would not be too surprised since I never came across a lot of female fans of it. Same goes for stuff like Bloom Into You, really. What I'm getting to here is that I think there's a big potential female fanbase for yuri among the fujo & TL manga crowd which you could tap into that tends to like "trashier" & more erotic/less "cute & pure" stuff. There are probably more female fans of goddamn Namaniku than there are ones for "approved, true, non-fetishized" series propped up by people who claim Citrus is "male gaze".

That 70-30 split is 70% men. I'm saying Citrus has a mostly male audience too. Something being trashy and erotic doesn't seem to attract a female audience when NTR Trap is exactly like ctirus in the same kind of trashy and less cute way and it has an overwhelmingly male audience from official event photos. It even had extra female appeal of having two attractive guys in the cast unlike citrus, yet it did nothing. Meanwhile, plently of series published in male magazines have erotic fan service as well.

Netsuzou Trap is overwhelmingly dude-focused I know, but even if Kodama Naoko added some girly elements it's ultimately still a softcore cuck porn manga for dudes. If you look at a manga site with a sizable female userbase you get stuff like

https://www.cmoa.jp/title/customer_review/title_id/98636/?site_kbn=1
vs
https://www.cmoa.jp/title/customer_review/title_id/75176/?site_kbn=1

https://www.cmoa.jp/title/312320/ Nonke Onna has way more reviews than Netsuzou Trap too, reached very high popularity in both "women's manga" and "TL manga" sections (funnily enough the author never even added a "yuri" tag on that site) and the Pixiv previews have immensely more favorites from women than men (way more than any "pure" yuri series for "hardcore yuri fans"). Author very early on expected it to be a cuck manga for dudes despite more or less drawing what she liked, but dudes did not care and her fujo fanbase told her to basically never have dudes appear at all. DLSite reviews are also mostly women and some are like "why is this not in the women's section, I'm confused". Lots on both sites say "I normally don't like yuri because it's too cutesy, but-"

Not just Cmoa, on Mechacomic you also see mostly reviews from the BL/TL manga crowd for stuff like Mira manga; like the majority. Really it's too common to dismiss.

I'm not sure what you're going off of here when NTR Trap is in the TL section just like that series. I mean, it has muh shoujo rapechad that I've been constantly assured all women love. But I would hardly compare either outlier example of one h-doujin to one of the best selling yuri works. Plus anyone (or any bot) can claim to be a woman on an online site compared to actual analytics or photo evidence.
>>
>>290523050
This is just a question of how people get to know those works in the first place anon, of course a magazine with most male demographic will have more men commenting on their works than an obscure doujin made by an artist with most female demographic follows.
>>
Overall split(in JP) in close to 50:50.
Mixed gender events tend to get less women for obvious reasons.
Women only events exist.
The gender split is also felt in medium with anime getting more men and live action getting more women.

Dudes LARPing as women don't leave a million reviews for BL manga, dummy; they're gonna LARP as lesbians and not have taste that perfectly mirrors those of random fangirls. This is "taking the 'girls don't exist on the internet' meme dead seriously"-tier delusion at this point A clearly more male-centric, moe series like Asumi-chan on Cmoa will have far more male reviews compared to the stuff I'm talking about.
>>290523170
But Namaniku, Yukataro, Mira have a ton of male fans too and their yuri still gets a ton of attention from women.

What about all the ones who ship girls together in shonen series, or draw a lot of genderbend art of yaoi pairs, or stuff like Yoroizuka-san being in shoujo/josei mags etc.

Rokuroichi's smut manga that you find on sites like Dynasty now doesn't originally come from her own yuri anthologies... it came from a mostly-hetero josei porn mag. And it must have had enough fans to get physical volume releases of just those stories.

This is what I mean. I can swear there was some anon on /u/ talking about how Asumi was also popular with girls because it focused on the intimacy rather than the bodies or something. All this ever boils down to is that "[series I like] is for girls because reasons. look at these random internet anecdotes!" and that series doesn't count because other reasons.

Anon, you need to chill down on magazine demographics, earlier in the thread anons were talking about how Hiro who the west claims is the male gaze apocalypse got a serialization in a josei magazine, the truth is that most magazines are much more worried if they want to publish a story about girls in love with other girls than any argument you can come up with.

Not only does it have a roughly 42% female audience based on the first review page, it's also published as a 女性マンガ series. That anon could make the claim that "actually it is popular just as popular with girls as is with guys" using your standards but you've already said you don't agree with that.

