Alright lets try this! One chapter everyday until we die.>The Social Welfare agency, a government sponsored corporation is in the business for saving orphaned or abandoned children who are terminally ill or injured beyond the point of saving.>Using cybernetic implants, the Agency uses a process called 'conditioning' to turn orphaned children into emotionless killing machines with hardly any memories, no human comfort and no free will.>Follow the life of Henrietta, a girl who barely survived a brutal attack that killed her family and who was saved and repaired by the Social Welfare Agency. Despite her conditioning and programming, Henrietta still has the heart of a young girl. She has not completely forgotten how to love, yet the very emotion is contrary to her training and programming. Not exactly the time to be asking questions
Rico backstory time!
Giacomo is quite skilled!
what now
Chapter end!>>291430278The cyborgs are getting fucked by Giacomo
>>291429463What sort of armor is this guy wearing?
>>291430361The anti-materieler has become the anti-materielee
>>291430361Not Petra though, Petra is getting fucked by Allesandro.
>>291430461I think it actually penetratedIt's subtle but you can see blood on his left arm here >>291429944Five-seven bullets cut through soft armor like butter but don't have great terminal ballistics
>>291430461Plot armor!
How does one man have more plot armor than the literal superhuman cyborgs?
>>291429463Neat that Jean switched to the blonde version of Jose's usual sidearm for the last big fight instead of his usual High Power.
>>291431527You don't make it as a successful career terrorist by being a little bitch
>>291432121Exactly. The scariest ones are the guys who grow old in a profession where many men die young
>>291429659Does Rico remember her pre-cyborg life or something? Seems like she actually thinks about it from time to time vs. the other girls who remember absolutely nothing.
>>291433269Yes but she hates it, so she prefers her current life alongside Jean. He picked her up because of that, she needs no drugs to be conditioned because her current life is better than being a nugget
>>291433308You know that got me thinking, especially with the gen 2s. If you took a terminally ill 16 year old and gave her 5-7 extra years to live, a bullet proof body, the strength to push over a mobile crane, and then assigned a hot older dude to her whose job description probably includes keeping her as happy as possible, how much conditioning do you really need to convince her to walk into gunfire for you?
>>291433504Isn't that Petra's situation?
>>291434773No she's pretty heavily conditioned, she doesn't remember anything of her past life, right?
>>291433504Make it 11-13 year olds and my life belongs to Section 2
Bump
>>291429944>>291429966>>291429988Fuck, I think I'm too tired right now, because I'm failing to comprehend Rico's and Giacomo's positioning here.
>>2914364011) Enrico jumps up from the ground floor to one of the overhead passes and shoots Jacomo2) Enrico backflips away doging bullets (creating distance between herself and Jacomo but also between her and Jean.)3) Jacomo and Enrico both run out of bullets and Enrico starts thinking about how to best link up with and save Jean.
>>291436401You can do it anon, I believe in you!
Will they get their happy ending, anon?
>>291438231>3 out of 5 in that picture are already deadYou tell me.
>>291439729C-can they come back?
>>291439729Cyborgs never die
You know does this chick show up at all after Venice? Pretty sure she survived cause they only mentioned 2 cyborg casualties but I don't remember seeing her anywhere
>>291441797Aida forgor
>>291430361Thank you for posting!
>>291441797I think I did see her in this arc on the second to last thread. Or it was an older girl. I really don't know.
Time to see the battle's aftermath!
>>291429514he will never get another chance
Chapter end!So Jean shows his softer side and Rico is the bestest weapon there ever was. Hard choices on both sides.Did that take care of Giacomo?
>>291446288>he remembered to thank RicoJean really is kind, even in his last moments.
>>291446382Thank you, OP!I hope Rico survives, at least.
>>291446205Funnily enough, only Rico could've taken the shot here. Any amount of conditioning would have made it an impossible request for the other girlsSasuga Yu...
>>291446382Thank you for posting, OP!
Rico has really grown on me this re-read, she's now my favorite
>>291446282Grody you can see his intestines
>>291446309Trying to speak his language. ;_;
>>291446352
>Shoots a man in the gut>Nooo, you can't dieIDK somehow Rico was the last character I'd expect to have a woman moment like that.
