PHP vulnerabilities found, allowing bad actors to hack sites and steal data. It's like last year's 4chan hack, except this one affects every website built with PHP, which is basically almost everything.

Now I wonder if anyone managed to steal credit cards data from 4chan, since there are people here who actually bought 4chan pass using their credit cards. It was stupid decision to abandon crypto payment method.

Anyone see spirited away in theaters this week? I saw it yesterday. Was my first time ever. Didn't realize it but amc was actually doing a ghibli fest thing this year and I completely missed it. I should've gone to see all of these honestly, but I just found out about it now :(

I hope so. If they do I'm gonna pick up all the ones I missed. Last year I saw the imax remaster of Princess Mononoke, but I thought they only did that one specifically because it was the anniversary or something. But they played it again this year apparently.. I'm just gonna have to keep an eye on the schedule. I honestly dont go to the theater these days at all, but It would be cool to see as many ghibli flicks as I can in theaters

All their shit was probably un-updated for 15 years. Today/this week is a time I'm glad I didn't commit to the industry. There's some fucked certs as well.

Funnily enough, not really. All my usual not-4chan haunts were kinda "as dead as usual." and the main altchan I use I feel like the quality of discussion has gone down somewhat since the early 2020's. Internet must be dying, or something.

Pretty much getting a brush wet and picking a color with it. How wet the brush is controls how light or dark your color is and what sort of effect it has (like using just a slightly damp brush if you want a fur-like or hair-like effect vs a soaking wet brush if you want a solid color over a large area). Colors can be mixed too.

Yes! I haven’t seen it in ten years. Instead of it just being a grand adventure about a young girl in the Alice in Wonderland vein, I was struck by how Miyazaki uses work culture as her coming of age. Just to have the privilege of doing the lowest, most demeaning job Yubaba can flick at her, she has to lose every sense of self she once had. Chihiro can’t even start on the baths, she first takes her place among dustballs. Then when a new name is handed to her, she must hide her true name so it cannot become corrupted, akin to retaining individuality in dehumanizing industry work. She doesn’t grow up by “being brave” and facing scary monsters in a fantasy setting, she grows up by learning how to survive the workforce. A western version of this story would have the protagonist tell her way to victory and free her parents by immediately pursuing a headstrong path to victory while never giving up. Instead, Chihiro takes in the adventure around her, appreciates life, and only strategically makes advancements toward her ultimate goal. It’s a much more realistic look at coming of age.

Agree with this
I liked how one of the core themes was about the value of working hard, but it was never meaningless work they were doing. She wasn't just a silly little pencil pusher OL who provided nothing of value to society at large and whose job is virtually meaningless in the grand scheme of things, as if often the case in the modern age, but it was actually valueable work. The scene where they all came together, old hag included, to heal the river spirit of the pollution, was my favorite scene overall. I actually think that I would have liked the movie a bit more if it had had more focus on these individual healing and cleansing scenes for various spirits. Though, I can understand the need to keep the narrative moving because of the movie format. A spirited away SoL full season of anime would be sublime though

Certificate are signed with private keys and used to identify a website you're talking to. Without certificates, anyone listening could pretend to be <your banking website>, receive your request and read what you're sending, including passwords and sensitive data. Some certificates rely on others, there's a chain of trust going on. So your banking website relies on other higher level certificates which also rely on higher ones.

Well, guess what one of those higher level certificates used as a primary key to sign their certificate. It was supposed to be a 384 bits integer, much more than the amount of atoms in the entire universe. Impossible to guess. Well, that Indian firm used "4". Not 4 digits, just 4. The entire trust chain is compromised.

Thankfully most browsers already revoked those certificates in the latest updates, so you wont get owned while trying to access websites.

Wrong. I have fun in threads and I'm a good poster. I also can't easily multi-reply with an image without it being obvious who it's for without adding "pic related". It's just little things.
I remember passionately making my case at 8 when the hack happened. The compromise was "we will just cover the ids up lol" but then you click and they're revealed so it's not much of a measure.

This is my biggest complaint too. IDs make it harder to ignore bad faith replies and post something else, locking me into a conversation and tone when I'd rather not give a fuck and just have fun. The effect of an identity of any sort is more significant than most people realize, just look at threads with avatarfags or generals with flags on /int/. I truly believe the people who argue in favor of them fundamentally don't understand how anonymity contributes to free-form discussion. They miss the whole point of this site and believe in some made-up suspicion that everything they don't like is because of pancakefag or waffleschizo, if they could only identify them.
>>