Well, I'm considering that sites like the ones I'm talking about simply have more female users in general given series like Black Lagoon are also mostly reviews from women. So when a yuri series has more male reviews than female reviews despite that, you know it's pretty male-centric. But maybe I'm wrong about this? Not a hill I'd die on.

Okay yeah scratch that final comment in my last post; I was 100% right and this his clearly an OVERWHELMINGLY female website. Look at the reviews on Berserk (clear woman appeal but also clear male appeal) https://www.cmoa.jp/title/customer_review/title_id/58155/?site_kbn=1 and look at the top-reviewed "seinen manga" https://www.cmoa.jp/search/result/?genre_id=0000013&sort=15, look at the top shonen manga in general https://www.cmoa.jp/search/result/?genre_id=0000012&sort=15 etc

...but this only enforces my point because "pure and sweet hand holding, core yuri fan" series like Yagakimi and "sexual, but not objectifying & male gaze" series like Asumi-chan are either obscure or mainly read by men on that site. Meanwhile "trashier" stuff gets way more attention and higher ratings.

>Unless you're going to link the actual pages, it's useless to discuss it.
Actual pages of what? I talked about a ton of stuff in that tl;dr-ass post.

>Then your own example falls flat with NTR Trap which has the same ratio (>女性/ 31 match vs. >男性/ 4(!) matches) as the first manga you brought up, yet you insist just like that one /u/ anon in reverse that it's definitely a manga for a guys because of the moralistic pretense that it's "overwhelmingly dude-focused".
Because Netsuzou Trap, on this overwhelmingly woman-driven website, has like 37 reviews which is immensely less than even Nonke Onna let alone something like Citrus and if you look at the ratings, many of the reviewers don't even like it very much. Eve's Medicine, an obscure-ass oneeloli porn manga, has more reviews AND a higher rating. Netsuzou Trap has an anime, clearly it's more popular, and even Pixiv official art doesn't have women bookmarking it.

According to review, the reason that manga is so popular on that website is because the first volume was free to read and it was explicitly pushed unlike NTR Trap, which is a decade old series. Out of all the Netsuzou Trap reviews 31 are female, and out of those 6 of them are 1/5 or 2/5 so those didn't even like it, 8 are 3/5 so "it's ok", leaving only 20 who really liked it. Add on top of that "why would the few women who do like it want to go to a public event for a cuck fetish manga with mostly male fans?"
>The website has a certain slant in its userbase that clearly is not representative of the wider anime fanbase
Which I acknowledged: it's basically a woman website, which doesn't really go against my point because I AM judging it as a woman website.
>websites where more people claim to be women
Again, are you saying the website's slant towards typical woman tastes is all one big larp? A bunch of dudes pretending to be huge fans of BL and josei smut?

I could have shut my mouth since you didn't notice it, but I will correct myself because I was full of shit about YagaKimi on Cmoa; it didn't do as well as Citrus (or Nonke Onna...) but it did do pretty well https://www.cmoa.jp/title/customer_review/title_id/104785/

...on the other hand, 25 of the reviews are from men, while only 9 of the Nonke Onna reviews are from men *despite it having more reviews*. Only 5 of Eve's Medicine's gendered reviews are from men, meaning 11%. And again, check Mira reviews on Mechacomic, and who the people writing them are. So like... I dunno, does this really mean nothing that these random porn manga just happen to attract a large BL/TL reader audience, often beating out more traditional yuri series?

You're calling NTR Trap a cuck manga when your smut manga also has a NTR plotline, you know? What I am saying is that the particular audience of that website is slanted towards certain kinds of series which aren't representative of the broader trends of the industry. This (western) websites always has yuri more popular with girls, are you really going to say that yuri is more popular in the west with girls because of garbage polls like this? Just like the audience of cmao might tend to more fujo-looking yuri.

But even if I accept your website, do you know what yuri series are even more popular and an overwhelming female ratio than those smut manga you keep bringing up? /au/'s least two favourites:

that goes against your earlier narrative that women don't like "pure and sweet hand holding" yuri.

>This (western) websites always has yuri more popular with girls, are you really going to say that yuri is more popular in the west with girls because of garbage polls like this?
No because you know VERY WELL what kind of identity is much more popular on Reddit than it is on the Japanese internet. I already addressed this! >>290523489
>that goes against your earlier narrative that women don't like "pure and sweet hand holding" yuri.
Neither of those are cutesy moe stuff so my point stands. I have nothing against the green manga and I understand its popularity (also of course it does better than all that smut manga, or even something like Citrus, because it's not very sexual so straight women can be more comfortable reading it).

