It's interesting that Opa is a criminal, the dude looks like your stereotypical elf noble. Also, Helki should have a bigger panel. I wonder what his nickname is.

Being a noble makes it easier to find out about and start using forbidden magic, maybe

Yeah, the story must be much easier to follow if you personally know at least three of the characters.

What's up with twins getting those stupid names just like Kiki and Kaka? Also Yugin a cute.

Kiki and Kaka are just placeholders names equivalent to BBBB and AAAA.
Because the party you initially get in Wizardry fucking sucks you have to create a bunch of characters until you roll good stats, and then you steal the gold and gear of the leftovers to buy decent stuff for your actual party.
Their names and the fact that they were abandoned in a tavern references that.

>Laios thinks humans win out over monsters for once
It's always nice that Laios's monster autism is still tuned, for as much as he idolizes them, towards being realistic. He treats them more seriously than a lot of the cast does and considers them as their own beings, rather than just avatars for some issue or a simple obstacle to be overcome and never thought about again.
>>
>>291285583
Huh. I kinda have the opposite problem. I don't really desire anything that much, and it's making me lazy.

Memes aside, it's interesting how the changelings allow for subtle, visual characterization in a way that was not obvious with the characters' normal designs.

Kabru's pretty-boy-ness is MUCH more obvious as an elf, whereas Mithrun is revealed to be a pretty manly elf given how his tallman form looks. Same goes for Senshi and Chilchuck. Senshi has the only facial hair we ever see on an Elf, pretty sure, which emphasizes just how manly of a dwarf he is (his tallman form does to on the cover gallery of them). Meanwhile Chilchuck looks exactly like some middle aged bum of a father as a tallman too, something you can't tell at all from his normal half-foot form.

It's really neat and only shows up visually and completely doesn't matter for the story, but it's rewarding to be able to notice this stuff.

> So it didn't eat your desire for revenge
It's as if the demon can eat entire classes of desires, rather than specific desires, which makes sense.
Like it can eat your desire to eat food generally, it doesn't just have to eat your desire to eat food today or a specific kind of food. The demon left his desire for revenge the same way he left the rest of his body, partly eaten, table scraps.

I hope they make a good juxtaposition between the ideal and the reality
>>
>>291286046
This is the chapter I realised I like Kabru.
Before now he doesn't seem that likeable, interesting, or noble.
This chapter he has a real challenge and learns more about the captain with us, and also about the true nature of the winged lion and what Laios is getting himself into.
And there's that dark thought too, you realise killing Laios would maybe be justified, he really is meddling with things that he shouldn't be, and you can tell Kabru is struggling with the decision and his will to do what he thinks is right.

>Senshi has the only facial hair we ever see on an Elf, pretty sure, which emphasizes just how manly of a dwarf he is
Reminder: This is how Senshi is portrayed as an elf. In addition to refusing to carry stuff because it's 'heavy'.
Even putting that aside, I think it's mentioned explicitly that Senshi is kind of a sissy for a dwarf. His initial miner group and Namari look down on him for not being into dwarven things like smithing and not taking care of his equipment. Being into cooking and using an adamant shield as a wok doesn't help that image.
>>
>>291286987
>Senshi has the only facial hair we ever see on an Elf, pretty sure, which emphasizes just how manly of a dwarf he is
no, the shrooms probably just preserve some traits (possibly randomly) and the resulting forms may not be "legal" specimens of the race.
Elves don't come with black hair either, for example, it takes half-elf ancestry to have that
And not how halfling Senshi is not masculine built unit at all, the opposite

I don't think they can fit in the same episode, as I see it and taking into account season one so far it would be
EP1: On Floor One (Parts 1 to 3)
EP2: Bicorn + Stewed Head
EP3: Succubus (1+2) + Winged Lion (A little tight but it can be an extra long episode)
EP4: Roasted Walking Mushroom + Six Days
They also could have episode 3 being just the succubi, ep 4 being lion + mushroom, and EP5 being this chapter + the next one, but in any case Laios' dream and Mithrun's revelation would be in different episodes.

It was an era before the era of eras and the fight was splendid and terrible and then the ancients [insert 99 names here] did a thing and none of this is important to the current plot. Now Frodo sings a song and they feel homesick about their homes but that's interrupted by something interesting that will only last a page before another lore dump.