>>
>>291787222
You don't have to force an identity with IDs, they are there to prevent samefagging and shit stirring, you can post whatever you want.
IDs are only toxic for people who ARE the problem, the ones who care too much about who's behind the screen and their own egos, if you simply stick to the thread topic and focus on collaborating for the thread, ask questions, or have a good time, you never ran into any problem, nobody cares who you are.
>>
>>291787779
This argument is exactly what I'm talking about. Hollow and short-sighted as fuck. It's not about forcing an identity, it's the natural consequence of posts being tied together and the impact that has on the decision to make a given post. It stymies fun for lurkers, kills potential avenues of discussion and does nothing to actually mitigate the "problem" you perceive because anyone committed can just reset their router. You evidently care way too much about who's behind the screen if you're advocating for this just to identify them.
>>
>>291786832
This desu. Even when the IP counter was around I almost never posted because both being a new IP and a stale IP felt bad. I've never samefagged, but the whole reason I like imageboards is because I get to post without strings attached. IDs, even per thread, attaches enough strings that it becomes embarrassing to post more than once. I'd like to be whoever I need to be whenever I want to be, and I like being able to move on after I stumble or to abandon arguments I lose interest/faith in without having to also abandon the thread I'm in.
It's important enough to me that I won't even post in altchans with small populations or a record of tracking/exposing certain anons. Anonymity is paramount.

A thread ID does not attach any sort of identity or permanent means of tracking what you say to your post, but only serves as a means to deter most people from samefagging a thread into oblivion. You also haven't actually provided any support for your position, that thread IDs inhibit expression, but just (ironically) quoted a slogan at me. I've used boards and chans that have thread IDs, and no one seems to have any issues with expressing themselves or going against the grain, or being as politically incorrect as they like. Fuck, this website's /pol/ board has IDs, and it doesn't seem to stop people expressing whatever viewpoints they want, it just stops people like this guy from pretending to be 20 different people to force a narrative.
>>
>>291788407
>Hollow and short-sighted as fuck.
Nope, been using boards with IDs for a while now, can't say they are "better" they are different experience, you approach them in a different way than here, but if you still have an issue with them then I can honestly say you are just hanging with the wrong crowd.
>it's the natural consequence of posts being tied together and the impact that has on the decision to make a given post
I don't really see the problem with this, it just means that you should think before you post, or are you afraid that someone might make fun of you for making a mistake? because that doesn't happen, at least not in a thread with good and well behaved people.
>You evidently care way too much about who's behind the screen if you're advocating for this just to identify them.
I'm not, I'm a different anon and I'm just defending this system because I've seen goodness in it On altchans mind you, forgot to tell that, I'm ok with /a/ being non ID.

Eh I beg to differ, I've seen people come and go, some don't mind it and post as normal without caring about how they are perceived, others treat it like a forced tripfag and embrace it, but are mostly ignored because they don't really add anything to the convo, so they leave after receiving 0 attention.
I can guarantee the latter type of people also try to make some sort of " identity " even on normal boards like here, but they can manipulate the strings to have the spotlight.
>>
>>291788940
Every anon I don't like is Magister!

>>291789078
You say it doesn't attach any form of identity, while using the very attached image to say "look at this one samefagging anon!"
How would we know without that identity?
Regardless, you must accept that there is a split of opinion. Anons who value true anonymity simply will not use ID'd boards to any great degree. And anons who do value it will.
However.
Anons who do and do not value it will both use boards without ID.
The math in my eyes makes the choice a clear determination.
It's okay to disagree with your preference but the underlying logic is simple and clean.
>>
>>291790187
If people wanted to have an ID here they could tripfag. Most don't.
I can also perhaps concede that most don't care.
I've said enough on the subject for now, but the only thing I was trying to convey is that a preference against it != being a shitposter or mentally ill.

>>291790264
Sure, if anything what I've learned after going to altchans with IDs is that they are like wearing a suit and going to a formal event, everyone brings their best face because they respect the setting and the other people, while a place without it is like going out with your friends as a casual setting, you can have a great time in both, but the latter can fluctuate between some serious discussion about something or just throwing up insults in the air.
Tldr: Places with IDs are better for serious discussion, places without it are better for casual discussions.

>>291790324
>animosity
*anonymity
No idea how I wrote a completely different word by accident
>>
>>291790209
>"look at this one samefagging anon!"
We don't know his username, post history, or anything identifiable about him. That poster in the OP can go into a completely different thread and no one would know he had just tried to samefag another thread. If he had just made the OP post, and responded to a few of the posts in it, no one would even know who he was or care, for that matter. As I have said, thread IDs do not attach any form of persistent identity to a user, all they do is identify which posts have been made from the same user. This does nothing but point out samefags and schizos.

>>291790264
A tripcode is not comparable to a thread ID. Tripcodes are persistent between threads and set by the user. Thread IDs are not, and are assigned to individual users when they post in a thread, only for that thread. If you go to a new thread, you are assigned a new ID.

Thread IDs don't have any obstructive effects, and has been said, the only people who have a problem with them are the type of people who engage in the kind of behaviour IDs are meant to prevent.

"You can go into any other thread"
But when a board is slow, and I made a post already in the Eva thread, and now feel differently, or was having an argument and don't want to continue, or anything else, I can't continue posting in that thread, that may last for days or weeks or even months.
Ironically I see it as less an issue for 4chan due to its speed than altchans.