TsukuTabe I do think is lame. Beyond the basic "Japan likes cooking/food manga" appeal (probably the main driving factor here), it feels more like a "diversity manga" for normies who want to learn about "the queer community" than something for "yuri fans". But you're right that it could definitely be considered "yuri that exists outside of the 'core yuri' category" and that, yes, having more stuff like that would get more people into manga/anime lesbians and even make yuri totally mainstream, because it's a manga centered on a yuri pairing that went way beyond otaku appeal. The difference is that I LIKE the "fujo-looking yuri", and I don't like this, so I'd rather have more otaku-driven stuff with fujo-appeal being made instead. I doubt your average TsukuTabe fan would even read Citrus.

Now, after ALL the stuff I pointed out, do you think there's no female fujo/TL/shoujo smut audience there to appeal more to, and create more yuri buyers? That all the people within that crowd I noticed who seem open to yuri, and enjoy specific things, but don't have enough stuff that appeals to their specific tastes, are simply guys pretending and/or a completely irrelevant demographic?

Your justifications for why that poll doesn't count is just more rationalizing based on anecdotes. The same reasons you earlier dismissed YagaKimi for being artificially pushed by a certain type of person in the west are the same reasons you admit that Green Manga and TsukuTabe are so popular in Japan.

>neither of those are cutesy moe stuff that are not very sexual plus diversity
Yet even in Japan, Marimite was like that too and the audience was majority guys, even on that website. Meanwhile Kase-san is super moe and it has a 12% male audience on CMOA. As for whether an audience exists: I am sure it does to some extent, but I just don't see it transferring to any mainstream success. If such an audience existed in wide numbers, you would expect to see more of it in josei/shoujo magazines, but we really don't.

>same reasons you earlier dismissed YagaKimi for being artificially pushed by a certain type of person in the west are the same reasons you admit that Green Manga and TsukuTabe are so popular in Japan
Not really, because Yagakimi is "pure" for otaku-pandering reasons, green manga is just not a very erotic work, while Tsukutabe is "pure" for "male gaze is toxic and harmful and all bodies are beautiful and men are pigs and-" reasons. I think people who make those claims are projecting ideology over those other two series, but not so much for Tsukutabe. It really is a series for them.
>Yet even in Japan, Marimite was like that too and the audience was majority guys, even on that website.
Come on, you know very well Marimite is totally different from a manga that schools you on "the asexual spectrum" and cishet male microaggressions.
>Meanwhile Kase-san is super moe and it has a 12% male audience on CMOA
No, it's modern shoujo style. There are similarities since moe was born from shoujo but it's not the same thing. Actually, I suspect Marimite is just one of those shoujo series that REALLY caught on with male otaku and in the process influenced moe, despite itself not being moe.
>As for whether an audience exists: I am sure it does to some extent, but I just don't see it transferring to any mainstream success
I want otaku success, not mainstream success, because mainstream success would mean Tsukutabe.
>If such an audience existed in wide numbers, you would expect to see more of it in josei/shoujo magazines, but we really don't.
Maybe you don't see it enough because of preconceptions among male editors of what women like. Even 7menzippo, a woman into lewdly exaggerated yuri, thought Nonke Onna would appeal mainly to men when she started & it turned out to be the opposite. I'm saying "they should try doing this more and really hone in on this demographic" to begin with because it has not been tried enough yet.

I want to write more but no room so gimme a sec-

Okay I kinda NEEDED to add something about Tsukutabe >>290524683 after looking closer at the Cmoa page

A better way to use Japanese user reviews as a sample of public reception is to check out which ones have the most likes, and whether they are negative - because many people won't bother leaving a negative review, and will simply "upboat" the one that most accurately represents their criticisms. For Nonke Onna, the top-rated reviews are positive. But guess what... the top-rated Tsukutabe reviews (with a LOT of likes, a number that would hugely lower the userscore if those people bothered writing individual reviews) are overwhelmingly 1/5s. Some are "man, I didn't know this would turn into lesbianism... not my thing", but the main criticism (often from BL/TL fans funnily enough, and all from women) is "man, this manga sure is full of identity politics, anti-male screeds and ideological grievances. You do you, but that ain't my cup of tea". So I'm not just being a culture war weirdo... the manga going all-in with Twitter politics IS, in fact, alienating to a decent amount of its target audience.