Maybe you should try reading the Hobbit instead, also the Silmarillion might give you a stroke.
>>
>>291284905
The skill Kabru possesses which Laios lacks, is the ability to view himself objectively, recognizing that he is an outlier and that others do not necessarily share his interests. He understands the futility of unilaterally gushing about his own hobbies.
It is a tricky question whether this stems from the difference between a "human enthusiast" and a "monster enthusiast," or simply from a difference in personal learning.

>Milsiril
>going to the mission clutching a plushie
This girl is not okay. She was thrust from childhood into child soldierhood and never successfully recovered from the blow.

That's why she wants to provide urchins and orphans with a safe fluffy childhood but since she's a hurt child inside that didn't get to grow up properly, she struggles to actually give them the right things, desperately trying with the few "tools" she knows, like toys and cake.
>>
What if instead of killing the guy, say we just talk to him instead.

Crazy, I know but I think the century old elves (And the honorary elf called Kabru) can manage to learn
>>
>>291284884
Someone pointed out earlier that one of the Canaries had the same marking as Cithis, but we see here that it's a different elf named Yugin.
>>
>>291284864
It's interesting to see what Kui lists as ingredients of a story. I like that "theme" is also part of those. I wonder how many manga authors nowadays have actual themes in mind when they aim for a new series. I'm not saying that DM is doing something groundbreaking here, I just think that many series that make it big do seem to have that effort put in to be able to have a conversation on that level, as opposed to your average axebait.
>>
>>291285858
This page represents a genuine plot twist, the reader is already aware of Laios's inherent goodness. When Kabru argues that "he shouldn't become the Dungeon Lord," it doesn't strike the reader as a particularly dire prospect. After his dialogue with the Lion, and while sensing a subtle, unsettling vibe from the creature, Laios contemplates the concrete benefits of conquering the dungeon.
However, the revelation that "distorted desires that regardless of whether, they are good or evil, serve as 'food for the dungeon'" makes the reader realize that Laios is the absolute last person who should become the Dungeon Lord. It is a truly grim payoff for the title *Dungeon Meshi (Food)*.

Interesting take. Though it helps to have a plushie around, when puppeteering seems to be her magic specialty, as seen in Kabru's memories last chapter.
>>
>>291287474
The problem is I think the elves have lived so long they've run into many short lived people who talking didn't work on. Imagine if you were a teacher of small children, but also not allowed to like, put kids in time out or send them to the principal or really inhibit them in anyway.

Imagine doing that for one hundred years. At some point you just go "fuck it, imma send the kids to gay baby jail and they can fucking cry about it." It's easy to think that even when elves try to be polite, something goes wrong and they end up having to use "the muscle" anyway, so why bother? It's like the problem of normal people becoming crotchety and inflexible in their old age: they've lived long enough that their perception of trying to be more understanding and work things out with people is full of all the times it just didn't work or fucked them over.

That said, this is just understanding them. They're still wrong, as shown by the fact that they still kind of fucked everything up, still treat people fairly miserably with no way to push back, and all of that. But it's not so simple that the elves are just thoughtless belligerents. It's genuinely hard to imagine most people who end up Laios's position being worth talking it out over. Hell, Mithrun already knew all of this and still fell.
>>
>>291287636
>makes the reader realize that Laios is the absolute last person who should become the Dungeon Lord.
is it really that much of a twist? I feel like most readers could extrapolate that Laios would be a dangerous DM because his passion for monsters and general dismissal of humans. Not really even factoring in his morality.
>>
>>291287437
It is just a guess, but perhaps the installation process requires a specialized practitioner who can do a task that familiars cannot handle.
Alternatively, there may be a restriction that imposed on either the scrolls or the dungeon itself, that prevents the mass introduction of new items, even if it is possible to extract things from the dungeon.
>>
>>291287754
>they've run into many short lived people who talking didn't work on
every DM we see is a elf/dwarf/gnome tho
>>
>>291285858
Goddamn, I got a chill
Worst part is that we've seen winged lion already succeeded in tempting Laios, and he's really a bundle of exotic desires, from making friendly monster, edible monster, a way to coexist with monster, and stuff
And winged lion already designed it in such a way that even the world he's shown isn't perfect, so as to make Laios desires for more
>>
>>291284905
I enjoy the meta level to the joke, that doubles as commentary on how to efficiently tell your story. I wonder if Kui had conversations like this with her editor and it stuck with her.

