Tanaka being really nervous with the way Saki handled the models and figurines is the kind of contrast that you wouldn't really understand unless you tried making a model yourself. That gap between the normie and otaku mind also makes for good drama and gags like with the model only being about $8.

I joined a manga circle during my exhange studies at a Japanese university and their room instantly reminded me of Genshiken when I entered it for the first time. Incredibly romantic place where you could open a locker or inspect a cardboard box only to find something from 20 years ago in them. Oldest doujnshi published by them were from the 70s, over 50 years old, meaning that their creators are in their 70s by now. You could see the ebb and flow of various manga styles as you read from oldest works to latest. Cleaning a room like that would be sacrilege.