That you still hold the opinion of "only malicious actors would be against it" simply says you are either incapable of understanding or deliberately choosing not to. For your sake I'll hope it's the former.

>>291790367
I do see the value in slower conversations / boards for more niche topics / anime, where you can't or shouldn't expect many posts. Talking about urusei yatsura or even gintama perhaps.

"Trying hard" to do something doesn't really cut the mustard. You're not actually making a coherent argument for why thread IDs are bad, you're just saying "it makes me feel bad and feel awkward, so it shouldn't exist."

>>291790709
>I can't continue posting in that thread
Again, this is a personal opinion that you are trying to turn into a premise. If you feel uncomfortable posting in a thread you've already posted in, so that some people might see that you have opinions on things, and can't make a drive-by shitpost, then that says more about you. Even so, when you go back into a thread after like three years of not posting in it, so what? What does having one of your posts from x amount of years ago attached to your current one really do? Nothing. There is literally no effect that exists outside of your own mind. As I have said, all thread IDs do is expose samefags.

For many things, there are actual and well-articulated reasons to not have them, but for thread IDs the only argument against seems to be "I have anxiety over making posts on a mongolian basket weaving forum."

Again, I reiterate that thread IDs promote a higher quality of discussion by preventing people from sperging out and trying to brute force a consensus by pretending to be 20 people.
>>

The only real response you can give to them is "I explained my position as best as I can. That you do not believe me, or are unable to understand, is a separate issue. But this reason behind my reasoning for not using many altchans." And leave it at that.

The good faith anons will simply not post, and the mentally ill will do what they do with the various ways around it.
The mentally ill who are also too lazy to get around it are quite few I believe; if they have the energy to false flag and make dozens of posts, they have the energy and determination to use proxies.

And, as I'm about to go shower, I'll add that this was me:

I'm mostly just trying to voucher that the other ways to talk about things are as good as here, but you have different mentalities for each one.
I can understand why some people are against IDs because of fear of being made fun for having wrong opinions or making mistakes, and the idea of having to carefully think each post to keep their reputation, but it's wrong and they have just been conditioned by the schizos here who pick people apart, and you carefully think your post not because of reputation but because you don't want to "trash" a clean place you like.

That's all I'll say as I was very explicit in my reasoning.

The absolute last vestige I can squeeze forth would be thus: old men don't care about their nudity. They can walk around in front of others fine. Those going through puberty frequently feel self conscious.
The old man can say "lol. Skill issue. Just stop caring LMAO" but that doesn't negate the feeling of the boy or girl. It is just nudity. Yet it still bothers them.
It is just anonymity. Yet it still bothers us.

/v/ is about videogames, which somehow manages to be a thing more faggy and soifull than anime, and even more beloved by normalfags; so there is no way to fix or save /v/.

Do you think you did well? Hoping for good results, anon.

Imagine a future where you're forced to log in and disclose your state id.
how might this affect discussion?
>>
>>291789831
>anonymity makes it easy to forgive
exactly
It's borderline chrustian, forgiving minor indescretions to appreciate a greeater whole
>>
>>291797337
Don't use it?

I was reading about pub culture a little while back and realised that the same rules applied to chans, the typical social inhibitions are suspended and people wheel off conversations at random with strangers.
>>
>>291790457
>the only people who have a problem with them are the type of people who engage in the kind of behaviour IDs are meant to prevent.
you seem unable to read the flow of conversation here at all
IDS are an impediment to fun and pure expression.

you just want to torment someone don't you?
>>
>we NEED IDs trust me we CAN'T have anonymity on this anonymous imageboard, what if you're one of the voices in my head attacking me? What if you're a SAMEFAGGING SCHIZO?! You want to torment me don't you? You want to hurt me and that's why you're anonymous
Just go use regular social media at that point desu.
>>
>>291797932
calm down you schizo, people are discussing in good faith
>>
>>291797956
This >>291797886
is not good faith. Don't abuse terms you don't understand.

IDs != loss of anonymity
>>
>>291797956
>schizo
See what I mean? I'm not talking about just you, I'm summarizing everyone ITT bitching about anonymity because they're paranoid about bad actors. Insisting anyone who cares about anonymity is a samefagging schizo with bad intentions is arleady bad faith.
If you're so terrified of poopdickschizo ruining your thread, you can use anywhere else on the internet where everyone's identity is guaranteed. People who actually go out of their way to derail threads are easy to wordfilter, report, and ignore. It's not a big enough deal to warrant compromising anonymity.

I didn't say anything about making all of 4chan use IDs, I'm making a remark that the people who oppose sites with IDs tend to be shit stirrings who love to create drama or incite fights out of nowhere, because that's "fun" for them, not discussing the actual topic, not bringing up new ideas, just endless slap fights.
Judging by this post that smells like projection, I'll say I nailed it.
>>
>>291798059
Putting words in other's mouths is also bad faith.