>>291287426
In this particular case, I think that the ability to analyze yourself and your impact on others stems directly from the nature of his field of interest, which is being able to read other persons and employ empathy in an analytical way. It comes as a bonus perk, so to speak.

it's just another layer to mithrun's character
on every level he's been dulled and blunted all except his memories surrounding his only remaining desire.
and so his recollection of his own story and every single detail remains razor sharp
and this is a contrast to Kabru, whose own existence is a side character in the lives of many people(especially the women). He has an innate sense of to what extent that most people can recall a story. And even when he tells others of his own story of being a survivor of Utaya, it's only a brief aside before he moves on with his life.

About 69% of what's written in adventure paths will go straight past your player's ears if you try to play it straight, they'll hyperfocus on their own interests (gathering 20 different animal/mascot niggers while tryna prevent Cthulu from rising from the oceans) completely ignoring every bit of detail that's laid out by writers or your own additions to the plot that isn't magical menagerie shenanigans.

Well, sure, but that fits too, don't it? They're overly worried about how the short lived races handle dungeons, but have yet to find a way to stop their own individuals from getting got. It's a perfectly natural set up that only pushes them to be more and more belligerent about it, secure in the knowledge this is the right way to handle it and, if anything, maybe they need to be more forceful and proactive. Clearly these "half measures" aren't working!
>>
>>291287988
I think it's hypothetical, given that if that had actually happened it would be even worse than Utaya and Mithrun starts out the story with 'it wasn't as bad as Utaya'. I don't think the demon managed to get completely out at Utaya and that's the worst disaster the Canaries have had so far

Kabaru is kind of meant to be reverse Laios, in that where Laios is the leader of his group and is a monster expert. Kabaru is a people expert

Kabaru's party is kind of meant to mirror Laios'. But it's also meant to highlight the importance of Laios' skill, as Kabaru is depicted as this killing machine social genuis but he gets wiped easily by low level monsters. It's a fun contrast. Mostly he serves as a mouth piece for logic for the going ons because he both insightful but impotent that it allows him to serve this function well.

Considering neither chil or Laios get a beard as a Dwarf but Senshi has a beard as a half-foot and elf makes me believe that
A. the changlings don't really mess with your hair much/don't rapidly grow or cut hair

I disagree, both on the matter of there being a twist or that Laios is too dismissive of humans and overly passionate of monsters.

Laios has been consistently shown to be more considerate than how people think he is, and his desires have generally been pretty small and simple. He's only in the dungeon out of simple, undirected curiosity and wanderlust, his interest in monsters is far more tethered to the ground than most people think (especially when he chides Senshi and accepts his hypocrisy with Kensuke), and probably the most important bit of all is how the Lion tries to entice him

I mean, look at that vision. The Lion can tell that Laios wouldn't actually be enthralled by the idea of creating fantastical new creatures that are beautiful and deadly to fill his dungeon with. The dream he shows is meager. People are poor and there's strife, but many are also content, and it's honestly more focused on his friends than on monsters.

Kui is basically shouting to the reader that Laios wouldn't wanna be some dangerous Monster Lord, as instead he's given a vision of a simple but very practical life to entice him into a seat he's only considering because he might need to do so to save Falin. Instead of his wildest dreams being fulfilled, it's "if you have to do it, it won't be that bad."

Of course, this too would be corrupted, but it just hammers in pretty heavily that Laios's desires are otherwise really simple and not as dangerous as people would think, especially since many of even his closest friends have been mistaken in their assumptions across the entire journey. This chapter states that those with more complicated desires are the absolute last ones you want as a Dungeon Lord, and Laios definitely aint that.
>>
>>291286124
Darker Kabru
>>
>>291287459
Nah the more we learned about Milsiril the more there's something seriously off with her.

At this point she was already an accomplished swordswoman. She has never died, not once, in a dungeon, which is an insane feat when you really think about it. It's not like Senshi who was just eking out a humble living sticking to the upper levels, she was directly challenging the dungeon master and demon doing their worst and they can't get her.

