I'm not sure I'm a fan of Keroro's new voice... I know its not TOO different from his old one but it sounds a little too boyish and youthful to me.. Kumiko Watanabe's portrayal was high-pitched like this but still felt like the middle-aged man he was meant to be somehow...!Still, I'm not going to complain about getting new Sgt Frog again. Hopefully the writing is up to scratch; the animation looks nice at least!

Series composition Writer of the new anime is Toshimitsu Takeuchi, who also wrote for the original anime starting from the fourth season, including the hilarious episode where Natsumi and Keroro's mother switched bodies and then Giroro ends up going on a date with Keroro's mother in Natsumi's body. He also wrote the one where Copy Robot Tamama replaced Tamama and Tamama tries to prove the Copy Robot is an impostor, only to start feeling like he's going crazy and he is the copy robot as no one seemingly believes him.He also wrote some serious episodes, like one with Momoka locked in a timeloop or the Mutsumi/Natsumi final focus episode in the last season of the original anime.The Chief director is Nobuhiro Kondo, who directed the original anime starting from the 3rd season. Should I watch the original series before even considering touching a remake?

Like in season 7 they actually went back and adapted the scene with Natsumi's top falling once she goes from adult back to teen in the bikini contest. There’s 15 years of manga material that came after the anime ended and they’re already tapping into some of it just based on the trailer. Bandai seems to not have a long-running hyper- merchandisable kids IP right now, particularly one that they can use to push Gunpla to a younger audience, so I guess they’re hoping Keroro can pull it off a second time. As a bonus there’s now a whole generation of otaku adults who grew up with the original and will whale out for all the gashapon accessories and boilerplate acrylic tchotchkes anime get these days.

Completely unrelated to the new anime, but I just learned there was a SECOND short shown alongside movie 4 (which is probably why it was so short and even had scenes in the promos cut from the movie).But it was a Battle Spirits Toppa Bashin crossover, so its distribution is very uneven and only on some Japanese streaming services, never getting included in disc releases.