>>291448030She really is like Jean
>>291448660She only got him in the intestineStrictly speaking you don't need your intestines
>>291448660I mean, Jean could have at least trying moving to the side a little you know...
>>291448801You need 'some' intestineYou can survive for a while without your stomach or large intestine though
>>291439729Hilshire is going to save Triela, he even took all the explosives to that end as per >>291382516
>>291446288That's right Rico, stick a bandaid on to plug the hole and he'll be right as rain.
>>291450306With gunshot wounds you actually do just stuff the wound full of gauze and put pressure on itThough I don't think wound packing is gonna do diddily dick to a 50cal ripping through your abdomen lol, It's honestly impressive Dante and Jean are even in one piece
>googled "50 cal exit wound" because of this chapterHoly... do not look that up
W-why are they all wearing black, anon?
>>291451141Halloween!
>>291451141So nice of them to show up for my funeral, I really appreciate it
>>291451141To hide the bloodstains better.
>>291446792no the author invented that detail specifically for the petra storyline (and she overcame it). It never applied to the other girls or henrietta and elsa would have noticed.Any of the girls could have took the shot (except claes)
>rising hand in the shape of an avocado>my guacamole sara al dante
>>291446352Every fucking time. This book is Pavlov's bell for my tears.>>291450435That's not a .50 BMG (12.5mm), that's a 20mm, at point blank, and it was practically a graze. Small miracle it didn't take a chunk of Jean's right arm in the process.
>>291446382>all this glowery only to end up like thisJose went out with dignity at least
>>291452065Jose died like he lived, like a little BITCH!
>>291446792They called back to the girl that lovers's murder-suicided her handler like a chapter ago
This reread has made me realize Rico and Triela are the best characters, and Henrietta is not as interesting as I remembered.Petra is still shit though.
>>291452466I remember liking Triela the best when watching the anime, reading the manga actually made me appreciate Rico and Henrietta a lot more. I don't hate Petra but her and Sandro's relationship feels out of place with how relatively twisted the other fratello are
>>291451458I don’t see the other girls being able to take a shot through their handler with as much ease as Rico did when we’ve seen them struggle with their “I have to protect him” instinct, outside of a mental breakdown such as Henrietta and Elsa. I’m not saying it’s impossible but Rico didn’t seem as conflicted, as if Jean had talked this scenario through in her head many times before. On the one hand sometimes I think It would’ve been interesting for Aida to explore those little moments, but on the other hand I believe leaving things like that merely implied makes for a better story.
Was Henrietta a bad girl?
>>291452982No
>>291453029She still needed a good spanking
>>291452600I don't think any of the other handlers outside of maybe Jose would have wanted their cyborg to shoot at them in a situation like that. >>291452466>This reread has made me realize Rico and Triela are the best characters, and Henrietta is not as interesting as I remembered.I think Henrietta's character arc just hits different when you realize she's already showing intense signs of addiction to the drug from the very beginning, if you know in advance to look for the neglect you see it everywhere from Jose's disinterest in training her, to buying her affection with gifts and standing her up when he promised to take her and the other cyborgs stargazing in the "Ode to Joy" chapter. Henrietta being a flat and emotionally stunted character is ultimately relevant to the plot.
>>291454286Another thing I noticed with Jose in contrast to Jean is Jean actually opens up quite a bit to Rico. There's that chapter where Rico talks about how she likes the ocean and Jean says he doesn't, when Henrietta shares how she feels about the ocean to Jose he more or less just goes "oh well isn't that nice". Jose never really talks about how he feels about anything to Henrietta which you don't see with the other fratello.
>>291454286>>291454447Jose was a fucking asshole all along, huh.
>>291454480Jose is a fightfag in a psychological drama/political thriller story. He wants nothing more than to just be at the frontlines shooting at shit and getting shot at, but first he had to take care of his sister, then he gets called home amidst the Padania stuff, then he has to take care of yet another little girl. If he could be as simple minded as Jean and just opened up about this to Henrietta he might've at least been happier before dying but he just treats her the same way he treated his sister except worse.