She saved Mithrun, but she knows it wasn't a mercy or a favor, just another doll to weaponize. It worked out in the end but we all know that shit was the longest of long shots.

She doesn't connect with her own people. She doesn't even really connect with her own children once they age out, she dotes on them but we can see the relationship cool as her coddling wears thin. She craves the love but also the dependence, the devouring mother. Why is Kabru fucking ass at killing monsters after being trained by a woman who is peerless at clearing dungeons? She wanted him to fail and give up.
>>
>>
>>291291506
It doesn't say that they were in a relationship either. It says he loved her and then left that love behind, could have been a completely one-sided thing
>>
>>291291524
Probably Thistle related. I think chanting meant you were drawing mana from the environment instead of yourself; and Marcille figured something big was coming.
>>
Wait is Mithrun a guard or criminal? He IS the captain afterall
>>
>>291286963
I like him for this chapter too, but more because it shows how flawed he is

Like Kabru is undoubtedly the most pragmatic, perspective, and introspective character, but he's ended up making very extreme decisions regarding Laios despite only ever talking to the guy for like 20mins. For someone that's supposed to consider everything and be objective, he's ended up letting prejudice and stigma lead him to making a rather rash judgement of someone's character.

He's also made shitty gauges of other people's character in the past, like he was almost killed permanently because he completely misjudged the head of the black market.

Then there's everything with this with the Demons getting out. It's basically a Super-Utaya, and even the normal variety is what he's been fearing the entire time. It's made exceptionally clear that Kabru isn't actually making very objective decisions at all. Fear, paranoia, and unfounded disgust has lead him to go from unjustly viewing Laios poorly to considering having to kill him. He's confident in his perception and judgement, but ultimately it's just a coward.

And it's great bookend to how we originally met him: quickly getting wiped by one of the simplest of creatures because he massively over-estimated his abilities even AFTER he did everything to be careful and practical. He's grown since then, but growing hasn't erased his flaws. It makes him into a great character and foil to Laios: someone who gives people every reason at surface value to think he's an airhead, but is instead more perceptive and deliberate than people give him credit for.
>>
>>291291794
He's a guard, with Pattadol as his second in command.
>>
>>291291810
Even the extras kinda feed into it more
>>291286105
>>291286130
With Kabru being arguably even more of a child towards eating monsters than Marcille (even when accounting for trauma), or how him and Mithrun (even though it's Mithrun's fault in this extra) is effectively the fukken
>smiles while pouring oil down drain
party in the dungeon

The guys have zero capabilities at actually being pragmatic and objective when it counts, and go against the core morals and themes that have been echoed throughout the rest of the manga. There's a reason why Kabru is shown eating unbalanceds meals early on, and then the stat pages for this chapter are even worse. Eating well and living within balance in even the dungeon is to have appreciation for life, as Senshi repeatedly establishes, and Kabru is in contempt of that.
>>
>>291285381
What a piece of shit, he didn't have to gouge his eye out, fucking goat.
>>
>>291291571
I agree for the most part, but I think in a scenario where Laios did become a more traditional dungeon master, he'd gradually be corrupted and distilled into a very tactical DM and that would make his dungeon very dangerous. But not existentially so unlike a certain someone else who has far more complex desires.
And I feel that should be obvious to most readers to not call it a twist.
>>
>>291291900
Shouldn't have kicked
>>
I don't quite get Mithrun's stint as the dungeon lord. So his wish was to have never joined the caneries. So did it alter reality or did the goat just create a fantasy world. Is the real lover of Mithrun still out there? His companions, were they just illusions too? We see Coyote for example in the dungeon but we only see Milsiril afterwards saving him.

But then again real people enter the dungeon to pilfer. So it wasn't all a dream. How long was he like that? He entered the dungeon with the whole group of Caneries, and I assume they were all at the bottom of the dungeon. But they find him it's as if they were part of the same group like it all happened in an instant

Did he take control of that certain dungeon or did a new dungeon manifest for him which then vanished?

>it's a "chilchuck has to suffer" episode
>>
The more I think about it, Marcille really is more Laios as people perceive him.

