Honestly I would say Elie is like two half characters, the gun tonfa wielding eccentric girl, and the etherion using plot device, sometimes they work out as a single complete character, and sometimes she's just half of a character.

So far, I think Rave Master has shown the friendship between the characters more, but I actually miss Fairy Tail's fanservice and better art. Other than that I think it has the same problems. Enemy attacks always deal cosmetic damage, power of friendship, etc etc.