Don't waste too much time on kana, learning kanji will reinforce them anyway. The anki deck I got from djt a decade ago was more than sufficient for kanji and vocabulary, it's probably still there. Once you have a vocabulary of 500-1500 words you can start reading. Straight foward romance without scifi, fantasy, or other niche subjects is the easiest.
Once you get to reading I'd also recommend being okay with not understanding things all the time. As long as you think you've got the gist of what's going on that's good enough at first, if you constantly have to look up every word you don't understand or know how to pronounce you won't be able to enjoy what you're reading.
Voiced VNs on slow auto read are one of the most effective ways to learn pronunciations and reinforce grammar. Toonshub has Japanese subs on some of their releases, but otherwise you'll get surprisingly little out of watching anime.
Don't focus on being able to convert sentences to English, that's a distraction, just focus on understanding them.

It depends on what "for females" mean

Is it to describe the audience it ends up with
Is it in Japan, or other countries (East Asia, or the West)

For example, do you know in Japan Gintama, Conan etc have a majority female fan base? PreCure and Super Sentai (RIP) are actually very close to 5:5 ?
Idols like Love Live, BanG Dream, AKB are 8:2 mtf but Project Sekai, non-AKB idols etc have more female fans?

It is very complex so I am surprised anons all have different perspectives on it, without actual data.

It has nothing to do with trannies beyond them being attached to the same root issue, but you're too blind to see it because it would involve trigger words like gender constructs and other wokeisms that might send you into a tizzy if we had a real conversation about. Suffice to say men are insecure about partaking in a genre that has always been treated like walled garden for fictional women and /au/'s common behavior of weaponizing yuri or treating yuri as a statement against heterosexuality is a catalyst of it. Therefore the more "feminine" a work or its appeal is the higher perceived quality it's given. Feminine itself being a highly subjective assessment. We'd do best to ignore all the pedantry.

Yuri creators need to stop doing the prince shit and focus on feminine girls

I just checked the RTs to some random popular Watanare art and "that group" was just as omnipresent as I expected

Are you completely artstyle blind? That's obviously not Sakuragi Ren.

Are you having a stroke?
>>
Sakuragi Ren is just a dollar store Takeshima Eku
>>
>>290526538
True

You brought them up to attack me, I used your weapon against you. try again

There's an actual dollar store Eku fanartist, YoruNeko.
>>
>>290526574
Sakuragi's manga art mogs Eku's but her writing is worse
>>
>>290526505
I never see trannies on twitter, because I don't go looking for them. Your algorithm betrays you, twittertranny.
>>
>>290526658
I just checked retweets on some art because you said they hate Watanare. They don't even hate MahoAko.
>>
>>290526109
i dont remember seeing a Taki similar character in BL
>>
>>290526238
it's mostly males, you have some young girls
the real life concerts usually have separate areas for women
>>
>>290526680
>you
I think you are both schizos for caring about troons so much and thinking they are a hive mind.
>>
>>290526658

trannies are not one person, you have the perverted transexual vs purity anti sex trannies
>>
Looks like America woke up
>>
>>290526832
Yep. Whenever someone can't shut up about trans shit. You know it's the mutts
>>
>>290526816
I had a yuri twitter and did a demographics poll. they all were pretty big fans of worksafe art while women overwhelmingly came for porn

Planning to shill PreCure next thread.
Anything anons would like to know that I should cover?
>>
>>290526690
Taki's pretty much those "angsty lone wolf" characters you see in a lot of yaoi ships regardless of said ship's canonicity (Yamato from Digimon, Sasuke Uchiha, Soma in God Eater, Levi in AoT, Todoroki in MHA, etc.) and those types are ALWAYS popular among fujos.
>>
>>290526976
I don't think anyone needs anything about Precure besides a list of the yuriful seasons.
>>
>>290526711
Surprised to see a franchise Yuri Company Bushiroad's President Kidani envisioned to attract an older audience ends up attracting teenages again
They are even selling ultra cheap tickets for under 16 and I saw someone I followed asking about the payment methods - I had no idea they are that young
>>
>>290527004
I am more thinking focusing on current series

She's at least Yamato-level edgy. Honestly reminded me of him a lot when watching MyGo.