Like I was originally gonna make a post talking about
>hey, actually the original posse was kinda weird, wasn't it
>Laios and Marcille was both willing to go to crazy lengths to save Falin
>Chilchuck is the odd one out
>if Senshi wasn't there, he'd be a third wheel instead of a straight man or just one of the party
but thinking about that made me think more about Marcille especially and it's like, she's the one that's often way more inconsiderate and simplistic, and comes up with crazier plans. She's the one that angers the undine and then needs to do crazy stuff like killing it to eat when they're near a party wipe to keep going, even as the others push to send her back. Laios just wants to eat monsters, whereas Marcille just forbidden ancient magic. There's little things like how her shapeshifters are flawed whereas Laios' are almost perfect aside from clothing details, and you can say her attitude towards eating is an detail towards her being too inconsiderate of the situation or out of balance.

Which feeds more into the big reveal that Laios genuinely is nowhere near the "oh shit, this guy cannot be dungeon lord character." It's Marcille.

I think the world Mithrun created was similar to the fake golden kingdom area that Thistle made for the residents (in this case, though the main entrance (or at least the one that Mithrun used) was the mirror. That's the 'world' he normally spends his time in, while the rest of the dungeon would be dedicated to keeping out intruders.

Though obviously due to the demons influence/adventurers skills, people managed to get further and further in to break/steal shit.

As for the companions, I'd guess they're all fakes, assuming that the other team members probably died or left when Mithrun took over the dungeon.

> Did he take control of that certain dungeon
He took control of that dungeon, we see later with Marcille that the DM can pretty much entirely rework the physical layout of the dungeon if they want to, going as far as to merge whole floors.
>>
>>291292055
>Is the real lover of Mithrun still out there?
She's back in elf land, so I imagine.

Those who were real were presumably killed, possibly eaten by the demon or left on their own accord. I think it's ambiguous on purpose.

I think it's sort of inevitable aspect of how Laios is the protagonist and Marcille is the deuteragonist. They need to have a lot of similarities and common points of interest because both need to tie back into the plot and theming, even if in slightly different ways.

Not him, but that doesn't say it's evil. He created something warped and twisted, but that could just be strange, fake, and contradictory. The fact that "convoluted" is the term used, and given the nature of his wish + how it was granted, points more to how the dungeon more just reflects how twisted a sham of love and such is and that Mithrun settled for it

The desire to make others eat monsters and to eat them oneself, or to turn others into monsters and become one oneself, is, frankly speaking, grotesque and bizarrely complex. If that demon were to twist Laios’s wish into reality, the result would be a world where he, his companions, and every inhabitant of the globe transformed into monsters and engaged in mutual cannibalism.
In Japan, such malicious wish-granting objects are known as "Monkey's Paws" or "Kappa's Hands."

>>
>>291289324
Yep, iirc Fleki says at some point that there are no records of what happens when a demon actually escapes from the dungeon (presumably because if that happened the world would basically end or get wish nuked eventually like we see in a later chapter), so Utaya was most likely the worst on record, or at least, the worst in a REALLY long time, since it got all the way to the monster overflow stage before the canaries managed to seal it.

>>

>essentially an unwitting detonator
Nah, that's just the problem.

Laios is rarely ever a truly unwitting detonator. That's the real danger of him. He's someone that's fully conscious that he's about to do something crazy, taboo, or full-out forbidden-and-for-good-reason, and continues to do so anyways.

The pitfall that Kabru and others fall into is that they look at Laios, see his whole deal with monsters, and pair it the fact that he eats them to then think he's a through-and-through monster-aholic that would fully obsess over the control of them that being a Dungeon Lord would afford him. Instead, while he ultimately does enjoy doing so, he begins his diet out of desperation, fully grasping the situation, and being wholeheartedly able to commit to doing the extreme because he refuses to accept failure, even though he knows that the alternative can often be considered worse than death and isn't just affecting him.

He's far far far worse than just an airhead or a monster fantatic. Something infinitely worse than someone who doesn't consider the fallout of their decisions is someone that does and then is able to conduct himself ostensibly unbothered by it.

Like he already knows something's up about the Lion, but with the alternative being potentially no Falin, he won't think twice if it comes down to it.

Yeah he probably would've been generally okay with either, as both he and Marcille had potentially world spanning desires that it could use as an excuse to get them to free it from the dungeon.