>>291450435Is it really that bad? I've watched cartel execution videos using a .50 and it wasn't that destructive. They shot two guys in the stomach with it and it just did a bigger than usual hole in them.
>>291452466After watching the anime, Henrietta was my little favorite. After the manga it was Triela. And after both, Elsa started growing on me too. Petra still shit though.
>>291454286>>291454480>>291454671Where is all this coming from? To me it looked like Jose really cared for Henrietta at first. Until their relationship started draining him...
>>291454977It's not like Jose doesn't care for Henrietta at all, it's just that the affection he shows her is surface level and she's able to pick up on it. Jose constantly putting up the front of an ideal older brother and Henrietta subconsciously seeing through it wears on them both throughout the entire series.
>>291454286Were they more or less effective than the Petra fratello?
>>291446923Rico always was the best girl.
Was Rico the Gunslinger Girl after all?
could an anon have treated his cyborg loli better?
>>291456488Would need to be henrietta or she'd be pregnant at the start of the story
>>291455489I really wouldn't be surprised if the Henrietta-Jose fratello pair was just outright the best at pretending to be a harmless brother who's picking his harmless sister up from her violin lessons and then gunning down everything in the vicinity. Rico is super competent but when Jean makes her act like a sniper as he often does, she's not using her expensive augmentations, the element of surprise granted by her child like form nor is she utilizing the repairability her mechanical frame grants her. Triela honestly is a bit too inconspicuous for her role, her waist length hair, forein complexion and nonapparent relation to her minder all draw attention.
>>291457008Triela and Hilshire look like teacher and student lol
>>291457099In a school building, sure, but outside of school hours teachers usually don't associate with their pupils, especially not 1-on-1. The relationship they're signalling is something like intern/young associate + mentor at a buisness by having Triela wear business professional attire.
>>291431527Speaking of, has the series ever stated how strong they were? Were they like super human or just trained adult soldiers in child sized bodies? I remember Henrietta about to beat the shit out of Claes with a bench in the anime and Triela ripping a public bathroom fixture out the wall when she was in her period. Also it's implied their bones, or at least their skulls, are resistant to small arms fire
>>291456406yes
>>291458440Cute
>>291441797Hard to say, there's been a bunch of unidentified dark haired cuties like her in the preceding chapters but most have longer hair. I'd guess she just went the way of Angie, she was selected because she was nearing the end of her lifespan. And remember Ange' also survived the car bomb.
>>291458440Kek, cute art
>>291457791Not directly but we've had a gen 1 lift 500kg overhead and throw it a short distance as well as a group of 2 or 3 gen 2s push over a mobile crane. I kinda see them as roughly equivalent to Halo SPARTANs without power armor, they do some pretty ridiculous shit when the situation calls for it.
>>291459383but then they also on occasion stuggle in combat with unaugmented specialists like Rico with Giacomo here.
>>291459468Unless I completely missed something I don't think Rico actually gets into hand to hand range with Giacomo, though Triela did have trouble with those Camorra thugs when she was getting withdrawal symptoms.
>>291441797I feel like she isn't seen again
>>291459013Agreed, I wish these new cyborgs were identified
>>291429442Rico is so cool
>>291459958Agreed, will she survive this?
>>291459013You can see in the panel Chiara is missing her right arm. She probably got put to pasture after that fight. Sylvia's handler at least seems to have show up with a 2nd gen though. He was the ponytail dude that got his head exploded by a .50BMG a couple chapters back.
>>291429918>I am a genius!!>oh NO
>>291446253nice job Riccersowari da
>>291446340actually beautiful panels>>291446352;_;
>>291446382the loyalty
>>291452982The worst, actually
>>291446288I don't love where Jean chooses to give Rico validation and praise, but he's damn consistent therein and it's admirable.
>>291458440jej
Signore Thread...you...you can't die!
>>291462980lol come on got a good chuckle out of me, here's another bump
>>291450435Giacomo was using a 20mm caliber rifle, whereby .50 cal is roughly 12.7mm in diameter
>>291462980Let me help (YOU).
