Anons, I noticed something interesting after calibrating my monitor to at least the standard that professional photographers use: there's a discrepancy between the DAZ renders and the 2D artwork.

On the other hand, renders made in DAZ are mostly completely wrong, like all the examples in this thread so far, including this image which I don't know if it's 'official' or a fan render, but as far as I know, it's from BaDIK which is the most successful game made in DAZ: >>8307865

The only conclusion I can draw is that the vast majority of DAZ users aren't artists and haven't even bothered to calibrate their monitors (or buy monitors with a good pre-calibration), while the vast majority of 2D games, even games where the art isn't great, are at least being made by people who more or less understand that you need a good, well-calibrated monitor.

A Ren'Py sandbox game centered on a high-school with assets made in one of the Illusion games.

In his first year of highschool the MC, a nerd, is framed by his "friend" and sent to juvie. He returns for his last year of highschool – post puberty and covered in nerdy prison tats – to exact revenge upon the nerd who'd betrayed him. He could just beat him up, but that isn't his style and now that everyone is eighteen the stakes are higher. It just so happens the nerd-antagonist has several hot women in his life.

So the player has to avoid getting set up again by the antagonist (who is up to his old schemes) while simultaneously trying to seduce the gorgeous women around him. The girls would be; the nerds hot mom who teaches at their school, the nerds overprotective older sister who's still in their grade because she's kind of dumb, the straight A preppy girl the nerd has a crush on and the emo/goth who herself has a crush on the nerd.

Gameplay would be based entirely around the school. Interactions with other characters would advance time. Days start when you arrive and end when you leave. Everything that happens off campus would be triggered events. Progress with the girls would be story based and feature two similar routes. One where the MC focuses on making them love him and one where he focuses on making them hate the nerd. The Love/Hate routes would share a lot of content but diverge in certain ways.

Content would focus on corruption, exhibitionism, humiliation (for nerd), mff+, and, technically, ntr. Though I believe there's a similar but different term for Netorare from another perspective.

The MC as a bull angle is something I don't see often enough in wegs. I always figured a game where the player cucks a character who absolutely deserves it would be well recieved.

I used external equipment to calibrate all my monitors.
The idea is that when the artist is already using a calibrated monitor in the first place, mistakes in things like skin tone looking unnatural with too much "purple" (like the DAZ image I quoted), or excessively warm or cold images even if there is no clear intention to create an extreme scene, are usually the fault of the monitor of whoever is viewing the image, and not the artist's fault.
But after I calibrated mine, I started to pay attention to these anomalies more, and they are quite present in renders made in DAZ, but rarely appear in 2D art, even in those that are not being made by very good artists, I believe because the 2D artists have more technical and theoretical knowledge than most devs using DAZ Studio.
I'm posting about this in various places where devs post/read to try to raise awareness among them that they should at least try to calibrate their monitors better (even if it's just the basic calibration of the monitor itself, following instructions from sites like rtings).

I don't know, to be honest.
I think the most successful devs who are recognized and earn well probably already use high quality monitors to begin with, and even though these monitors are also "factory uncalibrated" (like practically all monitors and televisions and LCD screens on the planet), they are much closer to the real thing, so any misconceptions the artist has with the real colors won't result in a image that betrays his original intention.
I also notice that the most "wrong" images in DAZ are precisely the ones that take the least care with everything and not just lighting, which is the factor that will affect the final colors in DAZ. They have less natural poses, worse framing, worse everything, which indicates that they are being made by more amateurish people, while the 'official' (I think) images from "BaDIK", like this one: >>8306641 don't seem to have anything really wrong.
In any case, if you're creating images that are going to be seen by other people, then I think it's worth at least worrying that the image you're creating is as 'correct' as possible. It's a concern that every artist should have, even amateurs.
And you don't really need to calibrate your monitor very rigorously, just go to sites like rtings, search for your monitor model, and see what they suggest to improve the original image, because they do tests with specialized equipment and will give you good suggestions.

The most I can say is that some authors probably didn't calibrate their monitors because their images seem to have unintentional problems that stand out more on properly calibrated monitors, such as strange skin tones (generated by lighting usually, because DAZ assets come with the textures ready), are too cold/warm without there seeming to be any reason behind such a decision, have fucked up brightness and contrast, etc. It's just speculation and you can't look at an image and say: "the author had a properly calibrated monitor.
Star Periphery is probably one of the wegs being made by someone who has some knowledge of art, this is clearly visible by the way he constructs the scenes and uses the colors. He's probably working with proper equipment, therefore. And at least for my personal taste, the screenshot you posted looks more "right" when I turn on the calibration profile, so I bet I'm seeing exactly what the author intended.

Like, in the beginning of the game theres a car crash. You're going to spend an eternity of time making very little progress each day, so you need to be creating something that you're 100% comfortable with. I think you should just do one branch for now, which is apparently what you do best, and leave open the possibility of adding more branches in the future if people are interested.
Basically you make your entire kinect novel, and then when your fans want more, you go back to a key point in the story and give a totally different option to the player who will then create a parallel story. You continue until the end of this story (which doesn't have to be as long as the main one, or you can come back to it after a while), and you keep repeating this procedure until after years you have a game full of relevant choices.

When it comes to the narrative if there's not choices for the player then just make sure the protagonist acts as the player expects/wants them to and doesn't continually make stupid mistakes that trigger bad events. One of the simpler branching paths is just bad decision = bad end... you get 4-5 pages into decision then game ends, go back and make a different decision.
It's easy to conceptualize, draw out, and create, since there's no complex interactions with other decisions later, and you only need to render a few pages.
Nested decision trees are what really amplify the complexity.