Though as it is, Marcille taking over as the DM was definitely kind of an emergency thing with the canaries looming over the group and all, without that, I imagine the lion probably would've picked Laios if given the choice between them in a neutral setting. The lion seemed quite quick to start pushing Laios into going to find him/become the new DM in her place, since Marcille unfortunately doesn't really 'get' monsters or how to use them effectively, so she was still struggling against the canaries.

Getting people to eat monsters isn't really his desire. Remember the vision he showed Laios. The dungeon was closed off from adventurers, and banned poachers. People didn't come far and wide to see a monster kingdom and taste its delicacies, it just traded valuable monster goods with the outside world, and those who live there were either already in the dungeon or already agreed with his value. It's also a rather poor kingdom that's filled with strife.

The Lion showed Laios this because it's very clear that Laios' greatest desire is to rescue and restore his sister. A desire that would be instantly fulfilled just by being Dungeon Lord for 5 minutes (barring the fact that he'd probably be bewitched super quickly). Since all his desires are simple ones, he's just trying to convince Laios to live up to the potential responsibilities that he's been considering taking up for a while, and that it'd be useful to keep the Golden Land a dungeon if he intends to fulfill his promise to Yaad.

Basically, the Lion is actively trying to complicate things. It's why the kingdom he proposes to Laios has so many problems and everyone's trying to figure things out, so that he grows desires in him. Which is funny in a way, because it means
A) All the people trying to instill responsibility in Laios could backfire if he became Lord, as no doubt his isolationist policies and protection of his friends would only grow until he becomes opposed to humanity (for reasons ironically pretty much completely detached from monsters)
B) It hammers in the later points about new desires being able to be instilled, especially if even the Lion is able to instill them instead of just fulfill and consume them
>>

So, after this page I guess it's no longer a spoiler to refer to the lion as a demon that wants to eat them?
At this point in the story some part of me still felt there had to be some other perspective. Because the lion is so goofy and sincere when talking to Laios. It's not until he attacks Thistle that I actually understood he's really the bad guy.
>>
>>291293333
There's also just a lot of ways to interpret the Lion's curse, if you wanna get into it. At times, it honestly feels less like he went after Laios' greatest desire(s) and more just that he identified the best way to bother Laios the most amount of times for the rest of his life. Quantity and frequency over individual severity.

It's was 1000% more petty than anything else and I love him for it.

The winged lion was originally a guardian-like symbol/emblem for the golden kingom, Laios mentions it near the end of the manga. So yeah, the demon most likely just copied its looks in order to endear itself to Thistle/the GK residents as though it were an actual guardian deity thing.

As for the other forms it chose, who can say, might've been random or might've been tied to the culture of the area the dungeon was in, or to just the DM's personal preference.

I know, right. He really shouldn't have interferred in the fight for Laios sake. The elves and canaries are good actua ...
>to making a rather rash judgement of someone's character.
Wait, what? All of Kabru's worries about Laios are justified. Kabru acted irrational over empathy and sympathy when he stopped Mithrun and his realisation that Laios may have to die is when his reason slowly returns mainly because of how bad the consequences really are. I think your sympathy for Laios is twisting the whole situation around here.
>>
>>291294008
I think it may be that the elves are either slightly mistaken on the demons true intentions, OR the idea of it 'gaining power' is meant moreso in the way of the dungeon growing in actual magic power to the point where it can overflow + the demon can convince someone with strong enough desires to take it to the surface.

So still relies on the power of desires, but it may be partly the power that adventurers have as a collective over the whole dungeon (as we see in the 'first level' chapters when the canaries are stoking everyones excitement/desires with money)

>>
Why didn't Mithrun's eye get healed anyway? Healing magic is extremely good in Dungeon Meshi.
>>
>>291294029
>>291294038
However, there is no evidence to rule out the possibility that the winged lion of this country's folklore that far from being a purely mythical figure, was actually a demon that once interfered in this region.
>>
>>291294229
I guess because the eye injury was inflicted by the demon, same with his ears so they can't be healed because mana is initially from demon. Otherwise all demon's misdoing could be fixed with magic.
>>
>>291294229
Going by the extra content, replacing actual body parts is usually a kill-and-revive situation, and even that generally has to be done very soon after the loss of the body part in question. The more time after the injury, the less likely you are to regain the part.