>>291452466Triela and Petra are by far the best and most interesting.
>>291462980Pfft. come on man
How many more chapters should this have gotten so everyone could be properly explored? 50? Another 100?
>>291465538Anon, we just got another flashback to Rico in a hospital bed being bored, immobile and alone in Erinyes (part 2) how often do you need Aida Yu to draw you the same series of events? Do you really need another flashback detailing Triela's background for a 5th time? If no then though luck because that's what you're getting.
>>291465877I was thinking more the side characters, things implied but left unsaid, more SoL scenes like in the first ~30 chapters >spoilerOh no not again...
>>291467585She's going to be OK right...?
>>291467537Petrass
>>291462980I heard that in her voice.
things are heating up!
Chapter end!
>>291468894Ashiq about to get mentalist'd by Sandro! and lose a finger to Petra
>>291468162Funny how they're both quoting the same epic poem and choosing to relate to Horatius, the Roman hero, rather than the Etruscan invaders. Then out spake brave Horatius,218 The Captain of the gate:219"To every man upon this earth220 Death cometh soon or late.221And how can man die better222 Than facing fearful odds,223For the ashes of his fathers,224 And the temples of his Gods,##225"And for the tender mother226 Who dandled him to rest,227And for the wife who nurses228 His baby at her breast,229And for the holy maidens230 Who feed the eternal flame,231To save them from false Sextus232 That wrought the deed of shame?##233"Hew down the bridge, Sir Consul,234 With all the speed ye may;235I, with two more to help me,236 Will hold the foe in play.237In yon strait path a thousand238 May well be stopped by three.239Now who will stand on either hand,240 And keep the bridge with me?"
>>291469067Honestly Sandro might be the Wellfare Agency's most powerful asset given how the terrorists have adapted to their superior firepower with more sneakiness and traps.
>>291470606He's so cool. I really liked his subplot too(ToT Bianca)
>>291469916Well, it makes sense in Sandro's case. Ashiq isn't even Italian, much less Padanian, but he is British educated, so turning Sandro's reference against him with the nuke threat was a good rhetorical play. It's unlikely the Padanians would even recognize a British poem about a Roman hero recited in English, but even if they DID understand the reference, they'd have a different reaction than if they were Italian of some sort.
>>291470606Honestly Sandro is kind of out of his depth in a paramilitary assault on determined defenders. Remember when he had Petra shoot the suicide bomber in the leg >>291382371 giving her time to blow herself up? If he had Petra headshot her instead, he could have used those explosives to open the blast door, save Marco and the gen. 2 cyborgs and take the control room with overwhelming force.
>>291469916>didn't immediately recognize HoratiusI'm ashamed of myself and will be in self-exile to /lit/ for another 5 years

>>291459707The fratello trapped in that hallway have their names brought up at one point or another, the wiki has them listedSoni + Fio - Yuri fratello. Sorella I guess?Fleccia + Lupa - freckle girl and black hair guyGattonero + Yarrow - black hair girl and long hair guy
>>291475258The Wikia is wrong or incomplete here. The handlers for those three are called Lupa, Fio and Gaspare (Casparo->Yarrow [alternate] romanization error?) by Marco. Based on the scene by the crane the dark haired guy that the wikia has marked up as Lupa is Gaspare. The visual descriptions you provide, I believe, are correct:Dark haired guy with the freckled cyborgThe homosexual pairing is with blond cyborg. The light haired guy is with the dark spiky haired cyborg.
>>291475685Good catch, no clue where Yarrow could've come from in that case. The fan translation on mangadex matches up with the official translation here
>>291467309Pretty damn heroic for terrorists>>291467323>>291467362ooh
>>291475685The groupings for this are based mostly on their proximity in "A chance meeting with the past" >>291380371. Also "Fleccia" is called Freccia (i.e. Italian word for Arrow) in the Seven Seas translation we're reading now and "Kraman" is put to page as Clement, he was the handler for the girl who had her elbow shot while lifting ruble off her dead handler in the turbine room.
>>291467384I too carry around important passwords on slips of paper>>291467483Cute attempt at a bluff but you simply CANNOT beat Sandro at this
