Also, run of the mill harem SOL fantasy schlock that came out over the years ("I can't believe I got reincarnated as the strongest laundromat!") kinda poisoned the well for high concept stuff, where DM could easily be mistaken as one of those, when world, story and characters were still in the process of getting built up. Which is funny, since DM came out when all those copycats weren't around yet. Unless you're in the market for the seemingly comedic cooking show aspect in ep1 or have someone who goes "watch this. thank me later" with you, you might get filtered early on.That, and while I think that DM good a pretty good adaption as well, it had the misfortune of coming out alongside Frieren, which simply had an absolutely outstanding adaption that elevated the manga beyond anyone's wildest dreams. Still, writing wise, especially with what came out as of yet, Frieren and DM operate on whole different levels in almost every aspect. Well, Frieren still has a chance of catching up a bit, if the author can ever be arsed again to continue releasing something.