I'd guess that either Milsiril found Mithrun too late after his injury to heal him, or she wasn't willing to kill+revive him just to get an eyeball back, or they had already sealed the dungeon by the time they found him and the kill+revive method wouldn't have worked since the dungeon magic/rules were no longer in effect.
>>
>>291294169
Given that the succubus chapter revealed Laios’s ideal partner to be his "monster-transformed companions," and the lion chapter showed his ideal world to be one where his companions eat monsters without hesitation.

The confusion comes from the often neglected separation of story from setting. Star Wars is a fantasy story (knight saves princess and defeats an evil wizard) in a scifi setting (outer space, aliens, advanced technology). Dungeon Meshi is a fantasy story (saving his sister from a dragon and defeating an evil wizard) and has a fantasy setting (adventuring parties entering dungeons for riches and glory).

These are not the same.

She didn't want to kill him she just thought it's the only thing that can really be done for him.

>Fungil's leaf collar
I think that may be the only instance of Kui using the usual leaf motiff for elves, probably decided against it later. If I had a reservation it's that her elves have an almost uniform clothing - the canary uniforms and the simple "greek-like" tunics.
But I guess coming up with some extensive systems of different styles and aesthetics would be time consuming rabbit-hole

Competency doesn't necessarily equate to maturity.
Milsiril can be an incredibly skilled swordfighter/dungeoneer and be an emotionally stunted womanchild at the same time.

>>291296224
To be fair, the concept of a Greco-Roman tunic is so simple that it's not hard to imagine it convergently evolving, so to speak.
And it brings to mind antiquity, which makes sense given the long lives of elves and how much more slowly their culture likely evolves.

He could look it up at any time in a book. It's just a technique in this world, not a special ritual.

Yeah for some reason I think the editor might be the hidden GOAT of meshi. I've read some of her other series and I think it's so so (her meshi extras are the best tho). And even the start of Meshi didn't really form well immediately and even the ending. Don't (you) me. Maybe after sometime Kui is able to internalize her editor's advices, and even summarize it here. You can really feel how her editor (Kabru) criticized her (Mithrun) heavily.

I liked the homunculi concept more but I didn’t like the way it went (the villain was forgettable desu) especially the shitty movie. I still think the manga is far better way to enjoy FMA than either anime.

I kept putting it off because I wasn’t sure of the eating monsters gimmick and the fandom on twatter festering with retards put me off but I’m glad I gave it a chance in the end. I went and bought the adventure bible soon after I finished reading for the first time.

Is it? He led with the fact that Laios came into the dungeon this time to save his sister, but Kabru WAS right in that Laios is crazy into monsters. That literally ends up being one of the main reasons he falls to the temptation of the demon in the end, in order to become a monster himself.

She should basically be a walking monster guide though, she had been a member of the canaries for ages (and respected enough to still be remembered well by others even more than a decade after she quit), so she must've had a fair amount of combat experience against monsters.

It seemed like Kabru's inability to fight monsters well stems more from his personal disgust towards them, to the point where he even admits he doesn't like to just LOOK at them.

>What if instead of killing the guy, say we just talk to him instead.
safer to kill him, capture corpse, revive him once it's safe, bring him out of dungeon.
Seems the elves do that because surprisingly they have a collection of ex-dungeon lords that all have various crippling issues and require care
>>

>>

Also good to keep in mind that Mithrun and Patty's group were only sent in originally as a sort of initial scouting mission, and the canaries had absolutely NO idea how bad the dungeon had gotten already. Going by the number of newbies Flamela brings in as 'backup' it almost looks as though this was set up to be some kind of training mission to get the new recruits used to things, even if it would probably start off as clearing up the dregs of a dungeon after its DM was defeated.

How does a demon just fly away without escaping the dungeon? Why would it just vanish after acquiring a good sized chunk of power even if it wasn't enough to escape, instead of waiting for another prey?
I think that to seal that dungeon the Canaries had to actively fight the demon before finding Mithrun.
>>
>>291298413
> How does a demon just fly away without escaping the dungeon?
nta but I don't think it literally flew away, it 'disappeared' presumably back into the alternate energy dimension (as it originally got into this world because of rifts and artificially made dimensional gates) because it didn't have enough power to overflow the dungeon + because the canaries had already set the seal, or were actively setting it up already, which would effectively destroy the dungeon anyway by cutting off the supply of adventurers/desires.