I'm not in a position to make a game yet, but I've been thinking about a game idea for a while now to the point where I've been posting about it on other boards and drawing concept art for it. I kinda just want to post some of my shitty doodles here now, get some feedback and suggestions for her design. That way I can hold on to it and continue to refine my art by drawing her. Will I ever make the game? Probably not. But it is fun to think about.

Alright, super condensed synopsis.
>Setting is a sci-fi space station super city
>MC is a Technician who's job it is to manage the defense force's ultimate battle android (We'll call Droid for short.)
>Droid looks like a beautiful woman but is a robot with enhanced phys/mental ability, most deadly in the galaxy

>MC doesn't want to lose out on being attached to her celebrity

I figure stick with one heroine, keep the scope small and the gameplay loop tight, all the while actually incentivising the player to win and think about what mods they want to apply and stats they want to change would make for a simple game with a solid hook and replayability.

Like any idea guy, I've got dozens for this. Futa mods, artificial womb mods, using a laser to etch a womb tattoo on her crotch...If my job weren't so demanding and if I hadn't also just started college specifically for art, I might have really pursued this. But there's a non-zero% chance I could get fired for gross incompetance in the future, so yeah.

Once I at least have a final design and a name picked out, that'd feel pretty good and I can give drawing her seriously a try. So please, tell me what's working here design wise and what's not. Ask questions, if you want. I could elaborate on things. This whole concept was born out of liking body mod porn but hating how it was always associated with dark stories. While some ideas I have certainly aren't tame, thematically unless you choose a dark path, I'd want to keep things light.

Character design is pretty generic honestly. If they're an android why not give them some elements that make it clear they're not human (function over form, exposing some mechanical elements). The fact they have such a human look initially is honestly kind of weird if they're sole purpose is combat.

As for the game concept, I love the idea of corrupting a bitchy women both mentally a physically (There's a few Miel VNs like that which were pretty good). Though I'm concerned scope is too large, you can't meaningfully include every fetish since it'd become impossible to create scenes that account for everything (unless they're procgen scenes like Lilith's Throne and I personally think those suck).

I get what you're saying. A couple things I really wanted her to have is a visor she wears in battle, a plug suit of some kind, and she'd have more defined musculature. I suck at drawing muscle so I didn't bother. She'd also be like 7 feet tall. There's an in-universe reason for why she's built like a human, and one thing she does want is to have her current body replaced with a more military/alien style battle droid body that's like a cross between a tank and a spider or something. I've been thinking maybe it'd be better to start with some more bulky armor, then switch to plug suit, then slutty sling bikini armor.

As for all the h-scenes I'd like to explore, I'd probably just slowly build the game out, adding scenes and fetishes as I'd go.

Silly Tavern is a fast / easy way to try out concepts at a personality / theme level and see if it works. What I learned (via trial and error) was a lot of concepts around how personalities of NPCs interact with each other. Assume there's fundamentals here, i.e. how you decide who's in a sitcom, but you can play with them directly. You can use that to quickly flesh out lore and game ideas (at least in text) and see if they're actually interesting.
I did this for a few games I'd considered coding up, and it did two things for me. One, helped me to develop an entire concept. Two, got the game out of my head and implemented, so I'd quit obsessing over the concept.

But I think that if you want to create this idea that choices can generate failure scenarios, at least try to make them interesting. For example, the player chooses to cheat on his girlfriend with the slut from school, make the entire scene, the sex between the MC and the slut, what happens afterwards, the consequences for his relationship, etc., and only then go back to the original timeline and continue the game. You have to give the player the idea that the options lead to substantial and interesting things rather than being there just to punish them.

But here’s the real issue and the important one. Renpy is an engine primarily used by people making VNs, which means most of the online support is going to be centered around VNs. Godot is better specifically because it caters to people making ‘games,’ which, by proxy, means there is more availability for experimentation or development. It’s not inherently a problem if what you’re doing is creating a standard weg vn sloppa,however, if you have any goals beyond that, good luck.

Godot is better than Renpy for the same reason unity or unreal is better, the community.

The great thing about Ren'py is that it was designed with writers in mind, not programmers.
So a 13-year-old girl who likes to write her stories can in one fucking day understand all the basics she needs to turn her story into a Visual Novel, and from then on she basically just needs to play the part of the writer by putting each character's name followed by their speech in quotation marks.
It's basically a tool for artists to express themselves, and that's important in visual novels because they can hardly be considered games.

Speak for yourself. I find VNs tolerable, but prefer more interesting mechanics.
Renpy is easy to use, but once you start getting outside that use case you're better off in another engine. Corruption Town's a game that would be fine in renpy if not for the minigame mechanic, which requires a better engine (Unity, in that case.)
IDK if Goodbye Eternity needs Godot or not. If it's just a VN, then ofc not. I think Innventure is written in Godot... lot of potential but doesn't seem to be moving forward very fast.

That's one of renpy's greatest strength, and weakness. It's very easy to create a game with zero coding experience. And people do... so, there's a bunch, and you have to look for the good ones.
The other is low system requirements to run. I think the reason renpy, and VNs, are so popular is they can be run on potato computers. 3D games often require more to run.

I want to make a WEG primarily focused around fucking goblin girls. What would be the best "engine" for 3d renders of this? I messed around in koikatsu a bit but it just doesnt look "right" to me (to be fair, it could be a skill issue)
