Someone get that marco copypasta ready because it applies here. though this is really the last time we see Marco get a proper 1v1 fight in the series. Personally I’m glad, because Craig is the perfect final opponent for him and each Marco fight has the same setup so it was wearing a bit thin. It’s a good culmination for Marco and his alter ego as rodemu as well

Also I agree, Robert K is fucking awesome and him & Suteguma working as a pair in a gamble is the number 1 story beat I'm looking forward to if/when Usogui 2 is made. Both for the utter kino of Suteguma slowly coming to the realisation that his brother looking down on him was the other half of the catalyst for his revelation that his circumstances were unfair, thereby accepting that luck can be on his side, relying on it at a critical moment during the gamble to secure the win, & having a properly tearful reunion with Robert K who can now accept the reality of his sneer, and the sheer (completely deserved) popularity this will bring Ks way
I think it's funny to think that Martin is one of the most deadly character of the Usogui universe. His ability to use traps and improvised weapons is out of this world, the AED + nailgun combo was supremely deadly and he only only lost because his fetish kicked in so hard that he deleted 99% of his brain cells and shot himself in the foot. If he hadn't crippled himself, wouldn't he have straight up murdered everyone on the floor? He says he's killed 86 "Nicolas" and since he kills Non-Nicolas people then this "comic relief" funny killer has a kill count in the 100+ digits. While nerfing himself. What the fuck.

Also what happened in StL was his natural "karmic" memory loss, where he again demonstrates his perfection by only forgetting the events of the day, rather than whole months or even years

However, his StL instance of his karma only took Souichis memories of the day it occurred, not the months it would've normally taken. This demonstrates that Souichi now has a proper handle on his karma, and while it may not be gone entirely, it will never again take his most precious memories from him>I'll go re-read those air poker chapters though, I probably am misremembering something there.Understatement of the century

>>291036646I mean I reread it and yeah you're right, I definitely forgot what happened in Air Poker, but him being able to freely manipulate his memories is still inconsistent with him losing his memory in StL. That inconsistency might be why I didn't really remember that.Either way, I just don't think Air Poker or StL ever feel as neck and neck as the tower of karma. Putting Lalo, who's not super impressive in the first place, up against not just Baku but also Leader is just such a mismatch there's not much tension. I give StL a little bit more of a pass since the whole thing going 100% exactly according to his plan is the culmination of basically an entire series' worth of preparation, so it doesn't feel like he just showed up and won.

It's one of my earliest tropes I loved too as well, I remember crying over Dian Wei from Dynasty Warriors during the Orochi campaign in WO2. It broke my heart when he was last on the popularity poll. There's something about earnest loyalty that activates my heart really strongly. That might seem silly in the grand scheme of things in Usogui but I think Sako did it very nicely with Marco. The first 3 rounds of air poker, when the rules aren't clear, showcase this best with him barely caring about solving the rules, just vibing and trying to straight up kill Baku, then without any fear gamble on the calamity to turn the tide. After that it's fully into Baku's territory and he dwindled as a result

In air poker he fights through it to accept his mistake so he can win, it's one of the best moments in the manga. His memory loss coming back in the final gamble is tragic though
